Grand Canyon University [GCU] grand canyon university doctoral program bait and switch

Non credit doctoral continuation classes for 7 years. I've been working on my dissertation for 10 years. I was supposed to be done long ago. But I had 4 different chairs, that had different ideas of how I should complete my dissertation during credit and non credit classes. I was continually led on about being close to completion by all 4. Grand Canyon needs to be stopped from leading students on. Please contact me at [protected]@live.com. Thanks

Grand Canyon University [GCU] tuition reimbursement

I notified the school I had not received my tuition reimbursement on multiple occasions. They finally recut the check. I again notified them a week later I had not received the check. They said I had to wait 9 days. Upon waiting more days I still had not received over 3, 054 check. I notified again. This time someone had forged my signature. Had to ask for it to be filed as fraud. Now the school refuses to give me any updates to move the situation along. They will not give me anyone's Information aside from one school person to talk to. She won't provide me any information or follow up. She only tells me to call the bank who cannot talk to me because I'm just the payee. The institution is the claimant. I have all of the emails as evidence. I've done everything in my power and the school refuses to give me any information on the money that they took from the federal government and refuse to release or give me any information on.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] lying and scamming students

They told me they were accredited in SC and they were not. I didn't know until the week I started the classes and when I found out I immediately called. And since I had finished the week's school work, they would not let me unenroll without charging me 900$. They told me they'd drop the charge and then they went back on their word. It was unfair. They enroll students and then lie to us and when we can't use our degrees it's "on us" SC is not included in their regional accreditation and they told me they were fully accredited in SC. It was a LIE... they need to be shut down!

I definitely agree with you Tiffany! This is supposed to be a "Christian" School. How are you a "Christian-based school" yet scamming and misleading students with false information?! People do not have money to waste on a school that has no accreditation to their state! This should be told from the beginning! They should forgive the loans and let students find another University that is legit!

Grand Canyon University [GCU] doctoral program

During the doctoral stage, the dissertation chair/professor has 14 days to respond to the student regarding any changes to be made and progress on the working document. The assigned professor will wait until the 14th day to respond or later then 14 days up to three weeks one time to respond to the said student. This delays the gradation date and further completion of the dissertation. After financial aid runs out past the graduation date, the student is then required to take continuation classes paid out of pocket to complete the dissertation.
This is the method that GCU uses I believe to delay graduation and gain further funds into their pocket. They should have professors assigned fewer papers to read so that reponses can be quicker say one week. I have contacted the counselor several times and the only response is the 14 day turn around. I am in my second doctoral course and already the professor has missed 2 turn around dates, past the 14 days.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] stipend/refund

Hey,
So I started school Sept 19th. my counselor called me towards the end of September (around the 26th) and told me to look out for my stipend. I waited and then called the school because I felt like I should have received it by now. The other day I called my counselor and was told that my check was mailed on Oct 3rd. It is now Oct 18th and I have not received it. Has anyone ever received their check so late or after the 14day period?

Hey, I have not received my check yet. It’s very frustrating. I’m not understanding why GCU doesn’t do direct deposit.

Hi I am going through the same thing. Did you ever receive your check? I supposedly had 2 mailed one on the 27th of September and the other on October 7th which was supposed to mailed since the 1st but they told me there was a delay in the mail so it was pushed back until 10-7-19. I have finally decided to put a stop payment on one of them hoping to place one on the other one by tomorrow. I really wish that someone can tell me exactly what is going on because at this point it is really frustrating and I feel like I'm getting the run around. I received mail from GCU today that was dated for the 15th of October so it's no way I should still be waiting for mail that was supposedly mailed out on 10-7-19!

Grand Canyon University [GCU] graduate program

Graduate program is great, until the dissertation portion. It is clear that GCU wants to string its students along for the financial benefit of the university instead of assisting students. Adjunct faculty are provided for the dissertation process and that piece of the faculty doesn't know about GCU or dissertation writing. I took 16 weeks of classes to get someone who said they read my dissertation draft. they said I was 'on my way.' When I asked for specific feedback, it was clear that they had not read the document and knew very little or nothing about k-12 education as had been promised to me. After complaining I was provided with a second, and then a third unknowledgeable chair for my dissertation. Each taking two to three weeks to pretend to read my work. The only consistent thing about GCU is the demand and calls for money...

