The owners of Rite window Peter Devellis and Ted Castonguay formally operated under other window company names. They have a track record of not honoring their commitments. Many consumers have been harmed. Please do yourself a favor and check out Peter Devellis revoked HIC lic #154003 at the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation [protected]. Thank you. Free speech is the backbone of American democracy, yet on the internet it's become perhaps "a bit too free". We expect to be called out if we fall short on our performance, and in those situations we do all we can to make things right. But websites like this one use no filter to gauge the accuracy, truth, or the motivation of the anonymous reviewer. Nothing we can do other than conclude "life is unfair"...and appreciate folks, such as yourself, who are wise enough to consider the source. Thanks again.

Hello Ed. This is Peter DeVellis. I agree with you. Ted is very talented and his contributions to our company have been immense. Although please do not sell my contributions short. For example, I was the one who insisted we terminate your employment... It proved to be the right decision... Take care.

Peter Devellis is an idiot. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth. If it was not for Ted, their second business would now be under water. Just beware as they as a company lost 300k in 2012. Not much for a big company, but this is a tiny company. There goes your warranty when your window craps the bed.

I'm Peter DeVellis, co-owner of Rite Window. The post above is true.

Before Rite Window I owned the Massachusetts franchise of a national window company. My partner and I wanted to operate an independent company and we both exited that franchise to start Rite Window. During the transition a customer of the previous business filed a complaint with the Consumer Affairs Office because I had installed a front door that didn't meet their specifications. I didn't dispute the claim. I reimbursed their payment and the customer assured me they were satisfied with the resolution.

Until I saw the post above I didn't know the Consumer Affairs Office viewed the issue as unresolved. I contacted the Office and found they had listed my previous license as "revoked" because I hadn't responded their follow-up correspondence. Unbeknownst to me their notices were being sent to my previous business address long after we had moved to our current office in Woburn. This is no excuse, because ultimately it was my responsibility to inform them of my address change, but had I received their correspondence my old license would have been properly closed. Regardless, I'm currently working with the Consumer Affairs Office to correct the status of my previous license. (They've been very helpful, but as you know sometimes the wheels of government grind slowly.)

Please call the Consumer Affairs Office and inquire about the specifics of my previous license; also check our current MA HIC License #138722.

Rite Window is proud of our record and we welcome the scrutiny. We have a spotless A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We consider the ultimate barometer of our job performance to be Angie's List. All Angie's List reviews are submitted by IDENTIFIED sources, and each review is screened for legitimacy by Angie's staff. Of the 9 window companies in New England with 30 or more Angie's reviews Rite Window has the highest percentage of "A" grades. (With no "D" or "F" grades). We also hold a 5-Star rating from Guild Quality. Guild Quality is an independent research firm that conducts post-installation interviews with our customers to gauge their satisfaction. (See our Guild Quality survey results here: http://www.guildquality.com/cr/Rite-Window/R47491510444VFR/ ) A reading of all of our online reviews gives an accurate portrayal of the way Rite Window conducts its business.

We thank the person who created the post above for bring the license problem to our attention, and we wholeheartedly agree with his warning that "the buyer should beware". For example, buyers should beware of any online post where the author remains anonymous. It could mean they were less interested in informing the public than they were in trying to harm the reputation of their competitor. (wink) Enough said.

Thank you. If you have any questions about our company, or would like copies of our Consumer Affairs Office and Better Business Bureau files, please contact me directly at [protected].

Hi Peter. I am not sure if you will get this but if you do I would love a reply. I am just looking for a better understanding. I am not writing to complain or to provide a review. The fact of the matter is I am unable to do either. I tried to work with Rite Window but they will not work with me! I was shocked! So the situation is my fiancee and I are buying a home. We are buying a bank owner foreclosure with a rehab loan. We have signed the purchase and sale and have a closing date. We have X amount of dollars via our mortgage lender we are eligible to spend to rehab the home. The home is in real nice shape. We are replacing the septic. We have already completed the perc test, had an engineer design the new system, had the new system approved by the board of health, obtained quotes and contracted with a contractor to do the work. Nothing unusual. The work will begin as soon as we close. We want to replace approx 13 windows, 6 sliding glass doors, and maybe a front door because we have the budget with our rehab loan. I contacted Rite Window for a consultation and quote. I was told that you will not work with us because we have not closed on the home. Rite Window will not even provide me a quote. I have worked in property insurance as both an adjuster and on the subrogation for a decade. I work with contractors every day. I was absolutely shocked to hear this. I was told by one rep. that Rite Window does not want to be in the middle of bidding wars. That did not make sense to me. There is no bidding as the fully executed purchase and sale is a binding contract. We will be purchasing this home and we are not asking for any work to take place until after closing. The thing is with a rehab loan you must obtain the quotes and contract with your contractor prior to closing. Makes perfect sense as the bank/lender needs to know the cost of the rehab work being done prior to closing so they can write the loan. After closing the work begins and the contractor are paid with the rehab funds at set stages of project completion. Seems like a huge missed business opportunity to me to not work with a home buyer like myself. I cannot imagine a better guarantee of quick payment than a bank check from funds guaranteed to be available and waiting. I am not upset. I just don't get it from a business perspective but maybe I am missing something. Maybe the idea of a lender being involved in the payment is a deterrent for some reason. I do not know why it would be. Anyway from what I was told the policy of Rite Window is they will not with home buyers until they have closed. I can understand not wanting to take the time to quote for a "prospective buyer" but not being willing to work with customers who have signed purchase and sales for rehab loans is an entire segment of the home buying industry that is be disregarded. It is not your usual segment where a PSA can fall through between a private home seller and buyer. There is nothing the bank who owns the needs to do for them and I to close this deal. It is just a matter or us lining up the work to be done, we close, then the work gets done and everyone gets paid with the rehab funds. I am must be missing something here and assume that your years of experience have given good reason to operate this way...I am just curious as to what that is. Could you enlighten me? We are going to go elsewhere for the work. I was just very surprised by this position taken by Rite Window.

We apologize for the misunderstanding. We have a policy of not providing quotes when the home is not yet owned by the party requesting the quote. The reason why, is often buyers use the quote to close their deal, but don't use our services after the deal is closed. In situations like yours it is unfortunate, but it's still necessary, because otherwise we'd be using our limited time resources to provide free quotes on jobs that have little chance of ever materializing. (As you said, we do know this from years of experience.) We understand your dissatisfaction with this policy, and again we apologize. We're sure you'll have success with another window provider, and congratulations on your new home! Thank you
