Whirlpool Compressor failure/replacement

On Monday, 9/26/22, I awoke to find that my 3.5-yr-old WRF954CIHZ, Whirlpool® 36-inch Wide Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator was making unusual noises. I called my favorite appliance guy to come look at it. He told me he was 100% certain that what I was hearing was air in the sealed compressor, and he told me the compressor carried a 5-yr warranty, but that he was not factory authorized to make the repair. The following morning, everything in my freezer was defrosted so I contacted Convenient Appliance Service - the only Whirlpool authorized service provider in central NC. They originally said the soonest they could come out to look at it was October 10th, almost 2 weeks after the compressor died. After I lost my cool, she found a slot on 10/3. The tech arrived and almost immediately decided that the compressor needed replacement. As of this writing, they still have not located a compressor, so I still don't know when I will be able to stop living out of coolers. I have been in touch with Whirlpool customer service by email and telephone, and they seem extremely unapologetic about the inconvenience and financial impact of the compressor failure, given the ~$200 worth of food that needed to be discarded, as well as the cost and hassle of takeout and delivery and inability to store leftovers. Based on the many comments about failed compressors on this site, this seems like a very common and well-documented problem, which brings two questions to mind:

1) Why has Whirlpool apparently done nothing to address the design flaw that is causing these failures?

2) Assuming they are not going to bother fixing the underlying problem, wouldn't it make sense to run a whole manufacturing campaign to make enough spare compressors to fix the compressors that they KNOW are going to fail? Or would that give people the mistaken impression that they actually give a damn about their customers. This is a perfect example of the type of corporate apathy that puts companies out of business, and one can only hope that Whirlpool suffers that fate before too many more of their customers get jammed up like I did.

And here it is October 19th, 23 days later, and still no compressor or word on when (or if!) I might get one.

Desired outcome: I would like a new compressor installed and reimbursement for the $200 worth of spoiled food, $150 for takeout and delivery, and the $140 diagnostic fee from the service tech, and the $95 fee that my appliance tech charged. Total = ~$585.

Whirlpool Aqualift oven cleaning system

Purchased in 2021 from Best Buy. The aqua lift cleaning process is a joke. The only thing it does is create more work for the end user, i.e. cleaning out water in the bottom of the oven and more manual scrubbing. The systems does nothing, absolutely nothing. Calls to the helpdesk, provides no direction, other than to try a cleaning pad, which only lifts a small amount of the spillage on the bottom and sides of the oven. The executives of Whirlpool, the parent company, should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to produce and sell this process. They should independently reach out to consumers and offer a replacement with the same outer appearance. In addition to the oven, I purchased a matching refrigerator and dishwasher. I’m very happy with the refrigerator and dishwasher, the oven is a disaster and I would like to hear from Whirlpool with a satisfactorily resolution. Interestedly enough, Best Buy no longer carries this product, I wonder why!

Desired outcome: New oven without aqua lift technology. I prefer the cleaning mechanism that burns off all spills.

Whirlpool KitchenAid 30" induction slide-in range model KSIB900ESS

Purchased the above model on August 4, 2022. The cooktop stopped functioning on Sept 24, 2022. I made a service request on Sept 24th and the earliest appointment was Oct 5th. Repair service came and said that it was two parts that needed to be ordered. One was available and the status of the second part was unknown. he told me to call and complain to Whirlpool and try to have the parts expedited.

I have called four times and have not received a satisfactory answer on the availability of the parts. I asked for the stove to be replaced with a similar model. I was told that I needed to wait 21 days from Oct 5th before it was considered. I told them this was unsatisfactory and the 21 days should start from Sept 24th. to add insult to injury, they offered me $150 on one occasion and on another occasion a 3 month extension of the warranty for my inconvenience. In the meantime, I have no estimate as when and if the product will be repaired.

SO MY WIFE AND I ARE GOING ON 17 DAYS WITHOUT A COMPLETELY FUNCTIONING RANGE. I was told that were sympathetic because the one agent had a similar experience. I realize there are supply chain issue but the is no way to run a warranty repair. I want a new serviceable range ASAP.

Desired outcome: I would accept full reimbursement or an equivalent product replacement or the product fixed in the next week.

Whirlpool Whirlpool washer WTW4816FW2

I purchased this washer in April, 2022. I had the service tech here for 3 different times because the machine won't agitate or spin. Now after the tech comes out on the 4th time, he states that a motor board is needed. Also, because the washer didn't empty completely, I now have a rust spot on the bottom of washer tub. After many calls to whirlpool, I was now told that a review board has to make a decision on whether to fix or replace the washer. After many weeks without a washer, I am still waiting.

