New York Sports Club [NYSC] overcharging and customer service

I signed up approximately March 27, 2019. While the salesman was going through the sign up process, he offered me a program where I can pay an annual registration fee and then lock in a monthly charge of $9.99. I told him the contract doesn't look like it supports that the rate won't change after a year. He indicated the verbiage regarding the periodic rate changes applies only toward the annual fee. Thinking that made sense, I signed the contract. Low and behold 3 months later the fee jumps to $14.99 per month. When I called to complain, i was told the contract permits periodic monthly rate changes and that they can't do anything about it. I asked for a Manager and was told they are not in. They would not provide a phone number of where I could reach them either. The representative (Mitchel) said he would speak to the manager on my behalf and call me back the next day. Having not heard from him the following day, I went into the club and asked for Mitchel. He indicated that he totally forgot about our conversation and had not done anything about it (great response following a customer complaint). I told him i would wait while he called the manager. He indicated the manager was again mk oy in and couldn't be reached. He suggested I write an email to a generic inbox, so I told him he could feel free to do that or have his boss call me (I already knew from reading everyone's complaints online no one ever responds to emails). I also told him that NYSC should be ashamed of itself, for not giving its employees the ability to waive those fees. At the very least they should take that money out of the pay given to the salesperson who misrepresented the deal. Mitchells response was to give me a form to cancel my membership. I told that was not enough for two reasons: the first is that my annual registration fee was paid on the assumption that our deal would be in place for the year. And secondly, having been strong along for 3 months, I was now no longer eligible for a special sign up offer advertised by the neighborhood's newest sports club LA Fitness, which had just opened up three months prior. I suspect NYSC offered the great $9.99 deal because they had keep customers from going over to LA Fitness. As soon as LA Fitness ended their sign up promotion they jacked up my rates. I have avoided bring up all the other things wrong with the woodmere NYSC facility as it is not related to this specific complaint, but for two of the three months there was no air conditioning on the main floor (keep in mind what the temperatures were like this summer and the smell that would generate in a gym). I didn't complain much because, I figured what could I expect at $9.99 a month.
This place's management and support for its customers is just atrocious bit to say anything of their deceptive sales practices

New York Sports Club [NYSC] billing

Joined and everything was fine.
Moved and had to cancel my membership.
Cancelled 1 month in advance and received a SIGNED letter that verified my cancellation.
They continued to bill for 3 more months.
I called and suddenly nobody was ever available to help.
"Manager unavailable", "manager on a conference call, "manager stepped out".
Threatened them with the Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. The changes stopped.
I called and demanded a REFUND for the last 5 months of changes. SAME RUN AROUND. Nobody available to help.
Dishonest, unscrupulous, pathetic business model of squeezing every last dollar from young people with minimal resources. They know that most people will eventually give up. Lame, lame, LAME!

New York Sports Club [NYSC] cancelation of membership

Hello,
I recently canceled my membership at the Rego Park NYSC after trying to get a hold of the manager, Harvey Arroyo, several times by phone and by email. He canceled my membership on July 2nd by email (this after trying to cancel it earlier many times to which he never returned my phone calls) and I was still charged the $30 fee on July 1st.

I have been emailing him to request that I get refunded that amount seeing as how I am no longer a member and he had my account frozen from the month of June. As of today he has still not answered my 3/4 emails since that date.

I am not one to complain because I know these people are very busy but this manager in particular is so incredibly lazy and unprofessional that I have no choice but to submit this complaint. I have spoken to several of his colleagues and most of the time they say he is either coming in late or not coming in at all because he is ill. He is basically-unreachable.

If someone from your office could kindly respond to my inquiry I would appreciate it.

I have had the exact same issue with Harvey Arroyo. He kept dodging my calls all the while refusing to cancel my membership for months at Rego Park location. He was apparently transferred out and the new manager immediately addressed the problem.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] pool

Good morning,

I live in the Morris Park Area and the pool has been out since the beginning of the summer. We have been told that the club is waiting for the state to issue a permit to reopen the pool. It is July 25th and nothing has happened. Who is ultimately responsible for following up with the process? We need access to the pool for exercise and swimming lessons.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] Cancellation of membership