Grand Canyon University [GCU] unethical behavior

I am a freshman 2019, I arrived at GCU full of good expectations since this university boasts a lot of its Christian values, the safe environment and the brotherhood. This happens only if you are white. I am Mexican and since I arrived I suffered discrimination and I was left alone. my roommate took out his mattress and his things for not wanting to be with me, I made fun of my accent when speaking English and nobody cared. It's a lie that leaders and counselors care. CGU just wants to be paid all semester. Notify the month of being there that I do not want to be alone, depressed and relegated and that I would go back to my state. They don't care and I find it unfair to pay for the entire semester if I'm not going to attend. I don't see the help and compassion that GCU and its community claim to have.
If you are Latino, DO NOT GO THERE.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] disingenuous information. false advertising by reps, against me and the dept. of education

Non transferrable credits
Lie to get your financial aide. They allow you to use your financial aide even if you can't attain a degree.
Reps. Who give wrong information after you signed the dotted line..have no knowledge of what you are signing when it comes to aide. They screw they government as well by putting students in financial harm to loans you can never pay back b/c of education that you can't achieve through this institution. They lie. And use scare tactics when you need time off from school. As a online student, my bill to the dept is the same as a on campus student. They got me good and now i cant move on. Untransferrable credits they lied about. I tried contacting some one no return calls after 1 conversation.
Financial aide mill is what they are.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] doctorate program

Grand Canyon doctorates Program is was sold to me when I was told that at the end of the program I would have completed my course work. This was not the case. We were required to go to the Grand Canyon to work on our dissertation but when assigned a chairperson there is always something wrong with the work done at residence. If you sat out a semester you would be assigned another chair that changed your previous chair approval drastically

Grand Canyon University [GCU] unethical behavior from instructors and advisors in doctor of nursing practice program

I provide freelance editing and writing services for student nurses pursuing doctoral degrees, and I have worked with many students from a variety of traditional and online university DNP programs. I have also been an adjunct instructor at several traditional universities and continue to provide writing services to medical, dental and nursing programs across the country. Over the past few years, I have received an overwhelming number of students from Grand Canyon University who have been unable to complete their DNP degrees because they cannot get their final papers approved. These students all tell the same story: they are given inadequate, contradictory, and irresponsible advising and instruction in the requirements for their projects and final papers; they have a series of advisors and reviewers, with no consistency between them, who contradict each other (and sometimes even themselves) in their recommendations and who then blame the students for not understanding the process; they are required to pay for additional extension courses every time their paper is not deemed "ready for the dean's review, " so that many of the students have taken 3 or 4 of these courses by the time they come to me for help; they are strung along in what seems to be a scam designed to get them to pay for additional courses with no intention of actually helping the students or approving their papers on a timely basis; and their approach to students is condescending and borderline abusive. I have heard this so often, and witnessed the condescension and contradictory advice given (in writing, no less) so frequently, that I feel I must alert people who are considering enrolling in the DNP program at GCU. While I can't speak for GCU as a whole, I can confidently say that the DNP program, its instructors, and particularly its advisors, are not ethical or responsible. Their goal appears to be to engage students in a never-ending series of revisions that are often unnecessary, that change from week to week, and that are often minor and even nonsensical (for example, changing every verb in the paper to past tense, even when introducing an upcoming chapter). From an editor's standpoint, most of the advisors seem to have a poor grasp of grammar, sentence structure, verb tense, etc., and their feedback on student papers shows their ignorance. They are especially condescending when working with non-native English speakers. One last point: I have edited so many GCU DNP papers that I have literally seen papers that were objectively worse receiving approval before papers that were considerably better. There is no consistency and no set standard; it all appears to be arbitrary and is probably a matter of luck based on the reviewers/advisors the student happens to be assigned along the way. Some appear to be more ethical and knowledgeable than others. So please be warned: If you choose to enroll in the DNP program, be prepared to spend extra money on extension courses and private editing services, and be aware that you will not be treated with respect during the process. These people are not there to help students; they are there to string them along to prolong the approval process, likely to ensure they pay for additional courses. They disguise this fact by pretending that they have high academic standards; however, the large number of papers I have seen directly contradicts this assertion, as many subpar papers are approved before considerably better papers. Overall, I suggest getting your DNP degree elsewhere. There are plenty of programs out there. The fact that I make a good portion of my editing income off of GCU DNP students should tell you something. I realize I am negatively impacting my own business by calling attention to this program, but I am so disturbed and outraged by their abuse of students that I think it is more important to speak out right now. I just can't stomach the way these students are being treated.

