Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] Barefoot rentals a fraudulent company will charge your credit card

I booked with VRBO thinking that I would be protected by this company and the rental company was barefoot rentals on rosemerry 30 a. The house is Flying Dutchman. Upon arriving we realized there was soo much mold all over the house, bathrooms kitchen and even utensils. It was filthy beyond speak. We were concerned and we contacted the owner and he denied. By the end of the night he has canceled the reservation and VRBO confirmed that the charge woul be only $604. 00 and the rest is refunded. So we moved to another location that was cleaner. Little did we know that this Jared pool was a scammer and has charged the card for $5700.00 and the American Express confirmed that he has withdrawn the money and that I should contact him. Well little did I know he was a scammer and VRBO was clueless about it all. I would not trust VRBO nor this barefoot rentals. u book thru VRBO but your credit card number number is given to 3 rd parties So u sure are not protected. They could care less what happens to u.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] Zero help with complaints

Do not fall for purchasing VRBO's insurance. I did and it turned out to be worthless. We were given a mandatory evacuation from the State of South Carolina during Hurricane Florence. By state law any renters must evacuate. The owner we dealt with had no leniency and refused to give us any money. We lost 5 out of 7 days. I contacted VRBO they told me that the insurance they recommended on their site covered Mandatory evacuations. They do not even know what they are selling and pushing on their own website. The insurance is issued from CSA Travel Protection. VRBO said I should file a complaint against the owner of the property. I did through a reply to their email. They came back and told me that I could not file a complaint. Lesson learned: VRBO will not back you or help you when you are dissatisfied.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] technical glitches in software cost us money

Lesson Learned and We Were Burned - Sept 2018

I had reserved lodging before leaving on my vacation. But, within the first several days of my vacation, one of my lodging confirmations cancelled. I had to quickly locate new lodging within two days. I requested a property on VRBO and felt relieved to have found something on such short notice. My wife and I go to dinner and on our return, VRBO sent a splash screen to our phone telling us the property was not available on the dates requested. Back to the drawing board!

We locate another less desirable property, but feel we have no choice. We again request a reservation. We go to bed thinking we have dodged a disaster.
On waking the next day, we have two messages from VRBO both of which say they are confirming lodging in our destination city on the same dates at two different properties. Our credit card has been charged for both properties! Imagine our confusion.

When we contact VRBO, they essentially tell us:
1) Yes, they know about the splash screen and can see how that might be confusing but we should not have hit enter more than once (do not remember doing this) as that is what caused the splash screen to appear and
2) Yes, this splash screen message even goes to the person requesting the reservation, and
3) Yes, VRBO will reserve two different properties on the same dates for the same person - there is NOTHING in place to prevent such an error and
4) No, even though the property was requested less than 24 hours ago, VRBO will not acknowledge a mistake and cancel. Take it up with the owner.
5) Thank you for using VRBO.

We contacted the property owner and his cancellation policy allows him to refund 50% of the total since we were cancelling less than 7 days prior to arrival (we made the request within 2 days of arrival and tried to cancel as soon as we were made aware of the error - not really harming this property owners listing as it was less than 10 hours off market). The property owner was not willing to take on the monetary loss of VRBO's inadequate software. The property owner did agree to return all of our money IF his property were to lease during those exact same dates or if VRBO would agree they were the cause of this problem.

In the end, VRBO did not agree they caused this problem. The owner did not lease his property for those exact dates (or at least he would not reply to our inquiry) and therefore, we are having to pay for VRBO's technical deficiencies. I suspect our money will go to the property owner and not toward fixing the problem. Beware of these circumstances and the end cost to you. Lesson learned and we were burned.

But most importantly, know that VRBO makes contacting them difficult, long periods of being on "hold", and long pauses between answering questions when you do finally get them on the phone. It's as if when you ask a question they put you on hold (without saying so) to ask someone for the answer and then they come back to the phone. We were constantly asking "are you there?", because there would be no response to the conversation.

If you have a dispute, VRBO will send canned text responses through their system platform, letting you know how much they care, but the reality is that they take no responsibility and leave disputes to be resolved between you and the property owner… "you can reach out to the property owner" is the best they can do.

