I have purchased a coffee table (Rosa del Deserto) from Ultra Modern in Oct 1 2008, order ID 31335 and my customer ID is 66764. At the time of purchase I paid $2008.00 with my credit card. The promised delivery date was 3 months from date of purchase. I was hoping to have my new coffee table by Jan 1st. After a long wait and number of calls to the customer service I finally received my coffee table on feb 15th. After opening the crate I realized the two piece base was actually arrived as three piece (basically one piece was broken to two.) I was determined to return the coffee table right away, so I did not even inspect the other piece. At this point I was very frustrated due to a very long wait and getting a broken item for a very high price. I called Ultra modern and ask them about the process of return. The customer service person on the phone was determined to convince me not to return the table. He was super kind and told me it seems like there is another return due to someone else having a similar problem, a brake of the base and they have half the base available in their where house which he can have it shipped to me immediately. Although I called in to return the table some how this nice person sweet talked me in to not returning the table and waiting on the other piece to be delivered to me. He promised the piece will be in my hand in a week. The other piece arrived on March 13th exactly 28 days after my initial attempt to make the return and about 3 weeks later than what was promised to me. I made numerous phone calls after week one wondering where my piece was. Finally happy that I have all the pieces I went back to assemble the table, only to find out the other piece in the crate has many fractures as well. I called the customer service immediately explaining how I never moved the original crate and never inspected the other piece since I had no intention to return it and some how got suckered into keeping all of it. Now that I realized there are fractures in the original second piece I want a return label and refund or even a replacement. I would be happy with it being taken care of. They are UNWILLING to do anything to rectify their shipping malfunction or bad packing. The customer service person I spoke to (WIll) wanted me to email them pictures which I did, and told me this is understandable since the first piece was broken to two halves, some body must have dropped the package on delivery and he will issue a return label as soon as he talks to manager. After waiting for 3 days and not hearing back (which seems to be a trend with this company I called again) only to hear since the package has been delivered in feb 15th and now it is March 25th, it has passed their return deadline and they can not take the table back or even replace the piece. So basically I have paid $2008 for a broken table. I am writing this letter of complaint for many reasons, 1-the original delivery date was one and half month delayed 2 I received a broken piece and when I tried to return it I was convinced not to 3- I was promised a prompt delivery of a replacement piece in a week which ended up being 28 days 4- after ll these I find out the integrity of the other piece is compromised due to fracture lines 5- I have been told I can not make a return since it has passed the 30 days return date, but I would have figured out the damage if only the replacement piece would have been delivered in a timely matter as it was promised. I am very upset about the wasted time and money, and the way my rights as a customer has been ignored by this company. I want to know what am I paying $2008.00 for, a table that is not stable or useful? Something needs to be done about this very dishonest company.
