Travelzoo worst service ever

What is a trip insurance to me? It's a guarantee that during the entire trip I will be fine and healthy. Moreover, for everyone who is going abroad its necessary to have it.
It's not an advertisement, i'm just trying to explain why it's so important to me. However, the travelzoo refused to provide me that after I bought a trip to london. Actually, the travel agencies have to provide services like that, but this one is special, I think.
So after a terrible runaround, I got a zero result.
And I decided to cancel the booked trip and look for it at different websites. But nothing was so easy. They said they won't refund in full, that I had to pay the additional feels that weren't mentioned anywhere.
What a scam! I'm not going to pay anything and will report them.

Travelzoo sinorama gold 8 tour/cruise

After booking with Sinorama from a Travelzoo "top twenty deals", I requested a disability accommodation on the air portion of the trip due to a medical issue. Despite promising to get back to me with the airline information, Sinorama did not. When I emailed them again, they then said they would refund the portion of the trip cost associated with the airfare. Despite requesting that via emails, Sinorama has not returned that to me and now do not respond at all.

This will be elevated to initiation of a lawsuit shortly.

My Sinorama China 15 days trip to Yangze river . Since I didn't receive my pre-departure package as promised, my phone calls got busy signal, and no one replied to my emails . 8/31/2018, I finally got an email from CustomerProtection BC, Canada, stating that Sinorama Travel is suspended and business is closed, suggesting to request a refund from credit card company/travel insurance, if you still want to go on your trip, you need to confirm, but with whom? the Travel agency is out of business and not responding!
It's terrible! but at least we know what's happening, and I'm processing my refund request.

From the travelzoo newsdesk
Fly to la from chicago for $99 nonstop (roundtrip)
By annie england
Roundtrip fares from chicago to los angeles are now just $99 for nonstop flights on american airlines. Normally, prices for this route are well over $150.

Departures are available from nov. 4 - feb. 11, with the most availability mid-january through early february. Holiday fares are higher.

These fares are not part of an official sale and will likely disappear quickly.

Travelzoo currently on holiday

BNE320386

I would like to log a complaint with you.

Hotel we're currently staying at: Radisson Blue Milatos, Crete.

Currently on day 4 of our holiday at this hotel. The marketing of this hotel is completely misleading and it's definitely NOT a 5 star luxury hotel! Hotel is still being built - lots of work going on in parts. No table waiter service, no room service, old tatty furniture in parts of the hotel. Several swimming pools drained and closed. (3 pools actually available for use). One beautiful looking pool with hammocks and beds is only for the use of guests staying in certain rooms. Room is of 3 or 4 star standard - old bathroom and furniture. Several bars & restaurants not even built yet, let alone open. You can eat in the Cretan & Italian (which are also buffets - not al a cart) once per week so you're then left with the very repetitive main buffet every day and night. No adult only bar & pool as advertised! Not enough staff to provide a 5 star level of service. Food and drinks okay - pleasant enough but nothing special. 'Ultra' all inclusive just means all inclusive. I'm sure this hotel will achieve 4 or 5star one day once work has complete. In its current state it's letting Radisson Blue down.

Further to writing this review a few days ago, we have since had no running water in our room for a period of 2 hours and the following day a loss of electricity supply for 1 hour. Staff made no attempt to ensure we were okay during this time. This mornings breakfast was a total nightmare... staff had packed away all tables 1 hour before breakfast closes. We waited 20 minutes for our coffee and had to ask again. We had to find our own cutlery from other tables. And the hot food on the buffet was stone cold.

There are flies all over the buffet food and at no point have we seen staff monitoring the food temperatures. We have also witnessed no monitoring of the swimming pools water. There are no fire alarms in our guest room either.

We have two days left of our holiday and are feeling completely ripped off. We did mention our concerns to the hotels guest relations team and it seems they are now avoiding us and not interested.

I hope you can help?

