Memorial Hermann Health System neglect/quick to judge/denied proper care by dr.

After waiting 5 plus hours n the er waiting room w immense pain & nausea I was eased by the amazing care of the er dr & nurse as well as a student nurse n the er room i was put n. I was told i had multiple kidney stones & that my blood levels were off & being it was middle of the night they admitted me into the hospital. Through out the night i received pain management to help pain from stones & to lower my extreme high blood pressure which was more than likely from pain. i was poked multiple times during night n hopes my blood levels would level out but that was not the case. Early n the morning i was notified by er dr who actually took the time to come check on me on his way out that the gi dr would b coming to evaluate me later on. A few hours later i rang the nurse to assist me w pain medicine & she said she would b right back. When she returned she was w a dr jerry lee Thurman jr who stated that he discontinued my pain medicine & processed to tell me that the amount of pain medicine i was receiving was way to high & that where my stones r i shouldn't have pain & made comments as to he's had kidney stones before & passed them w no medicine, which is great for him but i am not him. as i tried telling him my background & y that much pain medication is necessary he simply looked at the nurse & laughed n which she laughed too. He then questioned y i was there making me feel as if i was some "drug seeker" & ended conversation by saying nothing is wrong w me. Not once did he allow me to speak or suggest that if he thought i was a "drug seeker" then by all means check my urine upon arrival which would show no drugs whatsoever were n my system. He immediately discharged me which left me feeling neglected, scared & n search of transportation home. My discharge papers were handed to me & they left room, (no pain prescription was given nor was a prescription for the extremely high blood pressure i repeatedly was having) As i waited for my ride another dr entered into my room & stated that she was w the gi dr who would like to do a procedure ASAP & that it was needed ASAP since as of this morning my blood levels were still very much off & that blood was found n my urine & stool. I told her i had been discharged & she became very upset & said that she notified dr Thurman jr that the gi dr wanted to examine me but apparently dr Thurman jr had other plans & that was sending me out the door. Dr jerry lee Thurman jr not only jumped to conclusions, he profiled me on the fact of pain meds i was receiving while n a controlled environment & w only a look at me discharged me & failed to service me w care as the law requires a medical healthcare professional do. I am at another hospital now w proper care & understanding, however, i will b filing a complaint against dr jerry lee Thurman jr w the board of Southeast Memorial Hospital along w complaint against his dr number n hopes he reverts his medical authority as care giver & takes time to remember y he chose to become a doctor to begin w!

Account # [protected]
I went to the ER with pain in my abdomen. It was a kidney Stone
I was give a CT Scan on the Pelvis/Abdomen W/O Con and was charged $6, 293.00
This is a very high out of pocket charge. I have researched and found that the normal ER CT scan is $1200-$2000.
I am asking you to please research this and adjust it to a more reasonable amount.
Preferably $1200.00
Thank you, Jesse

Memorial Hermann Health System billing

August 2018 I received a call a day before my procedure and told that they contacted my insurance company and my part to pay would be $283 for a diagnostic mammogram.
I get a bill for 483 a couple of months later with a balance of 330 as I already paid 153 during visit.
I have tried numerous times to talk with corporate office and call the customer relations and no one can give me a straight answer why I was quoted 200$ less.
I called my insurance company and there is no call from Memorial Hermann on their record and nobody gave them that $283 amount
Now they send it to FMA Alliance ltd for collection?
You must be kidding. Straighten this out. I am only willing to pay $283. Also I need to have someone from corporate office call me

Marley R. Jordan - Patient D.O.B. 11/01/2018
Simone & Marquis Jordan - Parents
[protected]-7503
04/17/19

