The San Diego Union-Tribune Download issues

As before, your online Sunday edition (this problem exists in the daily editions also) has a problem with the comic section downloads. When checking the thumbnails to select pages for download the program does not download the selected pages. For example (see file trib5.jpg) when checking today’s thumbnails (in this case pages 88-92) 6 pages and selecting "download" the program downloads 55 pages not 6. If we select pages 87-88 (2 pages) the download is OK. If we select pages 89-92 (4 pages) the download is OK. Otherwise, we get many more pages than selected. It appears that if the thumbnails are not contiguous (or on the same line) the instructions do not work. Looks like a programming bug on your end. We hope you will fix this problem going forward. Please advise!

I have attached screenshots to help you visualize the issue.

Regards,

Doug Gordon

The San Diego Union-Tribune Online edition

It was harder than usual--impossible in fact--to get the online edition enlarged to a readable size today. I don't know what you've done but, generally, I hate the online edition so not reading it isn't a real problem. What will be a real problem is if you increase this unpalatable option to include more days...at that point I drop my subscription as do a number of my friends.

Desired outcome: Go back to 7 day a week print edition

The San Diego Union-Tribune Wells fargo fraud

On 11/01/2021 we received a letter stating that our fraud claim inquiry ending in 0574 has been closed.

On 11/12/2021 Donna received a letter regarding case number [protected] stating that your review of an unauthorized online transfer from our checking account # ending in 8735 to checking account number ending in 3300 in the amount of $50, 000 on 10/19/2021 could not be reversed due to insufficient funds.

Ladies and gentlemen, we need to all be on the same page.

1. My husband made the following three deposits into account ending 8735
9/21 $35, 797.45
9/22. $8, 900.00
10/05. $87, 781.04

On 10/19 someone at Wells Fargo moved $50, 000 from account ending 8735 into our
account ending 3300 and it was neither myself nor my husband

On 10/20 I received a call from Wells Fargo stating that $49, 150.00 was put into our account ending 3300 by mistake and would we please wire transfer it to Bangkok. I had no knowledge that my husband had made a large deposit and foolishly believed a mistake had been made.

Also on 10/20 our account ending in 8735 was charged
$11.48 purchase international authorized on 10/19 Zomato media
$.34 international purchase fee

And on 10/22 charged a stop payment fee $31.00

On 10/29 $11.48 was given as a credit back to 8735
On 10/29. $.34 was given as credit back to 8735

What continues to nag at me is the fact that ONLY Wells Fargo personnel knew that my husband had made a large deposit.

I expect further diligent investigation by your fraud department as well as the local Wells Fargo branch. I will also be contacting the F.B. I., the F.D. I.C., and the Consumer Finance.gov

Sincerely,
Donna Ballew

The San Diego Union-Tribune Delivery of the morning paper to 3207 McCall St, San Diego 92106

We have asked numerous times to have our newspaper delivered at our front gate by the mail box instead of in the driveway. It is still being tossed in the driveway. As we are very old senior citizens this has been very inconvenient and we would appreciate it having it delivered to our front door area instead of the driveway. This has been a problem since our previous deliverer quit and passed the route to Jaymes.

Desired outcome: Delivered paper to our front walk by the mail box

The San Diego Union-Tribune Delivery, on-line complaint, and lack of proof reading in content

Newspapers are often delivered late or not at all. Phone complaints often don't solve the issue.

The on-line complaint link page won't load even though my PC cache has plenty of space for content. (Customer service person told me I didn't have enough cache available to load the page.)

I have trouble reading some articles because of the many spelling and grammatical errors. I've even seen whole or partial paragraphs misplaced in articles.

Desired outcome: Clean up delivery issues, make on-line contact page robust, try proof reading sometimes.

The San Diego Union-Tribune Bad Hoa and helpless homeowners

Can you please do a story on how to handle bad HOAs. I'm sure I'm not the only homeowner that is helpless against a compromised Board of Directors with a bad management company.

I'm a elderly man that owns a unit in San Diego for ten years. I initially occupied my unit for two years then rented it out for six years. I moved back in approximately two years ago. My complex is located in Oak Park. My complex looks like it belongs on the cover of Better Ghettos and Garbage. It is 50% owner occupied. The CCRs are hardly being enforced. I have sent probably around hundred emails to our management company over two years. It's a miracle when I achieve any success. I have been bullied and not been allowed to speak during monthly HOA meetings, my emails have been ignored, and I have been degraded by our management company. This is a violation of Sterling Act. I have included the Board of Directors recently in my communications. The president has informed me that he is not willing to change our Management company because it will affect our relationship with our lawyer.

I cannot afford a lawyer as the cost is prohibitive. My complex is a unsafe, insane and unsanitary place to live. It's extremely stressful to live in my complex. I will be happy to meet with you (socially distant and masked). I'm vaccinated but am extra careful due to my age and health.

One phone call or email to the president of our Board will change our complex for the betterment.

