They always mislead people when signing up, as well as cancellation won't be through unless you email in the cancellation form. they continued charging and charging not including the fact that we also have to pay first and last month membership. what kind of service is that? and when we called to let them know that we have cancelled everything last month...

LA Fitness International awful gym

To anyone who wants to sign up for a gym, do not go to la fitness! Here's why:

I was not a member of la fitness before this, so dan, the employee who signed me up, told me that I needed to open an account and pay the registration fee, first and last monthly fees, along with other fees that are associated with being a member, before I was able to sign up for training sessions. Disappointed in the money I had to pay up front, to only be a gym member to use a trainer for 2 months, I paid the $300 fee, even when I told him I wasn't going to use the gym itself, only to utilize the trainer. After the membership aspect was taken care of, he proceeded to tell me about training session packages. I specifically wanted to do 1 or 2 months worth of training at la fitness only. Dan was well aware of this because I mentioned this numerous times during our meeting together. He told me that it'll be no problem for me to sign up for a year's worth of training and told me after 2 months, to call and cancel my account. I specifically asked him if I will have any problems cancelling my account early and if I was responsible for a cancellation payment or any other type of payment after the 2 months was up, and he confidently told me "no, everything will be taken care of then."

After the 2 months of training was up, and a couple hundred dollars later, I cancelled my la fitness account using the online website without any complication, assuming that my training account was linked to my membership account and that too, will also be cancelled. I was then charged another $45 the following two months after my account was already cancelled. I called la fitness and the woman who helped me credited my account one time, only for $45, when it should have been $90. I explained I only wanted to be a member for 2 months and I already paid up front the first and last months fees and should not be charged for 2 additional months. I tried contacting the manager numerous times, leaving my name and number to correct this situation. I was told each time that he will call me back. When I called back a couple days later, the manager, tom, was finally available. He told me that I had to speak with another member of the team to get the other $45 credited back to my account, which that person is not there at the moment. I told him my frustration about this situation, but he just reiterated that I needed to speak with this person to get that credited back to my account.

I soon found out from la fitness that I was responsible to pay 50% of the remaining balance after I cancelled my training account. One important step dan never mentioned to me while I was signing up. The terms of the contract were not explained properly and I had been misled from a supposed "trained" employee. After I found this information out, I went back to speak with this employee, only to find out he does not work at la fitness anymore! I called the training manager and general manager of la fitness numerous times, again, without any call backs. Finally, when I did get a hold of them, the only thing they were able to tell me was to call corporate and explain my situation. This is the reason I was charged for another 2 months at $45 each time was due to the fact that my training account was not cancelled, even though my la fitness account was cancelled. I spoke with 2 or 3 different people from corporate who claimed they were managers and were not understanding about my situation. They were all very cold and accused me of not reading my contract thoroughly and asking questions to the la fitness employee. They were disrespectful and just mentioned over and over again that they were able to suspend my account for a month, then, I was to pay the 50% of the remaining balance the following month — almost $1000! That is the only thing they were able to do for me.

Never did any of them say "i'm sorry this happened to you," instead they pretty much verbally attacked me!

Why can't a person sign up with a trainer instead of becoming a member of the gym, if they do not plan to utilize the gym any other time?
Their employee made a significant error while opening up a new account and they have the responsibility as a large, well known company to fix the situation and see that a reasonable solution can be provided.

Both the gym and training managers at the springfield la fitness I went to, are incompetent and lazy and "pass the buck" to other employees when they are unaware of what to say or do. I was under the impression the la fitness employee who signed me up was trained and competent in his position and would offer the full facts before signing a potential customer. I would also assume the managers would help a customer and not have them call back on numerous occasions to get an answer to their question.

On top of this, I called corporate one morning, only to be on hold for 10 minutes, when a voice message comes on and says the office is closed until 9am pacific time. Why was I on hold for that long just to be told by an answering machine that the offices are closed?!
So, later on I called my local club to get the name and number of the district manager — thinking they would definitely have it. They had no email address or name they could give me!
This time, I called corporate back later (Business hours, now), to get the district manager's name and email address — only to find that no one had it! This is corporate that i'm calling and no one has the district manager's email address? After being transferred from person to person — someone was able to give me the email address and name — only when I emailed my complaint letter, did it bounce back. Again, I called corporate up again, and some gentleman heard my frustration and gave me the correct email address.
2 weeks went by and I have not heard anything yet from the district manager. I sent another email, again without a response. This is the district manager we're talking about here — shouldn't he be checking his emails frequently? So, while I was on vacation I had to call corporate yet again because I have been back and forth with a billion people for over a month about this situation, to complain to that "manager" about the situation and mentioned the district manager has not contacted me back. Surprisingly, after I brought up the word "lawyer" and "writing to magazines and newspapers" about my ordeal, the very next day I got a call and email from the district manager. He said he never got my 2 other emails... (Yeah right). He too was very cold and not understanding. The whole 45 minute long phone call, I was pretty much defending myself.

