Mayo Clinic Dr. Courtney Bennett-cardiologist, director of the cardiac Intensive Care Unit

This doctor's post on social media is disrespectful, uncompassionate, degrading and incompetent. It clearly shows she is not following the Hippocratic Oath "Do No Harm". It also shows that she is not following any recent medical research on the Covid vaccines' adverse reactions. It is uneathical and unacceptable for a person who is a director of an ICU in such a prestigious institution, to say such things. Here is what she wrote: "I can't believe we live in a society of self-centered people who get their medical advice from sources like YouTube and OAN yet beg us to to help them breathe using technology developed by actual science when they're blue and gasping for air. Do me a favor and don't burden our hospitals because you are ignorant. Ask YouTube or OAN for help."
Does she say same things to people who are obese or smoke? Her statement really poses a question - should such a person be a Head of the Cardiac ICU? Or maybe Mayo clinic should find somebody less biased and more ethical? I would not want my life in hands of such a doctor.

Desired outcome: I think she should be fired.

Mayo Clinic Dr. Courtney Bennett - Cardiologist

Comment made on Facebook is not professional. I have serious concerns with her patient care abilities after such a comment. It is not the job of the physician to agree or disagree with their patients choices. It is only their job to provide the best care without doing harm. Clearly she doesn't value the hippocratic-oath she swore to. Our biases should never be revealed to patients or cloud our judgement when providing care.

Desired outcome: Should be disciplined.

Mayo Clinic Doctor crippled me?

Medical Mal practice and Medical negligance-In October of 2018, I was operated on at Mayo Clinic Phoenix for a lumbar fusion. They placed an interbody cage around the L5 S1 Vertebrea (later MRI shows as Mal-Positioned). In doing so they damaged the L5 &S1 nerves leaving me with a Numb left leg and sciatic pain every day for 30 month. A EMG that I requested, and done by a Mayo Doctor, in May of 2019 clearly shows nerve damage. They knew of this and did nothing. I was recently operated on again by a neurosurgeon at University of New Mexico Neuroscience and he removed the cage but stated the nerve damage may be permanent. I feel I am being discriminated against as I am from New Mexico and Not many Attorneys want to take on MAYO clinic. I am not a young man and they have cost me great pain and 2.5 years of my life. I am a cripple thanks to your Doctor Chandan Krishna

Desired outcome: $100,000 for Mal Practice and $250000 for pain and suffering

Mayo Clinic GI Department

I've admired the Mayo Clinic for years, the Vascular surgery department saved my life, but the Gastrointestinal Department is terrible and I would never recommend their team to anyone.

I was in room 3-354 in the Domitilla building at the Mayo In Rochester, Minnesota. I am a Black woman who felt racial tension with 2 nurses, Stephanie and Erin. The first day Stephanie had her very long blond hair all over the place touching my skin, food and face while she did my vitals and IV treatments. I finally asked her to not let her hair touch me and if she could tie it up like most other buses do when they have long hair. She refused had a temper tantrum and we didn't get along with one another.

On my last day on this stay due to the rumors by Stephanie about my behavior, I was told that all my privileges were taken away, such as having food warmed up in the microwave, my emergency call lights were ignored and certain tests like checking to see if I had blood in my bowels. All of my requests for my care were ignored.

When nurse Erin was working 3rd shift and she totally ignored me did not give me my medications, my Blood thinner was not administered and she lied to the Dr.Frederickson that I removed it, that is nonsense.

I couldn't take anymore so I left against medical recommendations when the GI Team brought a camera in my room to watch, this is a violation of my rights and privacy. I ended up paying $150 for transportation back to Minneapolis which should be reimburse back to me.

Desired outcome: I want an apology and my chart to reflect the truth. I want $150 reimburse to me for the transportation.

Thank you Mayo your Doctor made a cripple out of me.

