Yankee Candle car jar melted took finish off center console

My car jar air freshener melted and dripped onto my car's center console from the rear view mirror. It took the finish off the console. I called the company and was told to submit a written complaint, photos, the melted product, and and estimate for repairs. I asked if they have heard this before and she said yes since we've had such hot temperatures. To my surprise, I found many similiar complaints dating back to 2006 (over 5 years ago!). I will do as directed and am hopeful that the Yankee Candle company will be true to its word that it will pay for damages AND that they will stop selling a defective product. Please advise if anyone who complained has ever received payment for damages. Thank you.

Anyways I'm used to burning them so I no all about triming the wick and so on, its about 3 quaters of the way burnt down now and iv had to put it out and I'm never burning it again! The jar went totally black and its left a big black smoke mark up my red and cream flowery wall paper ! I'm so mad its on my fire place and was place at the front of the fire place so wasn't leaning against my wall !

Yankee Candle ruined furniture finish

This diffuser oil is totally toxic to furniture. I accidentaly knocked over the reed diffuser and it splattered on my wood piano. Within seconds it started to "melt" the finish. I wiped as fast as I could but there are now notable visible streaks wherever the oil hit. To make matters worse I placed one of the cleaning rags on my dining room table for a minute and when I took it off a minute later the finish on my table was marred. i called customer service. They said i should call the furniture manufacturer. They had ZERO cleaning tips for their product. I find it hard to understand how they have an FAQ section on their website for cleaning candle wax but not the oil. They must know how corrosive this oil is.
If I had known this oil was so damaging I would never have brought it into my house. BEWARE!

I had a similar experience with a Dayna Decker Reed Diffusers. This particular product sits at a 30' angle and the oil fallas down the side of the vessel as it is wicked up the reeds. It ruined my $3, 000 dining room table. I contacted their company and they said it was my fault for not placing the diffuser on something that was non-porous. I will never buy a diffuser again.

I called the number for customer service for Yankee Candle Company that I found online.
They responded immediately. They had me take pictures of the damage and get an estimate for the repair. As soon as I sent them the requested information they sent me a check out the very next week. I was suprised that they responded so quickly!
Good luck,
Moxley

They told me that it was a problem in manufacturing that they were aware of and to send the gel pack, est of cost of repairs and a letter stating the damage to Yankee Candle Company - consumer affairs - po box 110 - Deerfield, MA 01373.
They stated they would pay to have my car fixed.

Yankee Candle wick burns only seconds

This if the first yankee candle — 22oz — clean cotton that I had trouble with. The wick flickers only seconds and burns out every time I light it with a match. I can't find my receipt and can't exchange the candle. It was purchased in lancaster, pa at the park city mall. The numbers around the bar code — 1010728 on the right side and [protected] on the bottom of the bar code with s. Deerfield, ma on the bottom of jar. I paid $23.50 for the candle and upset about this. I would appreciate you contacting me at: dana sutherland po box 570 new cumberland, pa17070 thanks, dana

Yankee Candle air freshners destroys dash

I see there are several people here that have had their Yankee Candle Air Freshners ruin their dash. I hung my gel air freshner on the rear view mirror and had a cardboard candle hanging on the knob of the radio. On this hot day I found the gel had melted and dripped down on the dash burning a hole where it dripped even down the front of my radio it burned the plastic and the metal knobs. What is this gel - acid? The cardboard freshner had gotten stuck on the plastic front of the dash and burned a hole. What in the world? I haven't contacted Yankee Candle yet but I plan on it and hopefully they will do something about it.

I just discovered this problem this a.m. Temperature was not a factor, we live in upstate NY and temps only reached the low 70's yesterday. The estimate to replace the two dash parts are $840.00. I am calling the company today to see what can be done. We've only owned our truck for 10 months, def. not taking NO for an answer. I have been a loyal Yankee Candle customer for 10+ years and will still buy their products (not air fresheners) as long as they do the right thing. I am not looking for anything other than replacing the damage that has been done.

i bought a yankee candle after being told by several people that they were good, and after spending £18 on a candle that u would expect to be decent, i wasnt impressed at all when i found that it had covered everything in black smoke and smoked out the downstairs of my house, from now on i think i will stick to paying about £3 for a glade candle that smells nice and dosen't leave u cleaning all day after lighting.!

Yankee Candle - fraud

Yankee Candle yankee candle car jar melted my steering column

I placed a Yankee Candle Car Jar product on the turn signal lever of my car because I do not like objects blocking my view of the windshield. I feel that it is safer on the turn signal rather than putting it on the rear view mirror as most people do. Within a few days I noticed that the finish on the steering column near the Car Jar product was melted and peeling off. I checked the Yankee Candle website for any safety hazards of the Car Jar and found nothing. The Car Jar product was not even mentioned. I contacted Yankee Candle Company by this email address:
[protected]@yankeecandle.com

This is the response I received:

Dear *****,

Thank you for writing to us today with your concerns. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the experience you had with our product. We would be happy to replace it for you if you would like.

