Coastal Readers Service Cindy Deaton

When I was contacted by these folks from this company I was under some strong medication that had my incoherent. I really have no idea to what I actually said to these folks BUT I do know that I called them on February 6, 2012 at 4:56pm eastern time and talked to Ms. Amber who was very unwilling to cancel these so what called agreement. I am not a wealthy woman and the bills I have leaves me with very little to buy gas and food to get back and forth to the doctor and to work when I am able. SOMEONE really needs to put stop to this type of scam, rip-off, illegal unsigned contracts these scam artist have going on. I was also told to get my finances in order and call them back in two months and I could get the bill reduced to a smaller amount but that still sets fire to my thoughts of how they are still trying to rip me off. I just want this account, expense, whatever you want to call it DELETED by law or by them just doing the RIGHT thing.

Hi there!
This unfortunately happened to my boyfriend as well. They told him he had signed up for some time of promotional subscription years ago (they had his old address etc). They told him the promotional period had been over and they had been sending the magazines to his old address and he was locked in contract and had to pay. He argued he did not sign up for this and they threatened him with legal action if he did not give his information. He was scammed into it. As soon as he told me about it I began research. I advised him to cancel his current card # with his bank and advise them of what happened. ***NEXT IS THE IMPORTANT PART... THIS WILL GET YOU OUT OF THIS SCAM OF A CONTRACT and get their scamming ways noted! PLEASE file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau! They will take the matter into their hands and give the company 30 days to respond. We did this and the company relinquished ALL charges and cancelled the account. I refused to attempt to even talk to the company themselves for fear they would use recordings to further manipulate this so called contract we had. Please file with the BBB. You can also file with your State attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission to get the word out. It doesn't take long and hopefully with enough people doing so it will shut crappy people like this down! Don't back down! Do NOT pay them a dime!

Coastal Readers Service Scam

They are saying that I have a subscription when them and when I tried to cancel, they told me it was impossible and they lowered my monthly payment from $68 to $39 and that I should try calling again in a few months, 3-4, and try to pay off what I owe and cancel. When I looked into may back account, I noticed that $68 dollars was taken out and then just recently an extra $5 today. I'm a college student with a low paying job and I need to get this to stop. I realized this was a scam while I was on the phone and the same number tried calling me. . They say they are from Coastal Readers Service in Dallas, TX, but why would they be calling me from Maryland, Vermont and other area codes. They call me constantly. I'm desperate to get this to stop! I have loans and bills I need to pay! If you can help me, please let me know!

I too have been getting calls from this company and they have information on me as well. However, I tried cancelling this morning when they called me and told me it was impossible as they had put a down payment on the magazines. I told them, as a College student I do not have that kind of money and they lowered my payment and suggested that I call back in 3-4 months and try cancelling then by paying some money. I don't know what else to do.

Same complaint as others against this company. I had red flags going off during the call and ignored them. They had personal information and part of my credit card number. After the call I tried to call them back and was told via answering machine that it was after hours. I have seen some of the comments and will attempt to cancel this. If anyone has further advise please contact me!

Coastal Readers Service Customer Service

I called the [protected] customer service number to cancel my subscription order because my employment is now only part time and my hours have been cut. Since I now cannot afford the subscriptions, I ask to cancel my order. The customer service representative I spoke with, Brian, argued with me and said there was nothing he could do. I explained the situation and told him that if he refused to cancel the order that I would have to stop the payments. He continued to argue with me. This is very inappropriate behavior for a customer service rep. I told him to give me the name of his supervisor and he told me, then ask to put me on hold. Instead, he should have immediately transferred me to a supervisor. This indicates his desire to talk to the supervisor first. All I was asking was to stop service. This should have been a possible action. Instead, I received the run-around.

