Hostess / orange cupcakes...

United States Review updated:

Just a note on the way companies like this are continually reducing the sizes and portions of their products. I bought a box of the orange cupcakes for the 4th of July holiday as I do sometimes and upon opening saw that all of them look like someone sat on them. They're half the size and portion they used to be. It's not a new issue - companies are continually cutting costs by cutting product portion at the same time increasing prices - it's a double whammy to the consumer and it's disappointing and misleading. Especially since we cannot 'see' the products inside a cardboard box.
I do not want a refund or a coupon...that solves nothing. I've stopped buying several products the last couple of years for the same reasons and I will probably not purchase Hostess products anymore. And that's a shame...
Enclosed are photos using a teaspoon for scale.

I've enclosed more photos to give an idea - and a special pic for the trolls.
They're wrapped like they've always been...I can get maybe 3 bites and it's gone...and there's just enough filling to get a taste...

What size weight was the box before and what is it now?

Companies shrink the portion instead of raising prices first. Prices for consumers are up on baking goods and these companies have to pay more as well. Wages have increased, insurance has increased and utilities have increased. The price of fuel increased for delivery to stores.

I’ve never bought those packaged cupcakes and don’t know what size they were. If I want a cupcake, I go to the bakery and buy one. Packaged products have multiple preservatives and chemicals to keep them “fresh” for months.

@SubSquirrel They have shrunken in years but that because it costs more to make them and make their shelf life longer.

It's also a little on the healthier side when you think about it. The larger something like this is, the more calories, fat, sugar, crap is included. When things are smaller, you get less cupcake but you get less crap.

@SubSquirrel They break down to about one oz 68 each. Even the two pack the entire package (which the stupid company says is one serving) has two cupcakes at 1.68 oz each.

I'm wondering if the closeness of the shrink wrap also condensed the cupcakes some.

They also use different ingredients than before... I've noticed they don't taste the same as back in the 90s.

Reading the ingredients for food products is sickening. Today at Walmart I checked their sugar free jelly. First ingredient is water, then blueberries and then chemicals galore. I bought no jelly because the Simply Fruit brand was not just fruit.

I’ve bought mini cupcakes on occasion and freeze them. Two bites and I’m happy without affecting my health.

I never knew that they were so small. They look good though and that color is startling. Halloween season would be better than July.