Regards
Danielle Croset (tricker)

Travelzoo the marton arms hotel, thornton in lonsdale

We booked a voucher on travel zoo for a two night stay at the Marton arms, Thornton in Lonsdale. We booked this for 13th - 14th April after ringing the accommodation and we're looking forward to our break away in the Yorkshire Dales for my partners 40th birthday. On arrival the female running the hotel took us to our room where the bathroom was very damp smelling. The hand-wash dispenser was broken and on getting a shower the water started off very lukewarm and soon ran cold. I rang down to speak to the lady who had shown us to our room and told her there was no hot water. She responded very vague stating someone else had mentioned that their heralding wasn't working. She offered no solutions to the problem when asked what we were to do and said she didn't know why as she had checked the boiler and the pilot light was on! My partner had to have a freezing cold shower and we then went down for the evening meal included. We were served drinks in dirty glasses to start with. We enquired re what the desserts were but the lady didn't know, said she'didn't find out and never came back to us. She then went to take someone elses order. We asked again and she found out and took out order. My partner got a starter of garlic mushrooms which came slopped onto a plate looking like it was for a dog. The started plate was never cleared away until our main meals came. These were burgers as we daren't order anything else due to the standard of the place and food. The burgers and chips were edible but not great and we had to keep getting up and down to request sauces etc. We carried on drinking in the pub as the pub was in a remote location and there were no other places to go. My partner drank a real ale and i drank lager. Again the glasses were dirty and the staff were not attentive or welcoming at all. Whilst downstairs we once again asked about the hot water and were give no solutions - the lady started talking to one of the other customers (a male who ran the campsite next door) asking if he had any ideas about the boiler and there being no hot water. This was trivialised and laughed about but still we had no solution other than 'see how the water is in the morning'! We then had to ask where we came for breakfast and what time it was as once again, we had not been told.
We went to bed and my partner was ill with diarrhoea and sickness in the night after going to bed with a stomach ache which we believe was down the the ale as that is the only thing we had had different. This lasted for a few hours during the night and was only a little better by the morning.
In the morning the water was hot again. We went down for breakfast (in with the price) which was edible however the tea was undrinkable as it was full of limescale and smelled and tastes strongly of this. I asked for another pot of tea which they brought but it was just the same so we left and drove to a cafe to have to buy a cup of tea.
We stayed out of the hotel as long as possible, ate out and refused to drink there on the night so had to walk to the nearest village. The breakfast the following morning was the same with limescale ridden tea and we packed and left. On handing in the keys the lady said 'ok, bye then' . We were never asked if our stay had been nice and the lady and male behind the bar seemed clueless, uninterested and not the faintest bit bothered re the service or cleanliness of the place. We were so disappointed with the whole thing, it totally ruined our trip. I have been to the pub a number of years ago and it was lovely so I wanted to take my partner back for a special break. I realise I got this as a good deal on travel zoo butility it still cost over £100 and then money spent whilst there and on travel. I don't expect the standard to be any lower or the service whether it is a deal or not and we were thoroughly disappointed.
I would be grateful if you would offer some feedback on this.

Travelzoo false deals

I booked a room of Stratosphere Casino & Hotel thru Travelzoo (12/18-12/20). I thought I paid all fees to Travelzoo and don't need to pay any to the hotel, but Stratosphere charged me much higher additional resort fee and made the deal not a deal anymore. Travelzoo doesn't do what Expedite does: list and collect all fees, for them and hotel. Expedite lets customer easily compare the price and service, while Travelzoo hides 70% additional fee from website.

Travelzoo poor refund policy

This is a warning. They have a refund policy that blatantly states on the voucher that there are no refunds after 7 days however if there are date specific events, there are no refunds whatsoever and it overrides the no refund after 7 days policy. I purchased a voucher to Knotts berry farm 3 weeks ago and there was a tight deadline to use the voucher by Dec 31st. I called them and requested for a refund but they denied my request because of their policy. I said I couldn't make it to the place and requested to have them issue the $39 as a credit to my account so I may apply it towards the purchase of another voucher but they also refused. The manager I spoke to also said that because this being a date specific event means I wouldn't have been able to get a refund regardless of the refund policy within 7 days of purchase. I am now being forced to use this voucher by tomorrow. Its difficult to want to do business with Travelzoo again. You are better off just paying regular price for these things and going whenever you want. Be careful. You've been warned.

