TCF Bank Online banking and customer service

I have had accounts with TCF for well over 20 years. The latest merger has made it impossible for me to log into my accounts on line, as a verification code keeps being sent to a land line phone even though my cell is listed with them. I have spent hours on hold on several different occasions trying to get ahold of someone about this to finally just give up. Today August 20, 2020 I went into a location and was told its happening to thousands of people, deposits are not be put into peoples accounts, checks are bouncing because of this. I'm concerned about how easy it would be for professionals to gain access to our information if they can't fix their own problems. I pay my bills on line through the on-line banking and am now worried about getting payments made on time. I'm starting to feel the mail would be faster.

I have also had two accounts with TCF for years and have no access to either of my accounts on-line. Before the merger things were excellent and now even if you reach "customer service " many of the people that you talk to have no idea how to solve this problem. I am amazed that a bank would let itself reach this level of irresponsibility! I will be stopping by my little TCF in Edina to see if anyone there can solve this, or I will cancel my accounts and go to another bank. It's really too bad after many years of being a responsible bank system.

TCF Bank Overdraft fees

My account was charged a total of 5 overdraft fees within one day and I didn't receive one alert regarding the overdraft fees. I checked my account the day before and it was current and the very next day I check my account and it's overdrawn for some transactions that were made almost a week ago which my balance reflected. Regardless if a transaction is pending or posted the amount is deducted. One charged that was posted was made on the 30th of last month, which I know made the account overdrawn as I was told if the merchant reverses the transactions than the fees will be reversed.. So why am I being charged fees for other transactions... Exactly a way for the bank to get over... No alerts of overdraft fees which I have alerts setup on my account again for the bank to get over and charge you fees without your knowledge... Not to mention I asked the bank on 5/4/20 to stop payments to this merchant and the transaction was still approved... Poor banking services! First photo shows were I asked for the stop payment to be applied
Second shows were the agent determines one transaction be reversed for fee to be reversed but I was charged 5 fees for charges that were place when the account was current and the balance reflected each transaction

TCF Bank unauthorized use of my debit card and checking account.

I reported unauthorized activity on my account and your fraud department told me that the the activity was justified because it was done over the phone. I have incurred several thousand dollars in OD and NSF fees because of this activity. Every time I have called about these excessive fees, I was told that there is nothing they could do about it. Also in this unauthorized activity, I had 3 loans taken out in my name that I have no idea where they came from. Is there anyone at your bank that actually cares about customers? And because of these excessive fees, my entire disability check is now lost to me and I have to find a way to live for the next month.

TCF Bank ann bank manager

I went into Palos Heights, IL TCF bank with my father and mother's death certificates to find they have a $8000+ CD. Ann bank manager was not only rude to me, she was rude to my brother on the phone in Texas. She first said I could get my 50% share then decided I could wait until she received my brother's notorized statement. She made it seem like that would be more convenient for her. When I whispered to myself, she called across the bank "that's enough!" I am a 62 y/o woman and do not appreciate being treated in this manner. I'm sure she is rude to others. How she is a manager representing your company is beyond me. The only good thing is after we cash the CD I will never have to deal with her or TCF bank again.

Dear Mr. Vogel:

Thank you for your reply to my concerns and information provided; I will indeed contact the Minnesota OLPR as you suggested but, for the record, the main crux of my complaint is proper, legal notice ("Summons") was not received until after the garnishment occurred either from Gurstel or the financial institution. Just today, a week after the removal of funds, were papers received (deceptively dated July 8; which was the date funds were cleared from the account) not allowing me to respond within in legal time-frame.

Gurstel Law Firm P.C. has twenty complaints to the Better Business Bureau within a three year time frame; apparently, this is their modus operandi. Currently, I have a case awaiting hearing with Social Security Disability. At this writing the debt is five years old as this is when long-term disability insurance expired; since then I have had no regular or dependable income.