Thank you for your comment. I too have and am experiencing this right now in their DNP program. I was not sure if it was me or if there were others out there who felt the same way. Though very sad to hear, I am glad that I am right in my thinking and findings about what is going on in this program.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] doctoral program

Coursework and support were not sufficient and I was not allowed to finish the program on a timely basis. Basically the same as described at www.grandcanyonuniversitylawsuits.com in the Carr case, which may be a class action for doctoral candidates. Grand Canyon University is all about the profits, not about looking out for students. I do not recommend.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] student success

This week I received overwhelming news about my course work at GCU as I was trying to get certified for a leadership license. At the point of trying to get my certification form completed, I was told that my degree didn't meet the requirements. I was shocked and livid. This was said nonchalantly and without care. I tried to get assistance from so many staff at GCU but no one was willing to help. They wouldn't even waive or substitute their own classes for another one of their programs to help get me certified. I am so disappointed in GCU because I honored my academic experience until now. I will not be able to give positive feedback to anyone about this University ever again.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] stipend check

On my student ledger account, it says my stipend was posted on may 16, 2019. It has been almost 2 weeks and I still haven't gotten anything. I can't seem to get an answer from anything and this has been frustrating. I feel as though i'm being lied too and no one is telling me the truth. Grand Canyon University [GCU] stipend check

On my student portal account it says my Stipend check was sent off on the 16th and it's been well over a week and nothing has came yet. I've tried to talk with my counselor and he keeps saying they have the correct address and it was sent off on the 16th. Talking with others they have had the same problem. So either GCU is lying and it was not sent off or something is wrong. I have never had this problem before when I got a Stipend check before because it normally took only a few days and now it's been over a week. I'm in CA and GCU is in Phoenix and it should not be this long especially since Phoenix is close to CA and since it says you guys sent it off on the 16th. I want the truth and solid answers

Grand Canyon University [GCU] lack of communication/working with the students

I began attendance at GCU June 2015 & was in continued attendance through September 2018. During this time, my Student Serv8ce Advisor ("SSA") was changed multiple times without any notice to me. My Field Service Advisor ("FSA") was also changed to different people. The only way I knew I had a new SSA or FSA was when I logged into the student portal and saw a new name under those I should contact.
Regardless of who my direct contact turned out to be, they were always willing to help as long as my grades were As or B's. Once I started to receive lower grades, they were less than helpful. If a grade of D or lower was granted in a course, the cost of that course was rescinded and I was left with a balance. For example, when I received a D in a course that they charged me $1750 for and had received funds to pay for, they canceled the payment so it looked like I had no payment for the course. I received two or three Ds during my three years of attendance so they charged me in this manner two or three different times.
At another time I sought to change my plan of study to a non-licensure seeking degree in education. I stated I was simply seeking a degree and would achieve teacher certification in another manner. After I filled out & returned the proper forms, my SSA was changed and he told me that I would not be able to change plans until finished my original course of study. I tried to withdraw from a class that did not apply to my degree and I could not withdraw. I failed that course and my payment was rescinded and I was left with an outstanding balance. I withdrew from the school with funds left and expected to receive them. I never received them and they were never refunded to my Federal loan provider. They kept my money and refused to work with me.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] financial department

I have been with Gcu for almost 4 years. And have gotten the run around from multiple advisors. It feels like you are stuck in a contract and can't get out. They are not honest and it's unfair. It's my last academic year and I was Told I have No more financial aid funding to finish and they said there's nothing they can do. Of course here I am with now thousands of dollars in debt but right as I'm entering my last year to graduate I'm told you need this or you can not finish they do not tell you these things about loan limits or anything of that nature. And I am a single mother working full time countless hours of school for over 3 years and now I'm being told pay this or you won't be able to continue. This is truly unfair and I have Read hundreds of people going through the same issue. This currently has happened to me within this last week and being I do not Have the funding I'll be walking away without my degree my life my goals are truly broken and something needs to be done so this does not happen again!

I was just told this today and I am shocked. I was about to go into my third "year" with GCU. I specifically asked in October of last year how much aid I had left. MY SSC told me a little over $19, 000 and about $6, 856 left and that I would not have to pay out of pocket until October 2020. Here it is July 2019 and was told this morning that I have nothing left and that I now owe the school. I asked two weeks ago as well and my SSC told me that I would owe nothing, but two weeks later I owe $843 and will have to pay out of pocket for the rest of my degree? How does that happen in a matter of two weeks? Then they had the nerves to send me a stipend check for $9.00. If I owe money to the school, why send me a stipend check for a measly $9.00? I am extremely heart broken and don't know what to do.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] student advising/class scheduling/poor customer service

I have been a student in the GCU premed program since 2017. The first year was acceptable and the workload was adequate and my hard work got me on the dean's list. Starting the second year however, my advisor had me on 6 science classes with labs, basically making it impossible for me to catch up with the required assignments and study for tests after working 18 hours every day to complete them. Upon my request to change class arrangements, I was scheduled in classes that started at the same time, neglecting the fact that it is impossible to be in two different classes at the same time. I tried to contact my advisor, who told me that this is the way it has to be and that I should not feel that I am being set up for failure. I left messages for the director of the premed program who never returned my calls. At this point, I intend to collect signatures of all students that are having the same issues and take GCU to court.