Travelzoo travel agency scam

I contacted the company Travelzoo And Cruiseabout, which offered a trip to Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua. The price was really attractive, and it wasn’t expensive. I paid them for the cruise in advance, but when I contacted this company 2 weeks before the cruise, they told me that I couldn’t go, because I haven’t paid the full sum. I wonder if there are other people, who had the same experience. Can you provide any good piece of advice?

Travelzoo don't ever buy from travelzoo or you'll regret it

They don't tell you that they don't offer refunds on vouchers after 7-days even if its a gift! They are stealing from their customers and smiling about it to the bank. Don't ever buy from Travelzoo or you'll regret it.

I completely agree with this comment Kusseb - I have just had a similar experience and am absolutely disgusted by Travelzoo's approach. Despite not having redeemed the voucher and having spoken to the retailer - who confirmed that they would not be paid - Travelzoo refused to refund monies or provide a credit. In my book if you pay for a service and do not receive it then either fraudulent activity, or theft, has taken place. I have already heard similar stories from other friends who no longer use Travelzoo for this very reason and I intend to look for more Blogs in order to publicise Travelzoo's appalling and downright unprofessional conduct.

Travelzoo false advertising

TravelZoo advertised a special deal with Icelandair. For 72 hours a 3 night trip to Iceland that included a Glacier Walk, Northern Lights search and hotel accommodations either at Hotel Reykjavik Natura or Hotel Reykjavik Hilton was priced at $697 per person. The deal would end Jan 8 at 11.59pm EST. When I clicked on the link TravelZoo provided, it took me to Icelandair website. It was already laid out. All I had to do to select the deal was select my location, the package auto populated for Northern Lights and Glacier package. Then I just had to select the date. I selected one of the dates as listed by TravelZoo, March 8th. Then I selected 2 travelers.

However, when I clicked continue, the price that would show up was $807 per person. I closed out and went back in the same way. This time the price came back at $875 per person. I closed out and went back in again. The price was $807 again. My wife and I then thought perhaps you had to continue all the way through and the discount would be applied at the end. So we completed our information including our credit card but the final bill came to $1, 614 i.e. $807 each rather than the $697 advertised. Since I was suppose to have booked for another couple that was going to trave with us, I went back into the site immediately after booking my trip. Well, the price came back at $875.

This is false advertising. At no point does TravelZoo's ad points out the the price when you go to book would fluctuate so much. When I called TravelZoo after 40 minutes of helping the TravelZoo consultant try to locate the information of the deal on their own website, she finally came back with you will have to call Icelandair.

I called Icelandair two times. Each time the Icelandair consultant didn't know about the deal. They both time also thought the difference could be the taxes but I pointed out TravelZoo specifically stated taxes were included. They both couldn't understand how it could have been advertised at a lock price for 72 hours. They each time indicated that it would be unusual for Icelandair to lock in a $697 price for that long of a period.

I feel this is very deceptive advertising. Below is the email sent to subscribers. Buyers beware.

SEATTLE--JANUARY 06, 2012-- For the next 72 hours, Iceland
4-star getaways from Seattle, including a guided glacier
walk tour and Northern Lights hunt, are reduced to $697 per
person, including taxes -- a savings of $300 on packaging
components of the deal individually.

This winter is a prime time to visit Iceland, as NASA
scientists believe that the Northern Lights will shine its
brightest in more than 50 years in 2012.

The offer includes:
- Roundtrip nonstop flights to Reykjavik from Seattle
- Three nights at Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura
- Guided glacier walk then a traditional lobster soup dinner
- Nighttime hunt to glimpse the famed Northern Lights
- Additional nights for $41 per person

This package is available on the following Thursday and
Friday departures -- ideal for a long-weekend getaway: Feb.
9, 23; March 1, 8, 22. Weekday departures are also
available.

"Think I have been ripped off !"

I got a voucher from Travelzoo for the fayrer hotel in the Lakes and when I tried to book the weekend dates I was told by the hotel that they had no availability otehr than the graveyard dates during the week.

