candles sold at the last semi - annual sale
I purchased $100. in candles, I don't smell anything! I understand Yankee was purchased by another company. Has the quality of the candles been decreased? Somebody in quality control needs to do a better job of testing OR Yankee needs to stop short cutting on the oil used. These candles are not cheap so I expect a lot more then I've received!
no smell (and black soot) & customer service attitude
I recently bought a 22 oz. shortbread cookie yankee candle @ a local store. it has no smell at all! i called the 800# of yankee candle to ask for a coupon to replace the candle or to see if they would send me a replacement. their customer service rep (jim) was very rude. he told me to return the candle to the store where i bought it, and when i told him that would not be convenient as i bought it @ a store near my friends house (20 miles) away and not near my home. he just kept repeating "once again, i am telling you to return it to the store" like a robot, saying it several times to me over & over. not acknowledging my statements at all. he was a very rude to me. i was a yankee candle customer of many years, having several of their tart warmers, etc. this company is seriously going to loose customers, including me. don't they want to promote good will, and have their customers satisfied and come back to purchase their product again? i think not.
destroyed furniture
I recently bought several bottles of the scented oil. I spent close to 100.00. I put one on my nightstand and one on my fireplace. When you turn the wicks over the oil may drip on furniture which it did and both pieces of furniture are destroyed. No warning from salesperson or on website that they should not be placed on wood surfaces. I am devastated. Please review the pictures. Waiting for your response. Dotty Legere (Salem, MA)
the quality was bad and these candles were too expensive
I bought couple of candles from the company www.yankeecandle.com. The seller told me that they were durable, but after two days of using it, the candle was “destroyed”. I was really disappointed, because the prices on the website were really high. The seller of course tried to excuse and offered some discount for the further orders, but I decided that I would never again buy their candles.
slivers from a bench
My husband 7 I visited yankee candle on december 27 2014. Approximately around 10 am. We have always come to this facility since we got together in 2005. We were walking through the beautiful village taking in a the beautiful site's. We came upon a bench in front of the room with all the irish ornaments. There was a bench there so we sat to take a photo. Right away I knew there was something wrong. The bench was old and who knows the last time anyone did a walk through to make sure things are safe. I had silvers in both of the back's of my thighs. I took many hours to remove all of them. I reported it. The concern for me? Oh thanks for letting us know. What about me? Isn't there anything that you could offer a customer for the plain fact that it never should have happened in the first place. I thought of getting a hold of my lawyer. I figured i'd give them a chance to make it right! I guess we will see! Painful experience

clearance area
Today as i was walking by yankee candle in the mall, there was a display table in the front of the store with several candles on it and large red and white signs saying 75% off. There was even a large sign breaking down the price from original price and the new 75% off price, there was also a 50% off sign but no such direction as to what was % off. So i picked up a candle that would have come to the pricing guide of $4. 50 with the 75% off. When i got to the counter and the girl rang it up she told me that would be $14 and change. I said what? She said the candle was 50% off not 75%. I said to her then why was it on the table with 75% off and no verification as to what was 50 or 75% off. At this point i told her i didn't want it, she said well i already rang it in, now i have to call the other girl over to refund your money. . . Needless to say 15 minutes later i was able to leave. After giving my name, address, phone #, postal code, city, and signature which she said was store policy? Very disappointed in to me was false advertising. . . Never again will i shop in this store at this location, i didn't even get an apology or anything and both girls were snide and rude!
Oringial website was set but never received any suport. Paid for upgrades that I never received.
Ya dude, I work retail and people screw up on the signs all the time. I will have a sign that says Polo shirts buy 2 for $40 regular price 29.00 and they will either come up with Polos that are $50 or pants, shorts, anything else. In my experience, the consumer is usually wrong. I am highly sceptical here. Next time ask before you buy and save every ones time,
My question is why pay for it prior to realizing it was not 75%?
no refills
Son gifted me Yankee Candle Lavender and Vanilla Reed Air Diffuser at $24.99. I liked it so much I purchased one each for my mother and sister. Can't get refills of same scent from Yankee Candle. Was told to wait until after the holidays. Called again and was told to wait for Spring products. They still don't offer the refills. $75 plus down the toilet. Evidently they are not smart enough to back up their product line. I will never buy Yankee Candle and I am spreading the word! Looking at the other complaints this company has
gone downhill. What a joke and to think the owner did an episode on "Undercover Boss". What a farce.

