Webroot cancellation of support without notice

Webroot/SpySweeper elected to upgrade their existing software. Unknown to them at the time their new release no longer supported any Windows 2000 OS. My system was down two weeks while they diagnosed the problem (system unprotected). But that's NOT the complaint. Once they discovered their product would NO longer support Win2000 they simply said, "sorry, we can NO longer support you unless you get new equipment". I said I cannot afford new upgrades so give me a REFUND for my two year subscription. THEY REFUSED! Instead, they offered my another free year of service on a system I do not own!
They took my money, quit supporting my OS (without any advance notice) and then REFUSED to provide any Refund ! That is a SCAM ! I'm sure there are others in my same situation... time for a CLASS ACTION SUIT!

If you're in VA, contact State Attorney General's office. As far as I am concerned Webroot sucks as Anti-Virus. I heard the guy who founded the company died and they have gone downhill ever since. The POS couldnt detect all of the viruses I got recently had that either I removed or malwarebytes helped me remove and I have Windows XP.

Webroot customer service threatens

I was a happy webroot anti virus software client for 3 years. Their software had an issue in upgrading virus signatures. It would crash. I asked their support team online for help. It took them 6 days to get back to me. When I complained about the slow response their tech team member terry B. threatened not to work on my problem. I have never seen such low level customer service. Imagine a customer service representative threatening if you ask for customer service. Please never buy webroot if the management has this mentality.

Update. After posting the comments here, I responded to the e-mail address provided by social media support. My problem was looked at quickly and resolved in 5 minutes. I had to download a software and run the patch and then we found out I needed to re-install webroot. The software is working fine now. The person assigned to help me by social media group was quick and he would respond to me in few minutes. So it looks like this is a good compliment for complaintsboard.com. When you have a legimate complaint webroot management responds. I will renew my software subscription because I can't take one bad employee response and blame the whole management team. I have been a manager for years too. It would have been better if someone from their office had called and apologized.

Webroot charges for renewal that are not authorized

I noticed a charge to my bank account for $42 Webroot Software knowing full well that I never authorized this. After reading other complaints in here about Webroot scamming other people, now I'm really ticked off. I'm calling my bank to stop these payments and get a credit. This company has to be stopped

Most of us never read the fine print on anything and Corporations know this using it to their advantage. Perhaps doing away with the fine print would be great for consumers and restore confidence in Corporate America.

As other people have listed, I too have been charged for $32.57 unauthorized subscription. I called number and said estimated time of wait to speak with customer service rep was over 90 minutes. I emailed the suggested refund site and nothing. Not sure what to do next!

I had Webroot Spy Sweeper in the past. In Feb.2009 I had opted out of automatic renewal. On Feb. 14, 2011 I received an email informing me that Webroot automatically renewed my subscription. Since I opted out of auto renewal plus I had removed webroot spy sweeper from my computer some time ago this was an UNAUTHORITIZED CHARGE. I have tried notifying them by their "refund website" as instructed via telephone but a message came back stating they were having trouble processing my request and they notified their customer service and I would receive an email answer back within 24 hrs. On Feb. 14 I had also tried to request a refund via email and was supposed to receive and email back from them within 24 hrs. That was 144 hrs ago. I believe Webroot is intentionally not following up since they have a 30 day refund policy. I want my $32.05 refund. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

I bought my webroot at best buy and installed it last week. I have had nothing but problems since then. The return process is difficult for me since I am disabled and do not get out much. So I have tried to get the product to work and it does one minute and not the next. When the system is off and I log back in there is not protection. Very disappointed.

This website locked up my computer, so I gave my credit card info to get the anti-virus. Not only did it not give me the spyware I thought I was paying for, it locked up my computer and I had to take it to be fixed, which cost me $200.00. Then it has charged the $54.95 for March and now I got my statement and there is another charge for $42.75 for the month of April. This is unheard of. I want my credit card reinbursed for the 2 months I was charged now. I don't even have this anti-spyware, I had to purchase Norton, when it was being repaired.

They sell anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Maybe you took your computer to a tech like Best Buy or something. Their billings are on auto-renewal.

