I was a student of University of Phoenix. It began when I was pressured to sign up, instead of just calling for information as I first intended. I should have never signed up for this school. When I wanted to leave the school because I felt that I wasn't learning anything, they dared to fine me over a thousand dollars for classes I only took for a couple of weeks. Now they're threatening to turn over that amount, which takes me at least two months to save up due to a set budget(I live by myself), to their corporate collections office. Why would any legit campus have a collections office? And why aren't they being honest about my money?

I mean that I had 1100 dollars saved up for my Boston trip later this year, but I sent it in cash (In a panic) because of a threatening letter they sent me, threatening to turn my money over to collections. I got a harassing phone call at work from the school (Namely a 'Lynn') threatening to turn over my account in 72 hours. I kept telling them that I sent the money last month and there is no way that I owed them anything.

I'm suspecting that someone stole my money, but I doubt that anyone will actually confess to it. Although they claim that they would fire someone who did that, I don't think they would. I'm greatly upset and worried about my credit. I'm even more worried that they will continue to harass me.

They stole my money and lied about me not paying them. This I am certain of.

I dont think anyone can make you do something you do not want to do. To state such is not cool because at the end of the day the choice is yours about whether you want to go to school or not. Please do not blame others for your faults. Take the responsibility for your actions but to say that others did such and such is outright wrong. I am a student at the school and have had a great experience just like the other hundreds of thousands of students.

Having a great "experience" is not the same as learning, which the UoP does not help with. They want you to post "I am here" twice a day, three times a day, and walk away.

I have quite a long story - and not the time to type the whole thing out. What I will tell you is that I am currently seeking legal counsel to deal with the problems that UoP has caused me. I paid off my student loans (from my UoP attendance) in June of this year. I went to the UoP in 2004. Shortly after my student loans were completely paid, checked my credit report and saw that there was a collections statement from UoP. Assuming this was simply an error that they would remedy I called them and kindly asked that they remove their entry from my credit report. The guy I spoke with (John - who was very rude) refused to listen to me and just kept saying, "You owe the money." I explained that my student loans were paid in full and he said that it didn't matter. He told me that they had to send the money back to my lender. I called my lender and they said that they have no record of UoP ever returning money to them. The lender asked me to get proof from UoP that they actually sent the money back to someone - so I called them back and as you might guess - UoP said that they didn't need to prove it and that the 'burden of proof' lies with me and that I would have to work it out with my lender. So now I'm quite angry because I do not owe them a dime (that's what student loans are for) - they have an entry on my credit report for several thousands of dollars...and I'm out those several thousands of dollars because I paid off my student loans. I have tried multiple times with them - kindly asking that they remove it from my credit report - to no avail. So...as my father said - I will now find an attorney and sue them for every nickle allowable under the law. This is NOT a frivolous lawsuit. I am trying to buy a new car - and would like to buy a home in about 3 months but will have higher interest rates because of their fraud.

I am glad to hear that someone is suing UOP. I found the whole experience at UOP to be a nightmare. I worked with peers who could not spell or finish a proper sentence. I am not saying I am perfect but I enjoy working with students that are true graduate school material.

Ellen, I hope you get every dime that is owed to you. Good Luck!!!