Spoke to Travelzoo and they said "sell it on ebay!" Brian from Travelzoo did not want to know.

Simple facts is that I have a voucher that has cost Travelzoo pennies to issue and the hotel nothing but cost my partner £150.

Think we have been well and truely ripped off ! be aware of this type of voucher and keep well away from Travelzoo.

Horrible company. I bought a restaurant voucher but the restaurant wouldn't honor it. I contacted Travelzoo for a refund but they refused! I am disputing the charges with my credit card company and if not successful I am taking them to small claims court. I will never deal with these crooks again.

Travelzoo unredeemable vouchers

A little while back I purchased 2 vouchers from travel zoo for a manicure and pedicure from dorjon salon & spa in boca raton. As required, I contacted the establishment in order to schedule an appointment. I spoke with "jeannie" who indicated that there are no more appointments available to use my voucher. She stated that "I should've used it by now." I told her that the voucher expiration date is not until october 18, 2011. "jeannie" then advised that she "didn't know what to tell me, but they don't have any appointments available to honor my travel zoo voucher."

I then contacted travel zoo at [protected] and spoke to "anselme." after explaining the issue to him, and advising him that I wanted my money refunded, he told me that I would have to speak to a supervisor. I then asked him to transfer me to a supervisor; he then advised that not a single manager or supervisor was available to speak with me. He indicated that the best he could do was to "put a note in my file and the issue would be investigated." he then proceeded to tell me that at the conclusion of the investigation, "someone would contact me with the outcome." I asked him how someone would contact me if he ("anselme") did not even inquire about the best number to reach me at. "anselme" then told me that he did not say that; that if no one contacted me within 48 hours regarding the issue, at that point I am then to call back. I asked him, "well, am I supposed to call back, or will someone contact me because you are providing two conflicting answers?" at the conclusion of the conversation I still had no answers.

I am very disappointed in the voucher redeeming process. And the customer service via travel zoo was very poor. I have already paid my money for a service that the establishment refuses to honor, and travel zoo is negligent in handling. This is my first experience with travel zoo, and thought this was a legitimate and reputable company.

I live in San Diego bought a certificate that was 99.00 for a Spa at the Hyatt Hotel, 99.o0 great price for 50.00 minute massage AND sugar scrub. After reading the FINE PRINT when I printed it a week later it said a 42.00 service fee is added- and the value was 210.00. I tried to get a refund after going to the Spa's Website and seeing their ACTUAL prices- I would have paid less to have done it on my own, they REFUSED to give me a refund because I called in 8 days-I would have had to call in 7 days! The scrub was done during the 50.00 min massage had they first done the scrub for 1/2 hour - then massage for 50.00 minutes it may have been closer to the ACTUAL price but the total time it took was 50 minutes. I have HUNDREDS of spas to choose from that I could have paid FAR less-(80.00 for massage 16.00 for a tip would be the going rate for most spas). RIP OFF-BAD COMPANY TRAVEL ZOO.

I bought recently a voucher for 2 nights at the Sundy House beach hotel located in Delray Beach Florida. We went for a couple retreat, we were supposed to check in on Sunday 27th and check out on Tuesday 29th. We ended out getting back the same night and we did not even sleep there. I have to say that so far this was one of the worse experiences of my life. The hotel was horrendous, dirty, I think that the maintenance was not done for years. We changed room 3 times trying to find a decent room but it was impossible. The pool, if you can call that a pool was green and dirty. I think that this hotel was not even a star, I have never seen nothing worse in my life. I have to say the food was good. The only thing good there. There were even ants in the suite room. The reason I am so upset is because we took that vacation in advance to rest after long hours of work and we ended out getting back the same day. Please someone reply back, we did not stay there and I will like to receive a return for this voucher.

