How responsive is Sonic Drive-In's customer service?

Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Sonic Drive-In handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Sonic Drive-In and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Sonic Drive-In chicken sandwich and fries.

My chicken sandwhich is soggy and old and tastes burnt. And it is also not how I asked them to dress it. The fries are cold and soggy. Also half burnt. The person who took my order was short and rude. I asked for ketchup and did not receive it. Very dissatisfied. I eat at sonic at a minimum of four times a week and I have never gotten this quality of food.

Sonic Drive-In service

The last two times I have been to this sonic service has been horrible. ( 901 SW grand BLVD in OKC) ( near Integris SW medical center) Both times were in the evening around 7pm. I went through the drive through the first visit and was behind a lady that prob sat there a good 3-5inutes before anyone answered her on the intercom, so I decided to pull into a stall. I ordered two kids corn dog meals and waited a good 10 min before we received our food, at which the carhop brought the wrong food the first time and when we got the food the corn dogs were burnt. The last time I went was yesterday and there were no cars in the drive through or the stalls and there were 4 people sitting outside on the table ; of which all looked to be in uniform. When I pulled up to the drive through I sat there for a good 5 min at which no one ever answered on the intercom. I ended up just leaving and going somewhere else and still saw all four people sitting at the table when I drive off. I take my kids by there after I get off work to eat or get something to drink quite often but am disappointed with the service. Have never had an issue with any other sonic before . Just thought I would let you know to help fix the problem.

Thank you

Sonic Drive-In sonic customer service on page on st. louis, mo

I have recently visited the sonic on page in St. Louis, Mo twice and both times I myself or people in front of me have waited in the drive thru for at least 10 minutes or more. No one ever comes on over the intercom even after people have been honking and we can see that there are people in there working. I have driven to order at the car side stations after waiting in the drive thru and after pressing the button still no one comes. The workers were standing outside and chatting with friends. Others were just staring out the window on both occasions at cars that had driven through the lot multiple times wondering what's going on. Another worker pulled a chair from outside to the inside so she could sit down. It's been a bit ridiculous and because of that you guys have lost my business twice. I love sonic, but I probably won't be visiting this one again.

Sonic Drive-In customer service

I was at the sonic drive-in in clarksville, tn on dover crossing. I drove up to the intercom and no one came on. I waited 2 minutes. Finally someone said, "Ill be with you in a moment." I thought that was fine but I waited another 3 or 4 minutes. When she came back on the intercom she was laughing and said, "sorry about that." I asked for a chocolate chip shake for my son and she said quite abruptly and without apology, "we're not serving anymore ice cream today." More laughing... No explanation. This was about 3:00 p.m. on the 26th of July. It seemed to me to be a case of not liking my Trump bumper sticker. Now, I can complain further and to the newspapers or you can help me sort out this situation and find out what was really going on. There was no explanation as to why they weren't serving ice cream. It's up to you. My number is [protected]. Ask for Janet...much thanks

Sonic Drive-In roaches and ants

The Sonic in Rosenberg, TX, in Brazos Town Center area severely needs an exterminator. For instance, when you pull up to the drive-thru window, as I did today, July 26, 2017, you're greeted by a smashed roach and a ton of scurrying ants of some variety, all virtually right next to the window. Very disgusting and not at all appetizing. Some people in my neighborhood, which is fairly near to this Sonic, also complained about this same thing on our NextDoor page. They were urging people not to go there anymore because of all the bugs. So word is getting out there. I would think hiring an exterminator would be cheaper than a ton of lost customers. By comparison, the drive-thru of Carl's Jr., which is right next to this Sonic, had zero bug issues. So, Sonic, clean it up, please! It can't be that hard.