Overall, things went my way after I mentioned writing to local newspapers and magazines.

Worst place ever! Do not sign up with la fitness!

LA Fitness International scam and service

July 25th, I spoke to Brandon Hith. I wanted to hire a trainer. Then, he told me that the payment was $4oo something for the season. And then the next morning, I canceled my trainer and the guy at the front desk told me to call Brandon Hith. I've been waiting and waiting for his call but he hasn't been calling me. And then I call him again, and he answered. I told him that I wanted to cancel my request to hire a trainer. And he told me that I already canceled and that I didn't have to go there. I said okay. My mom went to the bank today. She checked her money and she's wondering who has been withdrawing money from her account. The bank told her it was an L.A. Fitness Trainer. They took her money, $688.76. I called L.A. Fitness. I am worried about this and I canceled my account already. I talked to the manager, Adam Mendoza, and I explained what happened. That I hired a trainer on the 25th of July. The next day, I canceled. And Adam Mendoza is being rude to me on the phone regarding this issue and he hung up on me. He told me that he didn't know me. I called him back again, he told me that, he didn't know who I was. I went down there to the gym, to fix this problem. He was so angry with me. And I explained what happened when I purchased a trainer. He kept telling me that I can't cancel my agreement. But when I talked with Brandon Hith, he told me it's already been canceled on the day I called him, July 26th. I went back to the gym again today to make sure they weren't taking money from my mother's account and I spoke to Brandon Hith. He said he didn't remember me or the day I called when I canceled my trainer. I told him that I never recieved any paperworks from him. The paperworks they gave me today, August 2nd, has all the wrong information according to my account. And Brandon didn't give me any paperworks on the day I spoke to him, July 25th, at all.

This manager named Adam Mendoza, he doesn't any respect towards to customer. He's very rude, hanging up on the customer and he doesn't care. What kind of manager is he? He's not supposed be that way. He's the manager! I don't like this manager, never will.

This trainer named Brandon Hith is a liar, he didn't give me any paperworks, and is rude as well. I speak to him on the phone and he tells me that my request to hire a trainer is canceled but when I visit him in person, he doesn't remember any of it at all, he doesn't know who I am, and he doesn't recall ever talking about hiring a trainer in the first place.

Brandon and Adam have both been rude, rude, rude! I know I might sound repetitive but I can't accept the way they treated and the way things are right now. My complaint goes toward: 715 N Landing Way, Renton, WA, 98055.

Hope my complaint was successful for you. And please help me get back my mother's money to her account. If you have any questions or concerns please call me or email me.

I think this particular L.A. Fitness is not organized or truthful. No service, as well.

I used to work for LA Fitness...I've never worked for such a sleepy and horrible company. I was shocked at all the horrible things I saw employees do there, and get away with! The managers there encourage this behavior and even do the same horrible things? I worked with Adam Mendoza too when I first got hired. Good luck! I hope he gets what he deserves!

==CROOKS AND THIEVES===
FORGED MY SIGNATURE! & STOLE $7, 500.+ USD!

Just found out today that ADAM MENDOZA from the LA Fitness in Renton, WA (Google his name and see what you find) now relocated to the LA Fitness in Covington had forged my signature on a $12, 722.81 + personal trainer membership. Apprently LA Fitness recently relocated him to the Covington, LA Fitness and promoted him to General Manager!

I absolutely will be pressing charges as I have opened a criminal investigation with the Police. I called my bank and stopped all payments to LA Fitness, called LA Fitness Corporate and they told me to take it up with my bank! I have 2 contract documents that clearly show my forged signature. I am considering suing for minimally 3x damages + attorney fees and pursuing pressing FULL CHARGES against the CROOKS that forged my signature and charged up my card so they could make their petty commission and get promoted then relocated out to the Covington, LA Fitness. People, there are 3 names that you need to be aware of from my personal experience.

1. Tab Birdsell - General Manager at the LA Fitness in Renton - (Total sleaze from my experience.. will jerk you around if given the chance).
2. Sean Smith - Operation Manager at the LA Finess in Renton - (When you call to pause your account, he will reactivate it without your authorization and run up your card! Beware of this crook!)
3. Adam Mendoza - Marketing Manager now promoted to General Manager at the LA Fitness in Covington - (This is the crook who forged my signature for a contract for $12, 722.81!)

People, please learn from my lesson and DO NOT do business with LA Fitness, period. The company obviously has no consideration for whom they hire or for their customers financial security. If your currently a customer, you CAN NOT afford to take the chance that LA Fitness will put a crook in charge of your account or relocate a crook who will forge your signature for a $12, 000.+ "Personal Trainer membership" and run up your card! Espeically in todays economy, not worth the head aces, stress or run around.

If this matter doesnt get resolved by LA Fitness corporate, I will be going on a mini campaign against LA Fitness by letting people know the experience I've had. Oh.. I have all the documentation needed if anyone would like to see for themselves what the above mentioned crooks have done. PEOPLE PLEASE BEWARE!