I had been requesting my online account be closed and funds transfered to my other bank Tcf had closed my account after 1 week of charity deposit and told me in the bank while customer and my co -worker present that our funds are fraud and this was loud by the bank manager funds were deposited then taken out then re- deposited well didn't sound like fraud to me but that what their trying to make it sound like debit/atm had a hold and next thing I know the accounts closed and due to the transfer saying it was fraud your the ones that flagged the account May 27, 2019, as told by recorded conversation with your fraud dept and customer service employee Apple, and your banking policy is what? what we see is they had 3 chances not to deposit the much- needed funds to our program and now you scream it was a fraud., how does TCF close our account and do not have the correct social security number ..so fraud supervisor Victor ( 50781) said there's no documentation of fraud on July 25, 2019, @ 2:30 p.m. I was asked to bring my ss card which I did September 11, 2019, at the West Bdwy branch where they were helpful but still you go above and beyond you close our account don't have correct social security number accuse me of fraud discriminate against us. Then I order TCF gift cards aprox. $6.000 get a confirmin number along with Paid in full. then 2 days later I received a TCF letter telling me my TIN does not match. I have an EIN.

TCF Bank insurance claim check endorsement

I contacted tcf bank when I received my claim check from the insurance company. tcf is the second mortgage holder for my house and advised me what steps to take. I followed tcf instructions and submitted my checks. Initial contact made on March 21 via phone, sent letter on March 22, 2019.

Despite my efforts to follow all of tcf's "rules" they continue to deny my endorsement request due to the fact that I cannot get a written list of endorsement requirements from my first lien holder, Freedom Mortgage.

Freedom Mortgage has repeatedly told me that they do not have any requirements and endorsed my checks and approved the insurance claim within 24 hours. Freedom Mortgage contacted tcf per my request, and advised that such, and did send additional information via fax on April 22, 2019

I have been in communication with tcf bank for over 4 weeks now, without success. They continue to push back and send me on a wild goose chase to track down Freedom Mortgages written requirements, which I have not been able to verify or obtain.

This has forced me to pay for my property damages with my credit card, forcing me to take on more debt while tcf sits on checks to pay for the damage.

TCF Bank I received an email indicating there was fraud on my checking account.

I went to my local tcf bank, which by the way has awesome customer service but was unable to see anything in my account activity that appeared unusual. We shredded my debit card & I was issued a new card. The supervisor advised I contact the tcf customer service number indicated in the email. I was very hesitant since the last time I did the person I spoke to was of no help has no customer service skills at all however the supervisor said they has information available to them on their screens that the local branches did not. I phoned the number on the email, told the woman what happened. She said she could help me, then the line went dead. I called back, got another women, told her what happened, she asked my name, old card number, me address, last 4 numbers of my ss the them the line went dead again! I'm thinking really? Tcf it's probably been 5 years since I called tcf customer service & they are still the worst I have ever dealt with in my entire life! They just drop a call? Really? So I still have no idea who, what this fraud was. I would like to have pursued it but because the customer service of tcf is just pitiful that is never going to happen. And what makes me more upset is there isn't any person I can talk to about this so it will just keep happening. Why go I still bank at tcf? My local tcf has amazing customer service! They bend over backwards for everyone.

TCF Bank dishonest and unethical business services

I spoke to a CSR about an amount owed on a perviously finance vehicle that was stolen in January of 2018. The past due amount I was under the knowledge that my Gap insurance would cover which they did but not the full amount unfortunately I was unaware. I had sent off a letter to Gateway One purposing payment AS SOON AS POSSIBLE of amount due without interest and with the negative remarks of "derogatory" for this company be removed and once payment was submitted it would just state "PAID AS AGREED", in which someone reached out to me and we had agreed to these terms, I ask for them to send a hard company stating they agreed, i never received one, instead i received another call as if i had not already reached out to resolve this debt and had perviously came to terms that was of benefit both this company and myself. This company tried to deceive me into a verbal contract the had no intentions to uphold. As they too were aware of the Gap insurance issue that I was totally in the dark about until i got a letter stating i had a balance pending. I had never went without payment for my vehicle and my account has always been up to date. When i asked for a corporate contact i was told by the Gateway One CSR that i need to contact TCF bank as they are uncharge of this matter which is extremely confusing, because this was the first time i have ever heard of this institution.