In my case this was unsatisfactory. We will no longer use VRBO and we will tell all who are willing to listen our story.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] unethical behavior on rental cancellations

Rented a property in Bradenton, FL for Aug 26-Aug 31. Bought the recommended trip interruption insurance from their check-out page. Worst case of red tide in 20 years forced cancellation due to health issues. FL Dept. of Health warned anyone with respiratory issues to avoid red tide inflicted areas. I cancelled the trip thinking certainly I would receive a refund under these circumstances. Think again. Owner Maggie only cares about money, and the recommended insurance from VRBO denied my claim and was basically a scam. Read the reviews for CSA Travel Insurance. Of course, VRBO takes no responsibility for this insurance, even though they recommend you buy it in case something happens that you have to cancel. VRBO/Home Away and CSA Travel Insurance are a total rip-off. Stay very far away.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] unhealthy environment in our rental

This is my 4th rental w/VRBO. The first 3 were more than satisfactory. I wish I could say the same for #133515-5 Coffins Lane, W. Bath, Me.
The first night- there was no electricity in the downstairs bathroom. The owner was notified and an electrician was sent to repair it. Meanwhile, one of our party descended the poorly lit and narrow basement stairway (no hand rails) in search of the circuit breaker box. She encountered dirt and mess and a mouse carcass on her way to the box.
The master bedroom had a broken bed-dirt and clutter were behind the bed as was a fan clogged with dirt and gunk and the door handle on the sliding glass door was repaired with duct tape.
We found 3 clothes hangers in the entire house. Also one wash cloth, hand towel and bath towel (all old and some raggedy) per person. The linen closet had everything piled on the floor.
Upon our request, the owners did provide a card table (new) .
In the great room, there was one couch that seated 3 people. We found 2 folding beach chairs to provide seating for us.
In the kitchen, we found mouse droppings on the counter and in drawers. One drawer had a mouse nest made of shredded paper napkins. We also saw the mouse. We bought mouse traps and hangers and wash clothes and left them for the owners. We caught the mouse.
The carpet on the stairway was stained and dirty and smelly.
There were no towel bars in the upstairs bath and the water was so hot from the showerhead you were in danger of scalding.
The downstairs toilet was running almost constantly and using up the water in the pressure tank. We were gone for a few days and noticed it upon our return. Then, we would shut the valve at the wall so we would have enough water to use in the kitchen.
We did get a plumber for the downstairs toilet but, by then we had "had It" and left a week early to seek refuge in a motel in Portland.
One of the downstairs windows would not open. The electric
can opener left for us would not work.
Some attempts had been made to better the house-some new curtains and waste baskets had been added.
All told, it was an unsatisfactory rental. I would strongly urge others to seek other lodging.
Sincerely,
Barbara Jordan

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] no provision for refund on rental not as advertised

This is a criticism of VRBO and a particular landlord. The VRBO complaint is this: There is no provision for refund when the property turns out not to be as promised. You're just screwed, that's all. They require you to cancel 2 weeks in advance to get a full refund and one week for 50% refund. In my case, I found the property to be totally unsuitable and not what was promised, so the owner walked away with a week's worth of rent ($600) and I had to drive 75 miles further to obtain lodging, for which I was compensated $0.

Here's the story. My girlfriend and I rented a cabin in the mountains, outside of Las Vegas NM. Denmin Cabin, owner Lacey Loe, property number 1352896. The owner listed all the amenities including WIFI and kitchen. We were given an access code for the door. Before arriving we received an email that we shouldn't use the stove (!), so I suppose we were supposed to eat sandwiches all week, as the property is way out of town, 30-45 minutes down a narrow mountain road with a shear drop and no guard rails for much of the way.

When we arrived, no one was there, so we tried the access code on the door, about 20-30 times, with breaks in between. No way to get into the cabin. We tried contacting the owner via phone (no service) and email (no WIFI). Then the guys 30 yards away, across the road, came back from break and fired up their chain saws and heavy equipment for the log cabin they were building. Ever heard a chainsaw in a narrow mountain valley? Since the cabin was about half built, it was evident that the noise had been going on for a few weeks and would continue throughout our stay. We'd had no warning.

We rented the cabin in part because of the promised WIFI. My girlfriend was on a working vacation and absolutely needed reliable WIFI in order to finish work with deadlines this week. So, we left the cabin after half an hour or so and drove 40 minutes until we could get bars on the phone. The owner was initially cooperative on the phone and offered a 1-night refund since we were not going to be able to stay the first night. We lost the phone connection while driving in the mountains to find other accommodations.

Later, my girlfriend sent an email offering to pay for 2 nights (the minimum stay) and suggesting that, due to the unsuitability, we should receive a refund for the other 5 nights. The email we received back was frankly legalistic, accusatory and bullying. He said he was a paralegal and knew about contracts and I wasn't entitled to anything. Then he said he believed we had some hidden agenda and tried to make himself out as the victim. (Remember, he already had $600 of our money and we had to find and pay for other accommodations, gas, and lose our vacation time.) We responded to his email and he arbitrarily canceled our reservation (meaning, he stole our money and gave us nothing but grief in return).

