We've always used Sentry, but the store only had the XFT kind in stock. So I bought it. The first time we put it on, our 85lb Lab freaked out. Snapping at his back, scratching constantly...we thought maybe we scratched him with the application tube. So we did it again this month, very careful to not scratch him. Turns out -- this medicine causes some kind of reaction. Anyone had the same problem? I see the complaints for Sentry XFC, but I hadn't found that many for this one (save a few on Amazon that were spot on).

Currently dealing with french bulldogs very bad reaction after using Sentry Pro XFT bought from petsmart. Hours within application and dog is panting and pacing non-stop, has not sit still for now several hours and cannot do anything except try to sit then get right up and pace around. So sad. Have given one full bath and then dawn area washes after reading this site. Just hoping the poor guy can sleep tonight. He also whined for a while with little whimpers and it is totally heartbreaking.

In the hopes this helps another pet owner that is experiencing what we have suffered through tonight. Our Lab mix experienced a horrible reaction to this treatment; he would cry out with the most painful yelps. This product seems to progress in stages. Earlier he was trying to bite at the application spot so we bathed him with his normal shampoo; it wasn’t until later in the evening the real pain began. We found IMMEDIATE relief with Tea Tree Soothing Spray by American Kennel Club along with Solarcaine *cool aloe followed by draping cold wet towels over his body. Its been a horrid 6 hours of heartbreaking regret from using this product, please seriously consider the reviews!

Terrible. My 7 month old poodle started crying, running, scratching, leaning on one side. I thought she was just hiper. 6 hours later she wouldn't sleep and cry non stop. She sleeps full nights on her own in the bathroom with just the gate on. I live in Canada and bought this in the USA. Not even worth it for me to drive for a refund. I bathed her twice. Gave her antihistamine pill. I hope she'll be ok.

Terrible stuff! I've never had a dog react to topical flea/tick medication. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as some of the reactions I read here, but until we washed it off, my 2 year old pit mix was hyper, running around trying to figure out how to scratch her back and bite at her tail. She barely slept. Bathed her with Dawn and then a gentle aloe vera based dog shampoo. Take this stuff off the market!

Absolutely agree! We also bought the Sentry XFT. Soon after putting on 6 of my dogs 3 of then had a reaction. My 2 lb pug the worst. Panting uncontrollably. Scratching at application sight. Running around like crazy. Totally miserable and in distress. Another one was vert hyper and panting, The 3rd was shaking his head and pawing his ears. We took the first one to the vet after giving her benedryl which did not help. They said the stuff was making her feel like her skin was crawling and burning and itching, They gave her an injection to calm her down and kept her all day to monitor. Even after bringing her home and into the next day she was still panting and in distress. We were told by vet to wash them all in dawn dish washing liquid and lather and rinse 3 times which we did. They also gave the other two a trazadone to calm them down. Those two recovered after a day but the first one was still in distress. We gave her a trazodone and are now waiting to see what happens. I called and reported this to the number on the Sentry XFT box. They were very nice and took down a lot of information. I am to submit my vet bills to them when all is over. Also from toughing our dogs my husband and I got it in our eyes! Felt like a burning scratchy feeling. Eyes got red and puffy. Sentry also took information on on reaction. We flushed eyes with water for a long time as recommended and the next day eyes were fine. This stuff is horrible and needs to be removed from the market.

I feel like we all lost sight of the golden rule: sometimes there's a reason a product is 1/3 the price of the leading brand. My poor Bordoodle who is naturally high strung is going out of her mind after using Sentry XFT. Xena is sensitive to food and has a fast metabolism but this product is pure torture! She is literally pacing uncontrollably and scratching and biting at her tail area. I've given her a full bath, and two 'sitz baths' focusing the tail area (the last with Dawn soap) and I've now given an antihistamine in the hopes that she can get some relief. Its been 4.5 hours and I've seen no material change even with the baths and now the antihistamine. I will post again in the morning. My only solace is I have not read of any fatal reactions (as yet), and I'm hopeful I won't find any. If they are going to leave this on the market, a warning label would be helpful. (Xena's mate, a [censored]zu/Lhasa mix has not had the same reaction, but he is beginning to show some anxiety...)