Travelzoo service not rendered

Please be advised that you take your purchase at your own risk with travelzoo as they do not back their vendor’s offers. I utilize groupons, living social, bloomspot and similar offers. The only organization that I have ever had trouble with is travelzoo. I bought a voucher in march of this year for uncorked tours of temecula, have not been able to get a hold of them. Nearly impossible for us to reach anyone to confirm details for reservation. The majority of our calls went to voicemail. * highly disorganized reservation system. I could write an essay about this, but I will just sum it up by saying we spent way too many hours just trying to just get ahold of someone on the phone. I understand they may be overwhelmed by the amount of business, but 6 months later they are still unreachable. This made it really stressful to book/plan/etc. By the time I did get ahold of somebody, they were frazzled and told me incorrect information and never contacted me back. When a vendor refuses to honor an offer within the alloted time, the coupon should be refunded in full. Travelzoo refuses to do so, and their call center agents merely recite a script that they will not refund within a 7-day window of purchase (even if a vendor refuses to honor a voucher.) I had a similar experience with groupon and they refunded immediately. Be aware of travelzoo purchases. I believe the merchant’s conduct doesn't live up to what was offered, please beware before purchasing any travelzoo local deal vouchers. They come with a litany of fine print that unscrupulous merchants often use to get out of honoring the voucher - and travelzoo will do absolutely nothing if you contact them regarding a voucher that was not honored despite your abiding by the rules.
This is the e-mail response I got from travelzoo: we would like to thank you for your patience in this matter. Unfortunately, travelzoo local deals will not be able to able to accommodate a refund. Management has reviewed your issue and your reauest fall out of our 7 day refund policy. We have contacted uncorked tours on your behalf and they will contact you directly to assist you in making a reservation. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hope this helps and please feel free to contact us for further assistance.

Have a great day,
Mariana

Can't agree more on this. I had the same problem with Travel Zoo.au too, restaurant not honored my voucher and Travel Zoo simply just refuse to refund my money or ever provide a credit for future use. Horrible dealer, worse businessman ever seen.

We also had a similar experience with Travel Zoo. We bought 2 horse back riding promotions for a Christmas gift and the company never had an opening to use them! And then they had nerve to complain how little money they made on travel Zoo's promotion. Travel Zoo told us to go back and that they would extend the expiration date but there were still no reservations available. Then when we went back to them they said the expiration date was past them being able to give us a refund! Ridiculous! I am going to try and complain through American Express - maybe they can help us get our money back !? Keep telling people to not buy anything thru Travel Zoo- maybe they will feel the loss from their horrible customer service!

Thanks for posting this. My friend and I had the same problem when trying to book with Skydive Hollister The vouchers cost each of us $99 and we were both unable to schedule an appointment with them after many attempts. We tried getting a refund from Travelzoo and they would not honor it, despite the fact that is is the company's fault for not being accessible. We're both stuck with these useless coupons and will have to pay them double for the same deal...if we want to take the risk of going with an unreliable and untrustworthy company. I recently had the same problem with a Groupon voucher and was refunded the same day I filed a complaint on a spa that was going out of business. I will keep my business with Groupon but will never ever buy another voucher from Travelzoo due to their bad business practices.

Travelzoo customer service

On August 10th, I sent the following email to TrazelZoo:

Hi,

I write in regards to Travelzoo Local Deals voucher #715484 for Zocalo.

Your own website promised "[t]his deal includes guacamole prepared tableside," and it wasn't. On researching the restaurant on Yelp!, I found many complaints stating that the guacamole wasn't made at the table for many of the diners. Since this was advertised as part of the deal, the restaurant should be consistant about doing this.

(See your own URL: http://www.travelzoo.com/local-deals/deal/2473, where this is promised.)

I believe the merchant’s conduct doesn't live up to what was offered, and i'd like you to please contact the merchant on my behalf and urge the merchant to honor what is advertised as noted above. The guacamole WAS excellent, but it was advertised as being made at the table, so I would like a refund of half my purchase price of $29 on the deal — of $16.50 — refunded to my credit card used.

Thanks,
name and email redacted

Two days later, I got this reply from TravelZoo:

Hi [name redacted],

I am writing in regards to your voucher for Zocalo Back Bay. We sincerely appreciate your patience while we look into your concern. As soon as we have a resolution we will contact you via email.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to respond to this email or give us a call.

