I received a Garmin GPS as a gift this am. (retail 199).
I wanted to upgrade it and was told the Garmin was purchased at Best Buy. I went to Best Buy today and wanted to upgrade to the $360 Garmin plus add the 4 year care. The ladies were very nice but terribly upset as they said today Corporate told then they could no longer upgrade, exchange, or store credit without a receipt and they had many irate customers today. There was no way they could override the computer.
This is new corporate policy. They do not know what will happen the day after Christmas!!!And agreed this is ridiculous as they had to turn down extra money . They were able to verify that the Garmin was purchased at Best Buy and the package was in perfect condition and not opened. I really dont know why anyone would knowingly purchase anything at Best Buy. They said if I had received the gift yesterday and brought it in then, there would have been no problem !!!By contrast, we stopped at Circuit City and they would have upgraded for us but did not carry the 199 dollar model, which was very nice of them to consider it.