Sonic Drive-In drive thru

I pulled up to sonic restaurant off ridge wood in holly hill Florida. I chose this one because the sonic in south Daytona off ridgewood had young teens working who messed up our order and were chit chatting while we were trying to order. I pull into a drive in spot around 8:35pm. I press the button to order and wait close to a minute. Without pressing the number again, a young black girl comes through saying, "order when you're ready" like she had little patience. I said, "ok? I'll have a brownie cookie dough Minnie." She replied "all right?" With some more attitude and it went silent until I had to speak up and say "ok that's it, thanks" and she replied with a huff and puff "ok?!" I then stated she is "rude as [censor] and I don't want to buy from her." She then said "I can't have my order taken." I have over 10 years of customer service industry experience and have the worst, most rude service at fast food restaurants. This is the first time I've took the time to write a complaint because I'm sick of it. I truly wish I could act like a child with not even an inflection of their voice let alone a greeting of "hi, how are you?", and still get a paycheck at the end of the day. She probably won't get reprimanded but I'm speaking up on [censor] situation which in this industry needs to be fixed. Thank you.

Sonic Drive-In former employee

I recently got a job at the Sonic on parker road in Jonesboro, Ar for a 2nd job on the side. I have had the job for 4 days and quit today because the place is so disgusting and unprofessional. Nobody uses gloves nor washes their hands. Everyone eats the food while preparing orders. There are flies everywhere that land on the fried products and veggies/cheese. Most (not all) of the employees throw food at each other, are flat out rude and very unprofessional. There was even a roach crawling on the ground. I could not work there another day. If there was a random health inspector to show up they would more than likely shut the place down.

Sonic Drive-In I am complaining about the service I received as a paying frequent customer

First let me start by saying I love Sonic I go to my local Sonic at least 3 times a week every week. The past two trips to Sonic has been disappointing. The first trip which was Friday 7/21 I ordered 3 slushes (not during happy hour) 1 mini size, 1 route 44 size, and 1 Medium size. Once I got home I realized I received 2 small slushes and not the medium I paid for. This has happened in the past more than once. Today I went to Sonic and ordered 4 slushes and food. I asked for the onion rings monzarella sticks and chedder and peppers to be made fresh out the oil. When the car hop brung the food 2 of the slushes were flowing over spilling down the cup. Which is very tacky. And the food was not even hot more like luke warm. I asked the hop could she clean the cups that were overflowing and she responded saying there are napkins in the bag. What? are you serious? okay bad customer service no doubt.

Sonic Drive-In horrible immature and disgusting staff

Absolutely horrible service, delinquent teen workers who lack the basic intelligence to get a simple task done within even the most reasonable amount of time. When politely corrected when the order was received wrong they start back talking and mocking the costumer. Takes 7 minutes to get a simple drink while you can see that they are all playing on cell phones and toying around. Absolutely will no longer use this disgusting location ever again. I would not be surprised if the location has a rodent/ vermin problem based on how the staff obviously maintains themselves.

Sonic Drive-In app/menu board

Great app and menu board but employees can not hear when taking the orders. Since the new boards went up this has happened every time. I hear the same issue — to repeat order — from cars next to and around me. Today my order was taken wrong because of this and I had to place part of the order again. Repeating orders is s pet peeve of mine 😡😡 order takers seem to have attitudes — maybe this is why!?

Sonic Drive-In general manager

this general manager is very unprofessional, he is paying his employees some under age, cash under the table to come in on their days off to work, or telling them they must not want their job because they wont come in on their day off. that's like telling someone they will be fired for not coming in. he is constantly calling employees to talk about other employees. this man has been in trouble with previous stores he has worked at. they must not have done a very good back ground check on him. there is no law that says you cant be rude but he is very rude to some of his employees, and treats them differently even though they work as hard as everyone else. my niece works for him and this has just gotten ridiculous

Sonic Drive-In carhop buying selling and using drugs

I was in the process of ordering my food when I caught the glimpse of a sonic carhop pay another woman in a sonic t-shirt fr what appeared to be a baggie with a green substance. The carhop who was allegedly buying weed proceeded to go to her car. After sitting in her car emerged from her vehical and lit up what looked like a self rolled cig. Appearances are deceiving as the smell that iminated from the area was that of weed. This is unbelievable while. I take my childern here. The carhop name was Joleen.