I dealt directly with Yankee Candle before; Make them give you a substitution if you would accept another scent. They did that for me; they can do it for you. Even if you never do business with them again, don't give up. I had a candle that would not burn after awhile. I didn't get the same scent again, but I got another candle of a scent similar that I could accept. Write them an old-fashioned letter; maybe you'll reach someone who will make it right. Good luck!
yankee large jar
I purchased a large jar candle "Gold Dust" it burnt well until the last final quarter of the jar I went to move the jar and one of the wicks had burnt the side of the jar which had a gold imprinted design, when my fingers touched the outside of the jar the gold of the design came of and stuck to my middle finger causing it to burn, given that Icould not get the gold material of my finger it continued to burn until running it under cold water reduced the heat, however I still have the gold material burnt into my finger which in turn has blistered. Very dangerous product which caused a painful burn.
Bought my sister in law a Yankee candle for a gift and the candle refuses to burn the wick with not catch light
I buy a lot of Yankee candles from local stores. I buy the 22oz candles.
Twice now there's not enough wick to burn the candle. One burned half way and went out, the second one only burned a third way down and wouldn't burn any more. The stores do not take returns.
hello, I'm a candle. I am hot. Here's your sign
boo hoo so sad. buy another candle and grow up. don't play with HOT things, you'll get burned!
black soot all over front room
I purchased a Holly Berry Yankee Candle for the Christmas and noticed after a few days black soot on the ceiling and walls after using, the wall had to be washed down and the room repainted, will never used one again! for an expensive candle this is appalling.
After 2 month`s still no reply regarding my complaint about the soot ruining my walls and ceiling, it took 3 coats of paint to cover the damage, absolutely disgusted with the product and customer service!, after searching the internet one has to wonder whether this company even search's for complaints as I found plenty with little effort.

I love candles! I love how nice they make my house smell. I have been buying them from Dollar General at a far-reduced price than Yankee Candle. I've had a few Yankee candles, bought locally, and noticed how long they last, a serious seven days or more, burning them all day.
I bought a sage and citrus Yankee Candle from Walmart and was so impressed by it that I decided to buy more, from Yankee Candle company. The one from Walmart created no soot; its wick kept itself at a miraculous 1/4", so I never had to trim it. It lasted 10 days, being burned all day long, without stopping.
I bought four more of those sage and citrus candles from the Yankee Candle company, and was soooo disappointed. The first one created soot from the beginning of being burned, and it's wick curled up on its top, so that I had to blow it out and remove the curl. I created a review on Yankee Candles' website and reported this. And no, I'm not schlepping the other three candles back to the post office. The box weighed 20 pounds!
I'm going to guess that the soot these candles created was caused by them being old stock. They appear to not be made of soy. Soy candles do not create soot, but they're very hard to find at decent prices.
I
My Yankee candle had burned ok for weeks. I trimmed the wick before lighting it every evening. Last night my porch was black with soot damage. I will have to repaint. And the Christmas decorations I had put up will have to be thrown out. There’s obviously something radically wrong with the formula!
Hi, I just went through a weird ordeal and it had to do with my ya keep candle. I've always loved them but now I'm scared to burn what I have.
At least a couple hundred dollars worth of candles. I thought my furnace was malfunctioning. But that wasn't the problem. It was the soot from the candle we were burning.
Now I have a huge clean up job and lots of candles I won't use now. We do use the sniffer to put them out and also I have the special top for all my candles. I had this happen a few years back and didnt connect until I had the furnace guy come out.
I had a Sage and Citrus candle 6 [protected] 3. When it got to the last quarter it started terrible black smoking. Set off the house smoke detectors. Sooted up the bathroom, the ceiling and parts of the rest of the house. I have just refinished prepping and painting the bath. I am NOT a happy camper. I have been a long time user of their products. Until now.
I don't know to whom I should report this. It is certainly a safety and health issue. And I no longer feel comfortable gifting their candle products, lest I put someone else at risk.