We appreciate your business and look forward to speaking with you soon.

Sincerely,

I think 8 days is far too long to take to respond to this simple, clear request.

TravelZoo Local Deals are deceitful and the customer service is a run-around. Below are the issues with the voucher I purchased along with the resposes from TravelZoo. It look me nearly 2 weeks, 4 phone calls and 3 emails to end up where I started.
1) The name of the location listed at the top of the deal says "Dupont Bar and Grill." The location is actually Front Page.
2) The fine print and voucher do not mention dessert, but the deal advertisement does mention dessert.
3) The voucher over estimates the value of the food. The voucher makes the location and food seem restaurant quality. In reality, the location is a bar and is offering bar quality food.
4) The desserts offered in the advertisement do not exist on the menu on the location website. Advertisement says "Share a banana split or the apple walnut cobbler"

Response from TravelZoo
1) The ad says Dupont Bar & Grill because it is located in the DuPont Circle, which is clearly listed on the google map on the advertisement.
2) The voucher does not specifically state dessert, however it does state “valid for a 3-course dinner”, which does imply a dessert course.
3) The location is a restaurant. I have been to the website and the food looks to be of restaurant quality.
4) The menu states ‘apple crumb tart’ and ‘front page sundae’. Unfortunately, these small typo errors are not enough for management to consider an exceptional refund.

Travelzoo fraudulent sale of vouchers

Please beware before purchasing any Travelzoo Local deal vouchers. They come with a litany of fine print that unscrupulous merchants often use to get out of honoring the voucher - and Travelzoo will do absolutely nothing if you contact them regarding a voucher that was not honored despite your abiding by the rules.

Recently I purchased a voucher to Hudson Terrace bar in NYC that was to be honored for entry anytime between 8-11 pm. We arrived there at 10:50 and were told that since according to their clock it was already 11 pm we would not be allowed to use the voucher - however we would be allowed to pay full price to enter for the privledge of driving 45 minutes.

We immediately left and the next day I contacted the merchant and Travelzoo regarding this experience and demanded a refund. The merchant (Hudson Terrace) acknowledged I had a bad experience and should be issued a refund. The customer service geniuses at Travelzoo gave me the run-around over several days (via phone and e-mail) until they finally sent me an e-mail claiming that I was due a full refund within 7-10 business days and they apologized for my bad experience. After waiting 10 days I received an email today claiming that no refund is warranted because I had not abided by the fine print on the voucher (which I had).

So the situation is this: the merchant refused to honor a voucher they sold through Travelzoo, acknowledged their mistake, claimed I should be due a refund, Travelzoo accepted and promised me a refund, and then reneged on their promise for no good reason. I am putting this issue up for dispute with my credit card company but wanted to warn anyone who purchases a voucher through Travelzoo that you have absolutely no protection from unscrupolous merchants - and that Travelzoo is the most unscrupulous of all.

I agree! I recently just had an expired voucher that I did not use. I looked on the website and it stated that you may be able to redeem for the value that you paid. I paid $59 for a dinner for 2. When i contacted the merchant, they were no longer in business. I called travelzoo and they said they couldn't refund me the money and that I should take it up with the merchant?!? (even after i told them that they were no longer open for business!) They said that they have to take it up to upper management but I have a feeling that they will not issue a refund based on my experience with their customer reps. I'm waiting to hear from them, they said 3-5 days. wish me luck!

Travelzoo voucher fraud

Travelzoo shouldn't try to be something they aren't. They do no quality control on their offerings or on the people they are associating with. Geordie's Restaurant at the Wrigley Mansion was a complete and utter rip-off through the Travelzoo prepaid voucher program.

The "regular price" of $120 was completely fictitious, made up for the promotion. This was $50 worth of food, total, in a "$120 regular price" fraudulent offer from Travelzoo.

