Duke Energy Electric bill

In January me and my husband moved into a top floor apartment the bottom floor has not had any residents for the past few years and is not inhabitable at this time. When we had Duke come out to turn on our electric they turned it on for both apartments. The first floor electric had been on for 2 months before I was made aware, I had no way to access the downstairs apartment to turn off everything. Now they are billing us $700 for the usage of electric in the bottom apartment which we do not live in. I have been in contact and fighting with them for over 5 months now with no resolution in sight. I paid $100 in March towards what I thought was my electric bill and it was put into the account for the bottom floor they are not giving me my money back they will not take my name off the account. I have spoken with them many occasions in which customer service has been highly rude with almost all interactions we asked them to come out and disconnect the downstairs apartment so there wouldn't be any further usage. They came out and they turned off our electric on the top floor and left the bottom floor electric on so we called again they were supposed to send out an investigator to show that the reading on meter one for the first floor was indeed for the $600 and not for the second floor which is where we live no one ever showed. I called and according to the notes no one was ever supposed to come out and investigate. I asked them to take my name off to downstairs account. They assured me that my name would be taken off the account. However a few weeks later I get online to pay my bill and see that the account for both apartment 1 and 2 had been closed so I was unable to make the payment. When I called to investigate this matter I was told that the account for apartment floors 1 and 2 were closed. Upon another phone call to the company I was made aware that a new account had been open in my name, and that they consolidated both accounts. I was sent a bill in May for the amount of $658. Every time I call up there I get conflicting stories or am told something completely different I've never gotten the same answer from them twice. I've been calling them every week to every two weeks since March trying to resolve this issue. Last time I spoke with the supervisor by the name of Candy from Duke energy she told me that the $600 for floor one was in fact a previous account in my name that dates back to 2019 for the bottom floor apartment. I've never lived in this city until this past January of 2021. While on the phone with Candy the supervisor I was pretty much called a liar she raised her voice to me several times she kept cutting me off was very rude unpleasant and just overall nasty. Ms. Candy told me during our last conversation that the first floor electric was turned on at my request, that I asked them to turn on electric for downstairs apartment. which is a complete lie, I've never stepped foot inside the downstairs, floor 1 is completely gutted and can't be lived in. (why would I request their services?) I have been told that I have to pay for floor 1, that it's my responsibility to pay or the landlords. Someone has to pay for the usage on floor 1. The usage would be non existent if they did their job correctly. While speaking with Candy I explained that until this is resolved I will not make any payments on the bill until this is resolved, considering that any payment would go towards a debt that is not mine. I'm fighting them to get the $100 refunded from March that they put towards apartment 1, I will not make that mistake again. I asked this supervisor if there is a way we can put the account on a hold so I don't get disconnected, supervisor said to me that she can't help me with that and to contact them once I've been disconnected and we can go from there. I am yet to have a single conversation with this company that is productive and polite. I have been talked down to, yelled at, they have spoken to me with sarcasm and spoke to as if I were a small child. I find it disgusting that they are demanding me to pay for their mistakes. I do not know what to do, I'm getting nowhere with these people.

Desired outcome: A refund for the money they took form me and put towards the wrong account. Have my name removed from this debt.

Duke Energy Tree maintenance & damage to yard

Understand completely that maintenance of trees along power lines is necessary, and appreciate having reliable power - no qualms there.

However, significant damage was done to a cool season lawn heading into summer, while already under drought-like conditions. Significant debris left on lawn had to be raked by hand. Several portions of grass killed due to exhaust from heavy equipment. Less significant damage caused from heavy equipment being driven on yard, and falling branches.

Would appreciate future maintenance taking place during a more grass-friendly time, such as very early spring, or winter so homeowner would have an opportunity to repair damage and not have unsightly bare spots in an otherwise decent lawn.

~$30 was spent on various products to attempt to grow grass in the damaged areas. Fingers crossed, however success rate is likely very low given multiple 90 degree days, and very little rain.

Desired outcome: Future maintenance done in early spring/winter & reimbursement of products to repair damage.

