Billing and Collection Practices
I signed up for a membership with Wilderness Unlimited. If you choose the option to make payments on your first year, this is "serviced" by Universal Account Servicing. And I use the word service loosely. Around the first of the month, I receive a statement with the due date of the 15th. I usually have a week to ten days to make the payment. I send in a payment and then within days after the due date (usually 2-4), I start receiving "collection" calls stating my account is past due. I then receive a late fee charge on my account. I started sending my payment in certified mail, but still receive these harassing collection call stating my payment is two, three or four days late. The customer service representatives are also rude and argumentative and do not attempt to resolve the issue or listen to what you are attempting to tell them. If you make a payment by check, they WILL move it through their process and credit your account after the due date and then charge you a late fee. This is fraudulent and borderline criminal. Not to mention the non-stop harassing telephone calls. I have attempted to resolve these issues and get answers to no avail. When you call, you get the constant run around from less than helpful and mostly rude representatives. Forget sending an email. The address listed on their website gets returned as undelivered and that the mailbox doesn't exist. USE CAUTION! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ANY COMPANY THAT USES UNIVERSAL TO SERVICE YOUR ACCOUNT. This simple convenience Wilderness Unlimited offered has turned into an expensive nightmare
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
not accepting payment to maximize finance charges
I joined with a coaching group that helped me do well on eBay. I paid a lot of money upfront. There was less than $1, 000 to be financed. so the coaching group used Universal Account to collect the rest of the financed money. So, Universal Account gave me monthly bills for a few months and things were fine. I paid OVER the minimum for those months.
In December, I made a payment w/ my credit card. But I had NO intention of continuing little credit card payments. Universal Account Servicing, LLC ignored repeated requests to send a billing statement, and proceeded to add insult to injury by lying about sending those billing statements to me. Universal SENT NO billing statements from 12-12-2012 through Feb., 2013. When I called, I was lied to as they told me they "sent a billing statement". Numerous times there was no customer service, after following directions to press certain numbers, I was shunted to their voicemail. UNIVERSAL NEVER CALLED BACK !
& all the while, Universal took payments where a vast majority of the payment went for the finance charge and a tiny percent went to pay principle. ALL THIS WAS DONE TO MAXIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF FINANCE CHARGE THEY WOULD GET !
Finally, on [protected], I spoke once again to customer service. I relayed my urgent concern about not being allowed to pay off the balance owed to UNIVERSAL.
ON THAT DAY, ONCE AGAIN, I WAS LIED TO !
A woman @ Customer Service, took my credit card number, my expiration date, my 3 digit security code. She promised me that with that information Universal Account Servicing would be paid in full. I was going to receive a confirmation letter that it was PAID IN FULL.
THEN I RECEIVED THE LETTER IN the exhibit photo. They lied about taking my payment !
TO THIS DAY, UNIVERSAL IS STILL CHARGING ME A FINANCE CHARGE !
Observe the picture ! It states, "please call the office at [protected]", now why do I have any reason to do that if they have lied repeatedly and refuse to take the money I offered them? ! ? ! ?
They don't want to do anything but maximize the amount of finance charge against me.
Ok, I am here to formally say that my issue with Universal Account Servicing is resolved.
I received a call b/c they saw this very site. I thought that it would be impractical to sue, and it would cost money to file w/ BBB. I think that money was made from the finance charge and made excessively. However, it is not worth my time to fight for less than $20 that occurred.
This matter is currently over since they actually sent a letter indicated I have paid IN FULL.
Thanks for the response, but what is CMRRR?