Me again... now the [censored]zu is freaking out. The Bordoodle is still frantic, and its been 8 hours and 3 baths. This stuff is poison (well, duh...) but they really should have warnings in caps for dogs. What a waste. I only hope it clears their system quickly...

terrible product...i used on my 25 pound terrier mix and he became super restless and vocal. I ended up giving him a bath and tried to wash it off. He is better today but still slightly lethargic and trying to scratch at the area where we applied it.

I put this product on my 3 yo 65 lb lab last night at around 8:00pm. Woke up at 2:00 because dog was panting heavily. went to let him outside and he is walking like as if he was drunk, stumbling around. Got up at 6:00 and he was much worse. he has having constant tremors and could barely get to his feet. Got on the phone with the vet, gave the dog a bath and got him in to their office. He is there now (as I type this post). He has gone into a full seizure with a 105 degree temperature. Vet has him sedated, catheterized and on steroids. I apparently got some of this on my face, because I feel like I have been pepper-sprayed. I have washed several times and its not stopping.

I went out and bought Sentry Pro XFT and it has been the worst decision I've ever made! I applied this to my Maltipoo and it seemed to work fine, a couple hours later his back kept twitching uncontrollably and it was obvious he was uncomfortable. He constantly scratched at his back where I applied the treatment so I gave him multiple baths with dawn soap. I feel so bad for causing so much suffering towards my poor baby it brings me to tears! I gave him Benadryl in hopes it'll ease his irritation. If it does not get better by the morning I am definitely taking him to the vet. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT buy this product for your dog it is pure poison!

Put this on my 1.5 year old 65 pound catahoula leopard plot hound mix and immediately he began freaking out, scratching, moaning, and couldn't sit still. I researched this product and found nothing but horrible reactions. I washed him with Dawn, gave him benedryl and am still worried. The vet is my next stop...i feel terrible for giving my dog this.

We too are the most recent victims of this Sentry Pro XFT product. I have a 4 year old female boxer. Gave it to her in the evening. She was up all night shaking her head and pacing. She also potties in the living room floor which is not like her. By early morning, her ears and head were swollen and hot. Took her to the vet and she got a steroid shot and suggested putting her on Benedryl for the next few days. Had to take her back 4 days later because she had severe blisters in her ears. They gave her another shot and oral steroids. It's now been 9 days, and she has bumps all over body that make her short hair raise its so miserable to watch her. Going back to the vet in two more days for follow up. This company needs to be sued! If you care about your pet...DO NOT USE SENTRY PRO or any other over the counter flea meds. They are toxic. Use only veterinarian prescribed products.

I have used this product and both my dogs (1 over 100 and other just about 40) had the same reaction of twitching on their back...My larger dog has had this since I put the product (2/28/2016)on where the smaller dog has now some relief BUT I will say, a few months back I also tried BIO and OMG even worse. My large dog had a reaction as if it were pins and needles all down his spine (coming from the company) Shampooing in DAWN does help but we had no sleep for 3 weeks. So I am very discouraged to put any of the products on my dogs and try collars...My little dog ended up with a tick about 4 months ago (dec 2015) so I felt I had to put something on but we are putting on a pesticide. I cant see any good with these products and am lost as what to do.

Yes I bought this medicine and I used on my dog, she is 21 pounds, oh my gosh I don't know what I can do to help my sweet pet, she is eaching and acting crazy. I gave her several shower after all and it does not stop.. I called the [protected] in case of emergency and she told me to give her a bath with detergent, so I did when the water hit her skin once she is white shows clear the skin is really red and in some areas the skin came off. I want to know what we should do in this case with this company. Piece of crap of product SENTRY PRO XFT...

My boyfriend has a labradoodle and he bought Sentry Pro XFT that was on sale at Cabela's.This medicine was designed for dogs her weight. Hours after applying this flee medicine she became hyperactive, panting, showing signs of being distressed and could not sit still for one minute. As time went by these signs increased and he informed me he used flee medicine. I immediately went on line and found this sight and realized she was having a reaction to this medicine. It is now 12 hours later, after calling the emergency # on the box and informed only a bath in Dawn or dishwashing liquid would help because it is an oil base medicine, she is still pacing, distressed, panting, agitated, biting at herself. She is worn out and trying to lay down to rest and not able to. We are watching her for the night and extremely upset this product was left on the market. I called and said GET THIS OFF THE MARKET IMMEDIATELY so another dog does not have to go thru this. We are so upset she is going thru this terrible reaction.

