Economy Rent a Car bait and switch

On Thursday, September 7, 2017 in preparation to evacuate Miami Beach prior to Hurricane Irma, we reserved a car from the website carrentals.com to be picked up at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport on Friday, September 8, 2017 and dropped-off on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.
We pre-paid eighty dollars ($80.00) for an Economy Rent a Car with a daily rate of $9.50 for 5 days and the estimated tax and fees.
When we arrived at the Economy customer services desk, we were informed of the following:
1. Economy would not accept the insurance that American Express provides and for which we pay a premium. Although, we were not given the option at the time, we found out later that we could have given $1000 deposit to waive the fee. Additional Fee: $11.99 per day.
2. Economy charges for an additional driver, even though it was my husband of 40 years. Additional Fee: $15.00 a day.
3. Economy charges an upgrade fee to Florida residents who drive more than 100 miles per day. Additional Fee: $10.00 per day. This fee is not mentioned until after the order is placed online and given the evacuation order, we exceeded that mileage limit.
The final bill was $317.45 for the “privilege” of driving the Economy car out of harm’s way (Irma). We feel that Economy took advantage of the existing state of emergency.

Economy Rent a Car unethical behaviour, unauthorized credit card charges

I reserved a mid-sized SUV car for one day (Montreal, QC, Canada, Airport location, July 30- July 31) through Priceline and my reservation clearly said, unlimited milaage (KMs). When I went to pick up the car, the executives were very rude, I waited for 2 hours, and the worst is I was said, the maximum I can use is 200Kms per day. If I don't agree, they threatened to cancel my reservation. Similar, things happened to other customers there and most of them were very frustrated. After returning the car, they tried to overcharge me and only after a very heated discussion that they finally agreed to charge me as per my reservation. The worst is, after a few days, they now processed an unauthorized payment of $1, 058 on my credit card for no reason. Now I am trying to call them multiple times and they are saying they are too busy to take care of this. This is a clear case of customer harassment and cheating for now reason and I am sure the other customers who rented the cars on the same day would have similar story to share.

Economy Rent a Car debit card being charged

I, Eugene R. Shelton made reservations for pick-up on Friday June 16, 2017. Upon at Richmond Int. airport I proceeded to the Dollar rental car counter. After presenting confirmation number, we presented a debit card. The counter person informed us that without a credit card the transaction could not be completed. They could not except a debit card. On June 19, 2017 account was debited $549.42. Why was this money taken out of my account when we did not use your vehicle? I need the funds credited back into my account.

Economy Rent a Car rental car at orlando signature rac

I rented a car for my trip to Disney at Economy (SIGNATURE) RAC on Narcoosee Rd 15 minutes from the Orlando International Airport. When I reserved my car the total was $84 when I arrived they added their "Umbrella policy" without my conscent. Bianca did not explain that in addition to the 150 dollar hold their were ALOT of hidden fees. When I received my receipt on the day of my pick up it read $234.17 so I asked if the $150 would be deducted from that and Bianca said yes so my remaining balance would be $84. This was not the case I was charged the full $234.17. If I wanted to spend that much for a 4 day trip I would've used a better rental car place WITHIN THE AIRPORT! Why would I pay double and have to get on a shuttle to retrieve my car.. ALL OF THE ABOVE REVIEWS ARE ACCURATE. If you use Signature RAC you will get ripped off!

Economy Rent a Car Rental car

On 2/11/17 I arrived at Miami International airport to pick up a car I rented from Economy. There were no signs where to pick up and no busses with Economy on them. I called the number on my reservation with out much success. Finally found someone who pointed us to where the bus would come. When we finally were picked up, we were told that are reservation was with Ontrac rent a car. We had to wait 90 minutes while the rude man behind the desk argues with the three families a head of us. In all cases he demanded written proof of car insurance, which none of us had because we were all on holiday. He proceeded to charge $500 to each account. I was able to reach my insurance broker who sent me by email my insurance and he still charged my credit card $500. I did not make my rerservation with this company and was very upset that I had to deal with them

Economy Rent a Car insurance

This Orlando company quoted me a month car rental through Rentalcars.com for $437 but when I arrived after a long flight from Seattle they required that I have my ins. declarations page and ended up charging me $954. I travel for business 2-3 weeks a month and have never had to show this document. I was able to get my ins. agent to email me this but only after I signed the contract. I asked nicely for the rental agent to start over and redo my contract and he said I would be charge more and refused.

There were 50 other couples experiencing the same issue and the office was in complete chaos with many yelling at the agents and some calling Enterprise to com pick them up.

I have contacted Economy, Rentalcars.com and Priceline who owns this website to no avail. I will dispute the credit card charge and never use any of these to find a deal on a car.

Tim and Debbie from Seattle

I also informed her that I miss a toll and would like to paid for the toll so she had me sign off on the toll but never mention she charging for smoking in the car in which we didn't and what the fine would be until I a charge on my credit card.

