I smoke Basic Menthol 100 cigarettes and have noticed that they do not stay lit if I put one down in the ashtray for even a short period of time. This just started a month ago or so. My son told me that the manufacturer has changed the paper used and it will go out if you're not smoking it constantly. I have to relight my cigarette at least 3 times while I'm smoking it and when I relight it, I have come close to setting my hair on fire as the end of the cigarette now flames up when you relight it. (I have very short hair). Also, when I tap the ashes, the hotbox falls off and I have to light it again. I have been worried several times that the end has fallen onto my clothes or on the furniture and I'll burn myself or ruin the furniture. I don't know for sure what the manufacturer has done to the paper but I certainly don't like it. I think it is dangerous. I would like to know more about this.

I am having the same problem with kool cigarettes. I had to re-light one cigarette 6 times. The culprit is the paper. I wish they would stop using the paper or just put two rings that stop the burning instead of all the way up the paper. Maybe they want me to stop smoking because it is becoming a problem for me.

Basics are made from pipe tobacco which is more harmful and cheaper tobacco, yet they charge almost as much as a good cigarette. Not buying them again, give me a Kool any day

I can tell that Basic cigarettes are made with pipe tobacco which is more harmful and cheaper yet they make you pay almost the same price as a good cigarette never buying them again

These are the worst cigarettes, I lived with a couple when i was in college for a few months and they smoked these. the guy would come home and start chain smoking with all the windows closed, It would fill the house with sort of a decrepit ammonia stink. I smoked a pack of them once and noticed that after three cigarettes i had not succeeded in getting my nicotine buzz, instead just tore my lungs up. The chick bought them because they saved a few bucks on a carton. It's not worth it, plain tobacco smells alright, these just make you reek, and die faster.

My husband and I noticed the same problems and thought the Basics were bad cigarettes. So I went to investigate changing brands of cigarettes. When I complained to the store clerk she indicated that it was FSC and that all the cigarette companies have added this chemical (fire safety control). I feel the government has started this to make us sick so we will have to quit this nasty addiction!. We continue to try to smoke and are experiencing nausea, body aches probably from continually coughing up gluelike phlem constantly! I feel that the cigarette companies should be forced by the government to fund smoking cessation programs purchasing the nicotine patches which are $100 ! ! ! per 14 day supply for a couple of two instead of adding another chemical to kill us more swiftly! ! ! ABSOLUTELY FIGHTING A LOSING BATTLE ! ! ! ! !

I have the same complaint. I have noticed that on the "bad" packs of cigarettes there is a different color pull tab - it has a warning printed on it. - something about "light" does not mean it's less harmful. I will try to avoid those from now on and get the clear tabbed ones. .

I have been having the same problems keeping Basic brand cigarettes. I have learned that they have changed the paper so they are less likely to start a fire if dropped when someone falls asleep, just throws it down, etc.. I believe it has to do with a federal mandate, but not sure. I do know that RJ Reynolds is doing the same with their product.

I have just sent a complaint to the Company re the same issues. This has been happening for about 3 months. I purchase them at different stores, so it is not a "batch" issue. I am seriously thinking about changing my brand. Well, actually, I will.

I also smoke basic but full flavor kings. I am having a similar problem. I either have to drag on the smoke really hard and hot box it just to keep it lit and get a full hit. And no matter how hard I pack them the hots fall off when ashing it. And that's even if I can ash it before the ash falls off on it's own which us getting on my nerves. Also can't leave in ashtray without it going out. I am going to call there 800 line and complain. The way I see it they owe me two cartons. I've had to smoke double the cigarettes just to get my regular fix.