Mayo Clinic Denied access for medication to maintain health

I am a patient Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Beach, Florida; MR# 5-389-329. I am an insulin dependent diabetic I lost my job and health coverage and had been three months without insulin. The Mayo Clinic refuse to see me because I had no health insurance and could not pay. I contacted Novo Nordisk to get help with the cost of insulin. They were able to help me get the insulin I desperately needed. I was told they would submit a form to Endocrinology to fill out and the form needs to be returned to Novo Nordisk and they would mail a year supply of Tresiba and Levemir flex pens along with the needles in four month supplies at a time. I receive two installments then on October 27th at 2:51 pm I received a call from Valletta in Endocrinology at the Mayo Clinic located in Jacksonville Beach Florida stating, " she will no longer fill out the forms required by Novo Nordisk for me to receive the free Insulin they were supplying to me at no charge to the Mayo Clinic. Ms. Valletta was very short tempered and rude to me. Once again, I am without medication in the midst of a pandemic struggling to survive, keep my diabetes under control and prevent myself being infected with Covid-19.
The Mayo Clinic is preventing me form having access to the medication I need to stay healthy and because of their actions they are also putting me at risk should I become infected with Coronavirus by refusing to fill out the paperwork I need to receive free medication that Novo Nordisk will provide for me at no cost to the Mayo Clinic.

Mayo Clinic Unethical behavior

Recently, the President cited the results of a Mayo Clinic Study to justify an announcement of a "new" breakthrough for the treatment of COVID-19, convalescent blood plasma. I understand that convalescent blood plasma has been around for 100 years, and has been used for non-COVID-19 treatment regimens. I presume that the Mayo Clinic consented to this, as there was no one from the Mayo Clinic present at the press conference on this announcement, and the study results were referred to several times. How could you allow anyone to misuse or misrepresent the results of your study, knowing full well (as I have learned from a number of epidemiological doctors) that convalescent blood plasma has "questionable" and unproven efficacy for COVID-19, and there have been no proper clinical trials confirming any efficacious use of this treatment for COVID-19, nor confirmance of the claim that 35% of people treated with this will survive. This is malpractice on your part. The doctors at your clinic who consented to and provided fodder for this announcement should be barred from practicing. The sad reality is that there are are some gullibe people in this country who will rely on this misrepresentation from you, the President and Dr. Hahn, and who will think that they will be in that mythical "35%" of people who will be successfully treated for COVID-19 with this unproven plasma remedy. This is such a shame. A large number of Americans have lost faith in you. And don't give me that posture that you didn't approve of this. I have yet to see anyone from Mayo Clinic coming out telling the public otherwise.

Mayo Clinic overcharged for care

I went in to urgent care for pins and needles feeling in my foot. Talk to a doctor and had some xray done. This cost over $1000 dollars and was report to my health insurance as an emergency. This was not an emergency. I had to wait 20 minutes or more to get in there. Does that sound like an emergency ? How is that an emergency? And who decided that was an emergency. Not me! I want to know why I was charged for emergency services. I think there scam going in Mayo clinics urgent care.
I want the cost adjusted to my health insurance to reflect the truth. It was a routine urgent care appointment.

This happened on Feb 07 2020

Mayo Clinic poor diagnostic treatment

My name is Adam Dzbikowicz and I was seen at the Northwest clinic by Amanda Kelly. I went in because I believe to have a ruptured ear drum on my right ear. I have blood and discharge coming out accompanied by elevated pain. I had told the Dr. my symptoms and was seen. The Dr. prescribed Ciprodex which are ear drops for middle ear infection. When I told the Dr. that I have been taking Ibuprofen 600 and Tylenol but it is not helping. She insisted on Lidocaine drops which I had to go get at St. Marys pharmacy. Once I saw the pharmacist and received information about the medication the pharmacist stated that she "Highly advises against lidocaine drops if the ear drum is ruptured." Apparently the medication in not sterile, has alcohol in it and could cause serious damage. I'm not sure why the Dr. did not know that. They had to reverse the prescription so now I've been "seen" for over 3 hours. I called the North west clinic and asked if there was another solution and was offered Naproxen. I can not stress how much paint I'm still in and going on day 3 of the Ciprodex. My symptoms are not improving at all, as a father of a 2 and 5 year old and working as a assistant supervisor at my job on second shift, I have not been able to get enough rest due to terrible pain and loud ringing in the ears. It is absurd that I am paying so much out of pocket for a "Dr." to tell me what I already know and to take what I already have taken. I would like to be seen by someone who has a better understanding of ear infections, ruptured ear drums and the pain and discomfort that is associated with it.