It was, according to the manager, a "Tastings menu"... NO WHERE IN THE VOUCHER PROMOTION DID IT STATE that the offer was for three very tiny "tastings" items. A tiny one or two bite "appetizer", a tiny cup of soup, and an ultra small serving of salmon. This was, at its most, a meal of $25-28 in any restaurant in town. These were "tastings to entice you to come back to our restaurant" according to the manager, but they USED A MADE UP REGULAR RETAIL PRICE OF $120 to base the tip and the tax. We ended up paying over $50 additional, after the coupon!

We want a response from a senior management person at Travelzoo. Read the reviews of this restaurant and some of them are now mentioning this Travelzoo ripoff. We will no longer trust Travelzoo. I have over 60 Groupon's currently in my inventory and we use daily deals all the time. BUT WE WILL NEVER TRUST TRAVELZOO AGAIN.

I booked a trip to Portugal for my wife's retirement. After seeing the trip on Travelzoo, I paid in full to exoticca for our trip in September. The issue is that the same trip now is 60% cheaper. I would like your help in trying to reduce the fare.

I've bought pretty much hundreds of Groupons, Livingsocials, Spreebirds, and other coupons and there is one thing in common with these companies that TravelZoo DOES NOT have: good customer service, being reasonable depending on the circumstances and an idea of fairness.

I bought a voucher for 2 people to have brunch at a local restaurant and thought it would be something cool to do. Well--it WOULD have been if we were actually able to get reservations to the place. Needless to say, I tried thoroughly and we could NOT.

I called for 3 different Sundays (Sunday Brunch was the deal) and without exaggeration each time I called 7-8 times before either giving up due to constant busy signals or ringing with no pickup--or finally reaching someone (twice only, for the second and third Sundays). Week 1: I called over and over and got busy signal or no answer so I gave up (I called literally 7 times). Week 2 I called SEVERAL TIMES on Friday and Saturday and finally got someone Saturday who told me that they were all booked up for that Sunday, so I passed hoping that week 3 would work better. Then finally, week 3--the last week to use the voucher--I called on WEDNESDAY several times to get answer and was told they were all booked up for that Sunday. I found out a friend had that same voucher and had booked the week 3 Sunday but 2 WEEKS AGO, and asked them to ask if we could be added on to their reservation and they said the restaurant said: 'no since they were all booked up'. I tried calling on Saturday of the last week and after several attempts got someone who said they were all booked up. Then finally Sunday, I couldn't get through after literally calling 10 times! I gave up, being busy with other things to do.

Important note: I also found out my friend went to the restaurant and had to wait for over an hour as they had overbooked. They had like NO tables.

So here's where Travelzoo comes in. I called them and explained everything and especially that the voucher said 'Reservations Required' but, although I tried MANY TIMES, I was NOT able to get a reservation. I told them that this wasn't a fair business practice and that I was sure they had received other calls about this and the person on the phone did NOT dispute that. We went around in circles with the poor lady on the phone constantly having to go back to her 'supervisor' who flat out said--and for no good reason except 'it is company policy'--that they would do nothing about it and just to use the voucher for face value, like this was something that was fair and good. WTH? I told them that was extremely poor business practice and that they are pretty much reneging on their end of a contract since what they promised was essentially impossible to enjoy, and perhaps to escalate this and to change their policy to judge when the fairness of the voucher is in question. The same answer came back every time (something you would expect from a scam company when they've 'got you'), and I felt bad for the person on the phone (seeing as with Travelzoo all they do for you is the 'my supervisor' runaround, allowing you to take out your frustrations on someone who just repeats 'policy') so I let it go for her sake (there's no reason to make someone feel like c*** because the company is basically screwing the consumer and has it built in so their employees get yelled at while they profit).

However, I did tell Travelzoo to file a complaint for me and that I would be taking all action possible to rectify this total unfairness, including telling everyone I know about it. The answer--over and over again--of 'well, you should have called us during the non-expiration time DOESN'T fly, because I was TRYING TO ACTUALLY GO TO THE RESTAURANT DURING THAT TIME.

INSTEAD, how about: 'Hey Travelzoo, why don't you actually screen and make sure that the restaurants you offer and the vouchers you offer ACTUALLY GIVE A FAIR CHANCE TO USE THEM?' or 'Why don't you try some fair business practices and some reasonable thoughts when running your business', instead of just trying to throw it back in the consumer's face?