My wife and I have been trying to cancel our memberships at this location for months. When we call, they inform us that you cannot over the phone but you can cancel in person ONLY. After speaking with another NYSC location, I was informed that I could cancel via certified mail which I was not informed of by NYSC Forest Hills. I used to have a membership with NYSC in Whitestone NY and they allowed me to cancel over the phone immediately with no hassle or penalties. Not only does Forest Hill NYSC give you misleading information, they are now telling my wife and I that they cannot cancel our membership unless we pay a $10 cancellation fee. The representative did not tell us this when it went in yesterday in person. On top of that they raised our monthly fee without any notification from $27 to $37 per month. My wife is pregnant and we cannot deal with this disgusting practice. I will escalate this matter to small claims court. When my wife and I signed up, the representative told us that our monthly will always remain at $27 per month. This was a flat out LIE. I will make it my duty to inform others of this location's deceitful practices. I will not be sending a certified mail with a copy of my cancellation, contract and written statement from my law firm.

I went on Feb. 15 in person to cancel my membership. The person at the front desk assure that he pass the information to the manager. I went on May 1st again to see what was going on because I was still getting charged. Spoke with a manager and offered to give me a refund for the discrepancy. I
went again on June and spoke with a different manager and was given different information. Management team unprofessional and gave false information about canceled membership. Went to the facility three different times. Nothing is resolved and offered a refund for their mistake. No refund.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] inadequate & dangerous faulty equipment

West 73rd & CPK NYSC facility
-Treadmills in lower level have ripped belts with no "Out of Order" signs
- Treadmills in main area are constantly out of order
-Several machines are missing weight stack pins and the attachments are beat up and rusted.
-Many pieces cardio equipment don't have working monitors.
- Leg Extension machine padding and upholstery is ripped or exposed

unfortunately this is also true of the City hall branch on Broadway.
The place is clean and busy with good staff,
but the machines are always broken - particularly the aerobic line of treadmills, climbers, etc, .
and this area need to be beefed up. other locations have much more of a percentage.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] pool

The pool at the Bayonne facility has been closed since June 25th. Today is July 22.
Every week I am told that it will be opened by the end of the week. I was told the Bayonne Bd of Health has to come to inspect it before they can reopen. I contacted the Bd of Health and they said the NYSC has to contact them. I have also been told there is a regional employee who maintains the pool. Many members use this pool and we are very disappointed in the lack of maintenance and the lack of customer service at the Bayonne Club. We were told we can use any pool at other NYSC. That is not helpful to me and I have the passport where I can go to other NYSCs. So how is that compensation for me? We love our pool at NYSC. Please can you do something to reopen it and have it better maintained.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] service

This club has no body responsible, they kept charging my credit card in increasingly rate, and when I call for complaint either they don't pick up or say the manager is not here. I wanted to cancel my membership but they never did cancel it. I Need help to get red of this nightmare. People there are horrible, and not cooperative, and bad attitude, is there any way to speak to body responsible for this company?

New York Sports Club [NYSC] service for the member

on July 15, 2019 -this facility has no running water- a sign is posted as members enter
stating no water from "11am to 530pm" we asked the front desk if there will be water or none? replied YES in 45 Minutes- went to the locker room which is been too hot for the past 2 month (the answer to this is because they are working on the air conditioning system) the bathroom was corded when i asked the locker attendant she simply say no water no one can use the toilet (she only speak Spanish which i do understand) ask her question where do we go to use the bathroom she said go asked the front desk- i need to wash my hand no water on the sink - i still proceed to do a little work out hoping the water issue will be resolved-went up to see the front desk for I need to use the bathroom before my class -answer still NO WATER- we can not use the toilet to urinate- if i want i can go to outside facility to use the bathroom-meaning i have to go to other building with my sweaty clothes to urinate- when i asked why is the gym open if there is no water? a member consultant answer to me "WHY DO I NEED A WATER TO WORKOUT" "SOME MEMBER DO NOT USE SHOWER AFTER WORKING OUT" to me that is a very rude and unprofessional answer -ask for the manager on duty NO Manager -manager left for the day -if i want to speak to the manager i need to call the next day -called the next day a person answer and put me on hold for 20mins -after telling her the nature of my call -i hang up dialed again a man answer and he announced himself that he is member consultant and he will relay my complain to manager-i stated my complained and the same answer i got from the night before which is :WE TELL THE MEMBER NO WATER AND NOBODY CAN USE THE TOILET" I ASKED HIM HOW DID HE USED THE TOILET YESTERDAY? HE SAID I HAVE WAYS TO DO IT -MEANING THEY ARE WORKING ALL DAY WITH WASHING THEIR HANDS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE WAS NOT WATER IN THE GYM. POOL ISSUE IS ANOTHER ONE -WE ASKED HOW COME THE WATER IN THE POOL DOES NOT SMELL CHLORINE - BECAUSE A POOL THAT DOES NOT HAVE A SMELL OF A CHLORINE MEANS THE WATER IS NOT BEING FILTERED -THE ANSWER WE GOT IS THE LIFE GUARD IS JUST A RELIEVER -MEANING SHE IS NOT A CERTIFIED LIFE GUARD SHE DOES NOT KNOW THE PROPER TEXTURE FOR THE WATER IN THE POOL ESPECIALLY FOR THE GYM. AN ACTION IS BADLY NEEDED TO THIS PROBLEM- PLEASE THIS IS BECOMING A BIG ISSUE - OTHERWISE I WILL SUBMIT THIS COMPLAIN TO DEPT OF HEALTH -THIS KIND OF FACILITY IS VERY UNSANITARY TO MEMBERS OF THIS GYM.
I AM LOOKING FORWARD FOR AN ANSWER TO THIS.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] customer services and billing

