I have a second home in Sanford FL, the bears have been very active these last few years so I have been pushed to purchase a bear proof can. My hauler recommended I purchase the Bear Saver model, actually found one on craigs list, I tried contacting the company directly but they were not that easy to do business with and shipping rates were outrageous! The cost was around $260.00 which was actually not a bad deal considering I did not have to pay the shipping rates that Bear saver was going to charge me of $200.00 just to ship the can. I have had this can for a little over 9 months and it has failed on every level. First the bear dragged it away could not find it for a week (not Bear Savers fault) but once I got it back the bear just went at it (not even a large bear). He was able to dent the metal that surrounds parts of the can as well as damage the locking mechanism which I cannot repair and cannot even get a replacement part for it. The bear kept at it and was even able to crack the plastic which I found to be very thin and weak. I am very frustrated as I spent a lot of money on this product. I have read reviews on others products which seem to be more favorable, I have no choice but to make another stupid purchase for a trash container that is going to cost me hundreds of dollars.

Not happy with the metal enclosure I purchased from Bear Saver for our Park and recreation department, rusted out after least than 18 months not to mention that it was breached by a black bear.

Our Park purchased a bear saver dumpster and one enclosure, neither purchase has gone well. Both the dumpster and the enclosure are rusting only after 14 months. The bears have not been able to get into these products but the overall ease of use and functionality our staff and folks that use the park had wish we went with another company. Service from Bear Saver has not been good. Overl not happy.

Just got my Bear Saver garbage can and within the very first attempt by a somewhat docile black bear that's been roaming our property in the Northwest area of the great state of New Jersey this bear managed to bust into the can. Granted it took him over an hour but that does not really matter. I am out almost $475.00 between the can and shipping. I should have read more reviews online about this product, now the company will not even warranty the product b/c they claim there was no defect and they cannot guarantee that a bear will never penetrate the can. The design of this can was horrible to begin, its heavy and the latching mechanism is awkward. The district manager from Colorado Parks and Wildlife posted the following comment which I wish I read this before I purchased this Bear Saver Garbage Can "Is Bear Saver bear proof?
Wright said that the popular Bear Saver model that’s used in Aspen was once certified, but that the model changed and is no longer bear resistant. He said “At one point in time, we went to Bear Saver and they were certified, and then they went and changed the design of the container and refused to go back and have them retested.” he said. “It’s failure after failure after failure. And that’s what Waste Management uses. … They’re the biggest waste hauler in the nation. There’s really no reason they can’t provide a certified container.”
I copied this directly from the "ASPEN DAILY NEWS". Bear Saver is being dishonest by saying that their bear saver garbage cans are certified, maybe at one point but not any longer. Even if they were I would never purchase another one, They're are many other options and companies out there that have a much better product.

I have a similar complaint for the Bear Saver Bear Proof Garbage Can I also purchased from a company called Securr. I think Securr is actually the same company as Bear Saver or affiliated in some manner but I could not call Bear Saver directly to complain about the problem I was having they told me I needed to go through the company that originally purchased it from which was Securr, they were horrible to deal with when you actually have a problem. Securr was fine when I purchased the can, they had someone on a chat window help me out, made sure I ordered the right bear saver garbage can and I made the purchase online with a credit card, which I fully regret. I purchased this can a little over a year ago, started having problems with my bear saver garbage can about 7 months into using the can. Oh, before I get into the problems with the trash can let me say that the shipping was outrageous, it was as much as the 95 gallon can I purchased. Also when I received the can it did not look like a normal garbage can. I get that it is not suppose to look like a normal trash can because its suppose to be bear proof but there was a lot of metal around the can which made it look awkward and when I have to position this thing at the top of my driveway I don’t want to call anymore attention to it than need be. I eventually got over the looks of the can, I figure as long as it saves me from picking up trash every other day I’m happy. The bear saver can appeared to work fine for the first 7-8 months or so but then one evening a bear did he usual CPR on the side of the can right where the Bear Saver logo is and created a gap between the where the plastic and metal meet and it appeared as if the bear had bent a piece of the metal around the can which caused this gap which was not a big deal although now mice can easily get into the can. Don’t have a mouse issue but if they wanted or any other small animal to get in they could easily enter. The major issue I had with this Bear Saver can I had purchased from Securr is that the latch started not working. I believe it was because of the metal that was bent around the top portion of the can. I can’t tell whether the metal around the top affects the latching mechanism which is hidden in the front of the can under this piece of plastic. Anyway, it’s a bad design because I cannot get into this latch and see what is going on without cutting into the plastic. I called Bear Saver, t hey said to call Securr who then told me I could send it back for repairs but I had to pay for the shipping, ya right… I am done with this, will need to find an alternative solution, maybe an enclosure of some sort that I could probably build myself and it will look a heck of a lot nicer than a garbage can. I highly recommend not purchasing from securr or Bear Saver, product stinks and service is less than desirable and after all of this my trash is now back inside my garage.

The Bear Saver Bear Proof Garbage Can Was A Horrible Purchase, So Unhappy with this product but I no longer own it so its someone else's problem now. So true what the last person write, this can sucks! Had it stolen but that was not before the latch failed and I could not replace it. Very awkward can to use, not happy at all with this purchase, and shipping was costly. Had this can for just 3 months! I am going to try and build my own solution or look for something else locally or online.