Honestly, I have seldom had such a bad customer service experience in general, and NEVER EVER with other coupon sites. They get complaints like the one I'm making, they check it out, they try to be reasonable and we work it out. I'M not the one trying to pull a fast one here Travelzoo--YOU ARE. With Travelzoo--they basically say: 'well, you're SCREWED, too bad'.

Nice one Travelzoo; you'll feel THAT one eventually I'm sure.

P.S. I even asked for Travelzoo credit (which I wasn't at all sure I'd be able to use, but just to get a more fair resolution) and they said 'there's nothing we can do'. I said: 'yes there is, you can be reasonable and at least give me credit--you can definitely do that'.

Here's something I caught reading the 'Official Rules". Completely contradicting. So which is it!? Haha...this is crazy! (I copied and pasted portions, see their page for full Official Rules)

(GRAND) PRIZE: Trip destination to be determined by the Sponsor. The potential winner will be informed of the selected location during the notification process. Trip includes round-trip coach airfare for two (2) from winner's nearest major airport, and hotel accommodations to be specified by the Sponsor.
ARV is $3, 000 USD.

PRIZE CONDITIONS: All travel related expenses for ground transportation to and from home, taxes, gratuities, incidentals, upgrades, insurance, service charges, airport surcharges, departure taxes, hotel, resort or property fees, food & beverage and personal expenses such as telephone/Internet charges, and gift shop purchases are the sole responsibility of prize winner.

Anyway, it still sounds good because of the $3, 000!

I went from loving travelzoo deals to absolutely hate them. First I purchased a dinner deal at showcase restaurant, I was totally not impressed with the quality of steak they served (both pieces were totally overcooked). However, I thought it was a one time thing so I just took it in. Then I purchased another deal last december for adesso bistro for $49 (for up to $102 in value). Absolutely horrible! I went, and was offered a "special menu" for travelzoo vouchers, and half of the items on that menu had extra charges, and only 2 people can have the deal, otherwise I had to order more (which I was forced to order something else, but nowhere on it said it couldn't be shared with 3 people). The voucher indicated the deal was for the regular menu. When I order from the regular menu according to what's included with the voucher, I got charged extra for EVERY SINGLE THING ordered. I told the owners this is wrong and I shouldn't be charged something that's included in the deal but they insisted of charging me. I asked the owner to put together a combo that will add up to the value of $102 as indicated on the voucher, but they couldn't do it because most of the stuff only added up to around $75, and they said they charged to low on the menu so they have to charge extra. I had to pay because they were making a scene with bad manners. Very unethical business, will NEVER return. Then I reported this to travelzoo immediately and wanted a refund, all they could say was they are sorry I was not "happy" with my experience, but refused to issue a refund (WTF!?...) and I should resolve this issue with the merchant (the restaurant) myself. I can not believe it. At the end, this so called deal only saved me $26, not $102. I have brought this issue with my bank because I am furious.

We also got ripped off by that Geordies Wrigley Mansion Travelzoo voucher. We could have had a better meal for much less just about anywhere in the city.. The view from the lounge was beautiful, but dinner was a joke for the supposed $120. Travelzoo must not do any checking on what they promote, but I will never trust them for anything but air travel in the future. BEWARE

Travelzoo rectified my complaint.
Just thought I'd let people know that my $89 voucher for the Four Seasons Hotel in Whistler has be Refunded. Not sure if this happened because of my reply email from yesterday or from the blogging I did last night, regardless, this morning I received a phone call notifying me a refund was being processed. Good for Travelzoo Inc. for turning a wrong into a right!

Just got burn $89 by Travelzoo. Bought a dinner for 2 at Whistler's Four Seasons. When I called to make my reservation I discovered there was a huge blackout period when the voucher couldn't be used. Hotel Management said Travelzoo were told of this but they didn't pass the information on to the purchasers. After 4 emails and a phone call I was informed I was stuck with the voucher wouldn't trade it or refund it. Definitely a buyer beware situation. I won't conduct any further business with them.
