SmartStyle Hair coloring

I went to Smartstyle (store#11676) on Sept 2, 2021. Tammy Ibanez-stylest.
I asked for an all over color, I got hot roots. I asked for highlights around my face, I got full highlights. She used the flat iron trying to make the hot roots look better. I didn't ask for it. She charged me $172.94

After she put the dye on, she set the timer for 45 minutes and did not check my hair. Afterwards she did not offer fixing it, said it was red because of red in the dye. Its labor day weekend and I'm stuck at home because I'm to embarrased to go out.

Desired outcome: I would like a full refund because Ive got to pay to get it fixed.

SmartStyle Service, Leticia

I went to the SmartStyle located in Walmart of Florida City Homestead Florida. I went to have a root touch up. Which destroyed my hair color. She changed my hair color completely. I very satisfied with the results when I called to tell her she said she could fix it but I have to pay for the product and she said for me to pick the color. Her attitude tells me she doesn't know what she is doing. As a result, now I have to pay more to fix the color she ruined. I would like my money back as soon as possible to go a beauty salon which color my hair the color I had. She lefted my hair gray and dull, I paid 300$ to have my hair colored, a color which she destroyed. My name is Patricia this happened Saturday August 21, 2021 around 3 pm. SmartStyle Customer service

I showed up to my 10:30 appointment with the manager and right off the start she was very rude she asked me "what I was there for?" Not a hey good morning how can I help you? I told her I had a n appointment for hair color and she never once brought me to the chair she kept me by the register asking well what you want there's a range of color services and I showed her she automatically shut down my idea instead of trying to offer a different solution. Working in the past in customer service I could already tell by her demeanor she didn't want to do the color regardless what is was! Never again will I go to that branch I felt very under appreciated my money wasn't welcomed! I have brought my kids there for haircuts and same lady with the all over gray has always had an attitude I never like to complain about things because I don't know what they are going through but obviously it's not a temporary problem it's a everyday problem.

Desired outcome: Ya’ll need cameras with sound to hold employees responsible and only corporate managers have access

SmartStyle About your employees

Your employees are leaving the salon open and going outside the door at Walmart #0542 to smoke. Customers are walking in and out of the salon without any of your employees even knowing they were in there. As a customer, I asked for them to move to the smokers tent. None of your employees complied. The attitudes they have are ridiculous.

SmartStyle They fried my hair off with bleach

BROKE AND FRIED MY HAIR "now will need a wig" I went to smart style in Lacey Washington on 1401 galaxy dr ne twice in the month of June 2021 to see the same stylist named Sarah who has been coloring my hair for almost a year now so she knew my hair history. The first time I went in June Sarah messed up on my color as it didn't match my previous grow out color I have pictures of this. so she told me to come back on June 26th so she could re bleach it again. During the second visit she ended up messing up on the process by overlapping bleach on top of my previously double bleached grow out which is negligent because in no way is this supposed to happen because it will cause the hair to totally break where you overlapped the product which is exactly what happen. During the process I told her my hair was looking like it was breaking but instead of washing it off she continued to let it sit on my hair causing half my hair on one side to go from 24inch to 4 inches I have pictures of this as well. Their is breakage all over my head but my right side is the worst And the hair on my head that's left is completely fried past the point of no return. So I ended up going to two different hair stylist at different salons for a consultation on my hair to see if hair extensions could be applied and damage be corrected. Both stylist told me my hair was to weak and would break off even more if they put any kind of hair extensions on me and also told me my hair could never be colored or use heat on it without causing it to completely break off even more hair they also said I would have to completely grow my hair out starting from my scalp because she bleached to my scalp and mite be ear to cut it all over and start over. I shouldn't have to walk around with half my hair missing broken fried and thinning or almost bald if I cut off all the damage due to their negligence. They did admit to their negligence once they saw my hair and refunded my 261$ for the services they charged me when they ruined my hair. but since I now need a wig I'm requesting they pay for wig I'm going to have to wear for 3-4 year before my hair gets back to the way it was before they burnt it and broke half my hair off. I'm requesting nothing more then a wig in the same color length and density my hair would of been before they destroyed my hair. I have emailed the business with the invoice to the wig of that description which is around 1400$ before taxs for the damages incurred by their salon. I received a email back from senior district leader saying the owner of the salon and Business name smart style is list under of KARVID PARTNERS LLC wouldn't cover the wig at all. They instead tried to offer me once a month deep conditioning treatment for 6 months which isn't going to bring my hair back it's fried beyond repair plus I already tried deep condition treatments already and they Haven't helped at all. And a treatment wont fix or replace the integrity length and density they took from me when my hair got destroyed broken and fried off by the salon. I will update this review if they end up doing the right thing and cover the cost of the wig to Cover and fix what they did to my hair. If by chance I have to take them to small claims court I will also update the review if that happens and the outcome hope this review helps you decide if you want to use this salons services.