Webroot unauthorized credit card charges

webroot software charged my credit card account for a virus spyware renewal. I did not sign up for automatic renewal. I am retired, 69 years old, and live on social security which is very small. I was told by Webroot that since the charge was in July I had waited too long (October) to get a refund or reversal of charges. I told them I don't even have that program on my new computer. They requested my email address to send it to me for download since I had to pay anyway.

A few days ago I was charged again as auto renewal on this same software that I had gone on-line to order a year ago. I had kept getting notices on the computer that my program was expired and was directed on-line to purchase a renewal, but I did not sign up for auto-renewal that time either. I wouldn't have purchased the renewal in 10/2009 had I known there was already an automatic renewal charged to me. I was ill during that time period and under heavy medication. I thought I fixed this problem a year and a half ago and now it back.

I feel that they took advantage of me. I have a different software for virus protection purchased when I bought my new computer. Now I have two programs that do the same thing.

Webroot no refund returned yet!!!

I have been trying to get my refund since April 2010. The cost of the anti virus of over $32 is alot of money to me. I cannot afford to not be refunded and just lose it completely!
I need that money too much. BUT I am entitled to my money anyway! Whether it is $1 or $1000! It is MY money & you gave me a product that did not work, I sent it back, you promised a refund & did not comply & should be sued by everyone . You are a thief! You need to lose your business. You are a dishonest company! People & Buyer BEWARE!
I DEMAND my complete refund Immediately & will be turning you over to the Better Business Bureau & anything else I can do to help someone else not lose their money like us or have to go thru this long ordeal like we all have.

Webroot attention to detail (lack of)

I purchased Webroot after I spoke with my company IT Guru, who said it was top notch and top of the line for spam/ malware issues. I had to agree at the time and the past 2 years have been superb! I just got the itch to try their new "BETA " upgrade on a trial basis, But got" the shaft" instead. They didn't really prepare for this offering. My guess is they wanted to beat MSN with their "BETA " project and just flat out blew it!. I got a FAtal error when it tried to update, then it it wouldn't let me go back to the prior verson 6.1.0.145 which is actually pretty solid in all respects. When I called for help, , The beta Team had gone hone for the weekend! Leaving my system virtually naked against al the crap thats comes wthout adequate coverage. So I trotted myself to BEST BUY spent $ 64.19 om Kapersky 2010 Antivirus, wich has finally gotten a grip on the crap that hit this weekend. I called tonight : spoke to Mike, who tossed me over the Beta crew Who had just signed off for the day! after spending 78 minutes on hold, " robo attendant" said nore than 30 mins. Called back and they were closed for the Day.. which is a bunch of [protected]@#%&.. Another fine example of POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! How long do they expect to be #1, if they can't back-up what they sell, Look @ th BIG3 automakers and Toyota! they all took a bad tumble.. I guess if you get your problem solved you go else where.. Wake -UP WEBROOT !

Webroot webroot renewal quarantine blackmail

I bought a version of webroot and have renewed upgraded since at least 2006.

May 21, 2010 I turned off autorenew - I dont like the concept and my credit card is not active.

Well today WEBROOT fails me. Despite having paid $120-$150 for this product. I get a rogue advertising spyware - infects my system tray. looks bad, worse than it really is I think, disables my other virus detection programs and shuts down my ports... great.

I run webroot - it finds the suspect but will not remove / quarantine... tells me I must have an active subscription to quarantine!... It seems to me I have paid for this product 3+ times over... and now a few days after I dont auto renew it is unusable and (and WILL NOT PROTECT me from what I have paid for?) Is this right?

I can understand not being able to get latest updates(which just slow my computer down), or newest virus lists but to allow me to get a virus / spyware that is a slap in the face and fraudulent. It says all the time you are protected from 1million virus definitions but apparently not really.

- Anyone had a similar experience?

Webroot if you are reading - I was hoping to renew but not for $59+ (as a loyal customer penalty) when I see coupon codes for $19 - $29? why the renewal penalty?. http://www.offers.com/webroot/ I believe I am done with your products - my email is [protected]@yahoo.com.

I had Webroot for several years. they went through a transition. I had to buy a new package (which I was ok with) - I choose the 3 yr package. once installed the key they sent me did not work, and no storage appeared for me to back up to. I called for support, was told in three different calls they would transfer me totech support, wherein a autoanswer told me it would be an hour or more for install help. I called back the 1-866 number, asked for supervisor, got transfered to the "wait an hour" recording again. So I bought something that does not work, and the only way I can get help under reasonable timeframs is to pay additional fee. this is a rip off.