Maybe there will be a response from the company? I believe it is now owned by Newell Rubbermaid...Jake
My entire lounge is covered in black soot, from a Yankee candle I got gifted to me on Christmas Day, when I blow my nose it's black, my skin was covered in black marks, my walls, brand new sofa is also covered in soot, curtains, blinds, when I took a picture off the wall its was surrounded in soot, I am bloody fuming, I have wrote to them, but I want to know whose going to pay for my lounge to be re-done?
Everybody complaining, use a candle topper . I bought this American Home Yankee candle at Ollies for 7.99 Im on a budget and cannot afford retail price. I have been burning it all day for a week now. NO soot, none . I havent even trimmed the wick, this candle has burned beautifully. This is an old metal candle topper I have had for years.
I have been using Yankee for years, never ever had problems, this was a first for me, I switched to Darcey's a few months ago as I love their palettes, but because this was a gift, I used it, never ever again, the more I look round my lounge, the more damage I see, and I am so upset over it x
I am in the process of repainting my walls and ceilings. I was wondering what may have caused the black marks on my ceilings and when I googled "Yankee Candle Soot", I found a lot of information about the candles causing the blackened streaks. All of a sudden, it clicked - it all makes complete sense (no pun intended) now. I burn Yankee Candles a lot. I guess this isn't going to be an option any longer. How disappointing in Yankee Candle! I will be reaching their customer service to at least make a report.
I also have had reactions (shortened breath, sneezing) while burning certain candles from Yankee. Yep - no more! I'm glad to read these comments!
My walls are a mess & have been sick with this nagging cough! . Black stuff coming out of my lungs!
Mike, I have recently burned about eight Yankee Candles during a recent rain storm and when the sun came out there were what looked like shadows on my cathedral ceilings. They turned out to be soot. Not only that, but my heater, located in the attic almost stopped working and my husband pulled out the heater filter and it was totally black with soot also. Who do we reconcile this with? Do we call our Homeowner's insurance company or do we get a lawyer and sue Yankee Candles? I am afraid for our health, because he put a new filter in the heater just five days ago and it too is already black and the candles were thrown away as soon as I realized it was soot on the ceilings. I blew my nose and black came out! Could this be a health risk? What should we do? Please advise.
I believe we have a class action suit! I have a cough I can't get rid of as well as my daughters. When I cough up its clear with black particles. Our walls are black...it's super toxic!
Now this is the very reason why I choose to use scentsy. I'm an independent scentsy consultant. I choose this because scentsy is so much safer. We use electric warmers that don't heat higher than just above body temperature. I have 4 children and will never use a wick candle again. Scentsy warmers use a heating element or light bulb to melt the wax there is no soot lead or wick. take a look at the website for more information

black smoke
I have been buying Yankee Candle products for nearly 10 years. I have noticed their product quality had degraded in the past few years - while I still gave them the benefit and a chance. I can no longer turn a blind eye. As a concerned, informed, educated and health and environmentally conscious consumer I ask that they save themselves from themselves by making a safer product. These days soy candles are another option safety wise. For the sake of our health we cannot allow this company to introduce the health risks they have so greedily and neglectfully allowed. It is unacceptable for the product to burn black, leaving black smoke rings around the glass car, on my walls and ceiling, and more seriously I cleaned out my ears to find the black smoke/soot found on the jar after use in my ears. I burned a candle for a few hours, the following day I cleaned out my ears with a QTip finding a black residue in my ear. I cannot allow this product to introduce carcinogen and CO2 into my home. The candles are nice, they have a nice smell, however they are visibly and clearly unsafe for burning. Until this company puts together a team of people to make a safer product my money will not be found in their hands. For the safety of my friends, family, and fellow people who I care for I recommend that we encourage and gently push this company to make a alternatively safe product. I will gladly pay a few extra dollars to see a better product. Soy candles are safe and do not burn black. I cannot imagine the health risk these pose and only the company itself can know what they are putting into their candles. I have not found similar problems with their car jars, and other products but the candles pose a risk. The wick burns black, it curls up, the jar has black soot inside, it has left marks on my wall and ceiling and black soot in my ears. I have pets and can't imagine the safety risk it poses to them. I will discontinue using these products from Yankee Candle, a company I had respect for, until they design a safer product for my use. I hope this message invokes a concern in consumers, and those with children in the home who should not be introduced to this unsafe element these candles give off. Please contact Yankee Candle to make them aware. I am not looking for a free handout, I have the financial comfort of being able to purchase what I want. As a consumer in todays age I am more environmentally and health conscious as should anyone else get sick from the smoke these candles give off I could not imagine the inhumanity behind something so silly as a candle. The bottom line Yankee Candle: make a noticeably and visibly safer quality product or your company will spiral down into bankruptcy over time. It is simply stupid not to invest in a safer product - it's a win-win. A safer quality product using soy or whatever would remove the black smoke and soot these give off, or sick and angry consumers costing a fortune in law suits and decrease in sales.