They have terrible costumer service. All of the tvs are always broken. I have to try between 3-5 ellipticals before I can actually find one that works which wastes half the time I have allotted for working out. I can't speak to a manager no matter when I call. They raised our rate without telling us 2 years in a row. The first year they did it they lowered it back down and assured me they wouldn't do it again which of course they did. When my husband and I cancelled our memberships because we were tired of all of these problems in May 2019, they "lost" his cancelation paperwork and continued to charge us for the next 2 months a long with another cancellation fee and a 45 day notice where they continued to charge us a full months rate and prorated it for a half a month. This just happened today so they claim the payments will stop after 45 days but I have no reason to believe they will. We have disputed all the charges on our credit card but New York Sports Club is taking absolutely no responsibility what so ever and just keeps saying it is an automated system and there is nothing they can do about it. I tried to call corporate to discuss this matter and they told me they can't forward me to a manager so simply no one can help me supposedly and I am extremely frustrated.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] gym membership and customer service

In February 2019, i was trying to cancel my membership in local Midwood, Brooklyn gym location. The employees there told me that they don't have manager in the facility and they are not able to cancel my membership, but they have a substitute who is visiting the location couple of times a week and they will pass my cancellation request to him/her and they will call me to confirm. That never happened, within 3 months iw as calling/visiting the location trying yo cancel this membership but every time they were unable to proceed as there were no manager, feeding me with nonsense about passing my request to someone. I called the main office but they refused to help me, saying that i should resolve this in local gym. For the whole time i was battling this irresponsible lack of organizational management, the gym kept charging me for services i was not even using! I had nothing to do but block my card to avoid them charging me more.

Finally they hired a manager in March 2019 and he started the cancellation process. He said that before he can cancel the membership he needs to submit a refund for me to clear the balance, and WOW it took him another 2 months till June 2019 to let me know that "somebody" declined the request because of lack of EVIDENCE ! The business has NO manager on duty for 3 month, is this not an EVIDANCE? Due to their absolute disorganization i already lost around $100 and now they are threatening me with collection agency ? I cannot stand this absolute unfairness and hope at least someone can help me. Why i have to pay and being threatened because the business is not organized.

The general manager of this club is terrible. I was incorrectly charged a higher monthly rate. When I contacted this club, they agreed per email to reimburse me the overage that I paid. It's been about 6 months and I still have not received the refund. I call the gym regularly to speak with Grigor Puleri and he is either out or busy. He does not return my calls of emails. One time I did reach him, I explained my situation and he said he was going to work on resolving it and would get back to me. That was about 2 months ago. I continue to call the gym and leave messages, but he does not call me back. This is unacceptable.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] cancellation of service/rude management quality

