I recieved an e-mail similar which of course one " smells a rat straight away". They did not want money or bank details and I did reply only to ask for more details. They did reply but I took it no further. We have a family friend in the Queensland Police Service and I passed it on to him to give it to their Fraud Section. If something is too good to be true, it usually is suspect.
    Take care out there, Denis

Received Email stating that: "You have been awarded the sum of 1, 500, 000.00 (One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Pounds sterlings only). Contact Below: Mrs. Diane Milton, Claims Director, Extol Finance Limited." And then it goes on to ask for my Address, Email, Marital Status, Telephone, Age, etc. And to choose mode of payment.

This is the first such Email I have received on November 4, 2008. Upon receiving it I then Googled various Watchdog and Scam sites to see if this particular scam has been recognized or if others have also logged it in as a complaint. It obviously is bogus.

any lottery that a person can win, when they have never bought a ticket needs to be checked out. The idea is fantastic. We all wish we were that lucky. But before anyone gives out their personal info they better make sure of the source. Identity theif is a real possibility, and of course they will ask for money to help secure the funds, pay for the lawyer, ect. Be aware

First thing I did was google search Liverwood Promotions. I share the email account that it was sent to with another person so I couldn't be sure that some sort of entry hadn't taken place; figured it out pretty quickly though...

Just got the email myself. No requests for banking info but a request for enough info to sell onto another company to hit a call list. Then if you do call there is the cash deposit to transfer the winnings as Mr Hough mentioned. This is the thing, worked for a life insurance telemarketing company years ago(not for long) and they "generated leads" by getting people to enter a fake contest then sold the details on to other people once the staff had been done with them in practice double dipping on the fraud(which is why I quit and complained). So the lottery scam tries to make it's dough by getting you to send a "transfer fee" then with the occupation and income info they requested(what does my current income, or lack of, I'm a student now, have to do with winning 1, 500, 000?), they sell on to sales companies to target you based on location and income. So if you do respond by emailing, thinking that there is no request for bank details it can't hurt, you give a qualified lead to a marketing company. And here comes the calls.

Hey, I sent back my info (although) they only asked me for Name Address and Tele (legal) I called to verify existance of company in UK. Googled and Binged
Oddly, finding out that Relliance (the Company name) was similar to actual large package company in UK. -1L
Then about two weeks later a local courier (Brown) delivered my parcel and there it was a UK cheque (voucher) like a (Publisher C H ) bulk mail check for the full amount of 1, 500, 000 requesting bank info for ddeposit. So, I gave them a routing #'s from a canceled check anfter informing my bank and nothing happened ... EXCEPT A CREDIT CHECK ! Then after a while, about 60 day's or so. Then my ship came in! Oh Joy!

Every day for 6 mos. I started recieving the payments! In total: 24, 000, 000 oz (=1, 5000, 000 lbs) of parcel junk mail from anything you can imagine.

Telemarketers selling stuff from Central Asia to South America.

Free laundry detergent, Eurpean Cruise travel vouchers.

A collection notice from 6-7 yrs. ago.

    miricle cures by the dozens

But I did recieve a free phone* with calling card...later was sent a bill. (*WAS NOT VIRGIN Cell Co.)

    e-mail
Hundreds of Junk asking questions and credit offers.

SO< I sent a big box about 20 lbs to the address of record COD!

Found their web map and collected addresses and my friends and I stacked up spam and over populated all known email addresses in their association. So afterwards my team overloaded and shut down the server couple of times! So there! ;) Bloody [censor]!

hOWEVER~ The only finding of fraud law related to this case is the fact the company specified award with a monetary symbol of the British lb (£1, 500, 000.00 British Pounds ) Found this not to be mail fraud or fraud by electronic mail or any other means due to the fact no probratory Law or Statute prevails out of U.S. juristiction.

    Comments?
Just collecting information by trasmition of eronious claims constitutes "bait and switch" and individuals providing the info to the company is paramount as to whether or not their claim appealed to the consumer.

"BAIT AND SWITCH" would prvail in a US court by precident as free enterprise burden of consumer is evident to protect thier own privacy. This is what allows Enforment Officers to create elaborate sting operations without violating constitutional right to due process ~[protected]@ce~

This company tried to scam me too, Fortunatly im not that stupid but i feel someone who isnt as fortunate will fall for this scam. They want you to get a postal service for $600 to deliver the package. but once your money is sent you will never see the package. The target the usa so they know it will be to costly to find them. They need to be charged for this crime.