Sonic Drive-In length of time to receive order

I am a loyal patron of your business and feel I have helped a couple of kids finance college. I always tip. My dog is named sonic because a new location opened up in boyd, tx on his adoption day. All that is to say i've seen days when the servers are over run because all the stalls were full and sometimes even waiting for a parking space and have received my order in at most in 10 minutes. On that wait I was give token for free drink. Today I ordered a lg peach yes with extra ice and med. Popcorn chicken at 5:11 pm. St #3051 location in tulsa, ok. There were 9 stalls full. I could see that there were at least two servers and another came on near the end of my visit. At 5:20 I called to be sure order was not lost. They said it was because of popcorn chicken. I received my order at 5:35pm with apology. No offer of discount or free drink. It was 98degrees and my truck doesn't idle well. I turned it off at 5 min and rolled windows down. I feel they were understaffed or someone was talking instead of serving. Whatever the reason service was below what normally is great service. This has happened at least twice if not three times at almost the same time (I get off work and drive there). I really love telling people about your products but this kind of service could hurt your reputation. Just wanted to alert you. I'm a fan forever but your bottom line could suffer as there were 9 people waiting also.

Sonic Drive-In I had bad service

On July 19th 2017 around 9pm my husband and I along with my child went to your sonic in Palatka, FL to get a sonic blast. Ee pulled up to the drive thru where the service started badly. My husband order a prescel dog and employee just took the order and ignored us. So my husband drove up to the curb side and ordeted. We ordered a prescel dog, orso blast and a m m blast. When our order was finished a gentleman came out and only handed my husdand the precel dog and left. We saw a young black female that had a sonic uniform on and we asked her if she can find out where the rest on our order was and she got the nastiest attitude with us. We asked to speak to a manager and no one came out. I walked up to the window and the black female was screaming at the managet. The gentleman that served us came out and wanted to know what needed. I told him I wanted a manager and a refund. The managet came out and as he was coming the black female was still yelling. The manager came out and I explained the problem and he asked who the employee was that I had the problem with and he proceeded to provide me with my refund.

I am a manager at a retail department store and with that type of service and attitude will makr my business loose business. As for the employee attitude to the customer and screaminh at the manager she would have lost her job.

Thank you and I will no long be go to sonic with that type service. That is not customer service. Have a great day.

Sonic Drive-In custard concrete

Went today for national hot dog day. Dinner was fair. Happened to notice customer two stalls down wasnt happy. That male customer just tossed his food right out the window onto the ground once the hopper left back inside the store. After dinner my wife and I ordered a Custard concrete and waffle cone. The custard concete was gummy textured and a WHOLE lot of POWDER. It was awful. Luck behold I'd go and order a large one at that. Some for tonight, other half for tomorrow. It was a cup of junk. Never care to go back to sonic. DQ will have to be the ice cream crave place to go to again. Try sonic for first time in a long time, now realizing why such a very long gap in between for visits to Sonic. Call to get refund on over half filled cup of goo. Instead they want to remake another cup of goo for me again.I don't think so, I'll take my loss.

Sonic Drive-In terrible service

Terrible service on 7/19 around 6pm. No one taking drive thru orders and then attitudes when I drove to the window to ask if their speaker was broken. Was told they are "to busy" and couldn't take orders. I just needed 3 hotdogs and they laughed and said $8 dollars. I reminded him of the $1 day and he came back with correct price. I didn't get receipt or correct change back. Waited almost half an hour. The buns were hard and barely had any chili cheese on them.

Sonic Drive-In 75 minute wait for 3 hot dogs

Today was the dollar hotdog day (7/19/17). I ordered my food at exactly 11:30 according to the short receipt that I still have. I waited for twenty minutes until they announced the screens were down and we needed to turn in our receipts to fill our orders. they continued to take orders and would put the new customer receipts on top of waiting customer receipts. Then they started o just fill orders for customers who had pushed their way tot he front, instead of going by the receipts. I waited 75 minutes to get 3 hot dogs. Ridiculous!

Today is Natl. Hot Dog Day. Your Hwy. 165 S.Monroe, LA [U.S.A.] location was out of hot dogs at 4:15pm c.t. this afternoon. They were out of bread waiting for a delivery truck. I punched the red button twice before anyone answered. I was then told they could not sell me the three hot dogs I wanted. I told them to cancel the order and drove off. Poor customer service and poor management. I guess, by tomorrow, the hot dogs will be selling for $1.99, again. I won't be coming back for hot dogs.