Thank you,

Kiran Kapadia

The San Diego Union-Tribune Newspaper delivery

I have been a subscriber to the San Diego Union since the times there was an afternoon paper.
I moved to Santee in September of 2020. Ever since I have had constant, continuous problems getting my paper delivered. The newspaper never arrives and I have had to call pretty much 100% of the days I am due to get the paper to request a paper be delivered.
Today was the ultimate. I called three times and eventually the newspaper arrived between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m.
I just went out and saw five copies of the Sunday paper dropped outside my garage door. This was obviously a message to me. I have photographs of these newspapers.
What type of business does this? We have a contract, I pay a certain amount of money and you deliver my newspaper. I should not have to call, it should arrive as scheduled.
I don't know where to go with this. Can you please see how this can be resolved?
Thank you,
Alicia Vicars

The San Diego Union-Tribune Newspaper not delivered

We did not receive our Sunday Morning Paper yesterday at 4915 Uvada Place SD 92116. I called THREE times and the last time they said that the paper would be delivered by 12:30pm. It never came at all. I called at 8am this morning 8/2/21 and they said they would deliver by noon. It hasn't some yet and I have called the office to once AGAIN file a complaint and request for the delivery of Sunday's Paper. Spoke to SABRINA twice and the best she could do was tell me it would come within the next 48 hours. This is the poorest service I have ever had and unacceptable really for a business like yours.
Also I have requested that the newspaper be delivered ON THE PORCH as the guy who delivers it just races down this little dead end street, throws it out the window and it lands on the lawn or sidewalk. My Mother is 93 years old and it is very difficult for her to get down the stairs to retrieve the paper each morning. I think the least he can do is make sure it gets on the porch. Please let me know you got this message and I would appreciate a speedy reply as to what you can do.

Many thanks,
Mrs Karpinski
4915 Uvada Place

Desired outcome: Sunday's (8/1/21) paper delivered ASAP and ON THE PORCH at this address.

The San Diego Union-Tribune Paper delivery

Over the last several months paper delivery has become awful! At least once a week there is no delivery and other days delivery times vary from 5AM to 9AM. When I call to report a no delivery day the response I get is that my delivery person will be notified and I'll get a paper but no paper is ever delivered. The delivery service has become the worse I've experienced in 40+ years in San Diego. Unless there's an improvement this will be my last subscription period, it's hardly worth the inconvenience.
Thank you

Desired outcome: A PAPER DELIVERED EVERY DAY

The San Diego Union-Tribune Double Billing

On 4/9/21 I was charged $76.96 for a one year digital subscription to the UT. On 5/9/21 I was charged again for 76.96. I immediately called the UT customer service number and reported that I was charged twice and requested that the charge to my credit card be refunded. Was told issue would be looked into and I would be contacted within 48 hours. Never heard a thing and charge remained on credit card. Called twice more to customer service line and was given same run around. Was told issue was being "escalated" but no refund. Sent email to customer service. Was told issue would be looked into. Have heard nothing and still no refund. How can I get my money back?

Desired outcome: Want refund issued to credit card!

The San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper

Today marks the third time in about a month that i have not received my Sunday paper. I don't want the Sunday paper on Monday. I had my account credited 2 times today I asked for it to be brought to me late. I still have not received my paper. This is ridiculous. Very poor service and no one to speak with on the phone. If I am not going to be getting my paper on Sunday I would like a FULL refund.

The San Diego Union-Tribune union tribune won't stop delivering newspaper - I have no account with them

I've called UT threes times and spoke to 3 different call handlers (including a supervisor manager) to plead with them to stop delivering news papers on my driveway. They ask for my phone number and address to look me up and exclaim "i'm so sorry sir, we cannot find your account in our records." I then respond "that's the PROBLEM, I have no account, have not ever had an account nor do I want UT newspapers, set they erroneously keep getting delivered to by address in the drive way". I even have the vehicle and driver identified with my security cameras. They won't stop delivering newspapers, probably belonging to someone else in the neighborhood who is NOT getting theirs.

Any ideas on how to get this delivery stopped?

EXTERNAL SOURCE

First of all "Dear Valued Customer" as a generic greeting does NOT apply to me. I am NOT a customer. I have NO subscription with UT what-so-ever, in fact, every time I call your "customer support" number to complain about unwanted UT paper deliveries piling up at my address, the person at UT can't find my phone number nor address in your system...why...?

BECAUSE I DON"T HAVE A FRICKIN ACCOUNT WITH UNION TRIBUNE, I NEVER ORDERED ANY NEWS PAPERS...DO YOU GET IT!?!

Secondly, " Would you be willing to provide us your best contact number and the most convenient time we can call you?", why in heck do I need someone from UT to call me...for what?

Instead, a better use of UT time, someone from UT needs to call and escalate to the distribution dispatch manager or whoever, and tell them to STOP DELIVERING NEWS PAPERS TO MY ADDRESS...LIKE...NOW, TODAY...RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT!...IS THIS GETTING THROUGH TO YOU!?!

If UT is unable to effectively manage their distribution delivery drivers, my recommendation is to immediately FIRE the current driver and hire someone who can follow instructions.