We Visited Memorial Hermann's League City CCC Emergency Department on 4/17/19, with my daughter, 5 month old, Marley Jordan because she had a temperature. When taken to the back, we explained to the doctor and nurse, that Marley had a temperature. My husband and I were asked if she had any vaccinations in the past few days. I explained that Marley has not been vaccinated and immediately the doctor's (Wendy Brooks Alcanter) tone became angry, accusatory and condescending. She wanted to know why Marley had not been vaccinated. I told her that it was our (my husband and I's) choice, her exact words were (as she raised her voice), "don't you care about your daughter dying".
Dr. Alcanter went on to say that, she was going to give Marley a spinal tap, chest x-ray and blood draw, solely because she was unvaccinated. I told her I did not want her to do that, as Marley had no symptoms of difficulty breathing or upper respiratory issues. Dr. Alcanter then said that she gave all kids that are unvaccinated spinal taps when they had high fevers. I again said no. She then said that they were going to give Marley a catheter to get a urine sample to see if she had a urinary tract infection (UTI). After googling the symptoms of a UTI (high fever, loss of appetite, irritability, vomiting and odor) my husband and I said no we did not want that test either, however, the doctor continued to badger us and we finally relented. I voiced my concern that Marley's vaginal area was so small that they could hurt her. One nurse attempted to insert the catheter and failed twice, she then turned to another nurse and told her, "you try, I can't do it" the other nurse attempted and could not as well. Dr. Alcanter and the nursing staff continued to discount my concerns and desires for my baby. At that point, my husband got very upset, left the exam room and asked my mother-in- law to in. My mother-in-law came in the room and asked what was going on because she could hear Marley screaming while she was in the lobby. We found out later upon changing Marley's diaper that they had actually cut Marley with the plastic caterer tubing, however, they never mentioned that to us even though there was visible blood present. Dr. Alcanter kept insisting that she was going to do a spinal tap on Marley and both my Mother-in-law and I told her we refused to allow that. Dr. Alcanter then began saying that if she did not do the test she would in her words "die", at that moment my mother-in-law told me to call Marley's Pediatrician and take her to her. At that point, Dr. Alcanter told me that she was Marley's doctor and we could not take her. My mother-in-law told me to continue talking to the Pediatrician's office because we could and were going to take Marley to her Pediatrician. We explained to the doctor that we merely came to the ER because we wanted to give her Tylenol and were not sure how much to give since she was under the suggested 2 years of age. We further explained, since she was running a temperature, we decided to bring her to be checked, knowing they would give her the correct dosage of Tylenol. At that point, Tylenol was never mentioned as a treatment option, later a nurse came in and gave it to her. Meanwhile, Dr. Alcanter continued to tell us that she was Marley's doctor and we could not take her or she would die, asking me once again, did I want to kill my baby? On other instances, stating Marley would die if we left her without being treated. If I wanted my child to die or kill her, why would I bring her to a hospital? By this time, I had spoken to my baby's Pediatrician, explained Marley's entire situation, and was told to bring her over. My mother-in-law told the doctor that we were going to take Marley directly to her Pediatrician from the ER, however, Dr. Alcanter continued to say no and that if we left against her advice that Marley would die because she did not know why she had a fever of 103 degrees and that she could have a seizure and die. At no time while in the emergency room did Marley's temperature reach 102 degrees, much less, 103 degrees. I told her that when I had checked Marley's temperature at home in the early morning she registered 103 degrees. I was asked how I had taken her temperature and I said it was taken in her armpit. Dr. Alcanter said that the most accurate place to take a babies temperature was rectally and that orally or the armpit could cause the temperature to fluctuate 2 to 3 degrees. I repeated again that we wanted to take her to her Pediatrician and planned to take her directly there from the ER. My mother-in-law also told Dr. Alcanter that we were more comfortable taking Marley to her Pediatrician since she was familiar with Marley and knew her medical history and this was the first time in her 5 months that she had been sick. A Nurse Komeara came in, we explained our concerns about the medical staff and Dr. Alcanter not listening to our concerns and wishes for Marley and nurse Komeara stated that she understood. She also asked me to try to feed Marley again, so, my mother-in-law said she wanted to change her diaper and the nurse said for her to wait because she wanted to put a plastic pouch over her vaginal area so that she could collect some urine to test. Why was that not a valid suggestion when my husband and I requested that they not use a catheter? Dr. Alcanter then began to tell us that she needed the Pediatrician's number so that she could speak to her. We asked why and she said that she needed to talk to her about Marley's treatment and to let her know that she needed to stay at Memorial Hermann. I told her that I would sign something if I needed to that I wanted to take Marley to her Pediatrician. Dr. Alcanter continued to say that she was Marley's doctor and she did not want us to take her. My mother-in-law told Dr. Alcanter that I, as Marley's Parent, had a right to sign her daughter out against Medical Advice, so give her an AMA (Against Medical Advice) form. Dr. Alcanter seemed surprised that my mother-in-law knew that. Throughout this 2-hour ordeal, Dr. Alcanter continued to state that my daughter would die and she continued to ask for Marley's Pediatrician's phone number. My mother-in-law told her we did not want to give her the phone number because we believed that she would exaggerate the truth; as she was doing with us by telling Marley's Pediatrician that Marley had a 103-degree temperature and that her health was worse than it actually was. Never, during Marley's time at the ER did she ever have a temperature that reached 102 degrees. Additionally, Marley was alert, responsive, feeding, crying and drooling; which by the way, Nurse Komeara, RN pointed out when she commented that Marley was not dehydrated because she was crying and drooling.