I have been using Yankee candles for 33 years and I'm very disappointed with the 6 candles I bought for Christmas this year they were the worst candles ever when I started to burn them they all burn black and the wicks turned short and wide that they wouldn't even light at the store where I bought them the lady ask if I wanted all my candles cut where they should be cut down to I said sure that was a first but I knew how to cut them down I have one of those candle cutters I use all the time they all turned so black and I even had one in my bathroom that made my ceilings black and the wall black. I'm very disappointed that I don't think I will ever buy any more Yankee candles again .and for 33 years I never had a problem with them I would love to talk to a manger about this .
explosion of jar and shade
I am a huge fan of Yankee Candle, whilst on holiday in Florida i was at at Yankee candle outlet store where i purchased approx $80 worth of candles and oil burners, i packed all jars in bubble wrap and took them with me as hand luggage on the flight back to UK... i lit my Spice Island Holiday jar and placed my Christmas shade on it, and was quite pleased how it looked and smelt very Christmassy, watching TV and there is a cracking sound followed by a louder one and a large piece of glass flew across the room, i instinctively realized it was my candle and grabbed my 7mth old son of the floor, and blew candle out the jar on inspection was extremely hot as was the shade, i now have a nice red mountain of wax over my fireplace :( This outcome could have been so much worse had my son been hit by glass of even burnt by wax (have tried to upload pics but it wont allow me too)
I bought my dad one .angel wings candle jar with a hope love and peace shade it smelt like burning candle wax and black smoke came out it was horrid no purfume smell well the jar cracked and shade shattered into peace after 30 min use. It was ment to comfort my dad on aniversary of my mum's death not put fear of God into a oap and trash house. Its disgusting
This has just happened to my daughter, whereby my 10 month grandbaby was cut by flying glass, Sarah llewellyn, (from Yankee candle) response was literally so what, and have a medium sized candle as a good will gesture... Why? So that can explode too, no thank you.
We will be seeking legal advice on this outcome and their blaze attitude to a dangerous situation
black soot-ruined front room
Recently bought 2 medium Halloween candles from the Yankee candle website. Walked in the front room last night completely filled with smoke. Blew them out and opened the door to air. This morning, found the entire ceiling and Walls covered in soot, along with all the furniture. We have a large, rather expensive couch which now requires specialist cleaners with no guarantee this will work. We also need to repaint the entire room, as well as myself spending a full day cleaning one room, to my detriment as I am self employed. Thousands of pounds worth of damage over £30 candles. I will never buy from Yankee candles again. after some quick research on the Internet, I have found many complaints regarding this matter. Not worth the damage, time and cost. I have used many other candles and never had this problem. I have complained to Yankee Candles directly on their website and have had no response.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am in the process of cleaning up after my yankee candle, I was only having a bath and when I came back into my kitchen diner I couldn't believe my eyes, the room was full of smoke, the walls, ceilings, kitchen cabinets my sofas were covered in soot, it has taken 2 days to try and clean it all off with not much luck, my sofas have gone from light cream to a grubby ecru, I'm just hopeing that when I wash them them the colour will come back into the leather. I have had to hire someone to paint my newly built extension and hallway, stairs and landing at a cost of £500. There should be some sort of warning on these candles to say they can cause smoke, I have never had a problem in the past and I won't be buying them again.
