The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

I should never have purchased a kitten from Heartnsoul because they sold me a sick kitten (and please see the pictures I uploaded).
My boyfriend and I adopted a Ragdoll at Heartnsoul for $2200. But since the kitten came to us, she was sneezing, sniffling, coughing, and hesitated to open her eyes, and there was yellow discharge from her nose and eyes. We noticed this on the day we picked her up in Richmond, but the breeder called Carolyn told us it could be because of the spay surgery and the new environment, which gave the kitten stress, and we trusted her and continued watching.
But the kitten was not getting better in the following days. Especially, her third eyelid began to cover more and more eyeballs and the kitten almost always closed her eyes. Then we sent the kitten to a vet. The vet told me the kitten was highly likely to be infected by Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 (she had ALL the typical symptoms of FHV-1), but it was pretty expensive to do the lab test to confirm it biologically. Also, when the kitten was in the animal hospital, she was too nervous so we failed to get some discharge to do the test effectively. Although the kitten had the vaccines, the nurse in the animal hospital told us the time internal between each two vaccines was too long so it failed to protect the kitten and we had to restart the whole vaccination circle.
Once a cat gets FHV-1, it will be a carrier for the whole life and will pass it on to other healthy cats. We have another healthy cat at home and we set them apart since the Ragdoll kitten came so they never had any contact. Now, I doubt whether we should let them live together and probably it will end up that we have two carriers in our home... And it seems we would spend more than $3000 to get a sick kitten if we do the lab test to confirm the virus (the price for the kitten + the vet examine fee + the antibiotics + the FHV-1 test + the whole vaccination circle). Carolyn claimed that it shouldn't be virus (the kitten came without any health check/health certificate), and she rejected the images of the sick kitten on iMessage that I sent to her, and never responded since we discussed the virus!
Before we picked up the kitten, Carolyn promised us to send us more pictures and videos of the kitten but she never did, so until we picked up the kitten in Richmond, we could only see two pictures and a short video of that kitten. No more update was provided although we requested.
We are not sure whether Carolyn knew this kitten might have FHV-1 before she sold her to us, but an experienced breeder should be able to notice some signs if a kitten is sick. When we saw her pictures that Carolyn sent to us, we found her eyes were not so sweet (and we pointed this out to the breeder but this offended her and we apologized...), but we still thought the kitten was cute and there was no bicolor kitten available with other breeders. So we placed the deposit, but never got any update of pictures and video from the breeder that she promised. Then, only 2 days after the kitten's spay surgery, the breeder told us to pick up the kitten. And on the contract, which we never could see until we picked up the kitten, the breeder claimed to be not responsible for any upper respiratory infection in kittens (It's unfair, isn't it?). At the same time, the kitten was underweighted (4.6 pounds at 5 months). Before purchasing the kitten, I told Carolyn that I wanted a big kitten so I preferred a male, and the breeder told me this female kitten was "HUGE." So we accepted this "HUGE" female kitten. After we placed the deposit, the breeder never told us her weight until one day before we picked her up. When we drove far to pick up the kitten, we couldn't tell what exactly was wrong, and we didn't want to disappoint anyone, so we had no choice but to sign the contract and pay the balance.
BTW, the kitten is not as sweet as the breeder described.in the vet's office, the kitten performed not well-socialized and it took the vet & the nurse a lot of energy to feed her some antibiotics. Now I need to feed her antibiotics 5 times a day (2 for the whole body and 3 for the eyes treatment). It's really a lot of work if she does not have a good personality.
We were very excited to expect another kitten in our home but now it really has turned out to be a headache. And we should have been more careful and cautious.
My suggestion for those who purchase a kitten is: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER accept a kitten that looks unhealthy when you pick it up. The bill from the animal hospital will be much higher than the deposit, or even the full price of the kitten.

This breeder is in VA, not IL.

I feel sorry that Carolyn and I had many misunderstandings and miscommunications. After some time since I posted this, she heard about my complaint from someone else and contacted me. We met again and talked. I began to understand that she did not use social media and she accidentally missed my emails because she had so many emails. We came up with a mutual solution. In our communication later, Carolyn and her husband were both very reasonable, and I could see they really cared about their cats. I feel regretful to post this but complaintsboard.com refuses to deleted this "resolved" issue. So I just wanted to clarify that this breeder is a reasonable one, whom you can still trust.

Carolyn contacted me recently. It seemed that she missed my emails earlier so we had many misunderstandings. I feel sorry this happened between us. Now the miscommunication was positively and mutually resolved. I can see that she is a reasonable person and I still respect Carolyn and her work.

I got a retired cat from the same cattery in 2017. After about 2 years, he began to sneeze badly. I have seen 3 vets to confirm, and they all said he had FHV-1 and there was no cure. I'm not surprised HNS had FHV-1 spread to every litter. No matter whether Carolyn is (or not) a reasonable person, her cats are sick, period. And my Siberian Forest cat got this virus because of her sick cat that she tried to hide the truth.

Same here. I got a bicolor kitten from Carolyn in 2015. She began to sneeze and cough occasionally within 4 months so I reached out to Carolyn but she said it was normal for cats. I was not experienced with cats at that time and she was my first cat ever, so I took her words and my vet also said she was strong given that she only sneeze occasionally at that time and did not show signs at the vet's. However, those upper respiratory infection symptoms come along through out her life, sneezing, coughing, breathing heavily and sometimes eye/nose discharges. She is over 6 yrs old now but starting from 4 yrs old she started to need medicine to resolve those symptoms and I as her owner and her family became familiar with all upper respiratory infection tests. Honestly I've been thinking my cat is the unlucky one to catch the virus until I see these posts. But for now it seems that all, or at least many litters in HeartNSoul have the same issue.

Yes, I can tell you, don’t accept a sick kitten. Upper respiratory infection is a bad sign, had mine for two days and vet shook his head when I brought him in. Sadly, he passed at only 4 1/2, still recovering 2 years later, emotionally and financially. It’s despicable what these greedy people do. Research breeders thoroughly, don’t feel bad, or feel like you insult them. They won’t fell bad when you’re in debt and heartbroken. I’m sorry this happened to you.

I'm going through the same problem with our Maine Coon from www.Titancoons.com, owner Rebecca Lutz. our kitten had giardia, hook and round worms, plus a respiratory infection that needed treatment twice. she will not return my emails or messages, or refund my money on Paypal. Please, if you pay for any services, be sure you send it for services not friends and family. A mistake I will never make again. Sorry this is happening to you also. good luck to you in resolving this