Duke Energy Illegal information sharing

I just set up new service and made it VERY CLEAR that I did not want my information shared with anyone outside of Duke Energy - and that I did not want to participate in any marketing. I was forwarded to "step 2" - which I was told, upon questioning, was necessary to complete my account setup. I AGAIN made it clear that I did not want to participate in any marketing and I was specifically told/ reassured (upon questioning) by the representative that my information would NOT be shared with anyone outside of Duke Energy - and within minutes of the call, I received three separate emails - ALL OF WHICH were from companies outside of Duke Energy - sent to be "for my upcoming move" via Duke Energy.

This is clear deception and against my privacy rights.

Desired outcome: I would like to receive direct communication from a legal representative of Duke Energy confirming my complaint and letting me know what steps they will take.

Duke Energy pole

Have been trying for three years to get Duke Energy to pay for damages to out Lighted Sign at Boulevard Preowned at 2918 Durham Chapel Hill NC 27707. Duke Energy has turned it over to ' Sedgwick Claims" to handle the Claim which of course is a Company that handles Their Dirty Work for them. We have called numerous times to no avail. Back when the damage was reported to Duke Energy a field rep stopped by and told us to turn in the estimate for repairs and they would take care of it so we did that. Now we have nobody to talk to about this?

Desired outcome: want our sign repaired or replaced as promised

Duke Energy Electric service

Our power went out and when Duke arrive to assess the outage, they determined that it was an issue with the power lines before they arrived at our meter on the side of the house. The technician stated the problem was on their end and that they would send someone out to figure out how to fix it because the lines were underground. A duke technician came out to look at it and stated that he was not sure how they're going to fix it, and that he said he was going to talk to his boss, Josh. Josh came out and I had my friend Rob Wells who was a building inspector meet him at the house. Josh and Rob came to the agreement that if the line was in conduit Duke would repair it, but if it wasn't, we've been responsible for. Duke came out, dug a hole in the ground filled in back in without taking a picture or letting anyone see it and claim that the line was not in conduit. I dug that hole out to see what they were talking about but there were no lines to be found. We contacted Josh to see if you come out and show us where this Power line was. Josh said he was not going to come out and show us. I've reached out to his boss Clint but he is not returned my calls. I have dug multiple holes but still cannot find this power line. I'm hoping to find this power line, which should be in conduit because it goes under the driveway.

Desired outcome: Do not lie to me about the power line and help me find it like they agreed to do

Duke Energy High energy

In March you came out and put in a new meter and my electric bill went up to 638.00. I do not see how this is possible I contacted your customer service and they were just like this is what it is and this is all we can do. I believe that my meter was ready and once you installed the new meter you did a manual read and it double my bill. I cannot afford to pay bills like this as my husband is on disability. And I am seeing this more and more that you have gouged people even one person I know has a vacant house and you did it to her with nothing running in the house. I would appreciate it if you would slash this bill and credit my account and give me my money back.

Desired outcome: Credit my account half

Duke Energy COVID related restriction to entering unoccupied buildings to cap gas lines

I received a bill for almost $900 in March of 2021 for an empty office suite in a commercial building that we own. It covered the periods of November 2020 through March 2021. The bulk of the billing was related to a fee that is charged JUST TO HAVE GAS AVAILABLE EVEN IF THERE IS NO USAGE. It is almost $100 per month. This is not a billing for the gas itself. I called 5 plus times to ask for this to be reviewed because I would normally "cap" the gas to prevent this charge and usage HOWEVER due to COVID, they could not send anyone out to perform this for me. Every single time that I called, the agent told me that they would "note the account" and "send it to billing" for review. Neither of these were performed in any of my calls. Including wait times and time on the phone explaining my situation, I had over 3 hours into this. I requested that a supervisor call me today to discuss and was told that I would receive a call within 4 hours. It's been 5 hours. I'm not sure what has happened with the standards of customer service at Duke but it is beyond excusable to treat customers this way. I have never experienced this many people in an organization who have absolutely no follow through and no regard for helping a customer. It is a sad situation and if I had a choice, I would happily find another supplier. Obviously, Duke has no regard for the effects of COVID on their customers! Disallowing employees to "cap off" gas lines has become a revenue center for Duke at the expense of their very own customers. What a corrupt and disappointing business model that is! I paid your huge bill and I can only hope that you figure things out in the world of treating people right!