Dr. Alcanter finally relented and agreed to bring an AMA form however, each time before and after she agreed to do so, she continued to come into the room and ask for Marley's Pediatrician's phone number, and we refused to give it to her. Finally, just before the nurse brought the form Dr. Alcanter told my mother-in-law and me that should Marley become worse bring her back to Memorial Hermann because she was her doctor and Memorial Hermann was better equipped to treat Marley. She went on to say that I should not take her to Texas Children's Hospital because "those doctors were not trained as Pediatric doctors and were only trained to treat pediatric patients once they get to Texas Children's, whereas Memorial Hermann's ER doctors are all pediatric doctors". My mother-in-law stated that it is called "Texas Children's" why would the doctors not be trained in pediatrics, that did not make sense. Dr. Alcanter continued to berate Texas Children's and its facility as incompetent.
As we were leaving through the lobby area the Desk clerk called out to us and said that we needed to register, however, we registered when we got to the hospital and the desk clerk was the very person to register us. After a minute or two, she stated that we had registered and were free to go.
I would like to say that was the end of our ordeal with Memorial Hermann, but unfortunately, it was not. As we stated to Dr. Alcanter we took Marley directly to her Pediatrician. The Pediatrician was able to perform all of the necessary tests without hurting Marley or upsetting her and as a result, Marley was feeling much better when we left and her temperature had decreased. The Pediatrician prescribed antibiotics and told me to continue to give her Infant Tylenol.
My husband and I dropped Marley off home with my Mother-in-law so that she could rest while we went to the drug store to pick up the Infant Tylenol prescribed by Dr. Alcanter, which, we were told by the Pharmacist could be purchased over the counter, which we did. Shortly after arriving at the Drug Store, I received a call from Child Protective Services (CPS), the Worker stated that Dr. Alcanter called CPS and told them that it was an Emergency Situation and that Marley was in immediate danger because we took her against medical advice and she would need to see Marley right away. I told her that we had just left her Pediatrician's office and that my husband and I were out picking up Marley's prescription, but, Marley was at home with my mother-in-law and I needed to call her and let her know that she was coming over.
The Social Worker arrived and told my mother-in-law that Dr. Alcanter called and reported an Emergency Case to CPS that Marley was in danger. My mother-in-law explained all that transpired with Dr. Alcanter to include her numerous statements that Marley was going to die and that I was going to kill my baby if I left the medical facility. The Social Worker looked Marley over and my mother-in-law removed Marley's diaper and showed her where the nurses had cut Marley's vaginal area. She stated that she had spoken with Dr. Alcanter and with Marley's Pediatrician and she would be closing the case because there is no abuse.
This entire ordeal was a result of Dr. Alcanter judging myself and my husband for our legal right and personal choice not vaccinate our baby. Had Dr. Alcanter given us the opportunity to explain our reasoning before judging and dismissing us as neglectful parents; we would have told her that we intend to vaccinate her once she had gotten a few months older. I believe another contributing factor was our refusal to give her the Pediatrician's phone number, which again is our right and choice, especially because of her response and treatment of us. Every indication told me that she would exaggerate Marley's condition to her Pediatrician in an attempt to keep my baby in her care. Everything about her demeanor once told Marley was unvaccinated was beyond unprofessional and unbiased. I have never witnessed a medical profession berate another Medical Facility and Professionals in such a manner. My concern is for all those other parents who are not aware of their rights and encountered this doctor. How many other babies has she traumatized, performed unnecessary spinal taps, and chest x-rays on simply because she does not agree with the parents' choice? How many other families and young mothers has she judged and bullied because of her personal opinion and beliefs? How many other families and young mothers has she falsely reported to CPS? Even though I told Dr. Alcanter and Nurse Komeara I was taking Marley to her Pediatrician directly from the hospital the discharge notes stated that "Follow up with a Physician. Note, an appointment was not made. You will need to call the doctor's office. Call today or as soon as possible for an appointment.", which was a blatant lie since both Dr. Alcanter and the discharge nurse, Komeara, were in the room during the time I was on the phone with the Pediatrician's office. Also, in the Comments section below that, emphasized with a star, are "Keep your appointment with your pediatrician today." I believe that Dr. Alcanter should not be practicing medicine. Her intimidation tactics, biases and vindictiveness are subjecting vulnerable parents to undo hardships and grief and defenseless babies to undue trauma simply because she has a personal issue with the parents' choice to not vaccinate their child. This doctor has to be stopped immediately before she inflicts any more damage, pain and suffering.