SmartStyle Supervisor harassment

I am very unhappy with the horrible treatment I have had to endure twice when Supervisor Kacy was in store.

The first time I had the displeasure of dealing with Supervisor Kacy was when I visited my hairstylist (whom is an angel to me) for a cut and color on July 17th. My stylist conferred with Supervisor Kacy about what product to use in my hair (due to a rather unfortunate at home job) and the attitude I received the whole time from the supervisor was one of a condescending manner and that my mere presence was an affront to the supervisor. Though a modicum of what she said may have been true about the damage to my hair, she showed a direct lack of any ability to communicate in any meaningful way. The ire, contempt and disrespect aimed at me by this woman was all but palpable. What stunned me the most was as soon as she turned to speak with another customer it was as if a switch had been flipped and she was jovial and respectful. The entire time I was in the salon I felt such an air of hostility from this woman. I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable. I left with after a deep conditioning treatment and trim.

That brings us to the abysmal appointment I had July 24th. I once again was booked into see my stylist to attempt to even out my hair color. While conferring with another stylist Supervisor Kacy (who I had informed my stylist I wanted nothing to do with per our previous encounter) decided to interject herself again into the conversation about my hair. I chose not to respond to her. The same hostile feeling was in the salon anytime she came near me. After no one spoke to her, she claimed she was leaving to make a "bank run". Roughly 5 minutes after Supervisor Kacy left another manager (The Cost Cutter Supervisor who is named Teri) came storming into the salon, making a direct line for my stylist. After a moment of discussion in the color room the manager came out and spoke to me. After raking her fingers through my hair and acting as if it were going to fall out of my head in massive clumps; she discussed how beyond damaged my hair is, how I have ruined it completely, there is nothing they can do for me, and I must live with my mistake until it grows out. She berated me continuously about the "damage" done to my hair. I have never felt so harassed by 2 women whose opinions I never asked for. I knew she was sent over by Supervisor Kacy.

I feel that both Supervisor Teri and Kacy were harassing me, and cared more about "wasting product" (to directly quote both Kacy and Teri). The actual stylists are phenomenal and wonderful women to work with, but the supervisors leave a lot to be desired. The harassment and disrespect I was subjected to due to these two women make it very hard for me to want to come back to this salon ever again.

I am also extremely disappointed to know that even though I have shared this above complaint with the Smart Style customer line, (though I had to edit it due to a character limit) I have not received any answers or had anyone reach out to me about this incident. I am left to wonder, does this company actually care about its customers?

Desired outcome: The supervisors are reprimanded and disciplined. Taught how to be appropriate to all customers

SmartStyle Service [protected]@ salon in Gardendale, Al

I was at salon on 7/05/2021 for shampoo & style, I am a black woman, she didn't put enough wrap lotion on my hair to mold it down, I had to show her how to wrap my hair, plus it taken the dryer 15 to 20 minutes before it begin to heat up, the services was awful, the salon was dirty, Don't know if she done black hair before, but she in a business that do all types of hair, and if she didn't know how to do it, she should have told me. I have been to other smart style salon, never had any problems, I was visiting for the holiday, so I am due a refund for services not been rendered

