Hertz Location closed without notice, will not transfer the reservation with same rate quote

On 4/6/21, I went to extend a rental on Hertz.com that I was due to pick up on 4/7/21. I received an error notice that the neighborhood location was temporarily closed. Upon driving to the rental location in person, I saw a handwritten sign stating the location was closed because of COVID concerns. I received absolutely no advance notice about this closure and would not have known had I not coincidentally tried to adjust my reservation online.

Upon calling the reservation line on 4/6/21 at 12:40 pm EDT, I was placed on a long hold. After the customer representative answered, we spoke briefly. After another hold, she ended up hanging up on me, claiming she could not hear me (I heard her!) and that she would refund my money. This was not helpful to me.

I called the reservation line back at and spoke to another representative. She diligently tried to help me find another nearby location that had a car for me. However, her system did not show any available cars on the date I need it. I completed the same search on Hertz.com and saw cars available, but for twice what I had pre-paid for the original reservation. I gave her my phone number and requested a manager return my call.

The solution I keep hearing is that I need to cancel my reservation, accept a refund of my pre-paid amount, and re-book a reservation one day in advance for an exorbitant rate. This is entirely unacceptable to me, especially since I arrived in this situation through no fault of my own.

Desired outcome: Rebook my reservation for a comparable rate at an alternative location!

Hertz Not honoring reservations

On two different occasions I've made reservations with Hertz well in advance for them to only tell me, "oh we don't have any vehicles." Then nothing is done to try to accommodate me as a customer. I'm not trying to here "we have over 100 reservations for today." Is that my concern...NO! When trying another location that have a vehicle they said "we can't honor that reservation" on top of trying to charge the price for one day which was the same as the amount for the five days I was going to keep it. This is crazy especially when it impacts us traveling for vacation. Why over book?

Rented a vehicle in Tampa. Emergency, need to return to Ft. Meyers. I am a gold member (Boyd Tomsetti) and have been repeatedly stonewalled by Hertz Reps. You have a TERRIBLE rep online. Why keep it going?

Hertz Still not refunded my 200 cash deposit in 12 weeks after many complaints

ON 12/14/20, I rented a car at Hertz in Groton Ct 06340 and had to pay a $200 cash deposit as they would not take debit cards only credit cards which I do not have. After numerous calls to that office and emails to the complaint offices, I have still not received my refund. The manager Anne called me once a month ago, she no longer calls back after many more calls to her and as of today 3/22/21 I do not have an answer nor my funds. I was told about 6 weeks -car returned 12/26/20 to same office-RR H41386601-2019 Nissan Veh 01797/8300063. I have left many voice mails and no return calls. Hertz Mistreatment from dollar rent a car employees and discrimination

On February 28, 2021, I reserved and paid for a rental car from Dollar Rent a Car thought Priceline from my home in San Diego, California. Priceline Trip number 365-015-152-77, Dollar Reservation number J6854770618 for March 1, 2021, I prepaid for everything. My flight on American 1974 was uneven, a little early. I proceeded for gas. After to the terminal to the car rental area and a produced my credentials to the Dollar counter where a young woman asked for an additional Car rental deposit and $70. After running my Card she informed me that there were no cars and I would have to wait with everyone else. That is when I notice approximately 20 other people waiting on cars. When I told the employees of the urgency of my getting a car they showed no interest. I told them that I am a medical dialysis patient that urgently needed to get to Mississippi for a dialysis appointment and to see my dying brother, they showed no concern! I then stressed that I had a reservation that was already paid for. One of them said that I was in Dallas and my third party reservation meant nothing, They further told me that they were issuing cars on a first come basis and if I wait I may get a car. I waited from 1:30 pm until they closed at 11 and was then to get a hotel and maybe get a car in the morning. I had to pay $60 round trip to a Motel 6 and $70 for the motel as well as $25 for dinner. Dollar did not assist me at all, They left stranded in their lobby area without even an apology. The following morning they still did not have a car for me. I informed Priceline who immediately sent me 30 feet away to Avis where I had to pay again for a car. I finally arrived at my family's home the next day three hours after my brother died. (The whole reason for my trip was to see him before he died.) Further I missed my prearranged for dialysis treatment and almost died due to Dollar's neglect and uncaring. Your DFW employees were rude to me as well as discriminatory and almost cost me my life. They need to learn sensitivity training and how to treat customers. Further, I should be compensated for my loss and for almost costing my life. I had to be admitted to Greenwood-Leflore in Greenwood, Mississippi costing over $33, 333.00 for missing my life sustaining dialysis and not being able to say goodbye to my brother.

Hertz Rental

I rented a Hertz Nissan Sentra for two days on 2/22/21 at 4:40 pm.