Now, with the reservation canceled, it is possible that VRBO won't even let me write a review. There was no other reason for him to cancel, other than maybe now he could double dip by keeping our money and renting the cabin again this week to some other unsuspecting folks. I notice that he now has added an ALL CAPS sentence on the cabin listing about "MINIMAL HOME REBUILDING SOUNDS" (chainsaw noise is minimal?) to cover himself in future. Well, if I am allowed to write a review on VRBO, I will mention that, in addition to the room payment, Mr. Loe also kept the cleaning fee (we never set foot in the cabin, so how could it need cleaning?) and the taxes, which I'm sure he won't pay, since we didn't actually stay there. Then of course, there is the money that VRBO gets that we'll never see again. And, the promised refund for our first night? We didn't get that, either.

Needless to say, I'm deleting the VRBO app and will never do business with them again. It's always the case in this country that the businesses get protection and the consumer gets none, and VRBO is a prime example.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] owner canceled new orleans rental/vrbo no help

Months after receiving my $340 deposit, Property #1020260 was canceled by owner. Beware that your reservation can be canceled at any time! After spending 68 minutes on the phone with VRBO, I was disconnected a second time! VRBO explained that they could be of no help in searching for other properties in the area and their reasoning was because the reservation was over one month out.

Months after making my $340 deposit for New Orleans VRBO rental #1020260, my reservation was canceled. I was on the phone with VRBO for over an hour and disconnected twice. I was told by Jaylen, Paul and Susie at VRBO that they could not assist me with booking a replacement rental because my reservation was over 30 days out.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] 1113 Mariner Cay “Southern Dunes Golf” Haines City, FL

We booked this property from July 28th - August 11th. On Tuesday, in the evening we were watching tv and Someone walked up to the front door flashed a flashlight light into the home, I got up waited a bit and open the door. I didn't see anything. I decided to call the owners to ask if that was normal. I never heard back from them at all. August 1st in the early morning hours, someone came into that house while we were upstairs sleeping. After hearing a loud pop, and walking downstairs, I called the sheriffs dept. two officers came out to check the property. They found the back door open. (Which I had closed before going to bed) after not getting any sleep the rest of the night, we went about our day. I needed to go to the Walgreens very quickly (20 min.) I walked to the back doors and checked and pulled on them to make sure they were locked before I left. We come back and that back door is open! I totally freaked out. Called owners and no call back. My kids were scared and tired went upstairs, placed a chair against the doors to the master bedroom and had zero sleep. Still no response from the owners. The kids and I were scared to be there. I messaged the owners Again and told them I was leaving and that something was wrong with the house, someone had access to the home and they were there or something. They finally messaged me back and basically called me a liar! Offered me a different home with attitude! Not once asked if we were okay, apologized or anything. Instead they question my integrity and are annoyed! I'm the customer, you needed to make it right with me! Well, I left and had to find a hotel for the kids and I spent additional $ just because they have an insecure home. I think I should get a refund of my $ for all the stress you caused me and my kids! So very unprofessional and uncaring!

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] rental

My friends and I booked at 5 bedroom house with VRBO in December, 2017 for a wedding in August, 2018. Everything was paid in full and confirmed. 48 hours before we were due to arrive, VRBO contact us to let us know that there was a glitch in their system and the people currently renting the property had extended their stay so the house was no longer available. The offered us a 4 bedroom house from Saturday - Tuesday instead and not comping anything. We all arrive Friday morning for the wedding and now have nowhere to stay. All of the hotels are now exorbitantly expensive. I would stay away from VRBO at all costs - they do not honor reservations book 7 months in advance.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] vrbo customer service

Stay away far away!

This is an absolute despicable greedy company. The customer service is the worst and they are supposed to be representing the hospitality business - what a joke!

I have owned and rented my properties since 2008 and since expedia took over it gets worse everyday. They charge the owner and the guests - it's called double dipping. If you have a cancellation they keep their service fee and you get nothing.

I had listings on since 2008 and they suddenly deactivated my listings because they said it contains info for a guest to reach me - they are going to reactivate it at their convenience leaving me to wait and receive no bookings until they have time to do so - not to mention I paid for my listings. Bottom line - search for new ways to advertise your property and stay away from this company.

We have rented for years on VRBO, and this is the first year VRBO required that they receive all monies for rentals and deposits. After the renters stayed, VRBO allowed them to say they didn't go and refunded all their money and deposit. They did not help us fight the charge back, and acted as if we were a nuisance to even ask for their help. I am DONE with VRBO. We now will go with Shore Drive Properties and other avenues to advertise.