I started my Doctor of Nursing Practice at the beginning of 2017. When speaking with advising and after giving a clear description of the clinic I worked at, I was explained that I would be able to complete practicum hours at my place of employment. I went through the first class and submitted my intended healthcare improvement project, only to find out that GCU did not agree with my company's policies and did not allow me to complete practicum hours at work. At this point, I had no place to go and was not allowed to continue on to my second class. When trying to contact my admissions advisor by phone and email, she never called back and never replied to my messages, but I kept getting calls from them about money I was now owing to them for not attending classes. To their advantage, after pleading with them and explaining that this situation was not my choice, they dropped the monetary charges and did not hold me responsible for paying. All this could have been resolved by letting me know ahead of time that my practicum facility has to meet a certain criteria, and what the criteria is.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] financial aid stipend

I started attending GCU in April 2016. I enrolled in the master's program for criminal justice and graduated in 2018. I feel I benefited from the program and had very little issues, so much so, I decided to pursue my doctoral degree with them. Aside from the doctoral program being demanding, which it should be, I have had no problems up until this point. Unfortunately, now I am experiencing issues with financial aid. Financial aid is received in two disbursements. I have recieved my first stipend check, however we have now just passed our second disbursement date and due to some changes in my program, I have a balance on my account that is owed to me. I had scheduled my residency for the end of April 2019 and had to cancel and reschedule because I fully ruptured my Achilles tendon. I am in a non-weight bearing cast and require assistance in daily activities. I made the difficult decision to reschedule as I currently do not know when my cast will come off and feel that my mental and emotional state is not prepared for my residency. Because of this, the money that was set aside for my residency was refunded to my account and has now been sitting there since March 27th, 2019, the day I rescheduled my residency. I received a small stipend of $299 when the second disbursement date became available on March 28th 2019. This was the leftover funds after my residency and other classes for this period were paid for. Initially, my student services counselor informed me that the refunded money for my residency may just sit on my account until my next residency in October 2019. She also said that she had seen instances were students did receive a stipend check for the refunded money, however she was not sure if or when that could happen. I waited a few weeks and called back and spoke to another counselor that told me, due to the disbursement period being over, no one would reevaluate my account until my next class starting on May 9th, 2019. At that time, he said it is possible I would receive a stipend possibly by the end of May. I then sent an email to my student services counselor for some further clarification. She called me and said that my October residency would be covered by the new financial aid package that starts in August 2019. I took that to mean that there is no reason why I should not receive the money that is currently showing on my account. She said she would keep an eye on my account for a couple of weeks and possibly issue an order to have my account reviewed. She said that her team did not have the ability to release the money to me at this time. I do not have a problem with my counselor, she has been very thorough in all things dealing with my doctoral program up until this point and I believe she is telling me what she has been instructed to tell me. I did not pursue any of my degrees for the financial aid. I love to learn and obtaining a doctoral degree has been a life long dream for me. However, I do have to pay this money back once my educational journey is over and I only want to make sure I am receiving what is owed to me so I can continue my educational journey. Due to my injury, I am currently unable to work and receive my income from my job as a caredriver for foster children. It is difficult to check my student portal every day and see that there is money sitting there that could help pay for some expenses during this time. I have accepted the way GCU handles the financial aid disbursements, although it can be irritating as it takes a few weeks for each check to be sent out. This is the first school I have attended where financial aid is not received via direct deposit or prior to the beginning of classes. I have asked why direct deposit is not an option, unfortunately that is usually answered with vague responses that do not really make sense. Aside from that, I am just looking for some answers as I feel this money is just sitting there for no good reason.

How does financial aid work at GCU? I just started my very first class and the financial aid I received is only for [protected] funding. Will I be getting more financial aid for the [protected] school year? there are 2 classes that were not covered with the [protected] funding and Im just so confused.

Also will I be getting more sub loans for [protected]? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] treatment of student and extortion of funds

I started to see you 2013 I worked my [censored] off to get the degree. When it came time for my student placement they didn't complete the placement the only placement in one but not the other I was treated rudely and unfairly by faculty members and my staff such as my financial advisor. When I asked for a statement of how much I have left they refused to give it to me or said the financial aid office doesn't exist. Plus asking for another $3, 000 when I started the program they said all my expenses and everything would be covered.