I tried Webroot AV for about a year and found the product to invasive, required too much baby sitting. The annual anniversary of my Webroot purchase just came around. They have RECURRING BILLING, and want me to re-up. I have the right, of course, to 'opt-out', just click here.

Well it seems that to avoid the recurring billing and leave Webroot, one must provide the registration code they initially used to UNLOCK the product. Is that great or what? What customer service. Great e-commerce.

If you had/have webroot AV, keep that license code handy. Thumbs down, .

In August of 2009 I purchased Webroot Security Essentials for a period of three years. Two months ago this software failed me and allowed Security Tool to infect my computer and essentially shut it down. I lost files, suffered a lot of inconvenience and had to pay someone to get rid of this virus for me.

Today I decided to approach the company for a refund of the unused portion of the three years. Guess what? No luck. I was told that had I called within 30, maybe 60 days that they would have done a refund. So with that kind of corporate policy they only guaranty their software for 60 days. After that you are on your own.

So why pay these people money to NOT PROTECT your computer
when equal or better software is available?

After purchasing Webroot antivirus software I tried to install this on my computor using the instructions provided by Webroot and my monitor went completely black. I then followed the 30 day money back guarantee instructions to return this software. I received nothing from Webroot and am out $40 +shipping. This is just a another big consumer rip-off.

Webroot has locked my computer until I buy from them. Best buy and webroot have a scam going. I asked webroot to remove their stuff from my 8 year old laptop. They refused and told me they hope I sue them. My computer is worth 100 bucks and they want 250 and 20 a month to "fix it" it is complete bullcrap. I am going to pursue a lawsuit. I bought a computer in 2005 and placed web root on it. Stopped using the computer in 2007 due to electrical problems and now realize that we have been charged $43 each year for seven years. I noticed the charge this week and web root said they will only refund this years charge. Unbelievable!

Hello timadams406,

This is Greg from the Webroot Support Team reaching out to you to see if I can help you out.

When you submit a Support Ticket from within SecureAnywhere you will receive a response within 72 hours of submission, but usually sooner. When SecureAnywhere detects an infection it will notify you of the infection(s) found and then scan and attempt to remove the infection. If the infected files are possibly System files or other important files it then moves them to Quarantine where they can not harm or compromise any other file and you therefore do not need to "delete" the files. I will send you an email with my contact information. You may also want to call our Technical Support department at [protected] from 7 AM to 6 PM M-F Mountain Time. Technical Support, including threat removal is free with your subscription.

Thank you,
Greg Davis

Webroot unauthorized credit card charge

Webroot has charged my credit card without my authorization for their stupid software, after I sent them more than one e-mail telling them to not do that. Nothing and they did it anyway. When you try to call them, they don't talk to you, just send you to another site to avoid dealing with the public. I'll never use them again.

Webroot refund for autorenewal

Webroot autorevewed by anti virus software. I have cancelled the autorenewal and attempted to obtain a refund on their website. I got a prompt that my request was beyond 30 days cancellation period. My invoice was dated March 15, 2010, I attempted to obtain a refund on April 12, 2020. This is not 30 days, it was 28 days. You are unable to speak to a breathing person no matter what you do and I am very disallusioned with everything about this company. I would never consider doing business with them again.

I would agree on the class action suit. I have also been charged twice as Fawn posted above in 2010. We're now in [protected] and their deceptive practices continue in that regard in addition to setting you up for automatic renewal without informing you at purchase time. I've been an IT professional for 30 years and have used all types of Antivirus packages for my customer's over the years, but it seems the new trend is that you have to agree to the auto-renewal during install. I saw this with Avast just this past week, but at least they displayed the policy BEFORE I submitted payment, so I opted out. Nevertheless, Webroot not only charged me twice without any real consent, but they charged me huge dollars, to the tune of $160! The SecureAnywhere 3-User license product can be had for $25 on Amazon. Disgraceful. Now here's the kicker. They charged me $85 twice (hence $160) for the same 3-User license installed on both mine and the wife's laptop! How the heck do you charge multiple times for an already existing multi-user license. I switched to Webroot from AVIRA several years ago, because of the same issue. Now Webroot has learned from the competition on how to rip people off!