Memorial Hermann Health System unnecessary surgeries

My mother, Ruby Baker was instructed and given an unnecessary surgery to put pins in her back and one month later instructed and given another surgery to remove the pins and undo the original surgery. I do not think it is fair and I do not think I should have to pay for two unnecessary surgeries.

My mother is 68 years old, living on a fixed income. She cannot financially afford unnecessary surgeries, nor can her body handle them.

Memorial Hermann Health System medical bill

Hello,

I was provided a service that was supposed to be covered by my insurance company back in March 2017. I have been going back and forth with you and my insurance company regarding the payment and have been given conflicting information. Both sides are saying that it is each other's responsibility. In the meantime, I am on the hook for a massive bill that I cannot afford. If I had known that this was not covered, I would have never gone through with it. I am still in pain to this day with no resolution. My doctor recommended that I take this test and my insurance company is claiming that the test is experimental. It is not experimental. I have real pain that has been ongoing for o ver a decade. I have spoken to several peopple and it now appears that this could be a coding issue. Please give my account another look regarding the coding that is tied to the procedure. It may be the answer I need for your bill to be paid. I also have a rep from Health Advocate working on my behalf to resolve this. Please contact me at [protected]@yahoo.com if you need further information from me.

Memorial Hermann Health System inadequate er care

I brought my daughter (3) into the ER on 3/10/19 at 3:45 am. She was sleeping next to me and I woke up when I touched her because she was burning up. She was not covered and had a tem of 104. She was perfectly fine when she had gone to sleep so the sudden spike in temperature worried me.
The nurse who triaged stated right off the bat that she probably has strep because it has been going around. I explained that my kids have had strep numerous times and (while i am not a doc/nurse) I can usually tell when they have it. She has showed no signs of strep and was only complaining of her neck and legs hurting. She kept insisting it was strep so I didnt say anything else.
Dr. David Turell was working that night and insisted on strep as well. I explained again that I was concerned about the high temp and the fact that her neck was hurting. She hadnt said anything about her throat hurting at all. He brushed off what I said and did a strep test. He stated that even if the test was negative he was going to assume it was strep anyways. He did no other tests. He stated that he treats a fever of 99 as he would a fever of 104, the number didnt matter.
While waiting on the results I could hear Dr. Turell speaking with a coworker about how kids have fevers and he was trying to explain to me that strep was going around and the number on the thermometer does not matter. Dr. Turell even told me that her symptoms were not consistent with strep.
The strep test was negative and he told us we could go. I explained that I was still concerned about my daughters temp and he said to follow up with her pediatrician.

I am not one to complain, but I felt as though it was dumb of me to bring my daughter in. Dr. Turrell and the nurse working made me feel like I should not be concerned about a 104 temp and a sore neck. While I am thankful that my daughter did not have anything serious, it very well could have been. I know someone who died from meningitis and, being a wife of an emt, I know that there are so many things out there that no one thinks can affect them, until they do. Dr. Turell did not listen to my concerns and I did not feel comfortable leaving the ER with only a strep test being completed. Especially when she showed no signs of having strep.

Thank you for your time.

Memorial Hermann Health System Emergency room

I arrived at the ER at Memorial Hermann on March 9, 2019 at 3:30 pm. I expressed that I was feeling extreme pain after getting hit by a car from behind at 35 mph and then being slamned into a vehicle im front of us. The ER made me and my sister wait for over an hour after treating older, white guests within minutes of their arrival. The receptionist told me that they determine who gets called when based on criticality but some of the people called before us had only simply fell or fallen. Despite me crying 3 times while waiting due to pain, my condition (legs, back, and head in extreme pain) wasn't as critical. After complaining multiple times, I overheard a nurse named Rachel say 'I don't give a crap' in response to me saying that I intended to conplain. I do believe that my race and gender were involved in tgat determination. I was seen by a nurse practitioner named Robin who felt my neck and before that I was taken into triage where my blood pressure and heart rate were taken-no real care. My contact info is [protected]@utexas.edu and my nunber is [protected].