To whom it may concern,
This complaint is in reference to New York sports club located on your W 62 W. location. I signed up for the club back in 2017 in 2018, finding out I was being relocated with my job I had to cancel the membership. I was told I was not able to cancel at this time due to contract agreement. However, I could put my account on hold and I would be charged $15 each month until my year was up. Relocated over to California the end of December 2018. For almost a year I have not use my New York sports club account. Upon seeing a new charge, I tried to cancel with the 62nd Street location once again. I was told since I wasn't able to come in person that, I had to send a certified letter requesting cancellation. I did so back in January and didn't hear anything afterwards. Later on this year, I received an email from Tina Gonzalez staying my account was still active and I'm currently being charged and they're unable to charge my account. I quickly called and spoke with Tina I receive nothing but a rude tone and poor customer service. Tina was very curt, rude, abrupt and didn't give me any information besides stating that there's nothing on file that I sent a certified letter. I resent a certified letter with pictures and sent it to Tina. I had to follow up with Tina to see if she received my certified letter. She did not even attempt to reach back out to confirm she had received my documents. Tina Gonzalez then sent me an email stating that my balance had to be paid in order for the account to be canceled along with the prorated fee. I called and spoke with Tina on the phone to make sure once again this was paid that no further charges will be due. Tina stated balance would be close after the $106 was paid in her rude tone/ also in an email with that total. On June 21st I called in to make a payment directly with Tina. Instead I received Moziz whom was working the front desk. He informed me that Tina would not be in until the next day. However he can help. Speaking with Moziz, whom was very helpful, I paid off my balance and he told me from here on it is all clear and the account is closed. The next day I decided to call Tina and make sure everything was squared away, since she has been the one I've been in communication with about my account. Tina answered the phone directly and the minute I mentioned who I was she stated she does not deal with customer accounts on the weekend that I'm going to have to call back on Monday. I told her all I want to know is that everything is complete. I have not received any email confirmation about my account being closed she then repeated you're gonna have to call back Monday in a rude manner. I told Tina Gonzalez, I just needed a confirmation email about my account that it's completely rectified. Tina then asked me who did I speak to yesterday and made my payment with? I informed her it was Moziz and that I paid the entire balance that was requested. Tina Gonzalez then went on to state that Moziz didn't inform me of the prorated fee for July, And that she would speak to me about it on Monday. It was at this point where I became finally became upset because Tina in her email stated that the balance that owe with the prorated fee was $106. This is very poor customer service and business practice. I've been trying to close this account for almost a year now in a state that I no longer live in. Beyond Tina not being someone that should deal with consumers due to her hanging the phone up on me, she seemed to have dragged this process on to get more money out of me. This all feels like a con/scam. This is not the type of service a brand like NYSC should be providing. Can someone from customer service and corporate please contact me in relevance to my account.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] personal training

My client ID #9041433. The PT was after me for a while to get a Personal Training services. For a month I was trying to avoid the guy telling him that I have numerous back problems and that the services are very expensive. Then Abraham Schwartzberg caught me in April saying that there is a sale on PT. I gave in and purchased a 3 months contract for Personal Training. I have advised the PT that I have back problems. He told me himself that he can see it for himself, that my back is very weak. First month all 4 sessions, I was arguing with him bringing trying to reduce the waits size or refusing to do certain exercises. Which made me wonder who is the professional here? The contract was signed on April 28th and my card was charged for the first month of the contract. Everything went well for the first month. Then on April 28th the 2nd charge was made on my card and I took 2 more sessions. After that 2nd session on May 6th my back got hurt. Since may 7th I was in contact with Mr. Schwartzberg advising him on the status and pleading to cancel. Then I was trying to reach the manager for a week to provide her with the doctors note and my request to cancel. However, my card was continually charged and my numerous requests to cancel were ignored. I had no choice but to dispute the remaining amounts under the contract with the credit card. And while this dispute is in works, I saw last night on June 20th that PT scheduled other sessions that I can't take due to the medical reasons. Communication with PT is attached. Cancellation request along with the doctor's note is attached. I already have a bill from the doctor, if you need it. Please help me to cancel the contract and rectify the situation with the charges for not fulfilled contract.

As of today the local club at 26 Court street in Brooklyn continuously is scheduling PT sessions without talking to me and I am unable to stop them. It is now become a complete harassment and extorsion pattern. I called the manager and she refused to hear me saying that doctor didn't tailor the note to comply with the corporate policy for PT cancellation. I called corporate office and they told me they have nothing to do with PT. It is all between the PT and local manager and they both act as it is up to corporate. This all looks like one big scheme. Please see all communication with PT and the same communication took place with the local manager Melissa Dobles.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] I am complaint about a male employee walking into the ladies locker room and opened sauna door and I was naked