Economy Rent a Car unauthorized credit card charges

Montreal airport economy rent a car.

I consider this agency to be dishonest and fraudulent. This was absolutely the worst experience i have had dealing with rental agencies. My car thru expedia was quoted at 369.69 with unlimited mileage and all taxes and fees. When sent by email with what should have been no additional charges the total was 627.05. Too many additional fees to even mention here. The front desk manager was aggressive and rude, and i m doing my best to warn other people away from this agency.

Economy Rent a Car rental car

The business offers the cheapest rates in town and than hits you with inflated charges that the customer is forced to pay.

We recently rented a car through Orbitz for a work convention in Orlando. The cheapest rate we found was through Economy Rental Cars. The total cost was $112.33 for our entire stay.
Confirmation # EBTZN0117E83 Dates: 4/25/16 to 4/30/16

Upon landing at the airport, we waited over a hour for their shuttle to take us to their location. Every shuttle that came by was full and there was a 15 minute wait between shuttles. This is when we discovered that their location was not at the airport, but off site. This needs to be spelled out better in all their correspondences. Upon our arrival to their office we watched as several customers in front of us had heated exchanges and disagreements with their staff. When it was our turn, we handed our confirmation email to them. We were immediately asked to provide our insurance certificate to them because we had declined the coverage. This was nowhere to be found on our printed copy of the confirmation (I was able to verify that this was their policy by going back through my emails and then clicking on a link). This information is not easy to find and is hidden purposely so customers don't see this requirement. Usually, getting a copy of our insurance certificate is not a issue, however, it is at 8:00 at night when the insurance offices are closed. I asked if we could add the coverage until we could get them a copy our insurance certificate the next morning. I was told this wasn't a option.
Now they "HAVE US"! Here are our options now...
1.) Accept the additional cost of the insurance for the length of our rental. 2.) Walk away from the deal and lose our $112.33 as they have a no refund policy.
Obviously, we chose option #1. Now, if we would have bought the additional coverage at the time we booked the car, it would have cost us $10.00 additional each day. However, we were charged a additional $164.36 (more than triple the cost)- Our total cost for the car that we booked for $112.33 was now $276.69. All this additional cost for coverage that didn't even cover windshield or tire damage!

We called Orbitz and was told that any refunds would need to be handled by Economy. We all know how that turned out! This is a unethical business that lures you in with low prices and then hits you with inflated prices when you don't have a way out.

At the time of this complaint, there are 162 reviews for this business on Yelp. They have the lowest rating possible! All of the complaints are similar in nature. This is the first business many travelers have interaction with when coming to your city. Welcome to Orlando folks! This business needs to have their policies and fees be more transparent.

Why Orbitz or any other booking agency would continue to promote the services of these types of businesses is absolutely mind blowing.

I feel we should at least be provided a refund for the inflated insurance charges we were charged.

We had almost the exact same experience. Arrived Orlando @12:55 got to Economy by 1:15, the line was around the corner almost to the back of the building. My husband who's an amputee proceeded to stand in line for TWO HOURS then when it was his turn at the counter they pulled the same crap with needing a copy of our insurance. My Husband came & talked to me & I informed him the credit card by which the car was reserved would cover a totaled rental 100% & to tell them to call the # on the back of the card.
They refused & forced him to get their additional coverage. And the original reservation was for a week @ $125 they instead charged a daily fee of $28 ignoring the printed receipt we had. Then the additional insurance etc... Our rental now went to $367.00!
This car company has deceptive practices & should be shut downI will be filing complaints with the BBB, attorney general & my credit card with the expectation of nothing less than a refund of all the over charges if not the entire rental for their deprive practices.

we had EXACTLY the same experience on Thursday may 19th ...get to the business..830 at night tired from a long flight ..stand in line and watch EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER fighting with the front desk..we are wondering what the hell?..sure enough ..we get our turn and bam you need to buy our insurance since you cant show proof of your own ..I have perused my original contract and there is nowhere that it says you need to show proof of insurance...worst part was ..as each customer either gets fed up and leaves or succumbs out of necessity...they would turn and tell all of us to turn around and run as this was the worst experience of their lives...the workers would laugh at them or yell comments in their direction..making comments like ..come again..or stop whining...brutal...on top of all that ..the car they gave us was not the same one we chose ...was filthy inside ...had absolutely no washer fluid and the gas tank was only 5/8 full