Rental place: Hillsboro Airport, Oregon 97124
The rate was calculated for a week about $50/day, and I was told that I could return earlier at the same rate.
However, I chose to return the car in the state of Washington after I had called and asked the Hillsboro Airport location if that was possible. It was confirmed that I could do that, but it would involve an extra fee at unknown proportions. (This was on 2/24)

On 2/24/21 I drove to Federal Way to take care of some business. When done I proceeded to the closest Hertz location. When I arrived to Hertz in Federal way they were closed at 4pm. I called the Auburn, WA Hertz location and spoke to a rep who suggested I just using the key drop - he declined to disclose the different drop off location fee. So that is where I dropped off the vehicle shortly before 5:00pm.
I received a bill for two days rental at $195/day - totaling $428.

Sorry, but I had never in my life expected to pay this kind of fee. I feel totally mislead and misinformed about the potential cost of my action.
I have no words to describe how helpless and abused I feel.

I talked to the Hertz billing but got nowhere. This very young girl I spoke to told me that I should have talked to Hertz before I dropped it off. I confirmed that I did so, but she insisted that she had no record of the conversation. I told her that it was out my hand to monitor Hertz documenting their conversations.

Today 3/8/2021 I spoke to the manager of the Federal Way store. Unfortunately, she was very difficult to understand, but I understood that the fee increases because of returning the car in another state. She also stated that if I had returned it to the Seatac location they would have charged me thousand of dollars. Really?

My complaint is about the lack of transparency and consistency of the fees charged. My rental agreement actually states that returning the car to a different location will result in an application of $10. As you probably notice, there is no explanation of the increased rate on the invoice. The fact that no one was willing to disclose the amount of fees I could be charged tells me, that they operate with variable rates. Potentially, I could be charged much more.
Is this really legal?

Desired outcome: A reasonable fee amount -$10 total.

Hertz Global hertz unprofessional service...

I have been a long time Hertz customer until my last experience at the Ballwin location in Missouri. I rented a car from a Friday 1pm until Monday at 11pm CST. Returned the car on Monday at 7pm CST and dropped keys off in the hard box outside the door. Tuesday morning I realized that I had left a mask in the rental so I called the location and asked if they could look in the rental for it. The lady gladly obliged. So 5pm rolls around and had not heard back. So I went up to the Hertz location and asked if I could look, she said sure. She went in and could not locate the keys, so she came out to the hard box and lo and behold the keys were there. This was at 5pm Tuesday. She had not checked the hard box first thing Tuesday morning, thugs I was charged an extra day. So I put in a complaint about this issue and they replied they would check cameras, talk with employees etc... Just got email back today saying that the extra charge stands. Now, this is my location I cannot speak for other locations. My 4 day rental as at a rate of $40 plus taxes a day for a total $186. Due to the unscheduled extra day charge, my original contract for $40 a day was null void and new charges of $56 a day was implemented for a total of $337. Be aware that this is not specific to my hertz location, it is all hertz locations. Suffice it to say I will not be going back to hertz, nor will I recommend them. Hertz Rental car smoking fee

12/24/2020 I returned a car to hertz from a one day rental around 10:oo pm. The individual thoroughly inspected my car and sent my receipt via email for $235.07. A few minutes later I received a notification from my credit card that I was charged $638.07.

I contacted Hertz on 12/29/20, upon returning from vacation to inquire of the additional $400 and was advised it was a smoking fee. I did not smoke in the vehicle and was asked to understand their decision and was told there was nothing they could do and never received any receipt notifying me of this additional fee.

Also, I was previously advised from their customer center that a rental that is held over 24 hours is the valid time for cleaning the car. This car was confirmed as rented 4pm the next day and the second individual advised that if the car was held for more than 4 hours means it had to be cleaned.

If I return a car at 10pm, what is the likelihood of it being rented at 2am. There is no reason to substantiate a $400 claim.

I am a gold member and used to not have any problems, but this is too much for me. We are in times of Covid and to get this extra charge is very overwhelming for something that I didn't do. I don't smoke and did not smoke in the car.

Hertz COVID Lockdown Cancellation

I was recently denied ANY consideration (refund, Credit, etc) for my late cancellation of my travel to SNA on Dec 4-6. I received a "Form E-mail" effectively stating that no consideration would be given. I have been a Hertz Gold Member for Many Years, and THIS is how you treat me. So much for Hertz's "Famous Service". My number is: [protected]

There is No misunderstanding. I DID hope, given the CA Governor's and LA Mayor's Announcements less than 12 hours prior to my trip, AND that should I be "Caught" in a 2 week quarantine at either or both ends of my 2 day trip, this would have been disastrous for my Practice Group, the Tacoma Family Medicine Teaching program, the Labor and Delivery Call schedule (scheduled 3 months in advance).

For the sake of this amount of money, which I had to give up going to visit my 95 year old Mother for her birthday…You are adding substantial Insult to Injury.