My daughter brought me a large Mandarin Cranberry candle. I just now lite and the flame on the candle was really high and the jar is now black.Yikes. Could catch the house on fire! [protected] is the number on the bottom. I have never had this happen with any Yankee candle!
Same thing happened to me...funny I posted my friend posted on yankee candle facebook and the same guy that posted:
"In the US people do stuff like that on purpose then call the insurance company, spend months putting together a loss list and bingp bango...you can afford a swanky remodel. You Brits need to learn that if it works there." hmmmm well Dean...it appears you HAVE heard of this happening. You pretty much said the same thing to me! Do you work for yankee candle doing damage control? Face it ...IT HAPPENS!
Just so others know this too happen to me! I had to move out of my house while the restoration people go in and clean my entire home...and it is a NEW home and I am not in need of remodeling nor did I do it on purpose! I have right now over $25, 000.00 worth of damage. Tonight is my second night in a hotel and it will take up to 90 days to complete the work. It is all over my walls, furniture, windows, clothes, blinds...everywhere! Even in my refrigerator and microwave! It wasn't until my brother in law came for a visit and he pointed it out to me. My late husband was KIA and I take care of both my parents with dementia so there really isn't enough time in the day as it is to even notice the damage. But he did! Called my ins agent he sent out ins adjuster who called the fire and restoration experts and also another guy who is a expert they all took samples and pic and it was from SOOT! I only burn Yankee candles! The comments on the facebook site are clearly employees and they refuse to research but I see Dean did and he knows this is a problem but yet on facebook he plays like he has never heard of it! WOW! So I feel your pain ladies/gents to the ones who had damage done to them by yankee candles...I too will NEVER buy another one and will spread the word because by the dates of these posts...yankee candle doesn't care! The still have not answered me back...and with the dates here...my insurance company will be elated to see how long this has been going on with no attempt to fix the situation!
Yes the same thing happened to me and the living room ceiling was covered in black like cobwebs. Walls and windows are black curtains are ruined as was carpet and suite. The only thing was that when I told some people they didn't believe me.! I only noticed this this next morning as my daughter was in the house with the lights off. I will never buy these products again, and I would strongly urge people to be wary of yankee candles.
I am a PartyLite consultant and only because I was tired of many disappointments with my Yankee Candles! I love my PartyLite candles and NEVER have soot or destruction of my home and furnishings. You should definitely look us up online and find out why our candles really are the best! Did I mention our glolites are the brightest candles in the world? www.partylite.biz/duchessbrandie
In the US people do stuff like that on purpose then call the insurance company, spend months putting together a loss list and bingp bango...you can afford a swanky remodel. You Brits need to learn that if it works there.
Black soot
I recently bought the two 2012 Halloween medium candles. Last night when I went back into the front room where they were burning the whole room was smoky. I blew them out and opened the door. This morning, I have noticed the whole room - Walls, ceiling, couch, plastic balcony doors etc covered in soot. I have spent the full day cleaning (to my detriment as I am self-employed) and we now have to have specialist cleaners come out for our couch (worth A LOT of money) as well as painters to come re-decorate our room. All for £30 candles, we could have thousands of pounds worth of damage. Have contacted Yankee, had no response as yet. never again. I now see there have been a huge number of complaints regarding this with Yankee Candles.

not burn well
got a medium candle, it has burned through and left a lot of the wax around the outside, so it only burned through middle

Same problem with Yankee. I am also going to look at other makes. They seem to think that their candles are faultless but the original ones I bought didn't do this. In reply to Yankee candle if you read this yes I do know how to burn them and yes I do trim the wick and yes I do have the lids. and the shades. Your quality has deteriorated. Bye bye Yankee
I have had the same experience; Yankee Candle employee faulting me, the customer, for this same problem. I have been burning Yankee Candles for quite a few years, and know how to burn them using a wick trimmer, and lids...I have become so disappointed with the last few candles that I brought that I am done with them. Especially since my last attempt to get their mistaken corrected. Their customer service has shown me that I do not rate as a customer; so I have been looking at other brands including a local candle factory.
I got the Orange cinnamon number on bottom [protected] 16oz well it would burn both wicks at the same time and there was no smell won't be buying anymore ...it's in the trash...
