Heartland Ecsi Complaints & Reviews

Heartland EcsiHigh payment processing fees

If you don't want to draft your payment out of your bank account (I rarely do this with companies to avoid mistakes and overdrafts) it costs 1.95 plus over 3% of whatever your payment is to process the payment. This month I paid $4.16 to process my fee. This is absolutely ridiculous. I'll be paying this off ASAP to avoid giving these scam artists any more money.

    Heartland Ecsistudent loan payment fees

Heartland ECSI is currently charging me a 'convenience fee' of $5.74 to make an online payment of $120.00. That is almost 5%! When added to the interest rate of 5.00% on the original loan, the 'convenience' of paying online results in a total interest rate of 9.56%.

When I inquired about the fee, the online customer service representative explained that the processing company ECSI uses charges 3.95% (which is outrageous) and ECSI adds a $1.00 charge to that. It turns out that ECSI is owned by Global Payments Inc. (NYSE: GPN), which is a "leading worldwide provider of payment technology services that delivers innovative solutions driven by customer needs globally." In other words, they are their own credit/debit card processing company!

The 'convenience' interest rate approaching 10% is not very convenient for me. In addition, the ECSI website is needlessly obtuse and among the most archaic and dysfunctional I have seen.

I have canceled all online and automatic payments with ECSI. Too bad, those options are really helpful for managing my other student loans. Instead, ECSI will receive paper checks, subject to the availability of paper envelopes, U.S. Post Office stamps, and my time to go to a mail box.

I plan to send a copy of this complaint to the Director of Student Aid at the school that received the funds from the loan. Current students should consider the wisdom of accepting ECSI loans at the higher, de facto interest rate.
