bought candles as christmas presents and also some for myself, the candles had no smell and they were giving off black smoke and the glass of the jaw was black, left a black mark on the wall, the flame from the wick was far to big, i have use these candles for years and i loved them never had a problem up until these ones at christmas, i bought a new one just last week and this one is exactly the same, i am not happy with thee at all lately and for the price this should not be happening.

I have always loved Yankee Candles, especially Lilac Blossoms, Fresh Cut Roses, Lavender and Oak etc. and used the wax melts as well! They have always filled the house up with a wonderful smell, I would put wax melts in the kitchen and you could smell them in the whole house in about 10 minutes, now I don't even bother and it makes me sad! I use brands of wax melts I found at Walmart that are a lot cheaper and smell wonderful and last longer then the new Yankee wax melts! I still buy my favorite Yankee candles, but I usually find them at Walmart for half the price and no shipping costs! I have free shipping with the YC rewards program, but it seemed like the ones I wanted were on sale so I had to buy 2 to get free shipping! My birthday candle I get free came in the box lying in the bottom paper crate with no top crating on it and it was shattered and I cut myself on the glass, not a good birthday present, then when I went to get a new one they didn't have the fragrance in stock and I have been trying for over a month, still none, so I asked for another fragrance I know I like so I won't have to send it back! It's making me tired to deal with YC and I don't want to try any new fragrances, since the ones I have ended up in the trash, sad! Did the company sell or is it mass producing that is causing the quality to go down? Just curious!

i am having the same problem. most of the candles, and i have purchased a lot of them do not smell while burning. And i also get black smoke from all of the red and burgandy colors. I do not get the black smoke from other colors so i don't think it was "The primary cause of black smoke is an overly long wick. When a candle burns, the wax near the flame melts and the liquid wax is pulled up the wick to feed the flame. If the wick is too long, the balance of heat and fuel will be off" or else it would happen to all the candles.

I have noticed over the past 5 years or so that the hot throw from Yankee Candles are not as strong. Even the cold throw isn’t as strong. My husband also notice this as well. I also get a lot of soot on my candle jars after they are about half gone. I make sure the wick is trimmed to the right length.

It is 2022. I'm reading comments that are 10 years old, about Yankee massively lowering the quality of their candle's. It hasn't stopped! They are now selling for $30! What a joke. I have somebody the original candle's and the difference in the amount of fragrance is night and day! Before you could just have the top off of a candle and smell it's aroma. Now you can hardly smell it when it is burning for hours! I bought several on a half off sale. I have returned and exchanged them so many times and the quality never changes. I'm done. I'll never buy from them again. I'll just get Walmart candle's, they have much more fragrance and are a fraction of the cost. They deserve to go out of business.

A new fragrance came out & a sale of buy one get one 50% off even better!¡ I absolutely love their candles, I refuse 2 buy any other brands. So I was so excited about lighting their new scent & after a couple hours I could not smell anything!¡ I lit the candle in my room I was downstairs doing laundry n as I walked up the stairs 2 my room I did not smell anything.

This really let me down 😕 now I’m gonna contemplate purchasing Yankee Candles from now on.

I have a collection of over 800 yankee candles in all sizes. I too noticed the "no smell" of the newer ones. But, I do on occasion find the older ones at the local thrift shop that are new for 7-10.00. The old label of yankee candle ( covered the front of the jar...not the new label that is long and narrow) still has some of the best throw. I will never buy a yankee candle from their retail stores again. I'll continue looking for the old style table at my local thrift shops.

I, too, was once a loyal customer, buying faithfully every fall and spring. I would allow myself to spend the high prices even though I really didn't have the extra money to blow because the candles used to be literally therapy for my soul, a soothing comfort, a homey and familiar friend to cheer the home and hearth. After I complained recently, the company sent me 3 larger candles to replace the 2 that had no scent and, as I feared, these have pretty much no scent, either. So even though the company responded to my complaint right away and sent new candles, their product remains useless and sadly, I'm now an ex-customer like so many other disappointed ex-fans. :(

