The Pep Boys - over pricing for parts and labor

I went to service my car at the Hazlet, Nj Pep Boys store # 55 and was excessively overcharged for services rendered. I am very skeptical that all the services that were supposed to be done were actually performed. I went in for an engine light and I know what the exact problem was, Camshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. I called the parts dept on Friday 1/30 day before service date to ensure they had the part which they ordered for me for Sat 2/1/2020 service. The Service manager Kenneth did not really care that I knew what the problem was, he indicated he has to do his own diagnostic. A 23.00 part that needed replacement turned into a 953.58 charge. The Sensor was only 23.00 as per pep boys parts dept. They called me back after they completed the diagnostic (Robert) and started telling me that the Camshaft position sensor had to be replace like I noted initially but that I also had to do a Tune up, some pro fuel cleaning and change the valve gasket cover and indicated that these well necessary if I was changing the sensor. He did not go thru any details in terms of what each thing would cost just told me it would cost around 900+Tax. I took their word that all this was necessary and that they would not be trying to overcharge me because I am a woman, I've been to this service dept several times for regular oil changes, I thought they were honest. So I authorized the services thinking they would do the right thing. When they called me back in an hour, telling me that 4 hours' worth of work was fully completed, it make me suspicious about what was actually done. I question the person that call me Joe and also questions, Joe, Kenneth, Robert and John the technician when I came in to pick up my car. I did not understand how this BIG job as they said was all done in 1 hour yet they charged me 498.99 for labor and when I looked at my Invoice in detail I realized that I was also overcharged for parts. I called the parts dept and got the actual price of all the parts and the service dept charged me 183.73 more than they should have charged me. They charged me for some labor Warranty that I did not authorize or request was never asked either. They charged me for some Shop Fee that I have no idea what that is for and charge me for close to 500.00 labor for a job that was fully completed within less than an hour and half. So technically after doing all the math, PEP boys overcharged me by close to $ 575.77 and when I called the service manager he had some policy system excuse that this is how they price jobs and that parts are charged different in service dept then when you buy them directly from the parts dept. That they were warranty and that warranty that I did not ask for or was it even an option to the customer cost more than 700% of the actual cost of the part. I want this to go on record and will be pursuing action against PEP Boys for not effectively communicating to their customers how they come up with service prices allowing the customer to pull back. They told me I needed a tune up and all they did was change the spark plugs when a full tune involves more than just the spark plugs and also it does not take an hour to change these plugs, it also does not take a hour to change a sensor and then another hour to change a gasket cover. If the mechanic did all this work in 1 hour, why would peps think that they can justify charging a customer 499.00 dollars in labor?/ I don't care if he is an experience mechanic or not, how can Pep boys justify charging a customer close to 500.00 for 1 hour of actual work? How can you charge a customer 140.58 for a sensor that pep boys sells for 23.00? How can you charge 53.98 for a gasket cover that pep boys charges 23.99 for? How can you charge 19.99 for each Spark Plug that pep boys sells for 10.12? How can you charge the customer for a labor Warranty that they did not authorize or was told about? This service department was a bunch a crooks that took advantage of me and my trust and I want my money for all the overcharges returned and I will do whatever it takes to expose this Pep Boys because this should not be allowed to happen to anyone.