Mayo Clinic billing department not trustworthy.

I am U. S Military Veteran and a Government employee. I have been calling Mayo since last few weeks about my billing issue without success. Mayo has until Dec 31, 2019 to submit the approval for my 6/27/2018 petscan to my insurance (GEHA) or I am responsible for thousands $. I went to Mayo in Feb 2018 for petscan and a preauthorization was done from GEHA which was good until May2. The second petscan was performed on 6/27/2018 and Mayo never did a preauthorization but had it in system as approved. GEHA said no pre-authorization approval number was given to Mayo. Later, GEHA denied the claim and notified Mayo in 2018 to re-submit as retro approval and as medical necessity. Mayo until now never submitted in timely manner. I called Mayo again on Nov 26 and again on Dec 16, 2019 and had an hour long three way conversation with Mayo and GEHA. I keep calling Mayo and they say they are working on resubmitting the approval to GEHA. This has been going on more than a year. My insurance told me that if they dont submit retro pre auth by Dec 31, they will not cover it anymore. I cant believe I am spending my holidays in stress. I will not go there again.

Mayo Clinic medical

I have been going to Mayo in Jacksonville for half a year and every time it is a terrible experience. I feel as if I'm on a conveyor belt. Move them in and keep moving them along. Surgery is a joke, I woke up with trouble breathing on my second surgery. The nurse did not care just told me to do deep breathing. I was not given the little breathing helper to take home and ended up having to go to a specialist for breathing problems because of the rush surgery. Now I'm on breathing medication. Usually when I have an up coming appointment I will receive an email with instructions but not this last time. I only found out I had upcoming appointment. BY going to the website to make a payment. What if I was-not able to take off on that day I would have been charged for an appointment I never knew about. This is not acceptable. I will never go to Mayo again. Mayonis the absolute worst hospital.

I have seen enough complaints to stay away from Mayo at Jacksonville. I wonder if all of them are the same...I only visit once and got the picture ! Not going back...Very unprofessional . I always knew that Florida is the worse place to seek for medical services because there doctors can do anything wrong and wont get accountable for it. Laws wont protect consumers but the rich and big corporations. There aren't any services, in paper only...There they practice euthanasia with the elderly in hospitals every day ...I have seen it with my own eyes, they killed my Mom and my Dad...and there is nothing you can do as their agencies aren't offering real services. The State health department is a joke, same as the Attorney General's office...It is disgraceful !

Mayo Clinic pre-authorization not obtained by mayo

I am an MS patient who sought care for the 1st time from the Neurology team at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN (July 2019). I met with Dr Tobin and MRI's were ordered but pre-authorization was not obtained - even after I confirmed that it would be. BCBS of NC is now denying the MRI claim. I've appealed the decision of BCBS, twice and they are upholding their denial, advising that because the MRI's were not an emergency, pre-authorization was required. Also noting: that I cannot obtain pre-authorization for myself and that these claims should be written off by Mayo Clinic, as Dr Tobins office is at fault for not obtaining pre-authorization - as they are required to do.

I've spoken to eight different people, including a supervisor on the PAS billing team and every one is dodging fault with excuses. They are claiming that they only obtain pre-authorization, as a courtesy, when asked. They were asked, multiple times. They falsely led me to believe that pre-authorization would be obtained and it was not. They lied. This is provider failure. Mayo Clinic does not care about it's patients.