I recently experienced a Yankee Candle employee faulting me, the customer, for this problem. I have been burning Yankee Candles for over a decade. I have their wick trimmer and several Illumalids. I know how to "properly" burn the candles. The truth is that many of the candles are defective: they tunnel and have wick issues no matter what the customer does. I have found that the ones that have burning issues stop throwing scent, too. I have returned several candles within the last two years half-way burned, tunneled, with a black, smoky wick, with no scent oil remaining, totally scentless. This is a quality issue, not the fault of customers. Shame on YC for blaming their long-time, faithful customers! Bath & Body Works candles burn evenly and throw well. Next, I am going to order some Kringle candles. Bye bye, Yankee Candle. I'm not tolerating your employees blaming customers, no matter how many times you replace the candles. It's insulting. Just admit that your quality has gone down, while your prices have risen!
Yankee would consider this a customer fault, the defect you are describing is called tunnelling. It occurs when the candle is not left to burn from edge to edge before it is blown out, as a result you have only melted the wax surrounding the wick and the more times this is repeated, the longer the tunnel will grow. The only real options for your candle now is to push the wax on the outside into the melted wax when warm, but only if the tunnel is shallow, otherwise you will bury the wick. Or you could scrape out the wax from the candle and burn it on top of a tart burner.

faulty and false advertising
I had a Yankee Candle Ultimate Car Jar in my vehicle, which the website boasts "Will Not Leak."
Despite this, I returned to my vehicle today to find a large red lump of gel on my dashboard with a stream all the way down my stereo and pooling in my centre console and around the base of my gear stick.
The leather around my gear stick has corroded and started to come crumble and the finish to my dashboard is now left with a nasty streak, despite trying to clean it with professional cleaners.
I have tried to make contact with the company but I am still awaiting a reply. If they continue to advertise these items with the "Will Not Leak." promise then they should be liable for every single car they damage.

ultimate car jar ruined my car
Dear Complaints Board, I would appreciate your assistance with this complaint. This is copy of an email which I have sent to Yankee today! I have uploaded the photographs which i have also included in the email. Thank you in anticipation!
'I am writing this email with great concern and annoyance.
I have used Yankee Candles for some time now and my complaint is regarding the ultimate car jar product. I have a new car which I am very proud of and I am most upset with what has happened to my centre console due to the Ultimate car jar!
I entered my car to find a gel like substance around the gear stick area on the console. I couldn't understand where it had come from and when i tried to remove it it was sticky and it had corroded the plastic casing and leatherette on the gear stick. I looked up to find to my astonishment the car jar had melted and leaked due to the sun. the advert on your website stipulates 'it will not leak'! see below which i have copied from your website. The car jar in my opinion is not fit for purpose!

Me too ruined a very high end wood dining room table. Anyone get relief.
Had the same issue, got in my car this morning to find a sticky gel all over vents...damaged the dashboard and hazard light button.
I have a huge issue with this and am not happy to see that the company will now answer emails or return calls? That's poor customer service. My issue is that I just had the cardboard Yankee candle car jar and it was hanging so as to touch a silver part of the face of the radio. This silver piece bubbled up and has a spider web type appearance of bubbled up plastic. Very disheartening. I will never buy Yankee candle car jars again! And they really should not be making these for cars that will cause damage to the interior.
I have one too, and it has a disclaimer on the package that says can not withstand extreme heat. I never leave my car windows up in the heat with the gel packet in there. Anything will melt with extreme heat. Heck, it got so hot, with my windows down mind you, that my rear view mirror fell off. The gel packet was just fine.
Ruined my car interior too...corrosion all down the dash board etc... cannot get hold of yankee who are not replying to calls or e-mails...terrible service will never give them my custom again
Glad I am not the only one, returned to my car today to find a massive lump of red gel on my dashboard and a long stream all down my stereo and on to my centre console. I cleaned it up before I had a thought to take photos, but it has stained my dashboard, made all the stereo sticky behind the buttons and where the CD goes in and has destroyed the leather around my gear stick exactly like it has yours.
I am extremely unimpressed. I threw the empty air freshener in the bin at work but as they aren't emptied before Friday I will try to retrieve it in the morning to make a claim against the company.