My desired resolution is to resolve the debt on this account as quickly as possible while keeping my credit in tact being this mishap and the delay of information and lack of communication to me was the issue as to why this debt was incurred. I want all of the negative remarks deleted as the CRS stated would be done once payment from me has been posted they insured me that this could and would be done and replace with "paid as agreed". I want it in writing as this company has proved untrustworthy.

TCF Bank tcf bank closed my account with no notifications

I'm a TCF bank customer since 1994 and, this November, the bank closed my account with out informing me! I went to one of their branch office and, they could not give me an answer! They all just gave me, the round around! My direct deposite from my employer was posted but, I could not get it from branch office, because they put a hold on it! I issued a lot of checks including my mortgage and it was not paid! I've been calling the bank and they said I could withdraw my money in one of their branches near me Than but when I went to the bank, there's a hold on my money! I'm very hopeless now because my bills piled up not getting paid and I have to pay penalties! I don't
Have that kind of money to pay and my family needs to eat! Please help me on this matter ! I've been patient for 2 weeks! I couldn't sleep! My mortgage was past due and the company wants me to pay double this month and TCF is holding my money. Please, please help me! Thank you.

TCF Bank poor management of my checking account

Good Afternoon,

I am one of perhaps thousands of your customers who are tired of the
"re-sorting or re-ordering" of transactions for the purpose of generating overdraft fees. I first thought I was just not paying good enough attention to my account, but after reading news articles and many, many complaints, I now realize that your bank is actually using this process to STEAL money from your customers. If I make a purchase and overdraw my account, I have no problem paying a fee. However, found that no amount of caution on my part will prevent your practice of sorting and resorting the transactions to insure that overdraft fees are incurred on a regular basis.

I review my balance and transactions daily so I know exactly what has been posted on the account and what the balance is. I also took screenshots of the transactions to prove that the "posting" dates were changed, causing transactions to be counted twice; thus causing overdraft fees. I figure that I have lost about 250.00 to this practice, and yet just yesterday I discovered that your bank is at it again. I will not pay these fees and my next complaint will be to the Kroger bank that your branch is housed in, as well as the city that your branch is located in. In addition, I will join the class action suit that has been brought against TCF Bank. It is a sad shame that your bank continuously works at stealing valuable funds from many people who are students, low-income people, average working people and retirees who can't afford to keep an extra $500 or $1000 in their accounts to protect themselves from YOU their bank, where their funds should be safeguarded.

TCF Bank mortgage balloon, mortgage modification

This started in 2008 when I went through being laid off by TCF Mortgage.
I was going to walk away and declare bankruptcy and walk away from my house, TCF sent my attorney a letter stating they would cut my mortgage 1/2 and have a balloon payment due in 10 years and in 10 years TCF may forgive or extend my balloon payment. Alan Sondenburg my co worker at TCF produced this letter, my attorney said it was amazing TCF would do this. Now in 2017 4 months before my balloon is due, I called TCF and asked for a monthly payment for the 75, 000 balloon since I don't have the money since I'm disabilied, after filling out lots of paperwork and explaining a letter about why I want to stay in my house I have lived in since 1968. TCF has decided my debt to income is high and my credit rating is too low. WOW, the letter TCF gave me in 2007 was a fraud and they never followed the balloon instructions about extending the balloon or making a monthly payment arrangement, just another TCF game, I have tried about 10 times to reapply to work at a job with TCF but being laid off in 2007 I am banded from working there again, because the entire mortgage department got laid off before x-mas, another screw in the coffin from TCF. WHY is TCF allowed to destroy employees lives and not caring about someone who is trying to stay in my house since 1968. KARMA will get them.

