Randall Ridge Kennel review: Unhealthy dog 6

My complaint is that they are still breeding the sire and ### of my dog and may be passing along health problems and physical problems. My dog, who I purchased in 12/09 was diagnosed with IBD at less than 6 months old, has a deformed tail, has recently been x-rayed and has a deformed back foot which causes repeated sores, he is severely cowhocked and this also causes sores on his back feet, he has repeated ear infections, sores on his elbows, has had a ruptured fistula, now has a lip infection and his elbow skin sores have been almost impossible to rectify. His cowhock is so severe his elbow nearly touch when he walks. I tried to inform both Randall Ridge and Shanho Shepherds that he was sick and they were less than helpful. They never once offered to take him back and by the time he got sick, why would I want another puppy from them at that point. All I asked for when he first got sick was a partial refund and it took weeks to get a response and when I finally did, after sending Randall Ridge a letter from the vet and I described all his problems, was told that he had too many to be believeable, even though I can medically document all my claims. Just a word of caution, buyer beware of both of these breeders. Am sure they will respond to this, but I am the one dealing with a dog that is only 22 months old and has the health issues and physical problems of a dog much older than 22 months. He has along with his IBD, severe bone deformities and such a severe cowhock that he can't even walk or run like a normal dog. Here is a list of his issues:

IBD-severe
Deformed tail
Deformed bone in his back foot that causes sores-can provide the radiograph if necessary
Severe cowhock that if he does not wear booties, his pads will bleed because he can't walk properly.
Has had a ruptured fistula
An abcess on the tail
Repeated skin sores and ear sores that we are still dealing with
as of today, he has some sort of infection on his jowl/lip area that is red and swollen.
So again, only complaining about issues I can document related to his health. He is not what they advertised as a dog bred for heath and temperament.

I should not have to be dealing with issues like this with a 22 month old dog and this has been going on since he was 4 months old.

Like I said, only stating the facts as to the health issues we have had. Attached are just a small sampling of pictures of his issues. Sores from the deformed foot, mouth sores, elbow sores and the radiograph of his deformed foot.

I humbly disagree that one or even the occasional pup should not cause concern. A dog with all the health and physical issues as mine is definite cause for concern. There is obviously a problem breeding these two dogs together. These two dogs may be fine being bred with different dogs. My dog's issues are so severe and numerous that I feel very strongly that these two dogs should not be bred together again. Why take the chance it will possibly happen again. I just wanted to put this out there so if someone is researching, they will all least know that there have been issues. They did not have any testimonials on the website. Honestly feel that since he started getting sick at 4 1/2 months and I kept them informed of every issue he was having at that time, that a partial refund would have been warranted. I did not even ask for a full refund, just half. His health issues are continuous and the cowhock is an issue that will be passed along to the puppies. Cowhock is genetic/heriditary, as are the bone deformities. He also had coccidia, which they did pay for the treatment, but this issue is passed from the mother to every litter she has. It is actually recommended a female that has had coccidia should not be bred. Of course, I learned all of this after the fact. I just want to make sure that someone else does not go through what I have been dealing with. again, I am only writing about medical issues that I can document and my own experience with this breeder. Tried to find others, but my efforts were in vain.

Have now attached pictures of his back legs when he is standing and his tail. Just not normal at all. The two pictures of his legs show how he stands all the time! His back legs look like sticks and he has trouble walking, getting up stairs, into my vehicle and does not walk or run normally. The tail needs no explanation.

I understand that, I do. The point is, the bone deformities and autoimmune issues are hereditary and will continue to be passed along to other puppies, maybe not all the time, but as far as I am concerned, one sick pup is one too many when they refused to acknowldege that he is sick. Unfortunatelly, as well, I was a novice and they do not offer a written guarantee. I know better now. I am not saying to write them off, just be very, very careful when buying a dog from this breeder. she refused to acknowledge my complaints and also refused to believe that there is a problem. They guarantee a healthy dog, but they don't back it up when there is a problem. My dog started getting sick at such a young age and all I wanted was a partial refund. I not going to go back and forth about this. My dog's issues are hereditary, hence, the dogs may continue to pass along these issues to other puppies. So unless someone else has something new to say, I have said my piece. Thanks.

You are obviously a gentleman and have manners and are intelligent. Thank you for being intelligent and kind in your responses.