Coastal Readers Service Fraud

This company contacted me in December 2011. Short Version: They called Said I ordered magazines wanted to confirm cc information. I said I did not order any and hung up. Now the phone calls became relentless. For personal reasons I wont say why, but I got scared, flustered and easily confused. gave info to prove I was not who they were looking for. Big Mistake, I know so don't bother responding to that. I realized this was the company that had been calling my number these past weeks and not leaving a message on the recorder. Now realizing my mistake I called them back, like 5 min after hanging up, told them who I was, what happened and I wanted stop or cancel anything that was done on my cc. They refused, said I could not cancel, would not tell me their name, started yelling and threatening me, then hung up
I cancelled CC. One month later I get a bill for 39.90 or the full amount of $1157. I never gave an order for magazines and have not received any magazines. I filed a complaint with Texas Attorney General, My state attorney general, BBB, FTC, and US Post office. The company president is Vincent S Haydock, out of Florida. We have the right to cancel any subscriptions and they know that. They wont let you until the time limit runs out. I believe I can prove intent to cancel. But what I believe and what the law says can be two different things. Seems like the law protects these ###. Has anyone else stood up to these bums. Made them stop. Has anyone had debt collectors call or had their credit ruined because of this. Please let us know why they got away with an obvious scam. File complaints with the above entities, also with the National do not call list if you are on it. One more thing, when they call and I do reverse phone checks, the phone numbers go to different cities in different states. No telling where they are really calling from. Small claims is next, if it applies. Still looking into it. Dont give in!

I signed up for the magazines with the understanding that I was to receive a "free" $1000 gift card from Walmart and also assorted restaurant gift cards, which I have not received! When I attempt to call them I am told they know nothing of said offer. I should have known this had S C A M written all over it! I have had to closeout my bank account to avoid them from taking any more money!

Today my son called the Interstate Recovery Service because the Coast to Coast turned it over to them for collection. When he called a woman answered as Mrs. Johnson. That is all, not the company name. He told her he had been contacted by them to collect the magazine bill. She told him she would cut the bill from$942.30 down to $475.90 and another $100.00 today if he would give her his charge card number. Wow. Give the card number to them? How dumb.
He called The BBB and They said the interstate Recovery Service is a real company And if he thinks it is his bill he needs to pay it.
What do we do. I think all of it is a scam.
Cost to Coast sent in the bill to the Recovery Service as being a different name. It is Preferred Renewal Service. What is going on and what can we do about it.? Has anybody gotten the bills turned over to a collection company? Thank you for any help.

This happened to my son. They are now trying to get more money out of him again. He also tried to cancel it all but they said he waited too long. He got the notice after the time to cancel.
They took money out of his account . I don't know how much. He finally cancelled the card. And now they can't get any money out of it. He still gets letters saying he will be sued if he doesn't pay the money owed.of $319.20
I say just ignore it.. But I'm not sure what to do.
This is a scam. And then he has another Coast to Coast Renewal Inc. That is the same. The two letters are the same in every way. They want $942.30.
I know they won't get any and I don't think they want to sue anyone in a honest court. But I wish I knew what to do. They are wasting their money sending these letters.

I had the same problem with Coastal Readers. They ran an ad on facebook saying you could take a survey on your political views and then the results would be published on a national news format. Next thing I knew I was signing up to get magazines and had given them a credit card number. I recently got a bill in the mail for $1797.00 to be paid monthly for 30 months and that they planned to bill my card. Long story short, I wound up calling my credit card company and getting a new card with new account number. I am researching these crooks and if I hear from them again I will be better prepared. I checked with the Better Business Bureau and they have had 46 complaints filed against them. I don't think they want to sue anyone in court.

I find it driving me mad, trying to deal with recordings in place of real live people. I have been trying for 2 weeks to cancel my insurance policies with a very well known insurance company. The very reason I cancelled was not getting to speak to a live person in the first place.

Speaking of Walmart, I agreed to do a survey to win points and get a $1, 000.00 gift certificate from Walmart. I did everything necessary including talking to salespersons who actually called my home and spoke to me. They were from various companies affiliated with the coupons from the surveys that I took. My phone rang at all times of the day and night. I never did get the $1, 000.00 gift certificate. So beware and be a little smarter than I was. You really do get nothing for nothing.