Can't believe how many complaints of this nature are out there, wish I had seen them before placing this thing in my car, it clearly isn't fit for purpose!
What does commonsense tell you would happen when something in your car gets exposed to enough heat?
no smell
bought candles as christmas presents and also some for myself, the candles had no smell and they were giving off black smoke and the glass of the jaw was black, left a black mark on the wall, the flame from the wick was far to big, i have use these candles for years and i loved them never had a problem up until these ones at christmas, i bought a new one just last week and this one is exactly the same, i am not happy with thee at all lately and for the price this should not be happening.

I have always loved Yankee Candles, especially Lilac Blossoms, Fresh Cut Roses, Lavender and Oak etc. and used the wax melts as well! They have always filled the house up with a wonderful smell, I would put wax melts in the kitchen and you could smell them in the whole house in about 10 minutes, now I don't even bother and it makes me sad! I use brands of wax melts I found at Walmart that are a lot cheaper and smell wonderful and last longer then the new Yankee wax melts! I still buy my favorite Yankee candles, but I usually find them at Walmart for half the price and no shipping costs! I have free shipping with the YC rewards program, but it seemed like the ones I wanted were on sale so I had to buy 2 to get free shipping! My birthday candle I get free came in the box lying in the bottom paper crate with no top crating on it and it was shattered and I cut myself on the glass, not a good birthday present, then when I went to get a new one they didn't have the fragrance in stock and I have been trying for over a month, still none, so I asked for another fragrance I know I like so I won't have to send it back! It's making me tired to deal with YC and I don't want to try any new fragrances, since the ones I have ended up in the trash, sad! Did the company sell or is it mass producing that is causing the quality to go down? Just curious!
I bought 2 yankee candels christmas cookie love the smell lit first one no smell at all never had this problem for what you pay its unexceptable.
i am having the same problem. most of the candles, and i have purchased a lot of them do not smell while burning. And i also get black smoke from all of the red and burgandy colors. I do not get the black smoke from other colors so i don't think it was "The primary cause of black smoke is an overly long wick. When a candle burns, the wax near the flame melts and the liquid wax is pulled up the wick to feed the flame. If the wick is too long, the balance of heat and fuel will be off" or else it would happen to all the candles.
I have noticed over the past 5 years or so that the hot throw from Yankee Candles are not as strong. Even the cold throw isn’t as strong. My husband also notice this as well. I also get a lot of soot on my candle jars after they are about half gone. I make sure the wick is trimmed to the right length.
It is 2022. I'm reading comments that are 10 years old, about Yankee massively lowering the quality of their candle's. It hasn't stopped! They are now selling for $30! What a joke. I have somebody the original candle's and the difference in the amount of fragrance is night and day! Before you could just have the top off of a candle and smell it's aroma. Now you can hardly smell it when it is burning for hours! I bought several on a half off sale. I have returned and exchanged them so many times and the quality never changes. I'm done. I'll never buy from them again. I'll just get Walmart candle's, they have much more fragrance and are a fraction of the cost. They deserve to go out of business.
I bought a large yankee candle home sweet home from Amazon and there’s no fragrance either I was so happy when it arrived now not so much
A new fragrance came out & a sale of buy one get one 50% off even better!¡ I absolutely love their candles, I refuse 2 buy any other brands. So I was so excited about lighting their new scent & after a couple hours I could not smell anything!¡ I lit the candle in my room I was downstairs doing laundry n as I walked up the stairs 2 my room I did not smell anything.
This really let me down 😕 now I’m gonna contemplate purchasing Yankee Candles from now on.
I have a collection of over 800 yankee candles in all sizes. I too noticed the "no smell" of the newer ones. But, I do on occasion find the older ones at the local thrift shop that are new for 7-10.00. The old label of yankee candle ( covered the front of the jar...not the new label that is long and narrow) still has some of the best throw. I will never buy a yankee candle from their retail stores again. I'll continue looking for the old style table at my local thrift shops.