It breaks my heart I won't be purchasing any more of Yankee Candles' candles. Years, as an avid customer with the company, it came to my attention an earlier text from a customer in 2012 revealed and denounced unethical practices on the manufacturing of candle products. Reading maryhall69's commentary regarding the no scent argument from YC's 22oz candles has reaffirmed me with her unbiased scrutiny as a wake-up call. I have had spent money insanely into buying these large jars in recent years, and no matter the fragrance of choice I want to burn after four hours, a scented throw noticeably was nonexistent, let alone a sliver. My closet, filled with classic jars I brought recently online, such as Autumn Leaves, Holiday Bayberry (oh good grief :'-( Mountain Lodge), Wild Honeysuckle, are now left behind as leftover duds. Not even a candle warmer lamp, which I purchase specifically to see if it can assist in drawing out fragrance, hasn't helped. It's is an outrage the way Yankee Candles mass-produce their wax products, to injure the customers' credibility solely to economize by using depreciating wax ingredients. This company alone was the "pride" of candle making and keeping in business with all its corrupted maneuvers, has become a fraudulent website. I will continue to purchase Yankees' refill scent plugs and room sprays, and if I need an assortment of candles, I go for the ones by Bath and Body Works, even though the web doesn't carry an exclusive selection of burning products. Thanks, Yankee Candle, for ruining my home's holiday gladsomeness with your non-scented candle jars :-(

Aww I love their wax melts so I was really happy to see they sold a massive candle in warm cashmere! My boyfriend got it for me for Christmas as it was so expensive here in the UK, but he told me they were still "on offer" at £12! I can only smell it when it's first lit, and when it goes out. I thought maybe I had "got used to it" because everyone around here talks Yankee Candle like it's a god but I'm glad I found this thread. It's kinda shocking how this has been going on years and they're still getting away with it. Also, my flame on my candle gets really high and it freaks me out. It smokes loads when I put it out but maybe I'm doing it wrong. The candles at Matalan (clothes store) sell nicer and stronger candles for almost half the price! Real shame though because I'm addicted to their wax melts!

It's funny I found myself back here on this thread because I feel so deeply disappointed. I was trying to give them another chance and bought them a few more times but this last batch is an utter disappointment. Absolutely no smell. I mean really. It's no wonder they're on sale almost every day for 50% off because they're desperate to make some kind of profit. They're even in the shelves at Walmart. Not to knock Walmart because I love Walmart but still, you get my point I'm sure. Lol I recently bought five large jars and the amount of soot that's on the 1st jar after burning is ridiculous. The way it's burning seems off to me as well. I have been buying these for over 20 years and now is the definitive moment that I will not purchase from them ever again. They are absolutely awful and cheap. And the fact that they've raised the price point on top of this is sickening. Done done done. The negative feedback on Facebook says it all. Either they improve and bring back a product that they used to sell regardless of switching companies, or their business is over. I know I'm done with them

I'm so disappointed with the Yankee candles I recently purchased. They smell incredible when cold, but once they're lit the smell disappears. This morning I had three Yankee candles burning in one room for over three hours. They produced absolutely no smell. I put on a $2 Wal-Mart wax melt in the bedroom and within 30 minutes that was the predominant smell in my entire house. I wanted to love Yankee, and I am willing to pay the extra cost for a strong, great smelling candle. However, I will never waste money on these sham candles again. Village candle is my new favorite, their throw is amazing.

I agree with all the postings regarding Yankee Candle. I have purchased Yankee Candles for several years and have several favorites, but the last few years my favorites have little to no smell when they are burning. Yankee Candle has once again increased the price on the jar candles. They are just not worth spending money on anymore. Shame on them for running this company into the ground by cutting corners, like we would not notice.

R.I.P. Yankee Candle...you are no longer the iconic candle or company you once where. A total shame as you didn’t have to take this route. In business school one of the first things you lear is the customers always right and always strive to make your customers happy or you will go down in flames. Maybe these new owners were asleep for this class? Yankee is now agresivlly expanding its shelf presence which is probably temporarily increasing sales with more people trying Yankee Candles based on their name. I don’t think Yankee has figured out yet that you can saturate the market, but at some point enough people will realize Yankee sucks, and that’s when the downturn will come. The stocholder of Newell Rubbermaid who now own Yankee Candle should either demand change with the quality of the Yankee Candle brand or fire the CEO and others as they are ruining a once iconic company.