Somehow I got a subscription with this crappy service, they are telling me I owe $49.90 every month for 36 months. They send me magazines including: ESPN, GQ, Maxim, Mens Fitness, and a few others. I DID NOT ask for any of these magazines, let alone, I don't even read any of these magazines!

I just got a letter in the mail saying my account is past due, has the past due and current amount of $49.90, the total amount due of $114.80, and a payoff amount of $1, 397.20. HOLY CRAP! I OWE HOW MUCH?! I had to cancel my bank account so I could get away from this scam! Every time I talk to someone, they say I cannot cancel because I am "locked in" for 36 months! On the bottom of the letter it says "Sincerely, Account Manager". There is no name, so I don't even know who I can talk to so I can cancel this crap! There is no website for me to manage my account, and EVERY legitimate company has a website and lets me manage my account!

Coastal Readers Service Lied about magazine service after pressure to take subscriptions

First, I was told I had to continue subscribing to the magazines that I have not been getting and I told them this. I said I wanted to cancel any magazine order of any kind with them. The man said I COULD NOT CANCEL! I told him I was retired and he said he could reduce the price for a shorter period of time. He said I had already paid for 2 years which was half of the 4-years of the contract and so it would not be the $1197.00 amount. I really got upset and he threatened me with the fact that if I did not give him my already-on-file credit card number, he would make the amount go to the original amount. I was so upset I did give him my credit card number. I was under pressure and was really upset. He went over the magazines I was to get, but when I received the list of magazine list, there were only 2 that I had mentioned. They lied about the magazines I was to be getting. I was on the phone for 33 minutes and by that time I was really upset. I told him several times I wanted to cancel and each time he threatened me.

They told me I would have to be recorded and what to say so they could cancel. At the time I new in my heart it was a scam. One week later, Today in the mail from them it says I should pay them $1.797.00! I called and told them this was a scam and I would be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and that I thought at the time of the phone call that It was a scam So I also recorded the call. They canceled every thing and said they would return the $59.99 that was taken out of my Card already. Hope they do ! I will call the BBB today.! How are they getting our card numbers? And If they have it who else has it. Cancel Cancel Cancel that card!

Okay guys, I have finally beat these ###. I wanted to wait for proof before I posted anything. When they tell you that you can't cancel, they are lying. I FINALLY was able to cancel everything on Monday, January 30, 2011. I recommend going through all the publishers first and canceling (even if they don't have you on record) and then calling this number: [protected]. Make sure you're speaking to the customer service people and NOT the sales department. There IS a difference. I got my money back as well (I only wish I did this five years ago). Make sure when you cancel, you get it in writing, just to be on the safe side. There is a way out! I am posting this so everyone else can see. I hope this reaches you all and can get out of this mess too!

Happened to me, same company. Everything about the company address & phone is correct. President is Vincent S Haydock out of Ft Myers FL. Also involved with Mo Management out of FL. File complaints with Texas Attorney General. FTC, BBB, And US post office under telemarketing and mail fraud. Keep all correspondence. Continue to Cancel, stop, end this subscription. Make sure to file complaints. Most lawyers wont mess with this, amount too small. Plenty big to me!. Looking into small claims suit. Not sure how to proceed on that.
Has anybody been contacted by a debt collector involving this company, or any one of their many names, relating to magazine subscriptions? Has anyone had their credit ruined by refusing to Pay?
Please tell us what you did to get these bums off our backs.
Other names involved in the same scam: Island periodicals, Western Renewal Service, Treasure Coast, Preferred Renewal Service

I've been going through this for five years. I was 19 when they first got me and I didn't know better and let them talk me into stuff. I don't know any subscriptions that last past 5 years and now they want to do this all over again with me. I'm a lot smarter now and I'm gonna try and fight this. I recommend filing a complaint with the FTC and if need be, going directly to the publishers. That's my next stop.