Desired outcome: Would like a new washer

Whirlpool Whirlpool Side by Side Refrigerator

My new Whirlpool refrigerator worked a week before refrigerator section got too warm, ruining meat, milk and other perishables. Called Whirlpool and had a service call. Technician tells me we needed a fan evaporator motor and harness and it would be shipped to my house. Followed up with Whirlpool CS to make sure they got the order which they did. No one at CS can tell me when I might get the part needed to get my $3000 refrigerator to operate. I have the part number and know the parts are available if anyone really cared to help out a customer issue. So much for buy American and Whirlpool products if my circumstances are any indication of Whirlpool professionalism. They don't care.

Desired outcome: Update part ship date before I return item to store to save everyone a hassle.

Whirlpool Whirlpool refrigerator - model wrs315snhm - serial # hrb1798522

This refrigerator was ordered on June 21st 2022, delivered July 7th 2022. 1st time It stopped cooling in the refrigerator side July 26th 2022 (it was troubleshooted by making sure it was level and unplugging to reset). 2nd time a call made to whirlpool customer service, Aug 14th 2022 (same issue). Had service technician come out but not till Aug 29th (took 1 more week for the part). 3rd time Sept 19th 2022, technician came out within a few days (said it's the same issue). Still waiting on part, that will unfortunately probably not solve this problem.

Customer service is always kind and professional (took at least an hour or more to get someone on the line), but I know their hands are tied to do procedure that whirlpool puts in place.

Now to explain further, this refrigerator was bought brand new, as a used one could break down at any moment because of age. There are 5 people (3 children) in the house and this seemed to happen when a full load of groceries was bought (approx. $100 or more worth of them go bad at each incident).

With the amount of money spent on a brand new refrigerator (brand new)... this should not be an option that happens. It's brand new. I'm told there's no allowance for the replacement of approximately $300 worth of food lost, not to mention living out of coolers so I can't buy enough food for lunches for work (another expense because food had to be bought out at restaurants daily). This is a huge expense.

Desired outcome: My desired outcome is to get a quick response from whirlpool and a full refund of the purchase price of this appliance.

It is now Oct 4th and no resolution has been made to have a working refrigerator. Bought New June 26th 2022. Frustration is high. I want this resolved now...not in a week or 2 or 10. I bought brand new because I wanted a working appliance. What are you going to do for me Whirlpool. I need a new appliance or give me my dang money back (which is my preference)

Whirlpool Dishwasher

I bought a Whirlpool dishwasher in October 2017 Model WDTA50SAHZ. Required service in the first six months, mother board issue. Then required service in 2021 because it was leaking. Then discover the top rack was damaged. The rolling mechanism that allows the rack to be pulled out so it can be emptied had one of the wheels broken (cheap plastic of course). So, I called the company's customer service department, and they directed me to the parts department which was a nightmare. Trying to speak with someone directly is like navigating a labyrinth. Ordered the parts and it took more than two months because the parts were on back order. Went to change the parts and they are now made of stainless steel and not cheap plastic, shocker! Great! However, the parts do not fit properly. It appears Whirlpool is using a generic footprint for their dishwashers, and I guess hoping the parts will fit all their models and hopefully work good enough. Bottom line, I will never purchase another whirlpool product again and I will never recommend anyone else do so either. The product quality is not what I expected.

Desired outcome: I want original parts that fit properly

Whirlpool Refrigerator

We bought our refrigerator May 25, 2022. When it was delivered, it had two cracks on the inside bottom of the refrigerator & the ice maker would get blocked and then bunch of ice would end up on our new laminate flooring. I have made 4 attempts to get this resolved and to this date, nothing! Can not seem to get a service person to come out to look at the refrigerator. On my first call I stated I want the refrigerator replaced with a different one. If we're having ice maker issues right of the get go and the cracks, we don't want this refrigerator. Lowe's would not own up to any part of this. Why they can sell appliances with no one to provide repair service is asinine to begin with. We also bought a 7 year warranty. Heck, if I can't get this fixed in the first month, we are wasting our money with a 7 year warranty. If we can not get this resolved we will have no other recourse then to file a complaint with Better Business Bureau and Consumer Report.