LA Fitness International treats their staff like dirt

LA Fitness likes to work their staff more than 8 hrs a day and one day off a week, but LA Fitness does NOT pay overtime! They get away with treating their employees like dirt, and they do not follow labor laws, no breaks, no lunches...just work 14 hours shifts and then don't get paid for it! WOW! If anyone is thinking of joining a third world gym go ahead! Only the big shots make their big bucks...the employees who work the gyms are treated like dirt! LA fitness is a nest of salesmen DO NOT GO THERE, unless you want to be harrassed!

LA Fitness International run around when canceling. inadequate equipment.

For at least 6 months to the last year, I have complained to management that there is never enough 10-12 pound handweights available. Generally there is one set of 10's and one set of 12's and they are being used. I have more weights at home than the gym has. So yhis said, I decided to cancel. This was a very big hassle. I was told I needed to mail a certified letter in order to not be charged monthly fees. they were not able to cancel over the phone or would not allow me to fax anything. Finally after multiple threats and informing them that they could not legally continue to charge my account, they relented and did cancel over the phone. Very bad business practice and unprofessional behavior.

LA Fitness International cancellation policy

Me and my family joined the club here in Morrow GA sometime towards the end of last year. After 3 or so months we decided to cancel for personal reasons. I went to the club I signed up with to cancel and was told that it could not be done there but needed to fill out forms for each of us and mail it to a given address. I did as asked, placed all 3 forms for each of my family in the same envelope and mailed them.

You would think they would cancel all of us. But come to look at my bank statements 6 months, they are still charging for one membership. I called the gym to find out why this was continuing and was told that most likely they never received one of the cancellation. Remember all cancellations were in the same envelope. I was however told that this would be taken care of and I would not be charged any more. Come to look at my bank statement this month, I find more charges.

So here we go again. ..., I wander how many people have the same problem.

I have been a member of LA Fitness (Glendale, Indianapolis) for the past couple years. Due to hard economic times I decided to cancel my monthly membership. My monthly membership of $34.99 was being withdrawaled directly from my personal checking account each month. To cancel a membership you have to visit their website, download and print a cancellation form, and mail it to their offices in Irvine, California. I followed this procedure 3 months ago. To my surprise I found out that I was still being charged to this very day. When I called the local LA fitness they asked if I had received an email notification after I sent the letter. I said I had not. They said there was nothing they could do to reimburse me for the months I never attended the gym. They did suggest to mail in the same cancellation form but send it "certified mail".

That afternoon a went to the post office to send my cancellation form "certified mail". As I did this, the woman working the desk mentioned that I was probably the 8th person to send a cancellation letter to LA Fitness "certified mail" today! I was shocked to find this out. It seems to me that LA Fitness may be deliberately not canceling accounts and continuing to take former members money. Could this many cancellation letters really get lost in the mail? I think not.

This is a complete rip off!

Their cancellation policy is awful. You must print out a form but in order to print out a form, you must have your checking account number. It will not accept your membership I.D. It is all a ploy to postpone cancelling. The staff are not friendly and keep you holding when calling for information regarding cancelling your membership. I threatened them with the Better Business Bureau but they didn't seem to care.

I will never join that gym again. The place is dirty. The members are pigs and the showers are a disgrace.

On Saturday January 19th we went to talk about getting membership at the la fitness off of hwy 59 in Sugarland. Upon arrival we had to wait to talk to somebody and when we did the first thing he discussed was money. $159 intimation and $29.99 a person. (Me & my fiancé) so after signing an agreement paying first & last months dues and initiation fee we then talked to a personal trainer because that was what we were joining the gym for. They told us 2 sessions a week would be $195 and we told him we couldn't offered that. So we decided not to get membership but before we could leave they informed us our payment had been processed and we would have to call Monday and talk to a manger and get a refund. Well the refund came on Friday $66. Where is the rest of it? We. Didn't workout, we didn't even get to see the facility. We didn't do a free training session. They are so money hungry they took our money as soon as they could. I work part time and go to school full time on top of trying to plan & save for a wedding. So taking $225 from us is not very considerate nor is it good for business

L.A. Fitness is a scam - one thing you could do if they're continually withdrawing from your checking or bank account is to change that account and then L.A. Fitness has nothing to withdraw electronically from. Why should you log in and create an account online when you would like to cancel membership? It's highway robbery and illegal. L.A. Fitness Gym is a business with no corporate headquarters?

The class action settlement referred to above applies only to California residents who were members of California gyms. A new national class action has been filed concerning LA Fitness' cancellation practices. Here's information concerning that case:

The law firm of Berger & Montague, P.C., located in Philadelphia PA, is currently prosecuting a class action suit against L.A. Fitness International LLC in federal court. The suit alleges that L.A. Fitness’ cancellation procedures for its monthly membership agreements are unfair and deceptive because members are charged additional monthly dues even after they have attempted to cancel their memberships. L.A. Fitness denies these allegations. We are currently gathering facts in support of these claims. If you have any information concerning L.A. Fitness’ cancellation procedures or practices, please contact Kim Walker toll free at [protected] or [protected], or by e-mail: info@bm.net. I am about to cancel my membership and read all of these complaints and got very nervous. But in my research I came across this:

https://www.gymsettlement.com/gym/Default.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

There is a class action lawsuit against LA Fitness. If you have been wronged by LA Fitness, this will help you get your money back.