I have to say, I am very impressed with all the well thought out and intelligent responses. I appreciate all of your input and especially the way things are being kept polite and positive. That was my goal from the start. I see so many complaints regarding breeders that are hard to read and almost intelligible. My goal was to strictly inform and hopefully prevent anyone else from having the same experience. Glad to know that this has been a good way to inform others.

Unfortunately, in NYS, you do not have be licensed (sp?) if you, as a breeder, claim to sell less than 28 pups per year. Again, my goal here is just to inform anyone researching this breeder that I did not get a healthy dog, he does have genetic and hereditary issues and to be careful. I just want to make sure no one else goes through the heartache I have been dealing with with all the health problems my dog has. Forewarned is forearmed. And again, I am only speaking to what I can actually medically document. Everyone who responds is entitled to their opinion and I continue to appreciate all the feedback and that this is being kept civil and polite.

I chose this site to voice my concerns over the health of my dog. I do not want anyone taking my complaint and using anywhere else. That is my decision to make and I have made it. I will not support slamming the breeder on their site or their facebook site. I have kept this strictly related to my dogs documented health issues. My goal here was to strictly inform anyone interested in this breeder to just be very careful, am not advocating anything else. Please do not use my complaint on any other board or social networking site. I have made my decision to keep it here and would respectfully hope everyone can adhere to that. It is afterall, my complaint and I want it to stay here, please. Evajules, I appreciate your input and your concern for my dog very much. But please, do not take it upon yourself to use my complaint anywhere. Thank you.

Thank you Cchuckles! Also on another note, four of my posts responding to others disappeared a few days ago, so if the thread does not make complete sense, that is why. I had pictures of Chances deformed legs and tail, which I have now attached. the cowhock causes his elbows to bow inwards and his feet to point outwards, not normal. The tail needs no explanation. Not sure why that happened, as my posts were not inflammatory, derogatory or otherwise offensive.

These pictures were taken off my facebook page and not with my permission. Chance died in August of 2015 after years of health issues. I never gave her permission to use these pictures. The fact that she is using pictures that do not show the whole picture does not negate the fact that Chance had bone deformities in his feet and legs and serious health issues.

All my pups are vet checked before they leave my kennel. The above pup left my premises walking fine, bright, healthy and alert.
The above client states I did not work with her, this is a false statement as I worked with the client and responded to all her complaints.
I offered her a full refund to bring her pup back as I was concerned with all the issues she stated.
Once a pup leaves my kennel I have no control re the pups environment, nor "injuries" a pup could sustain once out of my care.
Possible cause of "mouth sores" exposure to a allergen or contact irritant in the pet's environment. The x-ray is inconclusive looks to be a possible fractured toe.
See below the clients pup in pictures in different stages of his life of healthy weight, no mouth sores, nor cow-cocked or sores on the back pads his feet.
Should anyone have any questions re this complaint or my German Shepherds I would be more than happy to speak with you on the phone. I have been a breeder of German Shepherds for over 25 years with many happy clients. This is the inconclusive opinion of one client who I did offer her a full refund, which she declined. I will not be responding on this complaint forum re any feedback. Thank you

I TOTALY DISAGREE with all the comments about GSDmom. I too received a bad sick 15oz Yorkie with alot of health problems. I also had a G Shepard that we bred one time. Before we bred her her, and the male had to be tested for genetic problems. Hip, elbow, v.disease etc. Our pups came out 100% healthy. I put a restriction on the AKC papers that they could not bread until they went though me and they had to show vet records of both female and male before I would lift the Reg. for AKC. I'm not even a breeder but you want to make sure you don't have problem dogs. That's whats wrong with these breeders today. $$$$$ and not worry about the health of an animal. Sorry but thats how I feel.

I agree that there can be problems with pups even in the best of breeding programs. However, its their lack of concern, lack of communication and their failure to stand behind their so called warranty that concerns me. Like many of you, I've spent a great deal of money to purchase my dogs-I want a breeder thats there for me and on top of any issues in his/her breeding stock. Rather than this lady having to continously call this person (with no apparent response), a good breeder will be right back on the phone with you and maybe your Vet to determine what is going on with the pup they sold. A good breeder whats to know these things so they can hopefully rule them out in the future.

There's lots of good breeders out there, we need to know about them. But we also need to know about the bad ones. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