I agree that we should stay away from VRBO/HOME AWAY. It has deteriorated.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] vrbo sign-in

I used VRBO for many years to rent my property, and I haven't been on the website for a few years since we sold the property. I am very dismayed to see that you cannot do a search on a property and reply to an Owner without using "Google" or "Facebook" to sign in. No matter how much I've tried, VRBO will not accept my e-mail address to sign in. What gives? Has VRBO sold out to these entities? Very disappointing. Not sure I will continue using them.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] 117 n. olas drive, jensen beach, fl 34957 property id 916543

In response to my vrbo case 163501 concerning our rental from kathleen freihofer may 26-june 2, 2018 I wrote in an email (june 11): "I am filing a property complaint for a refund of our $150.00 security deposit.in the short term rental agreement under exhibit a rental rules #1 it states"smoking is not allowed inside the house or near screens or open entrances."my husband and I do not smoke and are very sensitive to the smell. Our adult daughter smokes and we made sure she understood the rule in the rental agreement. She smoked outside (never inside the house) and never near the one door (which was always closed) and away from the closed windows and screens. She always smoked in the one corner of the patio, where the smoke blew over the fence toward the neighboring backyard. That is why I told her to smoke in that location. She put her cigarette butts in two empty pop bottles for the week. When we left, my husband put them in a garbage bag outside in the city garbage bin. Cigarette butts were never brought inside the house. The owners email stated we did not receive our refund because smoke damage cleanup exceeded the cost of the security deposit. I asked the owner two times through emails to tell me what measures were involved in any smoke damage cleanup and where. She has never answered that question, only responding that no smoking was allowed." (which is not what the contract says!) I have now received a response from vrbo about my case: there will be no refund because the owner says there was smoking, and sent vrbo a photo of the pop bottles with cigarette butts inside, along with the exhibit a rental rule #1. Obviously they didn't even read the above email I sent them (at their request!) I am just angry at the injustice of this. We left the house immaculate and I even washed the towels to help out the housekeeper, as the notebook in the house asked if possible. If the owner is that obstinate, she should change her rule to "no smoking anywhere on the premises of the house, inside or outside." this is so unfair!

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] our money was stolen

We rented Villa #1029 at the OMNI Resorts in Cancun. The sliding glass door to the villa did not lock properly. Something was wrong with the locking mechanism. On our last day while we were at the beach someone came into the villa and stole our cash. They did not take our cards of anything else of value but took $370 in cash. We complained to owner of the villa Dr Judy Van Stralen and she denied that the door did not lock properly and that anyone would have stolen our money. For your own safety do not rent Villa #1029

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] hilton head island 205 the greens shipyard

On June 1 at 6PM I was told that my grandson who was shot by a pellet gun in the neck was unable to travel. Emotionally I cancelled my condo at the greens 205 Shipyard, Hilton Head Island Then 10 minutues later, we decided to take the condo, as I had already paid over $1600 for the week.

The owner, Jim Bateman, cancelled and would not reconsider. His only comment was that if he could fill the condo for 06/30-07/07 he would consider giving me 1/2 of my price back. I just wanted the condo as I had already paid for it.

At this point, I was only given the option of returning my $300 refund and $100 cleaning fee.

We wanted the condo!

Please be very careful when dealing with Jim Bateman Seems he wants double the condo rent for the 4th of July week. Very Very upset.

Have been coming to Shipyard for 12 years and this is a deplorable situation.

Shame on VRBO for this landlord..This is not a good PR for VRBO and I will tell my family and friends to go elsewhere from now on

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] veronica & karim vrbo property id #1038976

We checked in at approximately 5.30 pm on Friday May 18 upon our arrival the property maintenance outside was not kept. Once we walked into the property there was a very strong sewer odor coming from beneath the house. One of the landings in the dock were broken with visible rusty nails to get on to the dock you had to go thru the other entrance behind the garage. Upon check out all dishes were washed and put back all bed linens were put on top of the washer and towels were put in the Master Bath tub as requested. Veronica even asked if we could start a load of Laundry (this property charges $135.00 cleaning charge) Kitchen was cleaned before leaving only leaving a small stain in the freezer drawer where a bottle of beer leaked. The grill was used only one night to grill ribs. According to the property owner she says that there were heavy grease splashes all over the wall no grease was used only the actual grilling of the ribs. Per her cleaning crew there was a black stain on her couch, towels and bathroom floor rugs were stained. Only a hand towel was stained due to the poor quality of the water that would come out orange from the pipes. This property is priced pretty low at $168.00 a night with a cleaning fee of $135.00 plus the booking fee. Refundable deposit which I believe which is not refundable in their case is $500.00. I am under the impression that they use all these fake claims to keep that deposit. This is my second time using VRBO/HomeAway. This was not a very good experience I think I will stick to traditionally using Hotels to not have to go thru this Dishonest exchange of services. I would like to see my refundable deposit be refunded to me. Myself and all other guests that stayed will be giving Beware notice Reviews to all future victims that stay in this property.