SmartStyle Service

I showed up to my appointment Sunday 11:00am for a full color.
The women goes "so are we doing a chop today?"
I said "no a full color, I made an appointment yesterday"
I could tell she was irritated. She said "okay so we're just doing your roots?" I continued to again tell her what I wanted. My hair was a dark brown and all I wanted was a full black color.
She started to paint my head, not even sectioning my hair. She left that on my head for about 25 mins, and then came back and said she was going to pull the rest through my hair.
She took big sections and put my hair between her fingers and rubbed up and down. I've never seen someone use this technique before. Didn't use foil. Still felt like she was rushing.
She then told me she was going to leave the dye on my hair for another 20 min. She didn't put my hair up, or cover it.
She ended up helping another customer and started cutting her hair.
By this point the dye had been on my roots for an hour.
Finally after about an hour and 15 min she came back and washed my hair out. She took only two mins to wash my hair.
I was charged $100. When I went out to my car there was hair dye all over my face and my scalp was burning. I had to run to the bathroom to scrub my face, obviously the dye wouldn't come off completely. It was all over my neck and ears and just TOUCHING my dry hair my fingers and hands turned black from her not washing it out enough.
I am not from the area and didn't get home until later. By this point since the dye had sat on my head for over an hour, and wasn't fully washed out, I now have a chemical burn on my scalp, ears and neck. My scalp feels swollen, I can barely lay on my pillow without being in pain. I rarely get headaches and have had a headache for the past 2 days. Around my face, I have burn patches, my hair is starting to come out around my face and my skin is red and peeling around my face.
Not only am I in pain, but my hair is so dry and parts are falling out. It feels like I just had my scalp reattached. There was no reason for this, bleach wasn't even used. I am extremely upset that this happened and that I spent $100 to be in pain.
I am going on vacation this Friday, which she knew. I just wish I was cared about more. I would like someone to reach out to me to let me know how I can be compensated at the very least. [protected]@gmail.com

SmartStyle Stylist did the complete opposite of what the customer requested, AND I was was overcharged

I spoke with stylist at length about EXACT purple toners I wanted to do in my blonde hair. She & older stylist said that I HAD to have my bonde hair BLEACHED 1st. To get out the brassiness, prior to putting in the PURPLE TONERS (even though 1 of the 2 purple toners indicated that it took out brassiness) i agreed to a small bit of bleach with 10 developer. as I didn't want my hair fried. I arrived for my appointment 2 days later  at 10:30 am I signed consent form & they had WRITTEN /verbalized price of 96.00 on the form

i again ASKED if the bleach was really necessary? She said yes, IF YOU WANT those 2 purple toners. As she applied the bleach, she'd walk away for 15min at a time, come back and apply more bleach...this happened over a period of 45 min. then I sat while My hair was bleaching for 90min, THEN it was QUICKLY RINSED for less than a minute & immediately she added TONER/ DEVELOPER .(without ever washing out the bleach) I asked why she didn't wash out the bleach to deactivate it. She said that's not what's taught in school. While the toner was processing, I asked to see the toner book. As I didn't have a good feeling about what she was doing.
I pointed out the 2 purple toners & said, I hope they will look pretty since the bleach wasn't washed out.
She said.. that's not the toners I'm doing in your hair.
The older stylist told her to use- 2 ash blonde toners (that's what she JUST applied right after the bleach).  I was pissed at this point. But kept my cool.

I'm sitting there at the sink, for 40min. Bleach barely RINSED out before toners/ developers applied...toners I NEVER EVER asked for nor was EVER told about. My stylist was constantly relying on the old stylist for cues in what to do.

The old stylist said, (the ash blonde toners have a violent undertone) i said, i know what ash blonde is. That's NOT what I came in here for. That's NOT what we talked about when you said I HAD to have my already blonde hair, bleached, prior to adding the 2 VERY DISTINCTIVE purple toners.

By this time they both walked in the back. Never once apologizing.  They left me sitting there at length. And my stylist came out and said  

(Oh I'm not done. I still have to add the PURPLE COLOR) 

I said what purple color? I never talked about nor asked for purple color.

Rather, We talked about at length and I asked for purple toners which is WHAT I AGREED TO.
She said, in order for me to get your hair purple. I have to add color.

By this point I was livid. But held it in. Because NOT once whilst there or days later when I returned. Did any of them ever apologize or take accountability for doing the complete opposite of what the client asked for.

They CHOOSE TO DO WHAT THEY WANTED without ever consultanting the client.

She again, quickly RINSED out- not wash-the ash blonde toner and then immediately added the color/ developer.

For an entire 3 hrs .. I Had BLEACH, TONER/ several applications of developer on my hair...never ever had my hair been washed to DEACTIVATE, until closer to 4pm...AFTER THE color. Only then, did I get my hair washed and conditioner left in it for 30min.

My hair was ONLY a light purple tint when WET. (LIKE WHEN YOU USE SHIMMERING LIGHTS SHAMPOO)...IT WAS NEVER EVER PURPLE when dry.  

Not to mention when I went to pay. It wasn't the quoted 96.00 that they wrote on the consent form I signed.

