turned in a 2016 dodge ram for a new jeep grand cherokee lorado
Jeep Shaver advertised that they will take your leased auto up to 1 year left on it and they will pay it off. I had 4 months left on my 2016 Dodge Ram with 10, 000 miles on it. I took it in to trade up for a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I told them and showed the salesman that my Dodge Ram had a small dent on the side and a tiny hole in the driver's seat. The salesman took it in to inspect it and to make sure everything was OK. After I decided on a car, and mind you, the price they advertised for it was set, they began their game playing and haggling. This is of course so typical of auto dealership. Meanwhile, the salesman who took my car for inspection, came back and said that everything was in order. It passed the inspection. They did not say anything about the side dent or the hole in the front seat. Little that I knew, this was done on purpose.
Once they offered me a different lease price, i started walking out, when they, of course, agreed to the original monthly lease payment.
I asked about my Dodge Ram, and they said, everything was ok, and they will take it in as is.
I signed the lease contract and drove off.
About a month and a half later, I get an invoice from my original leasing company stating that I owe them about $1500.00 for damage on the Dodge Ram. I contacted the leasing company, and told them what happened, they said, I need to contact the dealer, since this wasn't their problem. I called Jeep Shaver GM and talked to him in person. At first he sounded nice and cordial. Once I stated what happened and the cost of the invoice, he declared that they were not responsible for any damages that were on the Dodge Ram. I told him that I was told several times that his salespeople and his inspection department said everything was OK. That it wasn't fair that now I am stuck with a $1500.00 invoice. Had they told me that they were not responsible for that part in advance, and that the car would be sent back to the original leasing company which is the company that decides the damage estimate on the vehicle, I would have never agreed to turn the Ram in and sign the new Jeep lease.
I could have fixed the damage myself and it wouldn't have cost me more than $300 in total, which I was already planning to do upon the end of the lease in August 2018.
Suddenly, the tone of the GM changed and became defensive and curt. Now I was threatening his $pocket book$. I told him, was I told otherwise before signing the lease, I would have never agreed to sign the lease. That's why I said earlier, they do this on purpose. Because, once you sign the lease, it's over. You can not under any law or reason return it. And whatever fees you incur on the returned vehicle is your responsibility alone. They said the Ram was OK and it passed their inspection. They never said, we can't assess damages on the vehicle, it's the original leasing company that does. But, of course, they intentionally omitted that little nugget of information, because, they know if they did disclose it, their lease for the new Jeep will never be signed. They know once you sign the lease and drive off, it's all your responsibility.
I don't think Shaver cares so much about their customer service, reputation, nor, an unhappy and very dissatisfied customer. To them, there is a sucker born every minute. They made their sale at any cost, and that's all they care about!
My advice, stay away from Shaver Dealership all together.