Memorial Hermann Health System copd/ extreme pain

Monday Jan 1st.2019
I was brought to the trauma er at memorial herman for copd exasperation and extreme chest pain. This morning when the shift changed i was given dr.adam schindler. From the very beginning he was not willing to give me the small doses of morphine that helped me. Instead he wanted to give me a topical volteron that has warnings not to give to patients with my conditions. Copd as well as CHF. Not only is this medication non effective and harmful, but for hours the doctor has left me in extreme pain and having difgiculty breathing. I know this falls under neglect, so if i cant get this immediately resolved i will file a dispute with the board of medical examiners for him and the joint commission towards memorial hermann. Your immediate attention will be appreciated.

Memorial Hermann Health System bed bug bites while in hospital

I was admitted on 9/26 and was there for 6 days. I was very sick with bacterial pneumonia. The Dr. care was good. The re was only 1 nurse that I had that I felt cared about my care. House keeping was almost non existent. When I got home my back had BED BUG BITES. I have NEVER had this happen to me. I saw my Dr. for F/U on Wed.(2 days from discharge ) she VERIFIED that they were BED BUG BITES. This hospital has only been open for just over 1 Year. I called Patient Relations and they said they looked into the issue and it was found inconclusive.
I WILL NOT EVER RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL TO ANYONE.
I would NEVER had thought I would go to a Hospital in the US and get BED BUGS.
I do have pictures

Memorial Hermann Health System incorrect diagnosis

My name is Therrol Sanders. My phone number is [protected]. My email is [protected]@icloud.com. I brought my daughter, Tierra Elene Mouton ([protected]) to the ER at Memorial Hermann Katy Friday 9/28/18 around 8:00pm for vomiting and stomach pain. She was seen by Dr. Kenneth Chang. Dr. Chang advised me that my daughter had a UTI and prescribed her the antibiotic Cephalexin and Ondansetron. I started giving her the antibiotic Cephalexin 9/29/18. On 9/30 and 10/1 my daughter had extreme diarrhea. I took her to Texas Children's hospital 10/1 and was advised by a doctor there that my daughter never had a UTI. They did a urine sample and there was no trace of an infection. The doctor advised me that my daughter initially must have only had a stomach virus and by Dr. Chang prescribing her antibiotics when she did not have a UTI it caused her to become sick with diarrhea and severe abdominal pain. I immediately stopped the antibiotics 10/1 once the Texas Children's doctor advised me to. I was advised by a Texas Children's Doctor that the lining on my daughter's intestines were thinning because of the diarrhea caused by the antibiotic. I now have to give my child Culturrelle Kids tablets to build her intestine lining as advised by the Texas children's doctor. Dr. Chang caused my child pain, suffering, 2 missed days of school, I also missed 2 days of work because Dr. Chang misdiagnosed my daughter. I also spent money on the medications prescribed by Dr. Chang and I will receive a bill from Memorial Hermann Katy for the ER visit. If I would have continued giving my daughter the antibiotics 3 times a day for 5 days as advised by Dr. Chang, my child could have died from the extreme diarrhea. I want and expect this situation to be rectified and investigated.

Memorial Hermann Health System illegal behavior and sexual assault

Memorial hermann administration
Memorial hermann prison system southwest location

I was an inmate at your prison facility, on 09/08/18, and 09/09/18. I was on the 9th floor, orthopedic area.

During my incarceration there, I was regularly subjected to the following, by your vicious, sadistic prison guards, whom you have cleverly disguised as medical staff.

Forcible detainment

False imprisonment

Subjectgation by forcible use of contraindicated narcotic drugs

Denial of all human and civil rights

Deprivation of basic human needs, food and water

Neglect and indifference by your guards, who were obviously recruited from the ranks of former prison guards at abu graib prison on guantanemo bay, cuba.

Brutal sexual assault by the same prison guards.

Physical force and harrassment

Verbal threats and intimidation

Taunts and bullying

Deliberate falsification of inmate records

I had never been an inmate in your prison facility before this time. I was unaware that your prison facility provided these extra services as a convenience to the inmates.

I will be sure to tell all of my friends and enemies about the widespread abuse and corruption that pervades your institution.

This place would be a nice vacation compared to the state penitentiary. You should advertise your services to the texas dept of criminal justice.

I am sure that they would be delighted to move some of their inmates to your facility for discipline and rehabilitation.