Economy Rent a Car Bad Industry Service

On Jan. 29th, I booked, through expedia, a midsized car for Orlando to last a period from Jan. 29 to Feb. 18th…..my confirmation said ‘Your reservation is booked. No need to call us to reconfirm this reservation’…The reservation was with Economy Rent a Car, even though the paperwork states Signature Rent a Car…When we were shuttled in, after waiting for 45 minutes at the pickup spot for a shuttle, there were no cars available for me and while my counter agent conferred with someone in the back over the issue, I was exposed to loud conversations from other clients who were in the same position and one lady was literally shouting to her counter agent about her insurance issue and that they would not accept her proof of insurance even though she had her insurance agent on the line…I could hear the agent say, ‘lady, I am not shouting at you so please don’t shout at me’..
Consequently, we(eight of us) were shuttled back to the airport, I with a reservation made by Signature in my name and again through expedia, for a one day rental from EZ rent a car..the agent there seemed to know my problem before even hearing it from me… although the rental was for 14.23, all the other charges, including the toll pass came to 32.80…Signature, told me that they would deduct the one day rental from my rate, which they did, but only the rental part…and after arguing, they deducted my toll pass, however, all the surcharges, I would have to absorb…Then came the issue of insurance…They would not accept my CAA certificate or my gold card coverage and in spite of my insistence that I had coverage, I was told that I would have to pay 19 dollars per day for coverage from Signature…but, I would get the coverage for a discounted rate of 14 dollars a day..Now I know what the discontent was all about on my first visit..This trick on their part, doubled my rental rate for the period.
When they pulled my vehicle up for us, it looked like it had been in an ‘issis’ attack..It was scratched and dented everywhere and I made the car hop put a big circle around the whole vehicle during the walk around even though he argued that dents only larger than golf balls count…Then when getting in, I notice the inside roof lining separating at both ends of the car entry and I was wondering what was actually holding it up…but we needed a car and I was prepared to live with the issue, tucking in the edge, each time that I got into the car…
The next morning as I got in to go for coffee, my ‘tire’ light was on…I didn’t think it to be a big issue and stopped off and had it inflated at the nearest gas station…The next morning, the same thing happened except after I inflated the same tire, the light still stayed on and I enlisted the help of the mechanic at Sam’s, who found two tires that were going flat…
I took the vehicle back and the supervisor apologized and clearly sounded like he was accustomed to doing so as there was no surprise over my complaint…He attempted to give me an upgrade ‘for just a few more bucks a day’ but I declined and was offered a Volkswagon passat which I continuously kept checking for ‘issue’ lights on the dashboard, but none came up for the period that we had the vehicle..
In summary, I am firstly surprised that expedia would deal with such a ‘non industry standard’ provider and amazed at how ‘slick’ the relentless counter agents are in trying to sell upgrades. But denying our insurance coverage was a new one to me and I have been renting vehicles two or three times a year for at least 20 years…I would have never rented from this provider as I normally am familiar with the brand name renters, however, I trusted expedia and sadly was disappointed with the results…

Economy Rent a Car fraudulent charge

Rental car company: Economy rent a car, ontracrentalcar.co. Address 3265 NW 24th Street, Miami FL, 33142. Repr Mr Manuel Caldera. This rental car company is a fraud. They don't accept any insurance information and force you to buy their insurance, which actually makes the rental much more expensive than any other offers Rentalcars.com gave us. We arrived to the rental office in the van. Waited for 1/2 hour for our turn, while the staff went outside to clean up returned cars. They took our credit car information and charged us. Then they had all kinds of "computer problems" and kept us waiting additional 40 min. Finally they said the that there are no cars. They called the van to pick us up, we left and rented from another company. I try to call them and ask to return the charge, they don't answer the telephone. I disputed the charge and report this company as a fraud.

Economy Rent a Car dishonest charge for the damage

I was given a car with dent and scratches at the time of rental. During the inspection, the staff member of the rental company just noted the big dent on the inspection report and told me no to worry about the minor scratches. When I returned the car, they did a microscopic examination of the car, scratched paint with the thumbs and noted a hole on the passenger's side of the car. They told me that someone tried to break in the car that was a lie. They charged me $516.00 to my credit card and told me that they would keep this as a deposit until the claim is settled by my insurance company. They did charge my card and this was another proof of their dishonesty. Please never rent a car from this company no matter how cheap they quote you the price. These people are Thugs and take advantage f the people when people have to catch their flight.

Economy Rent a Car dangerous rental car

On 3/23/2011 I rented a Hyundai Elantra from the San Jose Airport, Costa Rica. The next day while traveling across the jungle to a distant beach the r/rear tire blew out.The mechanic that changed it told me the other rear tire was also bald, due to a improper wheel alignment. The two front tires were apparently taken off the front and put on the rear.In affect they sent me out in the middle of the jungle with bald tires. They ruined the day as I had to drive back to the hotel before dark. They did change cars the next day. This happened 7 months ago, I'm still waiting for an apology. I've been renting cars for 40 years. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with.

Economy Rent a Car - dishonesty in billing, lack of response

First, they billed us for an amount larger than they were supposed to (according to their published prices), next they charged our credit card an amount still larger than was stated in the bill, and finally, they didn't respond to emails and couldn't be reached by phone.