It seems like they are not using the same amount of essential oils. I just asked for a few candles for Valentines' Day and realized one of them was the one I was burning right now - no scent at all! So disappointing! I used to love the warming tarts - they filled the house with such nice aromas - but those now also have little scent unless you are standing right near them. I used to love going to the Yankee Candle Factory in Deerfield, MA but I will save my money. As for Bath and Body Works, I tried them and was very pleased at first - and told them so - until I started getting candles with little to no scent! Everyone is trying to cut corners these days -no more half gallon of ice cream, no more pound of coffee, I could go on and on. As far as candles go you might as well just burn the old fashioned, unscented white ones and buy a can of Febreeze. Its not just the money - its the feeling the scented candles used to bring forth.

I definitely agree that the quality of Yankee Candles has fallen dramatically. The new Sea Salt and Sage is an absolutely beautiful fragrance but only in the jar, there's no fragrance at all in the room when it's burning. The same applies to my old favourites, they now have at least 80 per cent less fragrance than previously. I have some Christmas fragrance jars that I have been getting out for the holidays for a few years and they smell as good as ever so I know it's not my nose. I've had it with Yankee now and that's sad.

I had a candle bought for me less that a week ago for Mother's Day and don't have it a lot and this is the result. It has burnt down rapidly and there is zero fragrance. This was bought from a high street shop. Does anyone have any views on these being copy candles. There is black bits also desolved at the bottom of the candle.?

After years of using only Yankee, I am looking for new candle maker. No scent, waste of money and matches, and so sad. I can't imagine, after hearing from friends who are doing same, and seeing complaints all over web, that this won't hurt Yankee eventually. They must have been bought out by a larger corporation. Bye bye Yankee.

Bought Yankee candles from my granddaughter for her dance class as a fundraiser. All the candles have NO smell whatsoever while burning. Hugely disappointed in a product that was once the very best in candles, but no longer. Will absolutely NOT buy another Yankee candle ever again!

I used to love Yankee Candles - especially the winter scents. But for approx 5 or 6 years I have noticed that there is poor or no scent when burning and also the jar candles do not burn all the way through. I have returned them to the shop for a refund and have been informed by the assistant that other customers have made the same complaint. So I do not buy them anymore - which is a shame as they were like a lovely treat.

I have been very disappointed in the lack of smell of their candles. Also, even trimming the wick each time, I still get a very high flame. The quality of Yankee Candles has gone downhill big time!

I do not buy Yankee candles anymore either. They have been terrible for quite a while now.
And it's all of their candles, not just the large jars. We used to buy them all the time, I especially loved to give them as gifts. Not anymore, and definitely not for the price.

I bought 4 Yankee candles last week and they literally have NO smell at all. Plus, when you first light the wick, the flame is about 4 inches tall for several seconds and it scared me because it was so high. Then the next time I tried to light them, the wick is black and starting to fray. Used to be a Yankee candle could be smelled all over the entire house. Now, not even the room it's burning in has any scent at all. What a disappointment. I contacted Yankee corporate and they told me I can take the candles to a Yankee company store for an exchange, but I have a feeling I might have the same issue. Just another great company going down the tubes by trying to save little money. I'd rather pay more for a candle that actually has an odor.

I bought two of the holiday scents candles and find that they do not have much of a fragrance at all when they are burning. I have been buying Yankee Candles for years, and am very dissappointed in the quality of this recent purchase. Today I purchased a candle from Bath & Body and it was wonderful at half the cost. Guess they will be getting my business from now on.

Yankee Candle have started to use cheaper wicks and a cheaper mix of wax as they are now trying to squeeze every last penny out of the product in profit. They now use cheaper oils in the wax (they have been doing this for a while now, I was told by someone in their factory in the USA . They have also put up the price. On top of this, they are about to have 10% less wax in the Jar - they are achieving this by pumping air into the wax so that it looks the same amount. Notice how they are now advertising the 22oz Large Jars as just "Large Jars" - wait a couple of months and you will see that weight on the jar changing to 20oz.

They used to be the best candle on the market, now they are common and cheap. Why do you think that you never have to pay full price anymore?