Memorial Hermann Health System dr rita ruiz

Hi,
I had an emergency procedure done back on May 18, 2018. One of the doctors by the name of Rita Ruiz from memorial Hermann NE in Humbles has been calling and harassing me about a check. She called repeatedly on Saturday and even popped up at my home at about 930 am on Saturday 09/15 demanding a check. I am also filing a police report because I have never had a Dr come to my home demanding a check. I also had guest at my home for my daughters birthday party and she discussed this issue in front of all of my guest. This is not only demeaning and embarrassing but it is also a HIPPA violation. My name is Shelicia Goodman [protected] dob 3/24/87

Memorial Hermann Health System nurses physically and verbally abuse patients

Nurse Karima, at the S/W location, ortho floor, should NOT be in healthcare. She should instead pursue her true calling of Prison Guard at Abu Graib Prison in Guatanemo Bay Cuba. She is a vicious sadist who enjoys torturing and verbally and physically abusing helpless patients. She smiles and laughs while doing this.
She kept me in False Imprisonment and physically assaulted me while also keeping me drugged with opiates.
I was admitted to the ER on 09/08/18 for a hip dislocation. After resolving this problem, I was then transferred to the ortho area under her care. When I woke up, I tried to get out of bed. She came running in and YELLED at me NOT to get out of bed. I was completely unaware of any issues.
When I said that I wanted to leave, and I would just get a cab to go home, she and another nurse, confiscated all of my personal belongings, cell phone, keys, money, and my clothes.
No one ever came to talk to me about my situation. No one ever told me that I was a fall risk and should not try to get out of bed. During that day and the next, I was NEVER given any WATER. I was only given one meal to eat that Sat morning, 09/08/18. I was never given any food or water at any other time, for 2 days.
I was constantly YELLED at whenever I moved. NO one ever helped me try to use the call button. I could not find it. I was NEVER told why I was being kept prisoner or why I could not get up. No one ever helped me adjust the bed. I could not figure out how to do this. I could not even find the bedside phone. I couldn't even watch TV. I did not know how to operate the controls, and no one would help me. Everyone just kept enjoying yelling at me and threatening me, with a vicious smile on their faces.
I was drugged with opiates, against my will. I could not understand what was happening to me, or why. Someone gave me a cup of coffee, but did not help adjust the bed so that I could sit up and drink it. I spilled it right away. Then she yelled at me "I TOLD YOU IT WAS HOT".
When I tried to get up, Karima came running in and said that if I kept trying to get up, she would put me in RESTRAINTS.
During Sat 09/08/18, she and another nurse, ran in the room, got ON TOP OF ME, AND H ELD ME DOWN AND FORICBLY INSERTED A CATHETER. This is ASSAULT. AT NO TIME DID I EVER CONSENT TO THIS.
When I was finally discharged from the HELL HOLE, referred as MemorialHerrman Hospital, she laughed at me and said that I needed to fix my hair, and that she would miss me. I am sure that she will, but she will get pleasure from torturing the next helpless patient.

Memorial Hermann Health System medical records

I've attempted on three separate occasions to obtain my brother medical record. My brother passed away on June 29, 2018, at Memorial Hermann hospital and I'm the next of kin, which I've submitted the required documents. I called and thought they provided me all the requirement information to obtain the records. Well, I received a letter stating a testamentary/next of kin is required I resubmitted the document s and they indicated it will be another fifteen business days. Fast forward, I called the department on Friday, August 31st and wanted to follow-up to ensure everything was in good order. The agent stated we received the email document and everything is good. I arrive home and checked my mail and a letter from Memorial Hermann to inform me my brother wasn't seen at the Sugarland location. when I called the agent could've informed me of this error and I would've resubmitted. I resubmitted on Tuesday, September 4th, and called today at 1:30pm. I informed the agent and provided her some background and I could hear her laughing in the background and when I ask to speak with a manager she told me there was not one available in the office. I've been a manager for over twenty-five years and I would never let any of my employees treat a patient/customer the way your company has treated me. I work for a call center for twenty years and this is the worst service I've ever received. I've attempted to call and speak with a manager but have been given the run-around. I expect someone to call me concerning this matter.

Memorial Hermann Health System changed my estimate due after test performed

My husband and I have both spoken to many people in the Memorial Herman billing department with great efforts trying to get this issue resolved. Including a managers, Jennifer and Alex in regards to a change in pricing for a procedure my husband had done by Memorial Hermann 05/01/2017. The following is our issue in which we need resolution please.

