While shopping at Home Depot (which we did often but not anymore) there was a display with envelopes that had a paper stapled to it that said "free water testing". I picked it up as I was curious about our water. I sent a sample in and a week later received a phone call from a lady saying she represented the company that tested our water and told us our water was very hard. She wanted to send a representative out to do a more complete test. I asked her twice if this was a sales pitch and she said absolutely not. The representative came and I immediately knew he was a salesman. I told him I was assured this was not a sales pitch and he said to let him finish and then we could talk. I became irritated as well as my husband and the salesman got "snappy" with us. I finally went outside to cool down and let my husband take care of it. We are Senior Citizens (in our 70's) and do not like unsolicited sales people. Home Depot is obviously approving this irritating practice so Lowes will be our store of choice from now on. The company's name was, I believe, Rain Pure water softeners. Customers beware of these "free water testing" envelopes!

The same thing happened to me. I put the water in the envelope and sent it in. I was assured it was not a pitch but that was not the case. This sales person lied to me and my wife. He said that our water was chlorinated highly when the results showed low levels. I have used a tester like that before. He also broke our sink faucet and didn't tell me. I couldn't get water out of it after he left. I am about to call Home Depot and get them to send out someone to fix it.
