I am so glad I checked out this company online. I have an "interview" schedulded with the AI in Charlotte NC with Jim Logan this Thurs 01/29/09. I thought something was odd about all of this too. I really need a job just as much as everyone else who is looking but there is no way no how that I will go to that interview. I think it is a shame for them to get a persons hopes up for a job. Hang in there my fellow job seekers and know you are not alone in your search.

It is unfortunate that in this harsh economy there are so many swindlers out there preying on those desperate to find a new job. I too was recently contacted by a person from American Income Life's Human Resources Department in Los Angeles, CA who goes by the name of Lilia Gonzales.

In barely unintelligible, heavily accented English, she informed me that her manager had come across my resume and was very interested in interviewing me for one of several open management-level positions. Since my background is in Information Technology, I asked her for more details, such as the title of the position, job location, etc. She could not answer any of my questions and just wanted to make an interview appointment. For an HR person, she was either very uninformed or unwilling to provide information.

Being an IT manager for many years, I am familiar with the job request process that must be provided to HR in order to fill any IT position. A detailed job description, job requirements, candidate qualifications, salary range, etc. must be filled out so that the HR recruiter can find the best available candidate.

The fact that for an HR person she could barely communicate and seemed clueless about the position was my first warning sign, however I thought that possibly she was just a first level telephone recruiter. My next warning sign came when I called back the number that registered on my telephone and spoke to her "HR Manager".

To begin with, he would not provide his name. When I asked, he simply went around the subject and kept talking about the fact that he'd come across my resume and had a management opportunity for which I would be an excellent fit. Just like Lilia Gonzales, he provided no information on the position and kept pressing me to come in for an interview me right away.

When I tentatively agreed on a date and time, he asked me to spell my name, give him my email, etc. didn’t he read my resume? Apparently he was so impressed with my qualifications that he didn't even take the time to note my personal contact information.

I also found it somewhat condescending when told to "dress in appropriate business attire" and "conduct myself in a professional manner" when I came in for the interview since they were located "in a professional office building in the Wilshire District". I guess he didn't read in my resume that I've worked for over 25 years for fortune 500 companies in that very same area.

Needless to say, after reading all these complaints, I will not waste my time with these people. They are obviously a boiler room for some type of bait-n-switch scam.

In case you wish to contact them and see for yourself.

It is unfortunate that you think that way, I hope you have success in whatever you do, but I would encourage you to walk a mile in a man shoes before passing judgement, I started with Jim Logan 8 months ago and I have made a little over 60k, I had sales experience and I have some marketing background.

Please do post untrue and untested comments about my place of employment as I will not condemn you for working at walmart, mcdonalds, or any other dead end JOB

thanks

To Travis Norman:

You are a complete and major tool. Your rebuttal to the previous post speaks to how large of a tool you are and how small of a man you are. Thank you for showing everyone on this and other posts how employees of American Income really think.

I got the same phone call tonight (yes...8pm on a monday night) to have an interview..Asking me to dress professionally and bring in a copy of my resume...She told me not to be 'alarmed' if there was others waiting for the same interview...but...the time they scheduled with me was my time alone to interview...I don't think I want to take up this offer and waste my time, when I could be sending resume's to a reputable company..
thanks!!

I live in lakewood wa. I got a call a month ago saying the same thing. They saw my resume and I have the skills they are looking for. I had to go to renton washington for this interview. For those of you who arent firmiliar with washington state, thats over 20 miles. Thats all cool. However I am in a weelchair and use public transportation. (a 2 hour trip, not cool) I asked them if they had anything closer and they said they would keep me on file for when another branch opens up closer too me. Here it is a month later I get this call again. I told them the same thing and it was if it was the first they heard of it. They asked that I come in Tuesday. "And dress appropriately". (duh, like i was coming in in shorts and tshirt!)I got to my present job today and decided to google this AIL and man am I glad I did.. I want to thank everyone on here from keeping from making a huge mistake.

They said EXACTLY what everyone else said.
Dress App., Bring a resume.
Failed to discuss pay.
You can earn 70, 000 a year.
Its not fair in this day and time that people are like vultures!

I also read that they are not part of the BBB or American Life Assoc.
They refuse payment of 97% of their claims.
A company to be proud of right.

Hi -- I'm so glad I found these posts regarding American Income Life. A man (he said his name was Grover B.) called me tonight at 8:51 p.m. (on a Sunday night!) He said my resume was pulled from Monster.com and his HR manager was very impressed with my qualifications. Allow me to clarify here that -- while I am very well educated and have a Bachelor's Degree in foreign languages -- I was a stay-at-home mom for 20 years and have only had one short-term (6-month) position since my divorce (and this was at an Optometrist's office). So I was already curious about why I'm so qualified to work in insurance! (I did work at a bank before my first child was born, but that was 21 years ago!)

Anyway, my instincts were telling me something was off. I did arrange an interview for this Wednesday -- the man told me to dress professionally, bring a copy of my resume, etc. That seemed very weird to me, also. (He told me that he didn't have a copy of my resume in front of him -- just my name & phone no.) I thought that was strange, too.

He told me there were positions open for Management, Sales, Public Relations and Customer Service -- however, he couldn't tell me for which position I would interview. I figured right then that it meant I'd be interviewing for a commision-only sales job. I need a REAL job that I can count on. Anyway, I was suspicious enough to check them out, and I'm so glad I did. I won't be keeping this interview in spite of the fact that I really need a job. I don't play games.

Also, even though it's Sunday, I called the business number that Grover B. gave me just to see what happened. The recorded message sounded suspiciously like Grover B's voice -- I just thought that was another odd thing. Good luck to anyone who follows up with AIL!
Regards,
Karen E.