Dr. Hand in Houston, TX (Memorial Herman Copperfield) referred my husband to have a CAT scan of his lower abdomen.

We made appointment for this at a location that was at Eldridge near 290 in Houston, Tx. After appointment was made we received a reminder a day before telling us of a balance due for the procedure which was $878.00 in addition to arriving early for check in and instructions to bring Insurance Card and I.D.

My husband went to the appointment and was asked if he fasted, he had not, so they informed him that he would need to come back having fasted. They arranged for him to go to another location the next morning instead of coming back at a later date. *Note he was never advised to fast prior to this time by appointment set up or confirmation call.

There was never a mention of the amount changing for the procedure so he went to the appointment for the test the next morning. No payment was collected up front at this location, only his insurance card and I.D. After the test was completed, he went to check out and was then informed he owed additional amount of $957.69 than the amount previously told of $878.00. He explained he had a voice recording of amount due that proved his amount of owe and played this message for the representative, he ended up only paying the $878.00 believing it was a error and left. The representative suggested he should call billing and get it resolved.

After returning home he called and explained the matter to billing. We did not hear back for a while and that was only with a bill in the mail for the additional amount due. They claim they leave him voice messages but we don't ever receive them or the calls.

We both continued to call billing with attempts to reach upper management with our issue and explain what happened with billing and test. However, the end result was you still owe the amount due, the claim was processed correct and to call Aetna but honestly, the claim was processed correct as we reviewed on the EOB. What was not correct was how Memorial Hermann did not inform us of the correct price. We are now getting told when we call that we will be going to collections since we will not pay the amount due. Our best chance to get help was when my husband called and dealt with a female supervisor/manager named Alex. She had told him the reason it is most likely higher is because the test location moved from test facility to hospital. No one ever told him or us this would increase our portion due when they rescheduled him, this would have made our decision to not do the test very easy at that location. She then told him she would escalate his case to upper billing appeals after offering to reduce his bill 50% but we wanted to appeal again since we felt this is not acceptable because had we known the bill would be this high we would not have opted to get the test done with Memorial Herman, we would have found another facility to get the test. We were told it would be a while to hear back on the bill as they would go to upper management for review. It had been almost 3 months and we never received a phone call or anything other than another bill for full amount once again, no longer the 50% reduction in billing. Please note they say they have called us but we have no record nor do they leave messages.

Today, I called on my husband's behalf to Aetna. I explained our issue and Jason at Aetna asked me if he could call Memorial Hermann Billing to see what could be resolved. I agreed and after speaking with a Memorial Hermann representative, being transferred to a Memorial Hermann Manager and another round of explaining what had happened both the Aetna Rep and myself were told it was my husband's full responsibility since the claim was processed correct. She offered a 25% discount if I accepted to pay in full while on the phone and I declined. She reminded me that we are most likely being sent to collections for nonpayment and thanked me for calling in. The Aetna rep tried to explain that even though medical procedures like testing and surgery etc can't be exact charges by medical providers, they give estimates to patients, however, he stated this estimate originally given to us was lower by 100% in consideration of the procedure being performed and that is not normally the case for large medical groups such as Memorial Hermann, to inaccurately give amounts this low to patients. As the Aetna rep looked over the claim he said, this procedure was claimed in amount of $5, 959.25, he believes they should have had a better idea of what to tell us as far as a portion due for our part to pay. No deductible had even been met so they had obligation to collect this. He recommended me to file a complaint with TDI as he would take this to Aetna to review to see if they could assist us in any way with a resolution of the amount due. I did file a complaint with TDI on July 9, 2018. I am waiting to hear back presently.

We feel strongly that we were misled by the estimate of payment due for the service, we pay all our bills on time and maintain very good credit. We truly believe this is fraudulent behavior on Memorial Hermann's part because of how they advised of new amounts after the test was done. They have a right to charge us a reasonable and customary charge but as a patient, we have a right to accept the responsibilities because it is based on the estimation of charges should anyone to decide if they wish to pursue the procedure or treatment or care. I know estimates can be off by exact amounts by a few dollars but this one is off by a large margin of over 110%. Would anyone expect to be charged over 110% more after the fact, than the original estimate given? Its just truly wrong. Thank you in advance for looking at our case. I hope you can help us. Attached is EOB and few bills I have received and few bills we have received from Memorial Herman.