Desired outcome: Refund of Fixed Delivery Service Charges

Duke Energy New service

Horrible customer service. Every time I call I get put on hold for long periods. I can't even get through to turn on service. I am a new customer and this looks really bad. I've tried multiple times and can not get someone to help me. A huge embarrassment for a company this size. Do you not have managers that monitor the call volume? If you won't hire enough call agents at least allow me to do it online but NOPE can't do that either. A major slap in the face to your new customers and all the people who need jobs right now. HUGE embarrassment. Been on hold over an hour and after trying multiple times on different days. I hope you realize what horrible customer service this is.

Desired outcome: SERVICE!!!

Duke Energy High electric bill

To whom it may concern,
On 2-19-21 I received multiple calls from Duke Progress Energy in reference to disconnection services. On 2-23-21 I signed into my account and learned that I had a past due balance of $136.77 and a new balance of $372.00. I placed a call to Duke Progress Energy on 2-23-21 to discuss the issue at hand. The representative noted that he would send a specialist out to review the meter to see if the information was reported correctly. In sitting in plain view of the street, I noticed a technician pull up to a newly renovated property at 4413 Whisperwood Drive two times on this day. Now, I am really wondering if the proper meter was read for my residence. The property at 4413 Whisperwood Drive had major renovation done around the clock for about two months. The energy consumption in this two person (single mother and one dependent who is currently active in sports and working two jobs) 1500 square foot home located at 4408 Whisperwood Drive Raleigh NC 27616 is not nearly as much as the claimant is reporting. I have a gas fireplace and spent a lot of money for crawl space and attic insulation last year. I also had a technician that was soliciting clients in Home Depot come and check the vents and heating system a month ago and the repairman noted everything was in proper working conditions. I keep the thermostat at the same temperature regardless of of the temperature outside. I am quite surprised to receive such a heavy electricity bill. I know that I have not been using more electricity than before and I have not been using any power-consuming large electrical appliances. After research and review this appears to be an issue in the area, multiple residents have received a large increase for the month of February in the amount of $200.00 or more. Needless to say there has been some anomaly or breach of duty. Either the meter readings have not been taken properly or this a system issue company wide.
When you dive deeper, our meteorologists say in Raleigh, a typical January has eight 60+ degree days, but in 2021, we only had one. By comparison, we had ten 60+ days in January 2020. It appears many companies are taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic and the halt of disconnection services for individuals facing hardship issues is being placed on randon selected individuals. https://abc11.com/duke-energy-central-electric-heat-bill-utility/10316924/
I am quite disturbed how such an exaggerated bill amount could have been reached. So I request you to have someone review this bill and have my meter checked and also get the meter readings confirmed. I shall be obliged if an adjustment would be made to clear up this issue. In addition, I would be grateful if you could settle this matter in accordance with the provisions to the satisfaction of your customer. I look forward to hearing from you within the next 7 days.
Thanking you,

Sherhonda Reid

I am a customer of Duke Energy. I live on disability once a month I cannot afford these price hikes I cannot afford my power bill as it is. Me and my family have to live in the cold because we cannot afford to pay over $100 a month for an electric bill. The only answer to this problem is for Duke Energy to stop anymore price hikes. They have enough money they are multi billionaires and they could really use the help on helping the poor income low class people. I get my bills I pay my bills on the day that I get my disability check and one hour later I am broke. I can't pay what I don't have. I don't own anything I can't go anywhere I have no extra money to even buy paper towels. Say no to Duke Energy price hikes. They have out priced America. Already get low energy income check but it's nowhere near enough. They only give me $300 credit. That doesn't even get me through the summer heat. I'm an elderly person and I cannot burn up in the summer and freeze in the winter. My health cannot take it. Say no to Duke Energy price hikes no more price hikes we cannot take it anymore and stay legal. Say no to Duke Energy price hikes.