I agree, LA Fitness does make you feel trapped with their cancellation policy. Be warned about inviting a guest too. Harassment to join is on the agenda, even before your guest has a chance to enjoy the atmosphere. My guest was not able to enjoy his visit, why would he of joined? He had been considering it before we walked in.

In February 2009, our daughter (just turned 18 and a few days) signed a personal training contract with the LA Fitness located on Southport Rd in Indianapolis. Knowing that she would be going off to college, she wanted to know if she would be able to cancel the contract when she left for school. The person signing her up called Buddy (now a VP - I think I know why), who informed them that our daughter could do that if she sent a written request (never said anything about certified mail) along with documentation showing a new address. So far so good other than the fact that they are taking $120/month from a girl still in high school (without her parent's knowledge) on top of her monthly dues. FYI these charges equalled the sum of about 20 hours of work at her after school jobs. Now tell me, would a respectable organization sign a high schooler up for such a program?!

In June, our daughter submitted a letter to the local club as she had been instructed along with her college acceptance letter and her new address. She closed her letter by asking the club to contact her if something more was required of her. Over the next two months, she was in contact with one of the trainers who told her he "was handling it". Supposedly, he sent the letter to Buddy and called him a couple of times. Evidently, our daughter did not send it via certified mail or in an official format to "Corporate". NOBODY HAD THE DECENCY to inform her that anything else was required. Why should they? LA Fitness was getting more money.

We, mistakenly, were thinking everything was taken care of and that somebody was actually trying to get a refund for the month of August. At least that was our thinking until we saw new charges for $34.99 and $120 hit her bank account causing it to go negative.

My wife and I went in to find out what was going on and to get a refund (lol). While there, somebody called Buddy, who either denied or forgot the phone conversation. We ended up settling for a buydown of an additional $180 which the club felt was generous.

We were told that an email would be sent that confirmed the cancellation. When no email came, I became more suspicious. Since no email arrived, I went back to the club to have them sign papers acknowledging that no further charges would be incurred. To their credit, they did sign these.

More than one person that worked for LA Fitness acknowledged that they knew our daughter was leaving for school and that she had been working to get this taken care of in the manner in which she had been instructed. When asked why they did not call her if they knew she needed to do something else, they said it was "corporate policy". When I made the comment that it was blatantly obvious that this cumbersome (idiotic) cancellation policy is designed to get a few extra months of payments out of people, they kind of shrugged and shook their heads "yes".

As a side note, another woman came in to cancel her agreement and they told her that she woould have to send a letter by certified mail. They commented that it was no big deal, "only 51cents". SHE WAS RIGHT THERE! HOW IDIOTIC!

WHAT A RACKET?! I will do everything I can to spread the word of this callousness and injustice.

LA Fitness International dirty restrooms

For the last couple of months the restrooms at LA Fitness in Chino are unsanitary and unhealthy. The trash cans are full in the stalls and outside. The trash cans in the stalls are overflowing with female used products. The toilets are dirty. There are dirty paper towels all over the floor. Hair inside the sink. The whole locker room is completely disgusting. So they cut down the hours of the cleaning people... they don't know how to spend their money... they hire high tech DJs to play loud music while everyone that is working out has their IPOD full blast so they can't hear the DJs music.. makes no sense. Time to change to 24 Hour Fitness down the street.

LA Fitness International rude sales rep

Me and my wife went to the la fitness on june 13, 2010, located at:

Diamond bar ii

20801 golden springs dr.

Diamond bar, ca 91789

[protected]

Sales rep: michael / mike

Height: around 180cm

Characteristic: tattoos on his left palm.

After a short while waiting, we were introduced by a salesman named “michael”. he then brought us to his desk on the right (from the main door) and was asked to come in and join him, so we sat down facing him and the desk.

First he asked, “so what brings you here, you looking to get skinnier, or buff like arnold?” we laughed a little, then I asked, “just need to know your pricing so we know how much we are talking about.”

Then he mentioned that he needs to know what our intention is so he can set up a schedule and pricing and so on, so he went on and asked to my wife, “what’s your weight? how much are you planning to lose?” then my wife shortly answered, “oh, i’m not sure about my weight, I haven’t looked recently.”

Then I whispered to her, “do you want me to just ask how much so we know?” she nodded.

I asked michael again, “we just need to know the pricing, because we are doing comparison between fitness clubs and doing some thinking”, then michael said, “so you’ve went to other clubs and what are their pricing?” I then explained, “no, we haven’t gone to any other club, in fact, we are planning to go to the 24 hour fitness nearby and ask them the same question.”