I will have to reconsider my (and my Wife's) relationship with Hertz, and any opinions asked of me from colleagues and patients…

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Hertz $400 cleaning fee for smoking (I'm a non-smoker)

I rented a vehicle at the Temecula, CA Hertz Local Edition (HLE) from 25-27 NOV 2020.

I returned the car and the representative working at the time took the keys and I went home. The following morning, I received an email receipt with a $400 cleaning fee (for smoking). I was not told about this charge.

On top of this, I am a non-smoker. As well as being a lifelong asthmatic.

I should not be held responsible for cleaning fees if I was not the person responsible for it. I expect a refund of these charges.

I am a Presidents Circle Member with Hertz (25+ rentals/year minimum), so I rent a quite bit with Hertz and and in the 20+ years I've been renting cars, I have never seen this charge in past rentals. That would be consistent with that fact that I do not smoke. Not exactly the best way to ensure customer loyalty.

Hertz can look at my rental history and the fact that I have never been charged a cleaning fee, they can conclude that I did not smoke in this vehicle or any other rental in the past.

I should also mention that I used my Hertz rewards points on this rental so the bill should have been significantly less. Getting slapped a $400 charge came as a shock.

I believe I should be due a refund from this charge as it is fraudulent and I was not notified of this at time of the return.

Got also charged wir a cleaning fee for smoking! My wife and I never smoked, noone else was in that car! Furthermore I got a confirmation form from the lady at the exit of the Hertz location at the airport RSW, for a major damage of the left rear fender and the car and being very dirty inside! Returned the car clean(!), guy told me, everything okay, receipt 0 Dollar, then 3 hours later came a second receipt with that smoking fee!? Are you serious? Hertz is not refunding it! -> Fraud!

Hertz Rental car service - new orleans international airport 11/24/2020 2:30pm

There was no HertzGold Service available today, 11/24/2020, at New Orleans International Airport. After standing in a line for one hour, along with other angry and frustrated fellow travelers, I learned the car I had reserved was actually not available. The representative then offered a pickup truck and said if I did not take the truck, she did not know how long I would have to wait for a car. So, I took the truck. However, the truck was not clean and has a strong odor of cigarette smoke. The Hertz counter representative offered no explanation and no apology. I wonder if there was an intentional work slowdown or whether the bankruptcy is a factor in this mess. I've been a Hertz customer for a very long time, but I'm switching to Enterprise.

Hertz Unfounded charges

I rent cars from hertz for work at least monthly and have for years. I can use other companies but I have never had a problem with them so I stick with them however, I rented a car over this weekend for a project and as always just went straight to the car and took off. The car smelled really bad with cleaning products but I know this is covid time so I opened the windows and went on my way. I returned the car to no one as the sign said leave the keys and go. Afterwards, I got a $400 damage bill. I called the 800 number and was told it was due to cleaning for "smoke" in the car. I do not smoke. I was told it was a local decision and there was nothing they can do. I am going to have to dispute this charge as this is my work credit card and this is bogus. I do not smoke. I am thinking it is time to change rental companies when the local company can just charge anything they want due to financial hardship and the corporate level refuses to step in. Getting hit with the same $400 charge. Non-smoker. I have also alerted the credit card company for the charge and just filed a complaint to Hertz. I even went back to the local Hertz office where I rented locally to see what the deal was. I was given lip service "the manager will review it on Monday"- today is Saturday. I'll see how that goes. I cancelled all future rentals with Hertz as a result.

Avis does a status match if you are a business traveler. I suggest looking at other rental companies and see if they offer a status match so you don't start from ground zero.

Hertz Billing

9/17-9/21 Rental Record - [protected]

I had flown into Phoenix AZ on 9/16
When I made my reservation with hertz, I told them I was flying into Phx but renting a car in flagstaff, so apparently no one there knew Flagstaff doesn't have Major airlines flying into it.
So now my fiancee and myself are in Phoenix, we rented a car one way to Flagstaff. When we went to return the car from Phoenix to Flagstaff, the Hertz Representative told us, he could still use the points for the remaing days, and that if we dropped it off in Phoenix, they if they wanted to could aasses a charge for a different location drop.
I looked at my Credit Card Statement and saw a charge from Hertz for $889?

After several calls to hertz and 3 times being told there is no supervisor available to help me, I am now writing this email

If a representative of HERTZ offers the wrong information, why am I being penalized for this! I have been a loyal member with hertz for quite some time. I know the rules, I was assuming this rule was adjusted to the Covid-19, in order to promote satisfaction in travel.
Total misrepresentation!

Not impressed with their service they dont communicate the extra 25 dollars a day that you have a choice to decline and when you call corporate they dont make it right $333 dollars aweek for a compact car is rediculous my first expierence and last in Decatur Illinois during this pandemic you would think they would have mercy.