I cannot stress enough that I would not have had MRI's done, if I had known that pre-authorization was not obtained. I've had 3 years of MRI's done prior and I've never experienced anything like this. I'm shocked by the level of disregard for due diligence, internal process and patient care, as exhibited by Mayo Clinic.

The undue stress of this immensely frustrating situation is exasperating my MS and I'm urgently seeking immediate resolution to this deeply disappointing and unfortunate internal process error. Mayo Clinic did not do their due diligence and fraudulently led me to believe that pre-authorization was obtained when it was not. I genuinely believe Mayo Clinic is at fault and these claims should be written off. It's the right thing to do. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated as I do not wish to escalate this matter of negligence further with legal proceedings.

Mayo Clinic billed for a service not received

My name is Kennedy Allen. Patient number [protected]. Right now, I am being billed $600 dollars for a service I did not receive. On the bill this service is said to have taken place is 06/04/19. I did not receive the serum on this date, nor have I received it since then.
When I spoke to the nurse about allergy shots, I did not get enough information about what the shots really were, just that they were a viable option at this time because I could not do the nasal spray. I was under the impression they were general shots, not special personalized immunotherapy. The staff also did not consult with my neurology doctor- who is a Mayo doctor- as I am a chronic migraine sufferer, and I thought that my providers would be in contact with each other to make sure there would be no interaction problems. There also was no pre-authorization with my insurance company to see if it would cover this treatment or how much of this treatment it would cover. This treatment is very cost prohibitive.
I had been told that insurance should cover this treatment completely, so I did investigate insurance paying for it. I did not continue that path since I did never actually receive the therapy and the other reasons listed above, I did not continue to pursue the idea of having insurance pay for it.
At no point did I set an appointment to have this treatment done. I should not have to pay for a treatment I did not receive. I have also been in contact with the billing department on a few occasions and have been told have been told that I am responsible for the bill.

Mayo Clinic billing

Dr. Mathew Neal is a top rate doctor.
The Mayo Clinic billing department is either inept or bordering on fraudulent practices.
Due to severe back problems, Dr. Neal ordered an MRI and a C-Scan.
For some reason the MRI Dr, Neal ordered, required me to sign a Notice of Non Coverage in the event the MRI was a frivolous procedure. This protects Medicare from being billed inappropriately. I have had numerous MRI'S over the past six (6) years and have never had a bill declined.
When I contacted Mayo billing dept regarding the wrong Medicare code on the billing, i was told to contact the coding dept. The coding department would not provide me with the Medicare code that was placed on Dr. Neal's order. Coding department told me I had to contact Accounting Services to obtain the billing code. Account Services (Ms. Bridgette Hulzel was very helpful, but stated I need to contact the Billing Department. I informed her the Billing Department (that I had an appointment with just 30 minutes before) was the department to obtain Dr. Neal's coding. Basically, this was a run-a-round in order to defeat me from getting the $1, 946.00 re-billed through Medicare. I understand this is a practice used by Mayo in order to make more money by billing me full price, rather than settle for the Medicare scheduled payment amount.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a scam used for people on Medicare.
The advanced beneficiary notice of noncoverage that I signed was contradictory to the options that were available. I would hate to think that Dr. Neil was aware of this seemingly fraudulent practice in order to make more money for Mayo

Mayo Clinic website

I had a chance to visit the website of Mayo hospital during my research on good websites. All look fine in terms of usability and other important aspects except that your team had probably not turned off the Google ad sense on your website page. Just attached the screenshot for your reference. I believe this would not be intentional n whoever had missed this will be dealt generously as we all make mistakes.

Mayo Clinic physician in the medical oncology department

While we have had many exceptional experiences at Mayo Clinic both with their physicians, surgical skills and professionalism, this incident at Mayo Phoenix was appalling and left us scared to work with Dr. Mohamed Sonbol in support of our lives in the Medical Oncology department.