Then he replied, “why don’t you go there and check it out”.

Then we both nodded, went straight out the door, without looking back, thinking in our head,

“we’ll never go back to la fitness again.”

So michael, here’s your letter of promotion, “congrats, now everyone know what you said to la fitness potential customers.”

LA Fitness International rude employee

My friends and I play racquetball Wed. & Fri at 8 am in Escondido's LA fitness. The courts there are always in use by both men and women Mon. Wed & Fri.

Yesterday, for unknown reasons, the facility manager (housekeeping) decided that would be a good time to clean courts, and interrupted our use. (kicked us out)

She had just cleaned one court and had taken ours, now two courts were out of use.

As long as she has worked there and before, the courts are always in use by 8:00 am and vacant on Tues. and Thurs. mornings. Why does she need to clean on those days?

About a week before, the same employee came into the womens shower area and ordered everyone out immediately, because some service needed to be performed. She didn't give anyone a courtesy warning, like, "We need to perform some repairs, please be out in 15 minutes." (The facility manager's name is Sylvia)

I've documented instances where the same accumulation of trash has been left in the cup holders of the treadmills for up to three days.

Also, about three weeks ago, I let the front desk people know about a certain treadmill not working. It still hasn't been repaired.

LA Fitness International imposible of cancellation

I went in person to Cancel membership, we went out of the country and just got back and moved to another state. I was checking my bank acct and six months after they are still charging and off course they don't have anything on file saying that I went in person to cancel so they will not credit me. Imposible to CANCEL membership even if they say it is month to month.

Went to LA Fitness Pearland 12/12/2012 afternoon
Spoke to the female receptionist who was
Friendly n professional; made me comfortable
N feel welcomed. As she enters info re me in the
Computer For a sales rep for me to talk to, a B/male 30-ish sales rep
Walks up n talks to her. a B / male 70-ish walks up to
to the counter next to me m this rep says to him what can i do for you
Man! i mean no respect towards this mani ! n the
Attitude! he says something else to him n points him
Toward the sales area. he then looks at the computer
N tells me i can have a seat. I told him i was still talking to the receptionist
n he says she is done entering my info. This guy has no clue
Where we are in our conversation, what we r
Talking about, doesnt say who he is except
Be rude. The female rep apparently was being
Relieved for a restroom break n he didnt like it.
This isnt the first time i've gone there interested
To sign up because it is closest to my residence, but their rudeness n gutter or ghetto
Talk accompanied by an attitude is not what
Care to put up with much less pay for. They also have
No hesitation to trash other gyms as ghetto,
Low class, etc.

rumor has it, employees do steal ***from a friend who works inside LA Fitness***, But who can prove that. No camera/picture taking in lockers. I strongly suggest LA fitness to overhaul the locker rooms.

The hinges are weak. Some of the lockers pop out on the hinge when you yank the doors outwards.

I just got 150 stolen, lucky the theft left my CC/ID. I am in NY Lake NY park location. I know it was not the first time. I was warned before I joined the gym by friends.

Searching on google yields many more locations has the same problem.

Love the gym. Don't feel comfortable leaving anything in the locker. Complained to headquarters, but I don't think they will do anything. I mean, why will they? it cost money/time to overhaul the lockers.

I was just robbed recently as well. All of my personal belongings, my car keys, the keys to my house, my wallet with all of my ids, $60.00 in cash, a northface jacket and a gymn bag with all of my boxing gear. After reviewing the tapes, I cannot rule out that it is an LA fitness employee that committed the crime.

LA Fitness requires all individuals in the building to log in. Each person must have a picture in the LA fitness database. Therefore, LA fitness should be able to check their records and see if there is #1 A new member #2 A member new to the site iif they have a multi-site membership. #3 what that person my look lik and other personal iformation and #4 if their presence is consitent with other robberies at any other location. #5 If someone can identify the perpatrator, they should be able to look at the recent logins and see if they recognize the individual.
What good is the login if LA fitness does not use the information to keep our personal property secure?

LA Fitness International instructors that don't show up

The LA Fitness clubs at Clearwater and Palm Harbor Fl have had classes scheduled on Monday and Thursday morning at 8:30 am and for the past two weeks the classes are still scheduled on their computer and class schedule posted at the clubs, however no instuctor shows up for the class. Contact with the front reception desk to get answers provides no results. Contact with an alleged supervisor results in they will check with the proper manager but the results are the same. Scheduled classes but no instructors.