I, too, was once a loyal customer, buying faithfully every fall and spring. I would allow myself to spend the high prices even though I really didn't have the extra money to blow because the candles used to be literally therapy for my soul, a soothing comfort, a homey and familiar friend to cheer the home and hearth. After I complained recently, the company sent me 3 larger candles to replace the 2 that had no scent and, as I feared, these have pretty much no scent, either. So even though the company responded to my complaint right away and sent new candles, their product remains useless and sadly, I'm now an ex-customer like so many other disappointed ex-fans. :(
It breaks my heart I won't be purchasing any more of Yankee Candles' candles. Years, as an avid customer with the company, it came to my attention an earlier text from a customer in 2012 revealed and denounced unethical practices on the manufacturing of candle products. Reading maryhall69's commentary regarding the no scent argument from YC's 22oz candles has reaffirmed me with her unbiased scrutiny as a wake-up call. I have had spent money insanely into buying these large jars in recent years, and no matter the fragrance of choice I want to burn after four hours, a scented throw noticeably was nonexistent, let alone a sliver. My closet, filled with classic jars I brought recently online, such as Autumn Leaves, Holiday Bayberry (oh good grief :'-( Mountain Lodge), Wild Honeysuckle, are now left behind as leftover duds. Not even a candle warmer lamp, which I purchase specifically to see if it can assist in drawing out fragrance, hasn't helped. It's is an outrage the way Yankee Candles mass-produce their wax products, to injure the customers' credibility solely to economize by using depreciating wax ingredients. This company alone was the "pride" of candle making and keeping in business with all its corrupted maneuvers, has become a fraudulent website. I will continue to purchase Yankees' refill scent plugs and room sprays, and if I need an assortment of candles, I go for the ones by Bath and Body Works, even though the web doesn't carry an exclusive selection of burning products. Thanks, Yankee Candle, for ruining my home's holiday gladsomeness with your non-scented candle jars :-(
Aww I love their wax melts so I was really happy to see they sold a massive candle in warm cashmere! My boyfriend got it for me for Christmas as it was so expensive here in the UK, but he told me they were still "on offer" at £12! I can only smell it when it's first lit, and when it goes out. I thought maybe I had "got used to it" because everyone around here talks Yankee Candle like it's a god but I'm glad I found this thread. It's kinda shocking how this has been going on years and they're still getting away with it. Also, my flame on my candle gets really high and it freaks me out. It smokes loads when I put it out but maybe I'm doing it wrong. The candles at Matalan (clothes store) sell nicer and stronger candles for almost half the price! Real shame though because I'm addicted to their wax melts!
delivery
Placed an order, on time, according to their rules, with guaranteed delivery by Christmas. Friends will not receive the candles because "we are backed up in our warehouse without enough help for the Christmas rush." Are you kidding me? A company like this? With orders galore and catalogs sent out every month? No "guarentee" delivery." What a joke. I lit my last candle from these buffoons. Time to buy air fresheners.
I wanted their Black Friday special; the bag for $25 with an purchase. So I ordered a couple candles to get the bag. When the package arrived, it was just the candles with no bag. The packing slip said one box and there was a note that said packed with love. I called customer service who said I had to wait 8 days before we could do anything. I offered to send them pictures of the packing slip and box which clearly showed there was no room for the bag. Eight days later, I called to find out they had no more of them but offered me another gift set; nothing comparable to what I ordered. This was the first time and last time I will order anything online from Yankee Candle. I was very disappointed in the whole deal; especially when it was that totally obvious that my order never included the bag...
Next time don't wait until December 15th to place orders. Even when it's not the holiday rush, some places take longer than 10 days.

I agree! No smell at all. I bought 10 candles, not knowing that the company had been sold, and under the impression that I would be getting the awesome housewarmer candles that would last and have strong and amazing scents to fill my tiny house of 1367 sqft...WRONG! I burn the candle on my computer desk and unless I am sitting right next to it, and if then, I can barely smell it. It's almost like the new owners want to lose customers or have a personal preference of not liking strong scents or something. Well, their personal preference on scent intensity is not what sells candles. Yankee Candle is synonymous with STRONG SCENTED candles and that is why people buy them and loved them. Now...nothing. I am stuck with 9 large candles that I guess I will have to buy oil to enhance the scents. Yankee Candle better ship up and make the candles with the quality that they once were. I am sooooooooooo disappointed I could scream.