New York Sport's Club Headquarters:
My name is Xiaobin Zhang and I am writing to make a complaint at the New York Sport's Club, located at 124 Palmer ave Mamaroneck NY 10543. A male employee, during business hours, went to the lady's locker room and opened the sauna room door, while I was inside the sauna room naked.
On 6/01/19, I went to the gym around 4:30 pm in the afternoon, doing my daily exercise. After I finished exercising I went to the locker room to use the sauna, as per usual. I was laying down on the bench, inside the sauna, covered in towels and plastic covers, wrapping up my body (my stomach area, face, and my head), to contain and generate more heat. Seeing as how the wrappings generated a lot of heat, and how there was no one else in the sauna, I got up and removed the towels and other covers. After a few minutes of sauna usage, the sauna door was opened by a male employee. I was startled and upset. Usually there would be a notice, something like a person yelling "the gym is closing in 15 minutes or so, very loudly. However, on 6/01/19, there was no notice.
This incident caused me to be very hurt, upset, and very angry. My emotions bubbled, I wanted to cry because the male worker snuck up on me and viewed my naked body. This all happened during normal business hours and I felt that my privacy was violated and that I was sexually harassed.
I proceeded to call the police and made a report. Now, I have sleep issues due to this incident, being deeply painful and psychologically damaging.
I hope that with my case, at the very least, the New York Sport's Club will have a change in policy because I wish for this never to happen to any other woman.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] babysitting

Syosset NYSC has a new manager and ever since she started her position, there have been several problems with the babysitting service. Members pay extra for this service and rely on it. It's a way for mother's to stay fit, be healthy, and feel good about themselves. The new manager implemented a 8 children rule to the babysitting service, which has never been implemented in the past. Members we're always accommodated and if there were too many kids in the room, another employee helped out. This new manager, Brianna Lent, means to turn away mother's who travel with their young kids if the limit is reached. This is a horrible and disgraceful business practice. If that's not bad enough, conveniently, the babysitting room has been closed the last couple of days due to a flood. Again, no accomodations were made for members, no communication, and mother's were turned away after traveling to the gym with their young children. It's May 15 and we are told the babysitting room will not be open until May 21, the earliest. This is unacceptable. A refund should be offered.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] unauthorized charges

I went to the Glendale location on march 3rd to cancel I was told a manger would call me back. However never got a call. I continued to receive emails about non payment in may so I contacted them to find out why am I getting these emails an I was told the manager left a message for me an I never called back even tho she confirmed to me I signed the cancellation paper 3/3/19 she also said I owe a balance I told the manager I would not pay a past due balance for something not my fault. Later that evening I get an alert that 69.99 was charged to my acct from Glendale nysc. The location was closed when I saw the charge so I will contact my bank, the gym in the morning an if I have to a lawyer because at this point I'm being scammed . I need answers!

New York Sports Club [NYSC] nyc unauthorized credit card charge

Used the club for a year and cancelled membership in October 2017. Have not used the club since then except when thought about starting again and went once in Feb.
Realized with accountant Ive been being charged monthly since 2017. Never received any marketing or receipt email from them in all that time. Was just told its because the person who signed me up initially never fully processed my application and even though they have the correct email for me they never fully entered into the system.

I got a free day pass online and went February 3rd so use the facilities to see if I wanted to rejoin. The check-in lady seemed confused and just let me go in. Im wondering if she didn't understand why I was using a day pass if I was a member. Of course she didnt say anything otherwise I would have started trying to figure this out.

New York Sports Club [NYSC] unethical / discriminating behavior against a minor by nysc staff

My 15-year-old son who went to this gym for two years taking private swimming lessons without ever having a problem decided to rejoin under a student membership just a couple of months ago. He innocently took a picture of one of the lifeguards who is completely dressed in her one piece bathing suit. She called a mngr over and claimed that she couldn't work there anymore bc a 15 yr was taking a single picture that was never actually taken. So They revoked his membership without any notification or warning because of very young lifeguard wasn't trained or experienced enough to make a better judgement cool and neither was the manager knowing that there are absolutely no signs posted and it is not specified in their own contract. This is the first and only occurrence. They should've called him over, advised him that he couldn't take a picture and it would have been a learning experience. The way they handled the entire situation is uncalled for. I want everyone to know that there are absolutely zero signs posted in New York sports club White Plains against taking photos it is also not specified in their own contract which I have a copy of. I am sure it is not the first picture of her or other life guards being taken in the pool area. I'm having a problem getting in touch with the corporate offices as no one is willing to give me their address or telephone number #.