LA Fitness International poor management

I have concerns about the management of the LA Fitness facility located on Montgomery Rd. in Altamonte Springs, FL. I do not feel I am getting the services that I am paying for. Today, I attended the 9:00 am Aqua Fit class only to find out that there was no instructor. Yesterday, Fri. May 14th, I attended the 11:00 am Senior Fit class only to discover that there was no microphone for the instructor to use. Two weeks ago, on a Tues., I went to the 9:00 am Aqua Fit class only to discover that the pool was closed for maintenance - with no previous notification to the members. One of the Aqua Fit instructors resigned due to poor management. My assumption is that, as with many buisnesses, LA Fitness has cut back on management positions; However, I am paying for classes and services that I am not receiving. I use the facility 5 days a week but if this continues, I will seek another fitness facility.

i am upset with the LA Fitness in Altamonte Springs. I went on the internet and printed out a 10 day pass. When I went in the club they took my pass and emailed me a new pass. Later I noticed that pass expired in 6 days instead of 10 days. I called to ask if that would be a problem, they said someone would call me back. 2 1/2 hours later I called again, the person that spoke with me said if it says it expired then its expired. I had really wanted to join this fitness center since I have friends that go there. I won't be joining now. I also didn't care for Cory Sheffield he was the person who sent me the guest pass with the wrong date on it. I don't think he thought he could make a mistake.

LA Fitness International unprofessional and rude staff

Since I began working out at LA Fitness over a week ago, I have been appalled by the lack of professionalism at the Michigan Rd & Conway Rd location.

It is a pity, because the facility itself is wonderful and fully equipped. Yet the staff are rude and lack professionalism.

Several times over many days LA Fitness staff at the Michigan and Conway Rd location have been dribbling a basketball through the workout area (both the carpeted floor with the weight machines and on the concrete floor in the free weight area - annoying and aggravating gym members).

Nevertheless the young men carry on happily as if the health club were for their personal enjoyment and continually disregard the guests.

Tonight when working out in the evening four LA Fitness staff (three black men and one tall white guy with a gotee) were working out and playing around in the free weight area and loudly dribbling their basketball.

Instead of racking weights and making themselves useful as is the norm at most health clubs, LA Fitness staff at Conway and Michigan linger around to chat with the girls, play among themselves and have fun.

Another example of behavior greatly lacking professionalism is as the time approached 10pm on Saturday, the white guy got on the microphone with a rough voice and said, "The gym's closed in 10 minutes." As soon as it was 10pm, another black employee got on the microphone and said, "Leave! Get out!"

A third sign of disrespect and behavior lacking professionalism is the manner in which the cleaning staff tidy up the bathrooms and mop the floors.

The cleaning guy (who appears to be Indian or Pakistani, around 50 years old or so) smells heavily with tobacco smoke - so much so I wonder if he even washes his clothes.

Even worse the floors get mopped well before closing time and are slick with no warning signs for members walking through to use the bathrooms. To the gym's credit the floors and bathrooms are cleaned seemingly well, but a bit slippery to walk upon without warning of them being wet.

Another complaint at LA Fitness is (unlike other health clubs) guests rarely bring towels and after using the equipment rarely bother bother to ever wipe them down with a paper towel afterward. This unsanitary manner makes the health club a breeding ground for infection and disease.

On May the 6th, one employee walking around on the gym floor (between 9pm to 10pm) lacked knowledge about the equipment and its whereabouts when two ladies needed help finding a missing hook to use the chest and shoulder machine.

Since many of the staff lack class and professionalism, so too have I experienced the same with a few of the members at the LA Fitness on Michigan & Curry Ford.

One evening a black gentleman talked on his mobile phone while using a cardio machine. He chatted on his phone loudly for a half an hour while other members painfully exercised around him and endured his disrespectful, self-centered behavior.

Tonight another guy (black) working out at the gym had his mobile phone playing music, although the LA Fitness music was already playing on the loud speaker.

I know by now those reading will think this guy is racist because I mentioned the ethnicity of the fellows acting disrespectfully. Not true. I voted for President Obama and befriend many black people in America, Africa, Haiti and elsewhere in the world where I have lived and traveled. I also have black friends in the United States.

In fact I have traveled to many war-torn nations throughout Africa on five separate trips, the first of which I slept in a tent for two of the three months I was there in the "bush" villages where there was no electricity and sometimes I was the first white man ever to be seen there.

So the argument that "He is racist doesn't fly." The fact is LA Fitness employees at Michigan and Conway need to be instructed in social grace, manners and professionalism.

As for the Pakistani or Indian looking gentleman responsible for cleaning, he seems polite and professional. He just smells a bit smokey to be working in a health club, but hey, pray for him maybe he will grasp the importance of good health as a result of working there. Nevertheless walking by him is pretty toxic to smell and breathe in the third-hand smoke on his body.

Oh yeah, I've been to India 5 times (lived there nearly a year) and have been to Pakistan twice ...so the racist argument doesn't work.

I only mentioned the ethnicity of the employees to help LA corporate management identify those needing some further training.

The LA Fitness female staff are kind and respectful, although many look spaced out mentally in their own world behind the front desk when I enter the health club. They don't greet guests happily with a smile upon arrival and half-heartedly do so when guests take the initiative to greet them.

Certainly this is not the norm for all LA Fitness clubs. The LA Fitness staff at other locations such as Colonial Drive (Orlando) are more proactive and professional.

