Economy Rent a Car - try to rent a car with a debit card!

On March 13, 2018 my Girlfriend and I try to rent a car from Economy Rent a car in Honolulu.
It was supposed to be 196.44$ for one week. When we arrived, we were informed that because we had a debit card, it was going to be 20$ extra per day and that they were going to hold 1000$ It went from 196.44 to over 1500$ We could not afford the car so we canceled. The agent informed us the rental would be open till that night and then would close out.
To make a long story short, we were charged the 196.44$.
But because of their bait and switch policy, we could not afford the car!
So no car!
Out 196.44$
I would like the money return to us!

I am in the same boat! Went online and booked a rental last night. I paid in full. It said online to show up with driver's license and card used to pay for rental. Drove 45 minutes to the rental location and provided my driver's license and card to the guy behind the counter (who was very rude by the way). He then hands both cards back and informs me that he cannot rent the vehicle to me because I need a credit card not a debit card. I told him I do not own a credit card and that it stated online to use the card I paid with which I did. I also told him how it did not state credit card online. He then tells me "it is hidden". Hidden? Is that how these people rip others off? With "hidden" information? Needless to say, I am fighting to get my money back which they have conveniently taken out right away... I will NEVER book with this company again and I warn other's not to as well!

Economy Rent a Car - poor auto rental experience

11/10/17 thru 11/17/17 RA 75554 A-1 Rent a car Honolulu, HI.
Rented a vehicle in Honolulu that had non-functioning plugin (2) for cell phone recharging use. Key fob also did not work. Drove 90 Min. to return car & 90 Min. back. 2nd car headlight did not work. Once again drove 90 Min. both ways to return the vehicle and waited for another vehicle over an hour. This ended costing me my reservation for a tour activity with my family at Pearl Harbor.
11/29, 11/30, 12/01 called Honolulu office to ask for compensation, was told manager was not available first 2 times and that he would get back to me. 3rd time spoke with manager who hung up on me. When I called back 3 more times I was put on hold and no one ever picked up. I believe my calls were being screened.

At this point I am requesting a full refund of $390.02 based on my lost vacation time spent trying to secure a safe and functioning vehicle.
