I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment regarding an unjust visitation violation at GCU. On October 13th, 2023, my roommate’s brother was in our common area with the door shut, which violated the university’s policy. I was in the bathroom at this time with the door shut, completely unaware of the situation.

I cooperated when an RA knocked on the bathroom door, requesting a bathroom search. Days later, I received a visitation violation notice, which I appealed, explaining my lack of knowledge about the situation due to being in the bathroom with the door closed. My first appeal was denied without any explanation.

I reached out to student conduct and spoke with a representative who suggested that if the bedroom door was shut, I might not be directly involved. This led me to believe that the violation was a misunderstanding. I even consulted with my RD, who said something similar, and she sent an email to student conduct on my behalf.

Despite this, my second appeal was denied on the grounds that the bedroom door was open. My other roommate clarified that she had opened the bedroom door after hearing the knock, further complicating the situation. Regardless, the bathroom door was shut, and both my roommates attested to this.

In a last effort, I emailed the director of student conduct, emphasizing the closed bathroom door. My attempts to communicate were consistently ignored.

I made an appointment with a student conduct representative, and my side of the story was dismissed, and I was unjustly accused of being guilty of the violation. The representative claimed that I was in the common room and ran into the bathroom upon hearing the knock, a baseless assumption.

In a recent meeting with the director of student conduct, my two appeals were criticized as contradictory, even though they contained the same information. The director accused me of lying about statements made during a phone conversation, insinuating that I was untrustworthy. Additionally, he questioned why I failed to mention the duration of my time in the bathroom, which I deemed irrelevant to the case.

In conclusion, this experience has left me deeply disheartened. I believe GCU has violated its own policies, disregarded ethical standards, and failed to genuinely listen to its students. Despite my efforts to explain the situation, I feel disrespected, falsely accused, and unsupported throughout this process.

I hope that GCU reevaluates its policies and procedures to ensure fairness, transparency, and respect for its students in the future.

Desired outcome: I would appreciate a response/apology and I would like the violation to be taken off of my record.