PS If I were VRBO I would not allow this property owner to rent home due to the Huge Liability exposure it has on the property with that broken dock. Also front and back of home property is extremely unkept.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] problem of payment

Hi,
I'm very disappointed. I've called 4 times VBRO about a problem of payment the property I've reserved. I've also called my credit card MC.
It seems the problem is the adress doesn't match with the adress of the card.
However, I verified several times and I'm sure I wrote the good adress.
I think that the web site has a problem.
I won't reserve anymore from VBRO! It took me 2 hours and nothing is solved!

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] first and last time using vrbo

First time booking with VRBO, as I usually use Airbnb. Let me tell you, I will be sticking with Airbnb.

After submitting my request to book a property through HomeAway, the owner approved it at a higher price than initially stated on the ad. For this reason, I immediately messaged the home owner requesting to cancel the booking as they had stated a 100% refund policy on cancellations made prior to March 31. The homeowner did not respond, so I followed up again. He said he wouldn't accept my cancellation. I followed up with HomeAway customer service on two separate occasions, and they said they would contact the property owner on my behalf. I never heard back so I called them again. They asked that I submit a complaint to VRBO, so I did so.

After going back and forth 4 times, they have still refused to honor the originally stated cancellation policy, and the owner has since CHANGED this policy since my time of booking so there is no proof this was the policy stated at my time of booking. VRBO asked if I had screenshots of the policy - I'm sorry but what sort of trusting customer thinks they need to document and take screenshots of every detail of their booking. We even dug up an email from the owner stating a THIRD different cancellation policy from the one we first saw and the one VRBO said was the property owners' policy. The indiscrepancies are ridiculous. I have still not heard back from the property owner, and will never be booking with VRBO again. Absolutely horrible experience. Stick with Airbnb!

Please someone tell me why vrbo has the right to read my messages and delete both the phone number and the email address from the person-to-person conversations that I have with my potential guests. I will contact vrbo shortly but will be pursuing legal avenues as well, short of terminating my contract with vrbo.

VRBO has no customer support. Owners have been great to work with but corporate refuses to assist customers when a natural occurrence cancels a rental. Yet their site continues to accept bookings on properties affected. I spent an hour on the phone shuffled from one representative to another only to be told the customer support was closed. Seriously? No 24/7 assistance from a 'global' company. Never book with them or Home Away or their affiliates.

On April 1st my granddaughters and I rented a cabin in Gatlinburg TN.
We checked out on April 4th and left the cabin Dream Come True, even cleaner than we found it.
This has become not a dream get away but a nightmare as we received an email stating deposit not being returned. They lied.. stated the cabin was filthy and the bedclothes were destroyed.. None of this is true.
I have used VRBO and was even thanked by the owner for taking care of the home.
I want my 100. and honesty.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] no return of security deposit upon death in the family!

My husbands siblings, their spouses and our kids live all across Canada and had rented a large home to meet and vacation together in Arizona. A few days before leaving on our trip, his father had a sudden massive heart attack and died. He was either the father-in-law, father or Grandpa of everyone on the trip. We immediately cancelled everything and flew to his family. We had already paid via wire transfer a 600USD dollar damage deposit (which worked out to over 800 dollars Canadian). It was supposed to be mailed back after the trip when the house was found undamaged but never appeared. That was almost a year ago. I finally contacted VRBO and told them since we never made it, we obviously never damaged the property and I wanted my deposit back. They said they would contact the owner and get back to me in 1-2 business days. That was a month ago and they have just chosen not to respond to my last two e-mails.

Vacation Rentals By Owner [VRBO] rental of property #1043335

I am writing a formal complaint about property # 1043335. We have been in contact with the management team and they have ignored our emails. The unit was filthy upon arrival, it was filled with bugs, cockroaches and rodents. Infested! We alerted them to the issues while onsite and they left chocolates and a starbucks card on our door. We spent 5800 dollars to rent this "presidential suite". We have always stayed with VRBO and always been satisfied. We want them to refund our money. We would never provide a place like this to anyone nor refuse to reply or reimburse for conditions that were beyond abysmal. My son, who is five years old, was bitten while sleeping and still has nightmares that he is getting bitten by bugs. This is Unacceptable. Please help