Whirlpool Kitchen Aid/ Whirlpool refrigerator

Good afternoon, my name is Suzanne Crawford. I purchased this refrigerator at Lowe’s April 2021. Shortly after my purchase I had multiple issues with the freezer over frosting and defrosting without any rhyme or reason. Ace appliance was sent out on numerous occasions to do repairs they replace the rails, the door, the icemaker the seal etc. I’ve been back-and-forth with them during my one year warranty with whirlpool. Nothing was done to repair the refrigerator and have it performed the way it should. They told me there would not be a problem because all of my complaints were logged within the one year. After multiple conversations with them they are telling me to go back to the manufacture there’s nothing else they can do other than send all of the reports to you. I called back in April 2022 prior to the time that the warranty ran out to see what could be done. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with breast cancer and have had multiple surgeries, chemo and radiation. I got up this morning and the refrigerator and freezer are both completely dead

I have been trying to work with Lowe’s as I did purchase an extended warranty apparently it was through Lowe’s. I am just upset as I spent 30 years in a law department for a major manufacturer doing product liability litigation. I feel that I did receive a lemon of a fridge and that whirlpool should at least provide me a new fridge as replacement or send me a check for me to purchase a new refrigerator. I am not asking for much I’ve lost multiple items over multiple times probably totaling over $2000. I do have all the receipts for loss product as a result of this. I know that during my career I dealt with a lot of unreasonable plaintiffs and complaints. I do not think I’m being unfair and requesting a nominal fix for moral poll. I have told two people about this refrigerator when I first purchased it and they ran out and bought it. Neither of them have had any issues with it in the year that they have owned it. Once again showing me that there’s a major issue with the product I got. Two different service outfits told me that the cabinet of the freezer is off. I cannot seem to get through to the right person and don’t know who else to reach out to my phone number is [protected] my address is 5309 Quarry Side Dr., Sylvania, OH 43560. My email is SUZY219 [protected]@gmail.com. I no longer know what to do as I am putting all of my items in the coolers that I could potentially save. This is also caused me major convenience through my surgeries where I had to have ice packs and cooling devices attached to my body and not able to use my freezer . Again I’m just asking for a quick resolution and to stop the stress and craziness as I think I have been through enough in one year with an appliance

Desired outcome: . Again I’m just asking for a quick resolution and to stop the stress and craziness as I think I have been through enough in one year with an appliance.

Whirlpool Whirlpool Refrigerator WRS321SDHZ08

Model: WRS321SDHZ08 S/N: HRA5105476

January 23, 2022 to March 27, 2022: Purchased WP WRS321DHZ08. (I had purchased a 36" refrig but it was too large so I had to return and get a 33").

Aug 1st , 2022: Refrigerator temperature noticeably had decreased and when water filter was changed, the refrigerator stopped working.

Aug 15th, 2022 I used the WP online to schedule a repair person in my area to come service it. He determined it was a sealed system failure and he could not repair nor did he know of anyone that could. He instructed me to call WP and report, which I did that same day. The person I spoke to wrote down all the information and would search for out of area repair person but put this as a "high priority". The refrigerator also leaked water on my new wooden flooring.

Aug 23rd, 2022: After hearing no word from WP, I called again and spoke to "James" in Tennessee. Again, searched for a repair person to no avail and submitted to (?)Resolution Team to determine if refrigerator should be replaced or money back. He spoke to the RT and they could not say why this "high priority" had not been addressed. James said he sent a message to the Michigan Representative for a resolution and was then told there would a 3 day turnaround with answer emailed to me.

Sept 2, 2022. After no word from WP, I spoke to Janquita (?) from Carolina. Again, she called repair service businesses near me to see if they could repair to no avail. She said she was submitting a form again for replacement.

Sept 12, 2022. Today I spoke to Julia in Michigan. She indicated the referral for a replacement had never been submitted from the 9/2/2022 telephone call. Julia was apologetic however another form had to be submitted to RT and I had to wait another 3 days.

Four times I've called WP, four times the same answers. This refrigerator is under warranty as is ALL the other appliances I bought that day plus the added protection. I'm very disappointed that WP would have such a customer service department to not back their products and for resolutions.

I've now been over a month without a refrigerator. There is no way to speak to anyone outside of James, Jaquinta, Julia either. Each of them were very polite but I know they could only do what they are trained to do and say.

This really needs to be bumped up and get this refrigerator replaced. I'm very stressed out and need this replaced. Thank you.