I renewed my Webroot as was on the screen of the computer. No problem, the cost was $31.90, still no problem BUT I have been charged TWO times the same day for this service. I just want a REFUND for the additional $31.90 I was charged on my Mastercard . I have the invoice from MC, and I will copy and send, just please tell me what to do. When I purchased this from Best Buy they said I would never have to urchase Webroot again, that it was always FREE. As you can see by your computer I have taken the new one every year, BUT this is the FIRST time I have been billed TWO times.
PLEASE HELP!

Hi Fawn - I’m with Webroot Customer Support and am sorry to hear about this. I’d like to help you get this resolved and get the money refunded to your account. We have a auto-renewal policy which is designed to keep your computer protected by giving uninterrupted protection. With this policy, we also send out several emails in advance reminding that this will take place. Since it seems you did not receive the emails, I have asked one of our customer service representatives to contact you to get this taken care of.

Recently received an e-mail from Webroot advising to download lastest version of WISE (7.0.4.93). Upon doing so, the process simultaneously uninstalled my previous version of the software.

The newest version has essentially made my system unusable. Issues: unable to open more than one instance of Firefox browser at once; unable to open any msnbc video news item wherein the pathway starts with "javascript" (not true if using IE browser); Firefox browser fails (closes) every 15 - 20 minutes; screen functionality freezes after approximately 30 minutes, e.g., not able to open my AT&T Yahoo e-mail account from home page; etc., etc.

Have called Webroot tech service every business day for past 2 weeks, and recording advises of wait times exceeding 1 hour-once over 2 hours! Have submitted 4 tech request e-mails, with one answer-though suggested instructions were not for the correct WISE software.

Calls to Webroot sales & marketing result in advise to use their "paid" tech service. The only thing I want is fr them to tell me how to retrieve/re-download the previous version of the software that I have paid for, and which does not expire until 12/10.

Webroot spysweeper anti-virus with anti-malware

Early termination of Spyweeper Anti-virus with Anti-Malware updates subscription and attempts to trick user into paying a renewal fee. Watch out for this practice from Webroot Software Inc. ( I have been with Webroot for 5+ years, but maybe Robert Nardelli joined up with them recently and plans to hose customers like he did at Home Depot and Chrysler) Webroot deactivated my account with 8 +months left on my subscription with no explanation. Even when I inquired by email as to what happened their response was that it was expired and I could renew for another year by paying $19.95 again. This unexplained early termination happened before and not that long ago, but I renewed that time because I thought a year had gone by (wrong! I still had 2 + months left on that subscription). Webroot is short changing its customers by arbitrarily terminating support subscriptions early then seeking renewal fees. I use to be a long time customer and supportor, but no more. There are equal or better products out there that are free or of equal cost (but with less system overhead). Only thing that comes to mind is that the company must be on shaky financial ground to resort to this behavior.

Webroot unauthorized renewal

I did not authorize renewal, am not signed up for renewal and received charge of $39.95. Now I have the burden of time and hassle for opting out of something I never signed up for and requesting refund. I will not use this again, will pay more for a company that I can trust.

I have uninstalled your software some 10 months ago and I never authorized this auto renewal It seems your phone and easy refund is not so easy. I want my refund as quickly as you took it my e-mail
mknmerk@aol.com. I have already notified my c-card and put in a complaint with them. I would appriciate a reply, and a number where I can talk to someone, as the numbers I call never seem to be answered.
Thank you,
Mirko K Mikan

Webroot cancelled 12/09 and need refund for 1/10 charges of $40.35. tried for hours on line without success.

Sent a letter of cancelation on 12/09/09 of the Webroot spy sweeper. I no longer wanted the service.
I just recieved my statement from Bank of America with an automatic charge from Webroot of $40.35.
It had been uninstalled and cancelled.
Please credit my account with that unauthorized charge.
Thank You

That's because it's spyware and it was never going to do anything good for your computer. I'm sorry to say, but you got scammed.

Webroot poor service

I ordered their 24/7 antivirus removal. When I called for service they told me that I had to make an appointment a week later. When I questioned their 24/7 service and the reason for the delay the service rep became rude and condescending and hung up on me. When I tried to call back she hung up on me. I was finally able to get a refund but the experience was awful. I would not recommend buying anything from this company.