TCF Bank checking and savings account.

When I started the process to open these accounts with tcf I had to send in a copy of my id and social. Only to later see that a -$170 had posted to my account. Reason being someone used my social to open an account and even though you could clearly see the information did not match tcf made me jump through burning hoops to try to get the balance removed. When I filed the police report it was not good enough so they refused to remove the balance from my valid accounts. Then a week later they closed my accounts. And tried to tell me the reason for the closure was the balance owed. How do I owe a balance on an account I never opened. This is by far the worst bank I never had a chance to bank with. I don't recommend them for anything. And I am gladly taking my business elsewhere.

TCF Bank automated directory service

I called In to ask a simple question and it took me 10 minutes to get to a customer service rep. There was no hold time, and this was all trying to navigate the service. If I want to talk to someone I should be able to talk to someone. I know your corporate employees are capable of deploying a reliable system, so why don't they? Are they sub par, or does tcfbank just not care?

TCF Bank loan setup and fees

I was setup with this institution through my lender. Worst bank ever. First I was told since we didn't close on our house until June 24th, we would not be paying a mortgage until August 1st. That didn't happen with TCF, they sent me something due July 23rd and with the move and delays with the mail I didn't get it. I was then hit with an annual fee and origination fees. Werent those supposed to be in the escrow? Total sketchy company. Instead of a second mortgage they set me up with a LOC. I don't need a line of credit! nor did I ask for one. Website shows no pertinent information and don't bother to call them as the customer service is mediocre as best. I will be refinancing with a legitimate bank ASAP. Would never recommend this lender ever!

TCF Bank processing post dated checks

TCF National Bank has a policy to process post dated checks. Letting people and business to cash in on checks BEFORE the date on the checks as long as they walk into the Branch. I had a checked dated for December 25th 2015. The check was cashed December 23rd 2015. While the funds were not deposited into my account to cover the check until December 24th, making me pay the $37 overdraft fee. I have been a member of TCF since 1985. This policy is unlawful and against the Federal Government. I'm very disappointed with TCF now and will be closing my account with them.

TCF Bank overdraft fee

These people charge you overdraft on one product for 2 times on your account. When you call them and ask them to explain the scenario they tell you that they processes it that way. They rip off people.
DO NOT HAVE ANY ACCOUNTS WITH THEM. They does the same thing to all the customers. Am a loyal customer to this bank since many years and they do not have a courtesy to serve their customers.

TCF Bank nsf fees and holding deposits

TCF Bank selects items to suspend in order to add NSF fees. TCF Bank adds NSF fees to RETURNED checks that have overdraft protection. TCF bank then accepts the same check when it is submitted for payment by the vendor the second time. TCF Bank then adds another NSF fee to the same check. The vendor requests a late fee payment, TCF Bank will pay the late fee and add NSF fees. For a $74 check, TCF Bank have charged me on more than one occasion up to $148 in NSF fees.

TCF bank over charges for overdrafts they charged me 175.00 on fees for being 17 DOLLARS small because there policy is f*** every one that banks there for example i had the CASH to cover all but one trans but instead they worked it so that they could make the most out of every transaction so if you like getting robbed by your bank than bank with tcf bank today.

SIGN ME UP FOR OVERDRAFT. HAD ME TO BELIEVE THERE'S A ONE TIME FEE FOR THE MONTH AND WILL GET APPROVED FOR TRANSACTIONS UP TO $500.00. WELL IT WAS NOT TRUE. I WAS HIT WITH ALL KINDS OF INSUFF. FUNDS .THEY SEEN ME COMING. THEN I GOT RELIEVED FROM TWO TRANS. I AM REALLY UPSET AND I BELIEVE THAT I WAS MIS INFORMED TO COLLECT SEVERAL FEES.