Regarding the damages, we do recommend contacting your renter's/home owner's insurance. If you do wish to pursue this matter further, we will need documentation in the following forms:

1) written documentation of the event

2) photographs of the damage

3) return of our product

4) written estimates for repairs

Please send this information to:

Please allow 30 days from the date of receipt for a response.

So I gathered my information, photos and the estimate for damages (over$300) from my dealership and stuffed it in an envelope to be delivered to and signed by this Melissa Seymour.
I have a feeling by the other posts that my documentation is going to wind up down a black hole with the rest.

Sounds like a class action suit is in order here.

Same Thing happened to me! I have a 2011 Jeep Liberty and the clip on vent leaked all over my radio in less than an hours time! They sent me the exact same email for documentation, written estimate, send back the leaked product. The problem is, I had already thrown the leaked product out because I was so pissed, not thinking to keep it to send back to them.

Dripped and melted the dash...looks terrible. Not even on hot days did this happen.
These need to come off the market and Yankee needs to take this seriously.

I just incurred damage to my 2010 Toyota Corolla as the gel melted the finish off my shifter plate and took the vinyl coating off my dashboard turning it from gray to white. Needless to say, I am quite upset.

Same thing just happened to me! Brand new Kia Rio bought in mid-March 2010. Had 2 car jars hanging from rearview mirror. They melted and dripped onto my gear shifter eating away the paint. Also dripped onto the plate below that and it looks like someone boiled it - all bubbled up. Ruined my dash too! Went to get in my vehicle after work last week and had this gooey stuff on the dash and running down the face of the stereo. Turned the dash BLACK. My dash is kind of a beige/tan color. It doesn't come off. You can get the gooey stuff off but the black won't come out of the dash. It was a hot day in the 90's and windows were closed. Don't buy this product unless you live where it stays cool all the time. Didn't even have that good Yankee Candle smell to it. The product is worthless! John in Texas.

Yankee Candle gel air freshener can melt plastic

I purchased a vanilla scented yankee candle gel air freshener for my 2007 toyota tundra. I hung it on one of the knobs on my dash and when I went out to my truck after it had been there several days, I noticed a messy substance on my dash behind the freshener. I got a rag with warm water to wash it off and the plastic finish came right off and the plastic dash is actually pitted from the gel, like it had melted a little bit. I looked for a warning on the product and there was nothing that said not to let it come in contact with your cars interior. I have contacted yankee candle company but have yet to hear from them. At this point, i'm just posting this as a warning. Hopefully the company will own up to it. If not, i'll be back...

Sticky car dashboard? Sticky upholstery? Sticky yacht interior?
Though irritating, it does not mean you need to throw away your sticky stuff Or replace it totally with new one.
Sticky and melted vinyl surfaces have been around for many years. So far, no one has ever come out with a solution for it.
Saving the environment that encourage using less plastic and promote cost saving. This formulation is a non corrosives treatment that can restore melting vinyl surfaces back to good condition. The treatment will clean the dirty plastic surfaces, remove melted surfaces and protect vinyl surfaces from becoming sticky.
This treatment process not only can be used for Automobiles interior & exterior, it can also be used on leather or vinyl surfaces that were damaged due high heat, dirt and wrong protectant used.

£2133 damage to my Merc CD player and fascia. Insurance co has settled so am asking YK to pay the £250 excess or will send off N1 form to the UK small claims court for £ 35 as the evidence is pretty damning. They have 14 days to agree before I send the claim and documentation/pictures to the court. Wil probably use my solicitors to rep. me so thieir costs will escalate and if I wee in their shoes I would pay up and avoid the bad publicity and WITHDRAW THE PRODUCTS that cause these ( DOH!)

I would seriously take part in a class action suit. I've been researching this and I've found complaints as far back as 2003. The company had to know about this but doesn't seem to take responsibility. There is nothing on the packaging that notes the product could leak and damage a car.

Yankee Candle fan melted my tv

I emailed Yankee Candle customer support with my issue and received no response. So I'm going to post it here.

I bought a Yankee Candle Fragrance Fan a couple weeks ago. I set it up per the instructions, and placed it on top of our TV in the family room. It worked great and smelled great.

And then a few HOURS later, I picked it up to show my husband and realized that it had eaten a big ring out of the top of our TV. It ruined the top. I took pictures and sent them to Yankee Candle. I asked them to warn consumers that this could happen. No response.

Do not place these units on anything made of plastic. The warnings on the package don't sufficiently cover this kind of damage.