My husband was diagnosed with a horrible disease that has high levels of morbidity - Pancreatic Cancer. This diagnoses has been very difficult to deal with from the start for the whole family.

From the start, this fellow MD treated us respectfully and we felt he gave us his support as an MD. My husbands FDA approved 1st line treatment appeared to be working where over time it failed "Folfirinox".

After this, my husbands CA19-9 had sky rocketed from 112 at the time of initial diagnosis at Mayo to 900 after this first line concluded. Also, the FDG uptake levels increased by over 25%.

We were offered a second line treatment of Gemcitibine, Abraxane and Cisplatin. The success rate of this treatment is roughly 15% positive outcomes. We expressed our concerns with the chosen treatment and in fact after only one week of administration, the tumor began to spread to the bowel and the CA19-9 marker reached 1000. An alternate regiment was not given.

We sought out alternative care and my husband completed a line of SBRT treatment elsewhere. Afterwards, our goal was to allow Mayo to monitor results month to month and allow us the opportunity to meet with an esteemed surgeon at Mayo Rochester named Dr Truty. He has altered the lives of so many people and given them years to live and provided his patients with the hope of long term survival. We were hoping that perhaps my husbands tumor would be deemed resectable and if not, live to enjoy life without constant chemo treatments that prevented him from any form of quality of life and then move into a clinical trial with an immunotherapy drug that would give us hope or moved to a new line of treatment after perhaps up to 2 years that got approved simply as a timing factor of evolution of medicine.

We returned to Dr Sonbol for observation post the radiation therapy and the visit was just horrifying. He indicated that he "would no longer act as the quarterback on our behalf" between the surgeon at the Rochester location and Phoenix location. We asked how this spoke to quality of care as a wholistic approach in the best interest of the patient? We were happy to meet with Dr Truty to discuss his assessment on resectability, but the way we were spoken to raised the hair on our necks and we would have expected a wholistic patient approach between the two sister locations.

He continued to chastise us about having "too many cooks in the kitchen" and going to the other institution which met our needs and completed the SBRT treatment. He insinuated that we should leave Mayo Phoenix and get further treatment elsewhere. We as patients have the right to seek multiple opinions and use other avenues which may lead to life changing events with this horrible disease. His tone and demeanor left us trembling and very uncomfortable.

While we have no desire to leave Mayo and choose to remain in AZ, we expect the highest quality of care and hope this new attending physician is reprimanded and a new Medical oncologist assigned to our critical care.

We cannot guarantee that we will not travel to other institutions as they all have varying clinical trials and may serve our purpose to save the life of my husband. We do however, expect the physician at Mayo researching trials on clinicaltrials.gov and working with us to save a life.

Yury and Renee A.

Mayo Clinic appointment

I was refused help from Jacksonville FL facility because I have Medicare. I hope as injured 3 years ago in a fall resulting with a broken hip. The hospital that operated left me with foot drop and severe sciatic nerve damage. I was told you guys are the very best but denied an appointment from you. I thought you were a non profit organization to help people? It seems all the good things I've heard about you are not true?

Mayo Clinic approval letter to proceed with arthroscopic knee surgery

My name is Robert J. Breidel. I have emphysema and I recently had a stent put in for a blockage on my RCA. I recently tor my meniscus and it requires surgery. In order for my orthopedic doctor to perform the surgery he needs an okay from my cardiologist and my Pulmonologist. That was no problem for my cardiologist but my pulmonologist (Dr. Duolohary) is on maternity level and no one there was willing to give me the okay. My surgery is in 2 days and no one there was willing to help me. This a huge inconvenience to say the least. It is amazing to me that an establishment of that size and scope cannot draft a letter stating I can have arthroscopic surgery on my knee. I aclled the assistant I had spoken to the day before said they weren't willing to do what I requested and I am pretty sure they were not even going to call me back. Thoroughly disgusted.
