General Motors - Lack of Customer Care Regarding Recall Comliance

My intention for writing this letter is to raise public awareness of General Motors Corporation business practices. I currently have a very unfortunate circumstance regarding the response to safety issues regarding my 2014 GMC Terrain. A circumstance which could have cost me my life.

On April 7, 2022 as I was driving on a local highway in what I categorize as a torrential downpour (which occurred suddenly), my windshield wipers ceased to function. I could hear cars around me on all sides, but the rain was so heavy, I could not see anything or anyone. I’m a senior citizen, so needless to say – I panicked. I pulled off the road carefully, not being sure if I was pulling into a safe, appropriate area, but I had to take the chance to avoid being struck by another vehicle driving behind me. Route 23 in the Pompton Plains, NJ area is heavily traveled.

While I sat in my car unsure of what to do, I realized that I could see through a small outer margin of my windshield. I was about eight miles from my mechanic and my home. I took the chance by driving in the slow lane until I reached my destination. I cannot stress how frightening an experience that truly was for me, but perhaps it was better than waiting on the side of the road for a tow truck while anything was possible that could further endanger me.

After arriving at my auto repair shop and having my truck evaluated, the cause of the windshield wiper failure was determined. I was informed it would take a day to obtain the parts. I left my vehicle at the repair shop and it was returned to me the following day – fully repaired.

A few days subsequent to that life-threatening experience, I received a recall notice by mail for the very issue that my vehicle succumbed to. It was indicated that the ball joints in the windshield wiper modules experience high corrosion and wear that could result in the separation of one or more ball joints from the sockets during wiper operation. The correspondence further indicated that the problem could not be remedied because the parts were unavailable. I felt grateful that my mechanic was able to secure the parts and fix my vehicle or I would have been home-bound.

I contacted GMC immediately and informed them of what occurred. Having survived Stage III Cancer 6 years ago, it would have been quite a pity for me to have died because of a serious highway accident where the roads were slippery and visibility was so compromised because of non-functioning windshield wipers. I was informed that I would be assigned an “Advisor” who would look into the matter. After receiving a few calls from the "Advisor", I was told that my reimbursement had been approved and that I would receive a check within a 6-week time frame – but probably sooner rather than later.

The "Advisor" proceeded to call me almost daily to “check in”. When the 6-week time frame was approaching and I had not received a check, the "Advisor" said it was just going to be a matter of days. Still, the check did not arrive.

Today - June 14, 2022, I contacted the corporate office and was informed that reimbursement checks had not been approved for anyone and would not be approved until the case was closed – meaning that the parts were available and would be replaced for owners of the 2014 Terrain. After learning this, I contacted the "Advisor" twice in the same day and he did not return my calls.

Initially, upon contacting them, I had informed GMC that I would publicize this matter if they did not hold to their commitment to keep people safe and to reimburse those that spent money out of their pockets to fix the dangerous problem – which if not repaired – would render the vehicle inoperable. They have done neither. I thought it was interesting that my mechanic was able to secure parts to fix my GMC vehicle but GMC doesn’t have access to these parts. And it’s further interesting that their representatives would blatantly lie to customers seeking reimbursement for a problem that should have never occurred.

Desired outcome: I want to be reimbursed $346.53 immediately - since I have already waited over 6 weeks.

General Motors - strike

I don't work for GM or support unions but GM is showing your true colors. GM is greedy and doesn't give a tinkers damn about their employees. Government bailout and an $8 billion profit and to top it off you take away health insurance for your associates. Whatever happened to fair negotiations I'll never buy a GM product again. Greedy SOBs. GREEDY GREEDY GREEDY UNAMERICAN UNFAIR HATEFUL WORTHLESS.

General Motors - warranty repairs that extend into warranty expired

So i have a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado I, purchased new. After about 45, 000 miles i get engine popping noise and ruff idle. Besides all the bs up front the final result is a tsb-ed to death truck 952 miles after a warranty replacement of the pistons and rings for oil consumption, the engine expires at the crankshaft. Gm customer service card reader, Janice, states " there is no warranty so to bad we can not do anything about it breaking down." I frustratedly get her to understand a little but to no avail is there any help in calling gm or chatting with customer service Janice or Stacy . When i asked to get UP TO the next level, I was informed this is as far as it can go. So Janice must be the CEO and Stacy evidently is the lead ?engineer.
So don't buy a Chevrolet because if they can't find the problem before the warranty expires-- to bad as per Janice and Stacy in customer service phone and chat. The first response says it all.

"its not a lifetime warranty it does expire." and so did my engine.
In 952 miles. So my oil usage and vibration was never repaired and its ok for the engine to launch the connecting rod right after the tsb repair had them ALL removed to change the pistons.
Thanks for nothing Chevrolet.

General Motors - Rip off!

I have a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Limited Edition Pace car, which I bought brand new. I have had many problems with it, including lower intake manifold gasket. Gasket has been replaced 2 times and I only have 69, 000 miles on the car. I have had so many problems with this car that it would take me a long time to list. The service repairs by GM goodwrench have been nothing more than the worst I have ever seen. I was recently at a dealership with my car and I stood in the repair shop and watched a ' certified ASE goodwrench mechanic ' get in one truck and back into another truck. Noone else was around to see this but me because it was lunch time and he was the only mechanic around. My car has been babied from the day I bought it and I know every sound it makes. I got my car back from a recent repair at a GM dealership and they replaced the windshield and front wheel hub bearing and not only did the windshield leak but the car had noises coming from the searing wheel column and the rear of the car. It took two times of bringing the car back to get windshield fixed. I was told that the noises were normal for these cars. BS. thats all I get from GM. Now here is what I really want everyone to know. I would never have bought the car if I knew this car was made in Canada. I just found out 3 days ago. The only reason I found out is because I looked on Ebay and found the same model for sale and I did a history report on that car and it was made in Canada. I went out and looked on the inside of my car door and sure enough it was made in Canda. Watch GM's advertisement's and you will never see them say there cars and trucks are made else where. The last thing I have to tell anybody that is interested in GM products is this. Shortly after I bought my car I received a letter from the GM Marketing director. This letter thanked me for my purchase. It also told me that Certificate of Authenticity (included with the letter) Made my Vehicle worth more than the regular LS or SS models. What a joke. I can't even get a value for my model. I sure paid a lot more for it. I have the original letter and certificate but they are not worth the paper they are written on. Sorry loyal GM customers but there is a reason that GM has had a loss for the past 3 years. Not to mention 2007 being the biggest loss of the history of GM. It is a tricker down effect. It takes a few years to catch up but it does, and it did. If you are looking to buy a true made American car from GM, You need to look on the inside of the drivers door first because they won't tell you.