5000 minimum to avoid monthly fees! Seriously. $1.95 " check imaging fee " to cash my own check, on my own account at my local branch. Switched to Chase. They are the BEST.

$54.95 has been taken from my account by TCF Bank. I've never had any business with TCF Bank and certainly didn't authorize this debit. I will be talking to my bank about this transaction.

Somebody is charging on my account. Date of charge-8/5 /2010. They charge - Club Services Oceanside Caus. They charge $49.00. They charge again now. I want it stop.

TCF BANK is a miserable institution. They steal money. The customer is never right. The University of Michigan should withdraw their support, because in advising their students to join TCF, they're helping Tcf extort money from them.

TCF Bank Over drafted my account over and over sense opening account
first time contacted BBB and got no where filed consumer complaint after this and again got no where

But TCF gave a lot of my money back then again this month December social security check gets deposited pay rent and other bills and after should Have been $400.00 left find out there is nothing there

Well TCF, a new class action lawsuit I am sure will be coming your way thanks to your new daily overdraft fees of $28 a day! I have been a customer for over 15yrs and I will be closing my account and going with my local credit union. Enjoy the money you have stole from me and you can keep the .02 cents of interest I'm getting on my crappy savings account! When is someone going to bail out the hard working citizens of America instead of these greedy, self-serving BANKS!

TCF Bank foreclosing

Tcf bank is nothing but a joke! My Dad passed away & the bank offered to do a hardship on the loan for a year & told me that the $400.00 difference that I was not paying for the year would be applied to back of the loan. WELL guess what the year is up & now I am getting foreclosure letters! So since I cannot come up with the money they will start foreclosure process. I tried calling & this rude woman Vicki told me that I am living in a house that does not belong to me & I cannot prove that my Dad is my father, well his name is on my birth certificate but thats not good enough. She then tells me I need to get out. Unbelievable. Now they are going to buy the 2012 1st installment of property tax too, funny because I have always paid the property tax it was always a little late because I have to wait until I get my income tax return but it has always been paid, it never went up for auction thru the county. So TCF is nothing but a lying bank. Thanks for making a single mom with two little ones to end up homeless!

TCF Bank nsf charges

Same complaint as others posted on this website regarding the balances listed on TCF's online banking not being accurate and showing as funds available. When customer makes withdrawls or writes checks on an account that shows plenty of funds available, account becomes overdrawn and TCF charges a $37.00 NSF fee. TCF repeatedly denies a 'bank error' although branch staff admit to known issues with the online banking system balances being inaccurate. Strongly recommend banking somewhere else!

TCF Bank nsf charges

My son was charged $37 insufficient funds fee 5 times (total $185) despite depositing funds exceeding the negative balance prior to at least three of the transactions for which he was penalized. The tellers he talked to acknowledged this - they gave him receipts showing +ve balance, but maintain that transactions prior to clearing of checks still incur the $37 penalty regardless of what is showing as his account balance. They would not let my son, a freshman away from home, see the Bank manger or anyone else who may have the discretion to waive these ridiculous fees. I know the fine print he signed stipulated this fee, but should they not have warned him that he will be charged if he makes use of the money he deposited which was showing as positive balance? Paying $185 for withdrawals totaling less than $30 seems total ripoff .. does he have any recourse?

Online banking site is not secure or reliable. the online banking service will change your pay date to cause account to overdraft. Tcf bank will not reverse unauthorized charges or investigate disputes unless made to by u.s. govt or other agency. Bank is arrogant and evil.

Couldn't have said it better myself. To say they are a bunch off arrogant A$$h0le$ would be an insult to other arrogant A$$h0le$. If my problem isn't solved tp my liking contacting the government will be my next option.

Customer service is terrible unwilling to help. I am planning to close my account nothing but a headache. Worst bank I've ever dealt with. I have nothing positive to say about this bank.