 I was charged over 40 extra $

It wasn't until Tamika (she ONLY cuts my hair) walked in and said she gets a nurses discount. Then my total went to 131.00

That's still NOT the price I was quoted nor signed on consent form.

I went back in to see Tamika barely 5 days later, so she could trim the bleached damaged ends.

And my hair was NOT purple.

Only when she wet it. Was the roots a purple tint as if I had left the shimmering lights.on it.

I told Tamika about my salon experience. I was disappointed that she lacked any concern at all. Never even apologized.

2 weeks in from having spent 131.00 and 4hrs at the salon.

I stopped by to try to let Hayley know that what  she did...my hair isn't purple at all. And I wasn't satisfied.

She looked straight at me. Never asked to see my hair, nor sorry, nor anything related to customer satisfaction. She said nothing.

Now it's been an extra 11days since I tried to talk to Hayley.

And in that 11 days that I told Tamika that I want a full refund. Still hasn't been dealt with.

I didn't get what I paid for. In fact, I got 4 hrs of sitting with a lot of developer in my hair and mushy damaged hair (to this day) 

This was a horrible experience! 

Those stylist need to listen to the customer. Don't go behind the customers back and do what they want (w/o ever consultanting & getting the customers permission) 
Those stylist need to stop over charging.

I want a total refund asap! Rather, they ought to pay me double for the damage they caused my hair!

SmartStyle No service

I scheduled 2 separate appointments on line... One the evening before for 10am and drove for an hour... Received a confirmation text only to arrive to a locked salon with a sign on the window stating "we are short staffed and hours may be different sorry for any inconvenience" so I looked again online and it said first appointment was today at noon so I changed my appointment for noon... Did some shopping and returned at noon only to find the salon still dark and locked! I feel as though I have been taken advantage of by my time and lied to by the company by putting false information on the website allowing me to schedule an appointment then not having a hair stylist available for services as promised... I could have gone anywhere but chose to come there because I have had good service there before but I find this totally unacceptable and unprofessional. As a nurse I have to be there for my patience its my duty and I feel as though I am owed compensation from your company for total disregard for respect for human kind.

SmartStyle Stylist with an attitude and shouting problem.

I set an appointment by phone for the closest ss to me; about a 35 minute drive.

During the call, I wasn't informed of the continued mask requirement, even if vaccinated. So, I arrived without one.

When I learned i'd need one, I was annoyed. Not because I didn't want to wear one, but because I would have brought one if i'd known. I was annoyed that I wasn't informed in advance when setting the appointment.

So, I said I didn't have a mask. This act apparently set off the stylist who condescendingly said "we will give you a mask", like they were talking to a child.

This annoyed me further, so I said to just cancel my appointment and began walking away.

They responded by shouting - loudly and sarcastically - as I walked away. "okayyy! You have a lovely day!". They continued shouting - out into the walmart, for all to hear - as I walked. She was still at it when I reached walmart's exit doors. I couldn't make out anything she was saying by this point, but she was still going at it, with full gusto.

To call this behavior - from the appointment setting, to the shout-fest - unprofessional is an understatement. This was a gross lack of customer service, followed by obnoxious, hysterical behavior by a smartstyle rep.

This is the second time a smartstyle rep has failed to properly inform me of a store policy. The first time was that they were appointment only. That was explained to me with an attitude as well.

How difficult, really, is it to tell someone when they're calling to set an appointment: "just so you know, we do still require masks be worn, even if vaccinated. If you don't have one, we can provide one when you arrive". How difficult could that be to say?

Failing that, how difficult would it have been for this stylist to simply politely say "oh, no worries. We have masks here. I'll get you one when I check you in"... No condescension needed.

Based on the overall rating and the number of complaints filed here, it seems this is just another example of a much larger problem for smartstyle.

Whatever the case, I will not be going to them again.

Desired outcome: Re-train or replace condescending, obnoxious employee.

SmartStyle Service provided on 5/4/2021 Clinton, TN Walmart Salon

Called for an appointment on 5/4/2021 with Stylist Alexander
Appointments given at 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm
Upon arriving told Alexander had to be on a Conference Call and another Stylist would have to do our cuts and styling.
We feel we should have been told this or called back to be told this as, we have dealt with Alexander previously...
Told the Stylist what I wanted as, my hair is all one length except up in a bob in the very back...Told it was her first day as, she was cutting my hair...I am so disappointed as, my hair is anything now but, one length...What a disaster for the Summer Months...
I want a call back to discuss ASAP...

