I adopted a dog based on the bio on www.magnificentmutts.org, www.petfinder.com, and what I was verbally told by Magnificent Mutts. The dog I adopted was listed as 3.5 years old and housebroken. According to my vet, the dog was less than a year old. This was also apparent in the dogs very white and healthy teeth. The dog was also NOT housebroken. It chewed on things, (like a puppy does!), relieved itself, both #1 and #2, in the house and didn't know any commands. This dog was doing damage to my house so I brought her back and the owner of Magnificent Mutts, Linda Latelle, said they would have to put to her sleep! She wanted me to keep the dog 4 more nights over a holiday weekend. The rescue knew I did not have a crate and was not going to spend more money for a situation I was absolutely misled in. The dog was re-listed on their website and Petfinder as being between 1-2 years old and will need A LOT of training! Clearly, one of these advertisements was incorrect, but Linda will not take any responsibility for this or for the damage caused to me by this. I was asking only for a partial refund based on the wrong information given to me. I paid $225 adoption fee, vet costs, carpet cleaning cost and disposal of items chewed because the dog I adopted was falsely advertised.

I adopted a dog from MM and was mislead as to what the dog needed from it's forever home. I was told he was house trained, he wasn't. I asked if he was good being alone for a few hours every day and they said he's an angel out of a crate - after a few days and him being adjusted I left for just one hour and he practically destroyed my house. They said he was great in the car but he tore up my seats (even with a cover!) and cried/jumped the whole time. I sadly had to give him back as he needed way more then I could give him, and it broke my heart. Every dog needs attention and training when you adopt, but I was mislead by MM as to the incredible amount this poor pup needed.
Linda kept begging me to keep him for three more days as his trainer couldn't get him and that everyone was "too busy to get him" even when I offered to bring him to her or any other staff member/volunteer. She kept accusing me of not properly caring for him but MM clearly wasn't up front with what he needed from the get-go. I told them my needs up front and they said he matched perfectly. Clearly they are either lying or just don't give a damn about the personality of each animal that comes through their doors. In the end it hurts the dog way more, and it's a heartless way to do business.

When you have a child born to you it's your child. When you adopt a dog and walk out the door. You own it. Whose fault is it if you bring the baby home and it gets sick from a virus. I think you would not want to treat it and bring it to a doctor but you would try to bring it back to the hospital and tell them it was their fault and they should pay for the doctor bills.

People want a perfect dog at the start. One that doesn't chew, is housebroken, and has perfect manners. Dogs are not born like that. It takes training, understanding, and education on how to raise a pet. Funny thing, children are the same way. We have to educate then, raise them, train them, and take care of them. Often people see a cute photo and want to adopt but actually not want to do any of the hard work that is necessary. They call a day or so later demand that the rescue lied and want a full refund. The rescue is a non-profit. They are not in this to make money. Too bad we are a "drive through society": too lazy to walk in and order food. Too lazy to shop in stores, and too lazy to train and take care of a pet. To those of you that return a dog- it is better for everyone that you get a fish.

Well to Parvopuppy. It is not Animal Cruelty because dogs can get it from other dogs feces. So if they are in a rescue with other dogs, IN CONTACT with other dogs in any way they can get it. OR IF THEY CAME IN TOGETHER then they could have had it BEFORE they came in, and NOT shown signs until that day, also shown up negative on the Parvo test taken at the vet. So also that is not a persons fault that they caught a VIRUS that can be gotten from anywhere. LET ME LAY THIS OUT FOR YOU. Your child gets pneumonia and is very sick Imma just call my cop friends and have them file charges on you for child abuse. yeah real smart . Do your research before you make comments on things you don't know what your talking about.

Sincerely,
Certified VetTech

Wow I wouldn't go there either just for the reason that their responses to complaints are nasty, mean, rude, disrespectful and insulting. Omg. No decent human would act like that.

My friend adopted a puppy (Phoenix) that came in with his brother (River). She and her boyfriend saw Phoenix online at Petfinder and made an appointment to met him and adopt him at a Petco event in Hillside on Saturday. They brought him home at noon and he was a wriggly, happy boy and yesterday, Sunday, at 7pm he got sick and was very sleepy. He kept getting sick throughout the night and my friend's boyfriend brought him to the vet first thing this morning (now Monday) and he has PARVO. This is a virus that is spread from dogs only and he has not been in contact with any dogs so this is something he already had when he was in Magnificent Mutt's care. Based on previous comments on this page alone, Magnificent Mutts' owner, Linda, is knowingly selling SICK DOGS because she only wants to make a PROFIT. Unfortunately for Linda, I am very well connected with a police department and not only have I contacted them, I have contacted the BBB and will certainly be posting this on every social media outlet AND, as Animal Cruelty is now a FEDERAL OFFENSE, she will likely be facing criminal charges and jail time.

You stole him! I did tell Romeoville AC and the police where I tied him. They looked for him too. After I went in one store and came out he was still there with nobody around him. I went in another store for three minutes and he was gone when I came out. Nobody in the area saw what happened you grabbed him so quick. My son was going to get him neutered soon. A vet office is in that plaza and the Romeoville AC is across the the street but you took him to Hillsdale. You didn't stand by him and look around. It was a fast grab.

Never never leave your dog like that all by himself. Don't you know that there is a huge dog napping industry and they sell the dogs to research labs and sell for dog fighting bait. Your dog wasn't lost you purposely set him up.

dave 989, while you are so fast to judge, try asking Romeoville AC where I got the dog. Please let everyone know how you left your son's dog tied up outside in a parking lot. To be clear this dog had had no vetting at all, you even told me that. Yes, you had to pay 300.00 but now your dog is microchipped and fully vetted.

My dog was stolen in Romeoville. He had only been out of my sight for a few minutes and suddenly he was gone. He turned up at Linda's Magnificent Mutts in Hillside soon after. They wouldn't tell me when or where they found him. I had to pay $300 to get him back. I think one of their volunteers stole him.

I am also a former MM volunteer. There's no doubt that dog rescue is an honorable endeavor. Not sure Magnificent Mutts is quite so honorable. Linda is driven by money rather than by what's best for the dogs in her care. It would be wonderful if MM could link up with better run, more thoughtful, and more informed rescue groups...like Adopt pet shelter in Naperville. Now that I've had a few volunteer experiences, while I respect what MM does, Linda and the crew have a lot to learn.

All dogs have prior check ups before being adopted. They rely on information from the vet to know if the pet is healthy or not.

I adopted a dog from Magnificent Mutts and per the description, she was 4 years old and healthy. We brought her to the vet for a post-adoption check up and found out she was closer to 7 or 8 with a moderate heart murmur, cataracts and severe dental disease. I understand it isn't very easy to figure out dog age, but based on her medical problems, any vet would know she is older than 4. I decided to keep her and give her the best life possible, but it's really too bad when they lie about the dogs. I definitely would go with a SPCA next time.

Adopt a dog or puppy from your local animal shelter or SPCA. It will love you forever.
