Scam and cheating
Complaint Rating: 12 % with 26 votes
Company information:
Jagex
United States
www.jagex.com

My son plays the game bought some items to assist with playing the game, oh the company changed hands and they will not supply us with the $80 of items he bought but gave a discount of 25% on other items ($65). he then bought more $65. Then on friday march 17th all the items he had bought were gone and they will not give a reason. They said someone must of got his password and took them. They could of been the ones that took it in 3 weeks he spend over $200 and it is all gone and they will not help. What a big ripoff, so beware.

You are aware that buying items is completely and utterly against the rules and that Jagex have repeatedly and blatantly told people not to do it because a) Its Against The Rules and b) The people selling the gold often perform rip offs?

For your son to have got the gold he would have had to of supplied his password to the goldfarmers (again, the rules say 'give your password to noone else' and 'don't let anyone else on your account'). As the people involved in supplying these items are involved in a trade that is against the rules of Jagex and against IP law it is very likely that they decided it would be cheaper to take your money, get access to your sons account, take all his items, and then use those items to do the same to someone else. Criminals very often don't follow the rules. They also have a habit of committing crime so I'd go get your credit card secured as its details are now most likely doing the rounds on the internet.

My advice is for you to go tell your son never to lie to you again, as he would have know that what he asked you to do was against the rules of the game and he should have known the dangers he was exposing your financial details to.

Don't beware of Jagex, beware of the ripoff merchants that you son conned you into giving cash to.

You realise that it's against the game rules to do what your son did. He brought it upon himself, not Jagex. Maybe you should read the rules to the game with your son before you complain about how your son was stupid enough to get conned by criminals.

Jagex themselves do not sell items or in game money for real life money. Both www.jagex.com and www.runescape.com do not sell items or money for the game. Your son lied to you if he told you it was one of those exact sites which he was buying items or ingame money from. He would have bought them from an unofficial 3rd party site which sells items and money, which is against the game rules and the company Jagex are strongly against this. Those companies, known as gold farms, are very dodgey and often steal money and runescape game accounts. After December 10th 2007 Jagex made it virtually impossible to buy money or items from those companies by introducing trade limits for in game players.

All in all your son has lied to you about the items being from the official company Jagex. He went on a dodgey site that stole your money and may steal his own runescape account, I'd also check your credit card for purchases you haven't authorized.

Wow, better change your credit card number, someone's probably buying a Corvette in your name. >_< Jagex have clearly stated that buying gold is against the rules, it's your son's fault he got hacked.

Who are you to blame a company for your lack of parenting, reading about the game and rules would be a good idea. The internet can be dangerous for anyone let alone kids. no ones at fault but you.
As stated above check your credit card as those gold selling sites are known for credit card fraud.

It's your own fault for not reading the handy parent's guide provided on the website. As others stated, Jagex DO NOT sell items in game and it is against the rules of the game. Your son has probably been banned and/or had is items removed. The company hasn't changed hands either. It's your own fault for not checking their website in the first place; so put simply you have failed. Epicly.

Buying RuneScape items for real life money is clearly against the rules. Your son blatantely ignored that.

Yes, Jagex does have a right to ban the account and remove the items. By creating an account, you agree with the Terms and Conditions that Jagex owns your account and items.

. . .

Seriously? This is a complaint?!?

I'm really quite insulted.
You encourage your dear darling 'poor' son to break rules and indulge in something Runescape so vehemently forbids and has taken steps to curb it... and yet you're complaining?

Your moral indicator is way off. Sheesh. Parents nowadays... So excited when they lose money disregarding the fact that they indulged in something banned.

Go read Runescpae rules.

"Game items must only be exchanged for other items/services within the game. Exchanging game items for items or other benefits in other online games, real-life money or other real-life benefits is not allowed. "
"You must not use other software to gain an unfair advantage in our games. This includes automation tools, macros, bots, or auto-typers. You may not circumvent any of our mechanisms designed to automatically log out inactive users.
You also must not use any game-specific third party software that encourages breaking of our rules, or bypasses the normal navigation of our website, or automatically requests pages from our website, or which endangers user accounts."
"Asking/trying to persuade another player to give you their password for any reason is against the rules and will not be tolerated."

Lack of knowledge of rules is not an excuse.

For shame.

Shameful behaviour on your part to complain about not being able to break rules.

What a useless 'complaint', ignore it.

It is against the rules of Jagex to perform real world trades involving Runescape items, gold, accounts or services, your son should be aware of that. Now don't blame Jagex for you being so naive ..

hello,

ive been playing the game for a while now and i dont have any problems with it. I started a quest called "Dragon Slayer". im at a certain part in the quest where i have to find some items to a riddle. I found all the items, i went back to the person and talked to her. all she did was tell me the riddle again. I think something might of got messed up because i went on a runescape tips website (www.tip.it.com/runescape) and they didnt say anything about the game getting messed up. Also, about a year ago i got hacked i did recovery things and all but i stoppped playing for a while. when i came back from playing again, i noticed some of my easter items were missing. at the time the toy seller in draynor said he could recover lost holiday items but my easter ring wasnt there.
