I am facing homelessness due to unauthorized charges from Idearc Media a division of Verizon. They sent my account to collection agency (AFNI Inc) AFNI Inc has ruined my credit score and now my son and I cannot move anywhere because of the lack of integrity that Verizon possesses. This is tragic and my heart is broken.

In my case Verizon sold AFNI hundreds of thousands of uncollectable accounts that had gone past the Statute of Limitations (in other words, could no longer be sued on to enforce collection) AND WERE IN ESSENCE WORTHLESS
to make Verizon money to pay the 21 million annual compensation package for Ivan the CEO.

AFNI can only write letters and call after this statute runs out..their call center are commissioned salespeople intimidating people to pay money they have NO legal obligation to pay.

In my case it was someone else's account and ID fraud, which AFNI refused to acknowledge.

After 7 years from the closing bill date, all mention of the item MUST be removed from all repositories reports.

BEFORE 7 years runs out, you can DISPUTE the debt and it CAN NOT LEGALLY APPEAR on your credit until the account is "validated", which if you file a lawsuit can take a LOOOOONG time.. AFNI usually will do nothing more and let you win.

THE GOOD NEWS is that AFNI as a matter of Std Operating Procedure, breaks all the rules, each of which have a statutory fine you can collect for the asking from a court, however your COMPENSATORY damages and attorneys fees can be paid for by AFNI and you stand a chance of winning punitive and exemplary damages if you ask fior and get a sympathetic jury.

I recommend to find a qualified consumer law attorney to, pursue it for you and DO NOT LET GO..use the same aggressiveness AFNI and Verizon use.

I am going after BOTH AFNI and Verizon for engaging in the Unfair and Deceptive business plan they have devised for their Undue Enrichment, and for willful violation of State and Federal Statutes and regulations
    that they routinely engage in.

ALSO file complaints with the FTC, the US Dept of Justice, and your state attorney general, NOT the BBB which has a scheme to protect AFNI.

The good news folks, is that by waltzing into court you SHOULD get a judge to order the derogatory info off your crediot report until it can be straightened out, and AFNI W I L L roll-over...they have too many locations to risk being shut down as a criminal enterprise.

When they ask for money, JUST SAY NO, and send a certified letter return receipt demanding that remove the degrogatory item from your credit and send you a certified copy of ALL items in their files as well as what the original creditor (Verizon) has.

COLLECT YOUR STATUTORY FINES and enjoy good credit immediately!!!... take ACTION NOW.