I accidentally spilled the reed diffuser and oil got all over my expensive dresser. That oil ate through the paint with reckless abandonment. This stuff is powerful. Remarkably, I got a lot of it all over my hands and was able to just wash it off. I guess it only reacts to certain types of surfaces.

Well I guess since it's been retired, it's a non-issue; wouldn't you agree?

Second-degree burns from the fragrance fan? Wonder how that happened from a 9-v battery? Stranger things have happened I suppose (like our ceiling fan light turning on randomly -- yes, we've had it checked; son is an electrician) -- it's the ghost fan.

I have had similar type incidents happen to me but always due to my own inattention (not completely reading the instructions and thinking that I "know what I'm doing").

I'm sorry to see Yankee Candle retire the Fragrance Fan. The battery that came with mine lasted three years; I also did not put mine directly on the sideboard or dresser -- I used a coaster. That wasn't in the instructions; however, it's how I roll. I never set anything on top of my television nor on the stand or the shelf below (except for the cable box and dvd player. It's electronic equipment and I treat it with care considering how much it cost. But that's just me (learned by experience from drenching a keyboard with a large cup of coffee, with sugar and cream).

As for the Yankee candles, I use a candle warmer, change the candle (scent) every now and then (or seasonal) since one becomes used to the scent. Plus, I've noticed that Yankee candles seem to burn more "dirty" (soot-like?) than soy. However, since I don't like fire, I rarely burn candles.

I think the Yankee Candle plug-in (diffusers?) are the best I've come across scent-wise, but are quite expensive. Every single brand I've tried will and has ruined a hard-wood floor (my own fault); so I don't think that is unique to YC and I have the spots to prove it.

BTW, I've only found a couple of soy candles that fit my candle warmer, and the scents don't seem to be as varied (since I don't like vanilla, coconut, peppermint). I've even tried adding scented oils -- expensive and doesn't help; can't use reed diffusers since the felines think the "sticks" are a new toy for them.

Sorry for the length: bottom line: YC is expensive and I generally only buy it when I have a gift card. Every time I ruin the floor/counter/etc., with one of these oil-scented contraptions, I could kick myself since I know better. MOO.

Our Yankee Candle reed diffuser got knocked over on the window sil and spilled all over my hardwood floor. It seeped under a TV stand and everywhere the oil touched it destroyed the finish on the window sil, hardwood floor varnish etc. What a nightmare. Also the Car Jar air freshener ate away the plastic on the steering column of my new car because I had it hanging on the turn signal lever instead of the rear view mirror like most people do. I put it on the lever because I do not like things blocking my view of the windshield. I don't know what's in this stuff to destroy plastics but Like a previous poster mentioned, "If it eats away at plastic then what is it doing to the environment or to people". I'm done with the Yankle Candles.

I didn't have a problem with Yankee candle, but I had a similar problem with a Reed Diffuser. I had a Reed Diffuser on my entertainment cabinet and one of the sticks was touching my flat screen tv. The oil from the diffuser actually melted or ate away at the plastic on the TV. This is very upsetting because the TV was expensive and who would even think for a minute that the oil from a diffuser would destroy my TV. If it eats away at plastic then what is it doing to the environment or to people? Makes you wonder. Lets just say I won't be buying any more of these. I can't believe that anyone would sell these kinds of oils without huge warnings... it has to be harmful if it eats through plastic.

I had this happen with me as well, but it wasn't Yankee Candle's fault in my situation. I had one of the car oil jars and my mother borrowed me car one day, found the scent too strong, so unclipped it and put it in the upholder. Unfortunately, doing so made it tip and oil got everywhere. It completely "ate" the rubber lining in my cupholder...chunks and flakes of rubber everywhere. I had no idea fragrance oil could do that.

Yankee Candle customer service is a joke. They seem to be very arrogant! NOT helpful. I've stopped buying from them because of it.

Yankee Candle warning! gel air freshener can melt plastic!

Hi I have recently been burning a Yankee candle and it was giving off black smoke and filled my living room with smoke too. When I went to blow my nose I had black sutt up my nostrils as did my partner. I am very disappointed as I have been using these candles for years now.

Will never buy another. Went out of may to pick some up for the holidays. Couldn’t even tell candle was lit.

What a shame.

NO SMELL complete junk! reached out to yankee candle... waste of time! no help. I no longer will purchase them. A tart would smell up my house amazing...now its like they're not even burning with a smell

I purchased an expensive Yankee Candle. I now have to fork out over £100 to get my hall ceiling painted as it is covered in soot from the candle. This has turned out to be the most expensive candle in the world. Not a happy customer.

I ordered two different candles from Yankee candle on the same day for Christmas. It was the first of December. I only received the red one I got for my mom. I still haven't received my sister's candle and we are a week away from Christmas.

The candle has just exploded in flames destroyed our window sill and left us shaken given the shock and the fire risk
As two seniors we are distributed and distressed and need compensation and damages