The LA Fitness at Conway & Michigan for example on May 6th during the evening had used paper towels laying on the carpeted gym floor, which no employees who repeatedly walked by them ever bothered to pick up.

Again another sign the staff at LA Fitness at Conway & Michigan see the gym as their personal playground for their use and pleasure, rather than a place to professionally conduct business with integrity and represent a reputable company.

So to summarize, LA Fitnes at Conway & Michigan have:

1. Staff who are not friendly, not courteous and not professional.

2. Staff who are rude and disinterested in cleaning their own facility.

3. Staff who lack knowledge about their own gym equipment.

Hopefully LA Fitness corporate management and the Central Florida district manager can attend to these matters speedily to sustain the integrity of the company.

I like the LA Fitness facility, but the staff is definitely in need of professionalism and proper training in social etiquette and manners.

Probably the most professional of the staff at LA Fitness are the sales reps who work during the day, although about six months ago a heavy set latina sales rep was a bit rude when I discussed pricing with her compared to other health clubs in town.

Again the facility at LA Fitness on Conway & Michigan is relatively good. It's just the staff that one should be forewarned of and the annoyances mentioned above in my complaint.

LA Fitness International don't let them scam you on membership cancellation!

I was able to cancel my month-to-month membership immediately!

They told me I'd have to get a form from the club or print it out from their website and mail it in. (Apparently, this is in the original contract when you sign up!) I told them that that wasn't acceptable, since my next billing was going to be in 5 days.

I tried calling the 800-number but the member services option didn't work.

So I went to the club and the manager dialed someone from the phone on the reception desk. Great move, since anyone coming in could hear what I said.

I asked the representative to tell me what number I could call in the future for member services - she wouldn't!

After I refused the snail mail option (how can they sign me up immediately but cancel my membership only by snail mail?), she told me that she could process the cancellation over the phone, but that it would take 5 days, and since today was the 23rd and my next billing was the 28th ... wait for it ... I would have to pay another month! I told her I'd tell my credit card company to reject any future charges from them.

Finally, she told me to talk to "Brian" at the gym, who would cancel my membership. Who's he? The guy sitting at the other end of the reception desk. Would she need to talk to him to let him know? He's been listening to the call the whole time! Creepy! That would explain why she kept saying "Yes" and "OK" on the phone and have long pauses, but not in response to me.

So he cancels my membership, effective immediately, as easy as pie, and sends me an e-mail confirmation on the spot.

Oh, and the gym? There are no towels, the classes were often overfilled, I often had to wait for equipment, and one of the trainers kept bothering me and others in the middle of our workouts to sign up with him for a free training session. And half of their free training session is a sales pitch. Ugh!

I am also having trouble cancelling the membership for my son and his girlfriend who are no longer in this country as he had to travel to China for his job. This company wants the flight details, address where they are ! however, what i find more important is that after having a shower after workout in the gym, it was as though he was burnt from top to bottom. The emergency dept said he had an adverse reaction to the chemicals they use in the water! "2 weeks of work and now they have sent debt collection agency to try to claim over £700 where they got that figure from unbelievable and again no joy on the phone. I am now going to set up camp outside and leaflet people going in and out to warn them of this membership scam

LA Fitness International rude front desk with harassing closing announcements

The club has the poorest customer service of any place i have ever been. The front desk has the attitude that they are doing you a favor by being there. Every week night evening as early as 8:45 they announce the time and the time they are closing and instruct the members to plan their workouts accordingly. They do this no less than 4 times an hour and every 5 minutes near closing. There is one particular woman named Tamara who is obnoxious. She commenced with the usual harassment and announced at 9:45 9:50 and there after every 5 minutes and at 10:02 she proceeded to announce at top volume " the club is closed closed closed lease the club leave" repeating herself in a continuous loop until as i was walking by i asked her if she knew how annoying that was. She then replied " I don't care. I don't get paid for the extra 5 minutes so you can walk out slowly" I replied " but you know your ruining the last 5 minutes of every ones day" she said " I don't care you need to leave it is 10:05 and the gym closed at 10" after which i tried to reply but she continued to yell at me till i asked her name. I then said thank-you and left. Keep in mind there were no less than 15 people still in the gym.

The night before they blared a high pitched whining noise over the speakers every couple of minutes..

You come to the gym to release tension these employees are human beings with lives just like you. If they don’t get paid after a certain time you should respect that. As a former employee I’ve had to stay as late as 11:30 because people refused to get out of the gym. Respect other people’s time and they will respect you.

Well why are you there after 10 p.m when you know the gym closes at 10 p.m the workers wanna go home to their loved ones too so have some respect for their private life. You would be pissed too if you had to spend 20 mins everyday after your shift is over telling GROWN men and women to leave the gym when they all know what time the gym closes and not get paid for the extra time walking around playing hide and seek with inconsiderate people who dont care how long someone stays after their shift.