Sonic Drive-In rude workers

One of the workers was waiting on my stall and the stall next to me and me and my daughter had the windows down and heard the worker call the young girl next to me a "fake a** b****" and stopped waiting on her. We sat there for thirty minutes and me and my daughter had received our food but the girl next to me had still not received her order.
I buzzed back in and ordered something small for my daughter and the same worker, who's name tag said Halley, brought it out. I asked her why the car next to me had not received her food and she stayed quiet for a moment then proceeded to tell me that she ordered a chicken sandwich and it takes time to cook.
45 minutes had passed and finally a different worker brought the food out in what looked like a crumpled bag. This was very unprofessional and while that worker was on the clock she should not have done the things she had done.

Sonic Drive-In everything

At a moment in time, I was an employee at a Sonic and I have to say. It is one of the most dysfunctional jobs I mean don't even get me started on the fact that we're always short staffed and that we don't have that much help when it comes to car hopping. And it's even more of a dilemma when working on the fountain. The working environment isn't even that clean. Always have to swat flies away from drinks and then when drinks are made with big holes they simply put a sticker on it and act like it's nothing. And before I was ever an employee I was a customer and I have to say nothing has changed. Still short handed and still don't get orders out on time. Such a dysfunctional place to work I wouldn't recommend working there as your first job or any type of job. It's completely horrible. I hated working there with a passion and whenever I see the same stupid commercials on television I cringe and simply change the channel. Just like they simply put stickers on the blasts and shakes that have holes in them. And they really in a health inspector because the [censor] in there (excuse my grammar) ain't lookin' pretty. (I don't think Chef Gordon Ramsey can fix that s**t).

As far as sanitary goes, it really depends on the store. My store is clean because we have a chores list, but I've seen the inside of other sonics and it really made me lose my appetite. I remember for the longest time I hoped my boss would get fired because he literally didn't promote me from a trainee to a carhop until after 8 months of working there. He said I was "too quiet" and that he wanted me to work on being more outgoing before carhopping. [censor]. The only reason I was quiet was because the other workers were openly racist, SEXist, and I never felt comfortable to be myself around them. The only reason I stayed was because sonic was the only fast food place I knew that was willing to be flexible with my hours (because I had softball games, soccer, AP classes, etc). I don't really have any problems with my managers and assistant managers, but my GM always complains about us carhops not being able to work every single day... even though we all have lives outside of work, which is something a full-time employee doesn't always understand.

Overall, most of my stress comes from the customers.
-"Why does it say $6.29 on the menu but it's $6.83 on the screen?!" (Adding extras like slushes (instead of fountain drinks) and jalapenos to your burger costs extra. But seriously, is it the end of the world that you have to spend an extra 60 cents?)
-"Small water please, that's all!"... that's literally something you can get at your house. Your stopping other people's orders from being delivered, just cause of a 14oz cup of water.
-When customers press the button and don't know what to order. Ahem, the menu is right there. 24/7. Don't press it until you know what you want.
-I said it before, but customers arguing about the prices. We have nothing to do with how things cost, we just abide by them. We're not going to discount your food just cause you think it's overpriced, either take it or leave it.
-"You guys really need to fix these things, it never takes my credit card." That's something to complain to corporate about, not a 16 year old employee. Do you just expect me to take out a screw driver and fix it? If it bother's you that much that you have to wait another 20-30 seconds for the payment to go through, then you need to get professional help for your temper problems. Or you know, carry cash with you, just like what every adult should be doing.
-Customers not tipping on big orders. Yes, tipping is a choice, but so many people don't know how little carhops make. I petition for all carhops to wear t-shirts that say in big bold letters: I MAKE ONLY $4/HOUR
And lastly:
Me: "Is everything on your screen correct?"
Customer: *Doesn't answer*
Me: "I'm sorry, what was that?"
Customer: *Angrily* "YES."
Me: *Takes out order*
Customer: "These tater tots were supposed to be large, not medium.

So overall, I think I'm going to stay just to try to become a crew leader and make more money (and hopefully get more flexible hours), but the customers are what really makes it unbearable sometimes. I now feel bad for customer support people.