Can you explain to me... if I am receiving unwanted newspapers that I have NOT subscribed nor paid for, and I'm probably not the only person in San Diego experiencing this, how's delivering free unwanted UT papers that pisses off customers an effective business model for your company? Is this how UT expects to grow their business in flouring in a declining newspaper market?

The local police have already been contacted about my complaint.
Next, I take legal action through the court system...get ready!

STOP delivering unwanted UT newspapers to my address NOW, I am NOT a subscriber!

Please make these un-welcomed UT deliveries STOP NOW!
I recommend firing the delivery driver if you have to.

• Delivery address (including zip code):
• Color of the plastic bag: clear
• Day paper is being delivered: every Sunday for the past 4 weeks during November. as well as yesterday and today (11.28.19 and 11.29.19) - see today's surveillance photo below of two (2) more paper deliveries.

The San Diego Union-Tribune price of subscription

My subscription was ending in July and I received a renewal bill for $533.40. Was speaking to a friend 5 minutes away that also receives her paper every day for 20+ years. I told her that I just received my bill for $533.40 she was shocked. She only pays 251.59 for the same 7 days a week all year. She showed me her bill for the last few years. I was shocked over the difference in price.
I called the UT and requested to speak to someone in the Retention Dept. She stated Customer Service also covers retention.
I told her why I was calling and told her about the difference in price and that I was not happy. Ask if they could match my friends price or close to it. I also stated I did not want the Digital Paper if that would reduce the price since I do not read the paper on line. She stated I need to get it regardless . They went down in price by $15.00. I said that was not good enough.
I was told that I need to wait 30 days once my subscription ends then order a new subscription on line to get it for $260.00 for the year. So much for being a loyal customer. Why such a difference in price? I believe this is outrageous that there is such a difference in price for the same zip code and for being a customer for 20+ years. For how many years have I been ripped off ? If I did not see my friends bill I would not have believe that they would treat their customers in this fashion. No wonder they are losing subscribers. The San Diego Union-Tribune daily delivery

More days than not, my newspaper is not delivered. I've asked that it be thrown into the underground garage to be sure it is not being stolen, but no - that doesn't happen.
Today there was a newspaper, but for the neighbor down the street (address printed
on wrapper).

It has become a daily frustration to make a service call every morning...

The San Diego Union-Tribune billing

In December I did not receive the paper 3 days in a row, i called and was told you were going to credit my account. On my January billing I noticed I had been double billed for the month, the rate was higher and I didn't get a credit. I called and spoke to Shel. She informed me they would credit the account for 21.84, and adjust the billing back to 18.50 a month, confirmation # [protected]. I received my credit card statement for this month and you did not credit my account for the 21.84, you did not adjust the billing back to 18.50 and you are billing me every three weeks instead of four. I also received a mail statement from you yesterday stating the dates for billing were 1/31 - 2/22 which is three weeks not four. and the amount is still 21.08 instead of 18.50. please credit my account for the 21.84 for the double billing in Dec., and 2.58 for the over billing on 1/28 and please start billing me for 4 weeks instead of 3 weeks.

Since it seems that there is only one avenue to secure a vacation hold with this newspaper, which is through an automated voice, I supplied the date to stop our newspaper (07/12/18) and the date to start again (07/21/18) to this automated voice. There was no confirmation email. While we were on vacation the newspaper was delivered on these dates: July 12, 15, 16, 17, 19.

First, the newspapers were delivered during the time of my vacation hold. Second, there are days missing for the newspaper delivery. Third, we don't want newspapers building up on our driveway for all to see that we are gone.

In addition, this is not the first time that the newspaper has been delivered while we were on a vacation hold.

Since I submitted vacation hold dates, I expect that there will not be a charge on my account for the ten days we were gone.

There is a site online for Vacation Hold, which takes me to Subscriber Services under which are four categories: Manage My Account (vacation hold), U-T Perks, Archives and Subscriber Guide. Manage My Account (vacation hold) does not appear to work, the other three categories are functioning, therefore I had to resort to the automated voice.

Since there has been a problem more than once with NOT delivering our newspaper during a vacation hold, I am using this complaint form. Not a positive choice.

Please respond,
Anna Lohse

The San Diego Union-Tribune paper delivery

we are not getting our papers! The only alternative is to quit taking the paper. If you can't get it here on time--you need to alert your customers that you are experiencing problems and to please understand that you are in the process of getting it resolved. Then say "don't expect a paper for the next week" or something along those lines. Because when you tell me several times a day that the paper is coming and it never does--you are outright lying. When my paper lies about when it will be delivered, I have no faith in what it prints!

I am a long time customer but recently I am very disappointed in your delivery service. Since last Thursday, I didn't receive the paper 3 times. I called around 8:00 to 8:30 to have them deliver it and I never received it. When I called again, they said it was to late for delivery that day. I understand we have a new paper carrier but after three calls it shows that they don't care. Please look into this matter.

Oh, I almost forgot. When the U-T has not been delivered I tried the e-version. Sneer, sneer, sneer! the print is so blurred on all three of our computers that it is illegible. Shame, shame, shame (perhaps making statements three times will do the trick!)
