My friend told me that he has found my name on the website https://www.checkpeople.com/background-check and signed up for their services. I got the result and cancelled my subscription. However, the owner of the website charged me before subscription and continued to take money after I cancelled it. What I going to do? I was very upset that I believed to their advertisement. I thought their is a free trial on the service because it say so.

I had a similar experience with them too. I signed up for their "free 7 day trial" because I kept getting fake job offers and attempts by SCAMMERS. I must have tried to look up 5 or 6 email addresses, a few phone numbers, and even a couple names of people about jobs but they never had any information. I then tried my name just to see the results, and still no information so I canceled my membership before my trial was over. I was surprised when I saw the $30 charge on my next credit card statement. The first time I emailed them about it and asked for a refund I got a very short and rude response saying that they didn't give refunds. That was very irritating and totally unprofessional. I couldn't understand how they were trying to justify charging me when it was their error and not mine. At one point I told her that either their employees were incompetent, or they were using the tag line "no refunds" as a way to steal people's money. Finally after a threat of legal action I eventually got a refund. How is that behavior ok or legal? Do we have any rights as consumers anymore, or do these companies keep getting away with cheating people out of money?