Desired outcome: Replacement or refund. The refrigerator is still under warranty and had a system failure.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Model # WRF767SDHZ01

Bought this refrigerator at Lowe's on June 17, 2022. Picked up and brought home on June 18, 2022. Less than 2 weeks after we got it, I noticed things didn't seem cold when we pulled them out of the refrigerator. About 2 weeks after we purchased and Independence Day weekend, realized we had several items in the fridge go bad, molding and souring. Pull out my Pampered Chef Thermometer and hooked it inside the fridge, closed door and read the inside temperature. It was 57 degrees. Checked freezer same way, it was 0, as it should've been. Call Whirlpool after the weekend, they send tech, he comes out on 8 July. Says it is the evaporator fan, he will have to order one, can I please have the freezer unloaded when he comes back. Ok, I do that and wait. He comes back on 15 July with evaporator fan. Discovers the original is working, but it is blowing downward onto the coils, not pulling up cool air to the refrigerator part. Has to call Whirlpool and see what to do. July 21 comes back out for a third time. This time, says the fan Whirlpool sent was wrong size. I do not hear from anyone again until August 15th when I tried to called the repair place and complain. I then texted the repair guy since he had called me from his personal cell. Another few days go by, still no word. I call Whirlpool again on 23 August. They say they can have same repair guy come back out, but I ask for someone else. They say they will send "an urgent repair upline to find outside of area repair person." On August 25th, I get a call from the same repair guy saying he is in my driveway. I am not home, as I had no idea he was coming. We rescheduled for the next week. He shows up 31 August, no new part in hand, and proceeds to "work" on the fridge. I tell him I had to unplug it 2 weeks before as the coils had frozen over and the fan was not working correctly. He plugs it back in, proceeds to rip out the "air tower" at the back of the fridge and tells me that is the problem. I cannot agree with him, but say ok when he says he will call Whirlpool and tell them what is wrong. I told him, I was hoping after 4 visits that he find it "unrepairable" and ask for a replacement. Now, it is 9 September, I spent over 2 hours today on the phone and/or computer with Whirlpool trying to get a replacement or my money back. They declined and said I could either wait on the same repair guy to come back in 2 weeks or I could find my own repair person and they would reimburse me up to, $150 or $300 depending on what was wrong. So, I've had this monstrous paperweight in my kitchen for almost 3 months, it has never worked correctly, and they don't want to replace it or give me my money back. I have learned my lesson. Never buy a Whirlpool product again!

Desired outcome: I would like the refrigerator either replaced (not repaired) or I would like my money back. We have lost a lot of money from spoiled foods and not having a refrigerator to use as we thought we would.

Whirlpool new Microwave Oven not repaired after few attempts in last 5 months

I bought a microwave oven ( a combo) along with a new build home in Feb 2020. In 2021, the microwave went bad and was repaired. Now on 4/4/22 again microwaved spoiled and today was the second unsuccessful attempt from the company to repair. Pls refer to the attached report from the technician. I spoke with the technician and he said he did what he could and didn't know what else to do (replaced the board and magnetron).

Its more than 5 months and its a lot of inconvenience, we had been patiently waiting but we cannot wait so long so I would like request you to either replace the whole unit or pay me the money to buy a new combo unit (you can take back the old one) which is around $3000. You can verify the price of your new unit. If its faster, I can buy and submit a claim for reimbursement.

So, appreciate it if you can look into it and provide me with a resolution. Here are the details for your reference and I'm waiting for your reply.

Service Job Number: SWPQ42D8A90D-1

Whirlpool REFRIGERATOR: MODEL # WRX986S1HV00, SERIEL# K74605802

Late 2019 I purchased the above referenced refrigerator. Interior LED lights went out within the warranty period and I called for service. The service man told me at that time there was a design problem with this model that caused the LED lights to blow out in the freezer section that turns off all the lights in the upper storage compartment. The service man showed me how to replace the lights myself if I continued to have a problem. Since that time I had to replace that same freezer LED light approximately seven times. These replacement lights sell for $80 a piece. Approximately a month ago I had to replace the freezer LED again. Less than a month later the lights were out in the freezer and main storage compartment again and one light in the Draw area on a separate wiring harness was out as well. Around 8/25/2022 I called Whirlpool. I spoke to a customer Service Rep who put in an order to repair my refrigerator free parts and service. On 8/30/2022 the repair person arrived. He explained to me my model refrigerator has a design problem where the LED Lights burn out. He explained it is usually the freezer light that goes out and turns off the other lights on the harness. He also told me Whirlpool has a built in model with the same problem that Whirlpool managed to find a fix but not for my model yet and he assumed they will have to find a way to deal with the problem. He managed to find the light that was out and replaced it but I had at least one or two more lights on a separate harness that were out and he would have to come back to replace them. His office has already contacted me to make the repairs. On 8/30/2022 I called Whirlpool to see if I could negotiate plan for when these lights blow out again. I was told "no" the refrigerator was out of warranty. I put in a complaint sighting a design failure in the unit and asked for the manager to call me. On 8/31/2022 the manager called and explained the unit was out of warranty and no-one will be following up on my complaint or investigating the problem. She told me no-one will be getting back to me on my complaint. I explained this is a design problem that Whirlpool was aware of and its not normal for LED lights to burn out every three or four months. I explained LED lights were supposed to outlast normal incandescent lighting. I also explained a design problem/latent defect was not my problem and despite the warranty Whirlpool is responsible for a fix. She diid not offer or listen to possible resolutions to this problem. She said its not going to happen and the conversation ended. This refrigerator is Whirlpool's high end unit. I purchased it for around $3,600. I'm willing to be reasonable but they shouldn't have sold me a problem and then just dump it all on me like they are doing. Over the past two years I've spent approx $8,000 or more on purchasing Whirlpool appliances, Customer Loyalty has to account for something.

