BEWARE of this guy -- a tricky, oily, egotistical snake. I was naively impressed by Kevin Moist's hype – wow, "top-seller, " etc, etc! But I learned to my great chagrin what that really means, and it boils down to this: "Volume, not mark-up." Kevin Moist couldn't care less if you get $20, 000 less than what your house is really worth – it makes very little difference to his commission. He just gets your file off his desk as quickly as possible, grabs his tidy chunk of cash, and then on to the next sucker. When I first interviewed him, I was swept away by his pretense of courtesy and charm – all phony. He made a great point of emphasizing that if I hired him I could count on it being the great Kevin Moist himself and only he
who would show the house -- unlike other realtors, who (so he said) would send their junior assistants. A complete lie – and when I expressed surprise upon finding that he'd done just that, sending assistant to preside at the Open House, his response was to "get around me" with a sugary quip about how when
people see how good his assistant is, they don't want him anymore. After spouting lavish admiration for the house while sitting at my table (and also boasting about his talent at writing great ad-copy), he composed a write-up for the MLS that virtually damned the house with faint praise -- and believe me, we're not talking about a slum dwelling here, but a gorgeous custom-built property. I'm not sure what his motive was in doing that, but I do know that Kevin Moist (or should I say, his assistant) didn't bring a single customer to view the place except during the Open House. HE MADE NO EFFORT WHATSOEVER. And his behaviour in pushing me to accept the one offer that came from the Open House – after the house had been on the market for barely one week, by the way – was, without exaggeration, appalling to the point of unheard-of. He tried to BULLY ME into accepting a possession date barely a week from the sale date – and when I objected, explaining that I'd need at least two weeks just to clear all the final things out of the house, he became enraged, browbeating and trying to intimidate me into doing what he wanted. I was in shock – he was literally sputtering with rage! Could it be that Kevin Moist was in such frenzied haste to finalize the deal because the prospective buyer happened to be his own client, and Moist was in such a rabid fury because if I wasn't muscled into accepting the offer, he stood to lose out on scoring the commission from BOTH sides, the vendor's and the buyer's? Could that also be why he happened to compose such an unappealing ad for the house, to keep competitive bidders away? Interesting possibility, isn't it? And another thing: apparently to avoid having to bother with letting my lawyer review the contract, he lied to my lawyer, claiming that I'd already signed the it! My lawyer made the dry comment that Kevin Moist "didn't seem to mind playing fast and loose with the truth." And have I mentioned -- once you've signed on the dotted line, good luck getting Kevin Moistto return a call – he's off to the next
conquest, making sure he racks up more sales for his "top-seller"ranking. Get your grandmother to sell
your house or sell it yourself, but don't be fooled by this guy's suave act. Save yourself a lot of regret -- and
thousands of dollars.