Yesterday at 10 am I applied Sentry pro XFT to our 35 pound spaniel. By 6pm than evening It was like she was trying to get out of her skin. We gave her a bath to remove this HORRIBLE PRODUCT. At 3am that night I read all these complaints, so back into the tub with Dawn, and a 25 mg. Benadryl. After about 30 min. She was finally able to sleep. Its now 8AM and she is still sleeping when she awakes its back into the tub. I can't see how Petsmart can continue to sell this product! Robert in Smithtown NY

Below is a copy of the review I had written on Sentry's web site for this product. Received an email back the next day that they won't post this as it didn't meet their web site guide lines. Go figure if you rate something bad they just won't post it! Its been 2 days now and my dog is still having issues.

Heading: Deadly for your pet also
Purchased product and on put it my dog in the evening. About 2 hours later my dog was sick, whining, restless, panting & was up all night. Called our vet the next morning and was told a high percentage of dogs have a bad reaction to this product and to never use again. Checked this out on the web about problems with this product and there are 1000s of complaints with the same issues. If you care about your pet, check it out first before you purchase this product. And believe the complaints as they are true. After checking it out I can't believe it's still on the market and neither can my vet.

My dog is just fine using this product, yes, he runs around and rubs his face along the carpet as if he's trying to get something off him.BUT he reacts the same way after I give him a shower or treat for mites in his ear. Which mites I had only treated twice in 4 yrs. Anyway, I'm think with any product you will have those that over react and I read nothing that supports their claim even from those who said they took their dog to a vet or emergency vet. Meaning they didn't include a vet diagnosis. They only stated that the vet treats the dog by either recommendations of Benadryl or relaxing type med. No quote from their vet saying "yeah, sentry flea application will kill your dog" . I'm sure pets can have a reaction to this product as any other product. Always an underlying cause or issue.
I'm sure some will not like what I have typed. The great thing about this type of out let is so everyone can read open minded and take all information an make an informed decision. And more importantly, use solutions from here to help (like rinse w/ dawn dish soap and or give appropriate Benadryl) should your pet experience any same symptoms or issues.
Thank you for all who posted your experiences and issues.

Wish we'd seen these reports before applying this poison to our 22 month Englush Cream Golden Retriever! He had all the symptoms that gave been reported by others! It's been 14 hours since application and he appears to be less agitated after bathing with Joy detergent. His respiratory system is speeded up, he now just occasionally spasms, scratches, and bites at himself. Wondering why this is still on the shelves! Returning it to Pet Smart tomorrow with a complaint!

Bought this for my boyfriends boxer, Chelsea, and after we applied the product as a preventive four hours later she was pacing, biting at herself, scratching and eventually whimpering like she was in pain. Called the number on the box and the lady said to bathe 3 times with dawn dish soap and the. Use vitamin e oil and cold compresses. 2 days later and the poor dog is still not well and obviously very uncomfortable. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT shouldn't be on shelves. Period.

This is the second month I put this on my 12 pound 1/2 chi 1/2 italian greyhound mix. Within minutes he starts to frantically get it off my rubbing on his sides. 20 minutes later - all of his food, a lot of vomit. 25 minutes later, loose stool (to be fair, he did have diarrhea 1 time the day before so it may or may not be related). He is totally lethargic now...2 hours later. I bought this because it said GENTLE for small breeds. Obviously ETOPHENPROX and PYRIPROXYFEN are too toxic! I bought SHOO tags before for natural (no pesticide - 0! ) protection but I got scared because I did not put the flea tag on 24 hours before his play group. He also hated the Vectra my veterinarian prescribed before. I don't know what to try next if SHOO doesn't work. I feel horrible all these pesticides nearly have my dog out of commissiion for the day so he can have relief for a month. I don't want the issue to get progressively worse. Vectra and Sentry Pro XFT are rancid.

I'm so disgusted with this product. I put it on my 25lb cocker spaniel and within 24 hours she was going crazy. It's so difficult to watch her trying to scratch her back and tail; pacing around and shaking. How can a company put this garbage on the market with good conscious? Shame on you!

After applying it to my 100lb lab his back was very sensitive and it itched badly. A month after application and trying to wash it off of him it finally quit bothering him. I will never use again. I've never had a problem with frontline so I will stick with that brand.