Desired outcome: I would be happy if they would give me a free warranty to replace the lights whenever they blow out. I'm willing to discuss any solution but I shouldn't be forced to keep paying for repairs or pay $440/yr for an extended warranty .

Update by John Mariano
Sep 01, 2022 6:32 am EDT

Bottom line on all the above is while under warranty the service responders could not fix the problem. All they could do is replace the lighting that burned out. Two visits, two different service providers,

same response " This is a design problem, the problem can't be fixed. LED lights shouldn't burn out like this." Whirlpool was aware of this problem but didn't address the real problem. They were willing to replace a few lights but that did not fix the real problem. When it came down to investigating and coming up with a reasonable solution, they just walk away siting the warranty expired while not addressing the problem under the warranty while it was active.

Whirlpool Whirlpool

I purchased a fridge in April 2022 from Lowe’s in Midland Michigan the fridge has not worked properly from day one I have had service out three times and still no resolve I should have returned the fridge immediately as apparently I only had 14 days to do so but tried to go the route of service because I thought it would get taken care of I now regret that and should have returned the fridge I do not want it anymore and just want my money back but Lowe’s will not do that unless they get permission from whirl pool and that’s what I am looking for to resolve the issue as I cannot spend any more valuable time away from my family to deal with this issue

It has now been five months the fridge sounds like a lawnmower engine when it’s running and is very disruptive time to get it out of here and get the issue resolved

Whirlpool Refrigerator/freezer

My Whirlpool refrigerator (Model # WRSA88FIHZ00) ice maker stopped working. While researching what part I needed to replace, I came to learn about the design flaw in this model whereas the wiring harness for the water and ice is threaded thru a small space in the front of the freezer door ajar to the door hinge. Of course, over time, the opening and closing of the door rips thru the wires. This is a complete design defect and I do not feel that I should have to incur the expense of this especially when the fix involves replacing the freezer door.

Desired outcome: Whirlpool replaces the door or sends someone to replace the wiring as it is not a component for sale.

Whirlpool Side by side refrigerator

Bought a new whirlpool fridge from Lowes not even three months and the compressor went out. Whirlpool doesn't have the part to fix it. Backordered! Selling products without parts to repair it, is poor business. I have been without a fridge for almost 2 months now waiting to get this part and my NEW $1,700 fridge fixed. They do not care I'm going without. Horrible customer care. No one cares I'm without an essential appliance. I have children I can't feed properly. Offered me $75 gift card towards a mini fridge that cost $180 at Walmart: that's a slap in the face.

Desired outcome: NEW FRIDGE

Whirlpool Whirlpool electric range top

We recently bought (08/15/22) a Whirlpool electric range top. We discovered it has a built in automatic feature, that cannot be turned of, which lowers the power when the coils reach a certain temperature. For example, if you desire to sear meat thoroughly you cannot do so because once the pan reaches a certain temperature the coils automatically cool down. As the cook you do not have the ability to maintain the high heat you desire! That is intolerable and ridiculous!

I called the company and the representative said that it was a new feature that is built in to all of their electric range tops to prevent overheating. Well, thanks but no thanks

What gripes me the most is that nowhere in their information that is given is there any mention of this stupid feature.

Desired outcome: Everyone who purchased this product should get a full refund and Whirlpool should recall all of them.

Whirlpool Kitchenaid refrigerator, Model KRSC503EBS, SN: HR72304011

I have been without a working refrigerator since the first part of July. Kitchenaide service has sent a technician out from Kens Appliance 3 different times since then, and nothing has been fixed yet. I called Kitchenaide again and they said they could send technician out again 8/24/22. I told them that was unacceptable to keep doing the same thing with no results. The technician or Kitchenaide tech services which he calls do not seem to know what the problem is. At this point, it appears that a buyout at this point is the best solution. My wife does not intend to continue to go without a refrigerator which could then drag on into September.

The file with Kitchenaide is under my phone number [protected]

Desired outcome: Probably give me a cash buyout so I can buy another refrigerator. We are going shopping tonight so that we can hopefully have refrigeration soon. Your help will be appreciated.