Hertz Rental cars

Rented a car on 7/15/20-7/17/20 in nashville, tn. They added a $400 charge claiming I smoked in their car
I am a pastor and my wife and I both have never smoked a day in our lives

They charged my credit card an additional $400 and all my attempts with hertz have availed to nothing at all. I want that charge removed.

Hertz Unauthorized multiple charges on my credit card

Hello, my name is Stephen Bonczyk the rental agreement number is [protected] This dispute Refit cardis about 3 charges for 40 euros charged to my Am Ex card on June 29 ($44.97 US) I believe that they were supposed to be for a parking ticket that I got in Malaga Spain in March 2020 I was also charged the same charge of 40 euros on June 8th. Hertz Charging a cancellation fee

I booked a car through Hertz for the Labor Day weekend 2020. Due to the Covid concerns the venue cancelled the event, so i cancelled my car reservation. That's when i discovered that hertz was charging me a $100 cancellation fee. thats 25% of the entire $400 rental cost! After many attempts over 3 days to reach someone at customer service i was finally able to speak to someone. I read them the section OFF OF THEIR OWN WEBSITE that clearly states there would be no cancellation fees. The customer service op said i should take it up with corporate by sending proof (off of their website!) Even after insisting on speaking to a supervisor (who actually told me there was "no one above her" ) I was continually told the fee would stand. Next step calling my bank to have them dispute the charges. Shame on Hertz for pulling this during this time!

Hertz Rental vehicle

I rented a vehicle RR H35584544. The agent was extremely nice, picked me up timely and was very courteous and handled my rental transaction expeditiously. My issue was during COVID - the Hertz Rental in Inwood did not make me feel safe at all. I blame the agencies policy not the agent. The vehicle I picked up was filthy and had bird crap he was given only a bucket and scrub brush to clean off the bird stuff. The he sprayed the inside and wiped it down as best he could but it was not to safety standards at all. I itched all the way to the nearest carwash once I obtained the vehicle and washed exterior and wiped down inside myself when I got home as the car washes are not entering vehicles at this time. Further, I found toys from someone who rented prior to me in the vehicle and paperwork that was not mine in glove compartment as I was cleaning. They need to hire someone to solely clean vehicles as they return to ensure the safety of their renters. I am requesting the price I paid to wash this vehicle back upon return of the car.

Hertz Insurance coverage

My name is Jenna Kulakowski, I picked up a rental on February 19, 2020 in Revere, MA which was covered through my auto insurance. The customer service rep offered me an additional insurance for a "one time fee" of $25. I figured, sure why not. He failed to explain that I did not need it because my auto insurance would have covered any accidents. So a month later I notice an $800 charge on my credit card and I called Hertz to figure out what was going on. After reaching a supervisor, he sends me my signed agreement and tells me to look over it carefully and proceeds to say that there is nothing he can do because I signed it. Apparently the coverage is $25 per day and that's how I raked up these charges. Although the rep at the rental location was misleading of the information and never provided me with the agreement before actually signing it, the supervisor kept referring me to review the signed document. I pleaded with the supervisor to show some compassion especially during this COVID-19 epidemic and I am out of work not able to afford this, but he could care less. I'm aware that you should always check what you are signing, however the rep was misleading with information and scammed me into buying coverage I never needed from the beginning. I was looking to receive a refund but unfortunately it doesn't seem like I will ever receive one with this company. Rental agreement #H32398763

Hertz over billed/fraudulent charges

I returned a rental car, received a receipt it included miles and the notation the the tank was "FULL" yet somehow 2 weeks later they did an audit at service and found the car nearly 8 gallons short of fuel, I have a receipt for fueling just moments before the return and i'm sure the station has video of me fueling THEIR car. the refuse to give me the mileage at this so called audit some two weeks after my return, but i am certain either the miles do not match and an employee used the car or they have lost a subsequent rental record, or perhaps experienced fuel theft or leakage, either way i returned it full and should not be responsible for an auto in their possession for two weeks after my use. they arbitrarily billed my credit card, I consider this theft, i also wonder how many others using this particular car rental agency in Sacramento have victims of this same experience.

Hertz Overcharging for cancellation

I paid in advance on a car rental for a hunting trip to Texas. The trip was canceled due to Coronavirus scares. The confirmation email that I took a screenshot of clearly says there will be a $50 cancellation fee if I cancel ahead of time and $100 if I cancel within 24hrs of the pickup time. With 11 days until pickup, I canceled my reservation and was charged $100. I was told that the fee was changed at the end of February. In the screenshot you can see the cancellation fees and at the bottom you can see the date of which I paid. The man I talked to was rude and short with me even though I gave him no reason to. He told me that if my confirmation email said that was the fee then I will have to call and get the other $50 back. He hung up without telling me where to call. I believe Hertz is gouging due to the high volume of cancellations.