We just spent the last 48 hours (not to mention several hundred dollars) making sure our cocker spaniel lived through the application of Sentry Pro. He paced for hours, panted profusely and seemed like he was trying to crawl out of his skin. It was one of the most painful things we have ever watched. He spent an entire day at the vet, on an IV drip, trying to get this toxic crap out of his body. We never used a Sentry product before ... thought we'd give it a try since it was less expensive. Instead we ended up essentially poisoning our dog. How is this stuff still on the market?!?!?

I totally agree with everyone! This product should NOT be on the market! I treated my Tux with this at approx. 7pm. By 9 he was scratching at his hind quarters, trying to reach the itch. I wasn't thinking anything of it, he's a Boston and they are funny little buggers...He's also been pacing and licking his front paws and is VERY thirsty! I woke up around 2 am, as he was restless. My mind starting working and to the web I go! I'm absolutely OUTRAGED this product is still available! I must say, I should have researched it first! I'm really upset It lead to discomfort of my best friend! I'm an avid FRONTLINE user in the spring-fall months, but of course... I see a sale for this product at PetSmart... Low and behold, this stuff is basically poison! Don't risk it to save 10 bucks! BUYER BEWARE! I'm going to give him some Benadryl and keep an eye on him! I've bathed Tux 2 times now with Dawn and that has seemed to calm him down. I sure hope this is just a lesson learned on my end, and not a major problem for my boy! : / PLEASE don't buy this "PRODUCT"! THIS MUST BE REMOVED FROM SHELVES !

Bought this product from Petco and the moment we put it on our 60 pound dog he started acting up...miserable, scratching, restless...poor thing got no rest. We assumed it was safe because Petco carried it and left it on him for three days. We finally did our research and were horrified by the complaints on the internet. We gave him a bath using very gentle, non chemical baby shampoo and he's a little better but still restless and scratching and I am hoping it's just because his skin is still so sensitive. I can't even stroke his back gently and he's in distress. I have made a formal complaint to Petco and they got back to me immediately (take the product off the shelves PLEASE) and warned everyone on Facebook about it. Will be following up with Twitter. Not that this means anything but we are in the film business and have HUGE followers on both Facebook and Twitter and our friends will use their celebrity status to draw attention to this problem. The company who manufactures this should stop making this product. We are boycotting every product they make and spreading the word. They are heartless...if money and profit is all they understand then a pathetic bottom line will match the pathetic product they put out! Just sayin' is all!

I used Sentry Pro on my 100lb, 17mo old, American Bulldog yesterday (5/3/2014). It took him about 15 hours before he started showing any symptoms that were noticeable/different. Now he has become hyperactive with severe agitation, including pacing and licking/biting, scratching of the application site and all over his body. He has shown signs of disorientation and has been having muscle spasms. He can barely lay still and is continuously twitching his leg when he does. I don't anticipate he will be doing any sleeping tonight. I already have a vet appointment in two days, but if he is still doing badly in the morning, I will take him in as a walk in. I will never buy this product again. I wish I had done my research on this one before switching from my regular flee med, ParaStar Plus.

This product sent our New 5month old Golden Retriever on a trip that was absolute "TORMENT" both to this precious little guy and to us with MUCH Yes way to much emotional Pain to which Sentry should be "Fined" and brought to justice regarding
all the emotional stress they put upon their Customers? You all need to write and tell your story so other precious dogs don't have to suffer this same fate or even "DEATH!

I was told by someone who worked at Petco that the Sentry brand was just as effective as frontline, but much cheaper. I decided to buy it. I had given it to my dog (26 lb/ jug / 1 1/2 years) that night (Friday) before bed. He immediately started acted strange. He was moving his body in bizarre ways, stiffening his legs, curling up his body, flapping around, all while whimpering. My fiancé and I started freaking out. We put him right in the tub and washed him off. He was still crying and wouldn't calm down. I called the emergency vet service, who directed me to wash him with dawn soap (which we had) and then with an oatmeal shampoo the following morning. It was a restless night and even worse morning (Saturday). I took him right to the vet. Our vet treated him with a shot to try and counter-act the reaction and sent us home with steroids. Our vet said he has seen so many dogs & cats get sick and/or die from using Sentry products (& Hertz - especially cats). He told us because of the overwhelming number of animals who have a bad reaction to this product, the company will refund you and pay back your vet bills. I didn't find this comforting. If that many animals are getting sick, why is still on the shelf? The next day, my dog was even worse, showing - seizure like symptoms and a lot of diarrhea. Because it was Sunday, we rushed him to the emergency room. We talked to the staff on the phone while on our way and they were waiting at the door when we pulled up. They took my dog right back. The emergency room said it was one of the worst allergic reactions that they had ever seen. They actually wanted to keep him over night but we decided to leave really late Sunday night and return Monday morning. We had a follow up with our regular vet 3 days later. My dog wasn't quite himself for weeks. I contacted Petco and let them know about my experience. I also contacted Sentry - I wasn't so nice - but they did refund every vet and emergency bill after I sent in receipts. They even refunded the cost of the oatmeal shampoo. Please advise friends and family to never buy Sentry products!