SmartStyle ADA discrimination

Denied service due to unsafe/unhealthy to wear a mask. I was not offered an alternative to receive services and rudely/loudly sent away. This was hurtful demeaning and similar to the backwards policies of the Jim Crow Era. I am hopeful ghat your company does not believe in segregation and casting aside a vulnerable group of people who require a little extra care in this chaotic time. Store number 1382

SmartStyle gift card

On March 5 2021 I used a gift card [protected] (3410) this card had a remaining balance of $10.50. Your card reader was not working with this card so I used an unused card [protected] (2009) which I knew had a $25 bal. The machine would not accept this card either. I paid cash at that time. I went back on4/9 to get another cut only to find out neither card would work as the previous card reader had wiped out all the balances. I am now out $35.50. If you cannot refund this amount I insist you sent me a printout of the dates and services used with these cards as I did not use the funds. I am very dissatisfied

SmartStyle Cancellation and very poor customer service

March 27, 2021

I went into the salon for a booked and confirmed appointment. I had a special event to attend and I was excited about my appointment. I waited for my booking to confirm my appointment. My sister also had an earlier appointment at the same salon as we were both attending an event. When I arrived to the salon no one greeted me. There were only two workers in the salon who informed me that they would not be able to service me today. One worker with a short afro said that her shoulder was sore and she was not going to do any more flat irons on today. The other lady completely ignored me and took a guy and started to cut his hair. No apology at all. I asked why my appointment was confirmed if she could not do it. She talked about how she did not make enough money in front of customers. So rude. I had to leave without any idea of what to do and no sympathy from them. She even pointed to a girl in her chair and said she was the last flat iron she was going to do. It was bogus.

SmartStyle My hair is fried and messed up very bad

Good morning I got a problem I got my done yesterday and the girl was nice but I show her of how wanted my hair and she ends up saying it need to be bleached so she did it twice plus made me stay there for almost 5 hours and my hair came out with orange spots plus two different color blonde plus spots where she left it so long it burnt my head I still didn't get want I ask for after paying almost 200 for it im very very unhappy I want my money because she the only one that works there and I don't want her touching my hair again

SmartStyle Hair dye and cut

On Tuesday 3/16/21 I went in for an appointment at noon with the manager Vanessa smith to get all over silver highlights...I ended up leaving at 7:30 at night it was only supposed to coat 162 dollars and a he was only supposed to trim it also ..she literally fried my hair and put brown and brassy orange colors in my hair..it in is burnt and sry and I have absolutely no blonde in it...this is horrible left my hair looks like rust and on top of that she charged me 244 dollars...I am outraged and want the correct coloring that I was charged for corrected please help me

SmartStyle Hair dying appointment

My friend had an appointment for a hair dye but was refused serviced and was kicked out because she had a disability and needs her trained service dog to be with her at all times in case of a seizure. She was discriminated against and was treated with disrespect and horrible customer service. She has worked for Walmart and been to that salon before

Desired outcome: It is legally required to allow her to have a service dog and should be able to get her hair dyed regardless of whether she has a disability or not.

SmartStyle I was denied service by mattie at smartstyle hair salon in walmart coal township pa march 7 2021

I had a hair appointment March 7, 2021 at Walmart salon smart style at 10 am. I was refused service, told by Mattie that she can not do my hair, no reason, no explanation, she just flat out rudely denied me service. I used this business many times in the past. She ignored me while I stood patiently waiting 25 minutes past my appointment time. She wasn't busy, she was just standing behind the counter. I feel I was discriminated against because of a medical condition, mild Tourette's syndrome, which wasn't even prominent during my long wait. A few quiet tics (hand jerking) is all.

SmartStyle Haircut

I went to Smart Style inside of Walmart in Winchester VA two weeks ago today for a haircut. I thought my request was fairly simple. I have medium length layered hair and I asked to have two inches taken off the layers and the length and to trim my bangs and texturize them a little. What I ended up with is a disaster. It's by far the worst butcher job I have ever had. She cut additional layers in the top of my hair, the layers as well as my bangs are horribly uneven and the top was left long with no layers. I basically have a layered mullet and will be going to another salon today to see if they can fix it. I know I will have to lose a lot more length to repair the damage but I simply can't look in the mirror another day with this mess! I want my money back!

Desired outcome: I want my money back. I spent 19.50 for the cut and $4.00 for a tip.