I agree. The front desk staff is the worst I have seen in years. After I get off from a long day at work I want to come to the gym to unleash tension. Not have a front desk staff give me attitude. I go to the La Fitness in Pasadena, Md & Amanda N. is the most diabolitical, duck face, ignorant human being I have ever had to deal with. I love the Latin Heat class with Sharon R. who is fabulous! but because of the poor customer service I always encounter from Amanda N., I will not be coming back to this location. There are plenty of La Fitness gyms that are opening up in Maryland that I don't have to deal with a imp like Amanda N.

LA Fitness International illegal behavior

In this are my reasons for canceling with LA Fitness that I feel you need to be informed about. It is a real horror story that I fear will happen to more members presenting LA Fitness with trouble and a major lost in trust for the company. In October 2009 Both I and my fiancé wanted to join LA Fitness at the monthly membership fee of $30.00 a month. After much thought and consideration we decided to go in to sign up. We were nicely shown the premises by a staff member and found the facilities satisfactory.
Then we were quickly sat down at a table and talked to about the membership. We flatly said we just wanted a regular monthly membership nothing more. Then we were asked our goals for getting in to shape. I said my plan was to actually try to put on weight and mussel bulk because I have a very lean and tall frame . My fiancé just wanted to tone up nothing drastic. We were then quickly made to feel that there was a lot wrong with our bodies so our self esteem would be lowered. The membership process quickly turned into a negotiation that we should sign up for personal trainers. Before we could say anything another man sat down who was The training general manager (if you would like his name I would feel free to tell you)and started estimating monthly payments for personal trainers. We were baffled at how astronomical the prices were and quickly said no .He continued to say that our work outs and goals would be worthless without help from a trainer.
Since I was pretty serious about reaching my goal for an ideal body I finally let my guard down and became more interested. He made lots of promises that I would be so satisfied with my body that any price would be worth it. I was still very hesitant about the price and wanted to leave .He then wrote down and showed me that he could give me an “amazing” offer but only if I took it right away. I still basically said no thank you. Then he said what is it because you do not have the enough money ? I dumbly said with out thinking, Yeah I have money I’m waiting for a huge check actually. His eyes then turned to dollar signs I was just too naive to notice it at the time. He then offered me another deal and after much sweet talking I agreed to think about it. Since I hadn’t received my check yet it would have to be a couple days till I signed up for a trainer anyway. But then I received calls on my cell phone from the training general manager bluntly asking if I had received my check yet… because he would get in trouble from his boss for the “great” deal he was going to give me. He said I could pay a portion of the down payment right away so I could still get the deal that way he wouldn’t get in trouble. If this happened to me now I would say why the heck is it any of your business when I get my check. At the time though I didn’t want the guy to get in trouble because of me. So I went in and paid a portion of the down payment. While I was there I was then again asked if I had received my check or when I would. The calls also persisted until the day I actually did get my check and finished the down payment for the personal training sessions.
I was then rushed through the contract, he barley even let me touch the thing and just read what he thought was important . Also I found out that he only explained half of the truth about the cancellation and that the contract is very poorly written. I found this out when for some reason I received a call from a woman with LA Fitness 3 days later asking if I understood the terms of the contract and if I knew that I would have to pay 50% of the remaining balance to get out of it(50% of balance = a couple grand). I said no actually I did not know that, but that’s just great you tell me when I already signed.
Everything was down hill after that …I had training sessions canceled by the trainer even though they were made prior according to my busy schedule. The trainers were to lazy to bother to write down my work out routine in my issued La Fitness trainers notebook for my reference as well for the other trainers .Every time I went to a session I was handed off to a different trainer who had no prior knowledge of my fitness routines or goals. When I wanted to stay with one certain trainer they would try to plan the sessions for when was convenient for them not me. I was also told very many things by many different trainers about how long it take me to gain the mussel weight every thing from 3 months to a year. I was ignored on the parts of the body I wanted to work out. I also feel I was told to do work outs that would purposefully make my goal take longer so I would need the training longer. My favorite thing that happened was that guy who was so persistent in keeping track on me for when I got my check forgot to schedule me for a session I made with him prior… he was just to lazy to remember to write me in. When I told other people who belonged to other gyms how much I was paying they laughed. I was seriously paying half of my income and I never saw much result I was becoming more tone but not gaining bulk which was the whole point .I became so depressed and broke in fact I stopped going to the gym all together even though I was paying tons of money just because I resented it so much. It truly was one of the worst decisions of my life even though it should have been one of the best. The people knew they were taking advantage of a young couple because they thought we were gullible not because they actually wanted to help us in any way. I take responsibility for the decision I made and I had to pay for that decision by throwing thousands of dollars away for nothing .I hope LA Fitness cleans up there act before someone takes action a lot harder then me and it’s just a matter of time before someone does.

I was asked the same question: "You don't have anough money?" at the gym here in Bristol, Connecticut when I told him I wanted to think about it. It must be part of their sale's pitch. I thought it was RUDE! I am on social security disability and I have to think hard before spending my money.

I hope they change their sale's tactics soon!