Thank you all four pawed parents for saving our dog! We had always used Frontline, but my husband tried to save $ at Petsmart by buying this product. If it wasn't for all your advice in reference to symptoms as well as remedies (Dawn & Benydryl), we may have lost our beautiful girl Avril (100lb Lab mix rescue). Keep up the great work & hopefully we can get this hazardous product off the market before somebody loses a cherished member of their family!

Wow..the one time I didn't do the research on a product, before use. Bought the Sentry Pro XFT and within 12 hours saw problems, disorientation, hiding in a closet, digging at the carpet, all behavior never seen before with a 1.8 year shepard. Well, 3 baths, doses of bendedryl, a trip to the vet for an IV, and a steroid shot later...she's doing better.

We have had a similar experience with our 2 dogs. One is a 9 yr old Chocolate lab and a 11 mo old German Shepherd. We were doing our routinely flea and tick medication and about an hour later our older dog was lying down and could not get up he tried a few different times and just kept collapsing. He was unable to stand on his legs they were like jelly. Once he finally could stand he was all over the place very agitated and running into the walls. He was drooling and messing on the floor. He also was shaking so uncontrollably we thought he was having a seizure. We immediately put him in the tub and gave him another bath as we thought it must be the flea and tick medication. We washed him repeatedly and laid him down in his bed as he was unable to stand for very long. He eventually came out of it but he was uneven walking for a day after. Our younger dog didn't have the same experience. He did however have a reaction and was panting heavily and was scratching uncontrollably we bathed him as well. My husband contacted the place where we purchased this product and they advised they will have to email the company (Sentry) in order to get a refund for the product. We are NOT happy with this company and believe that NO ONE should use this on their pet!

I couldn't agree with all of these comments more! My ShihTzu has been biting at his tail and itching his whole body like crazy for 16 hours now. His whining and crying is torture to listen to. I have done the recommended bathing but that offers no relief. The only thing that calms him down is if I rock him like a baby by bouncing my arms up and down, but I can only do that for so long. My Dad research this product after I called him at 4am balling and he found that that main ingredient beginning with CY is a neurotoxin (the name itself is frightening) and that once it is absorbed through the skin it spreads to every nerve ending in the body and this creates a tingling and [censored]ing sensation similar to when your foot starts to wake up after having fallen asleep. This product ASOLUTELY needs to be taken off the shelves! This product is ANIMAL ABUSE!

I wish I would have read these comments sooner. I had just applied this product on my border collie /aussie shepard mix and she right away starts itching. At first I didn't think anything of it because she was scratching at her side the is still healing some from a dog attack 1 month ago. She also has very sensitive skin. After reading all this I am giving her a bath. Also tip for anyone else who is going through this give ur dog a bath with a shampoo made by Avoderm. Once the dawn baths are done use this shampoo its great I use it on Aussie all the time for her sensitive skin.

I have a nine month old Boxer and put the Sentry Pro on him and he is just miserable. This product needs to be taken off the shelves. If you really want to help get it off the shelves you need to call poison control [protected] and report what the effect is on your dog. Please do not let another dog go through this, they feel a tingling [censored]ly sensation, almost like someone is rolling needles on you. This is what poison control told us when we called.

Had a terrible experience with this product. I decided to purchase this product at PetSmart, since it was on sale; I regret doing that now! I applied the product to both of my 4 year old 60lb Lab/Rott mix at 8pm. Around 1am my male dog began panting, scratching, agitated, just acting crazy. I called the 800# for medical advice, they said to bathe dog in Dawn three times and apply vitamin E on his skin to help relieve the irritation. I bathed him three times with Dawn, he his now sleeping. I hope my other dog doesn't have a reaction, so far she hasn't. I filed complaint with company and I will be taking this product back to PetSmart for refund. This product should be taken off market, no dog should go through such pain and discomfort!