Duke Energy Customer service representatives do not help customers

Account: [protected]
Duke Power Customer Service Employees hung up on me three times while I was trying to understand my bills as they don't match with the past due amount. I unfortunately did not write down their names, but it feels like this is something they do when the question gets too complicated. I was explaining my questions: balance online shows $276.91, payment due to avoid disconnection by 12/10/20 is $256.53 BUT in the bill from 11/13/20 it says please pay $103.09 to avoid disconnection by 12/10/20 which we did on 11/25/20. I also asked to have a service fee waived as I made one payment of $153.44 twice on 11/3/20. I am unemployed right now and struggling to pay my bills in time, so it is very frustrating to not get help while I am just trying to figure out how to make things work and avoid disconnection.

Duke Energy Failure to restore yard after digging for underground power line and box

From Robert and Freddie Gillespie
4 Village Overlook Loop, Swannanoa, NC 28778
[protected]@bellsouth.net [protected]

On Friday November 6, 2020 Duke Power's contractor was installing an underground line at the edge of new paving by our lot and dug on our property. They were going to place a green box there without permission.
They ended up placing the box elsewhere but did not restore the ground where they dug and left backhoe tracks at the location.

We request that Duke restore that place on our lot.

Duke Energy Limemen

During power outage of wind storm in rutherford county nc I was told by the recording of the outage line there were 1,488 without power. This was Thursday morning. I called the outage number daily to get updates. Sunday came and the numbers were down to 168 we still had no power. Sunday evening around 4 pm I noticed my neighbor whom is within 100 yards from me had power, so I go to other neighbors to check. They all have power but I'm still without. I call the update nunber again and ask to speak to customer service. I was connected to Omar in Florida, he stated that it showed power was restored and ask if I wanted to report another outage. I did that and then explained to him that the supervisor linemen here was Sammy Pruett and me and him have exchanged words within the past year and I would hope that he did not do this on purpose. Omar stated to me that I was the only person showing that still had an outage. I finish my conversation with Omar and go to the Duke Energt office located in Spindale NC and ask to speak to Sammy Pruett. He comes out and is hostile and accusing me of hitting someone in the larking lot, which never happened. He then proceeds to tell me that their is still 3, 000 people without power and just because all my neighbors have power means nothing. I know better than this. My neighbor and I are on the same transformer, always have been. I ask to speak to Alton Greene which is Sammy Pruett supervisor. I know this because of the altercation a year prior. So he did call Alton and let me speak to Alton after he told him I was there wanting to know why I had no power when everyone within a 10 mile radius of me had power. I spoke to Alton briefly and was told by him that it did not mean anything that others around me had it and I didn't. I tried explaining to him that I am on the same transformer as my neighbor Ronald luckadoo. He told me that didnt matter and he wasnt sure but it coukd have been a bad fuse. So I leave the spindale office and head back home, as I'm within 100 yards of pulling into my driveway I see a Duke Energy truck coming from the direction of my residence. I pull up to my home and see my garage light on so I know at that point I have power. The spindale location Duke energy office is 10 minutes from my home, I was told by sammy Pruett that a crew from Wilmington NC would be out soon to check my residence but that crew was in Avondale which is 25 minutes from my reaidence. He stated that I should be patient they will be heading that way as soon as their done in Avondale. So within my 10 minute drive this crew 25 minutes away had already turned on my power and leaving before I pull in driveway. I guess they had a jet or was magical to get it done before I get home considering they were further away than I was. So I leave my home to go back to the spindale locatuon to speak to Alton Greene once again and happen to see a service truck with Duke energy service truck number 18615 and spoke with a female driver and male passenger. I ask if they could tell me what the primary conductor number was for 294 dorotht Glen drive forest city nc was and also the circuit number of that transformer. They stated that the primary conductor number was 15261206 and the circuit number was hudlow 1206. This is my neighbors address, my address is 158 dorothy Glen drive forest city nc. I compared the primary conductor number and circuit number to the one I got from sammy Pruett computer of my address and they were a match. So with that being said I knew at that point we were in fact on the same transformer and if there was a bad fuse then he wouldnt have had power and me not. There is 1 fuse that runs a single transformer. So if in fact we are on the same transformer and I know for a fact we are then someone had to disconnect my line from that transformer to turn my neighbor on amd leave mine off. Sammy Pruett and Alton Greene knew this and I'm assuming they were the ones to purposely have this done. I want a resolution of repremand for these individuals. This is uncalled for and disgusting to think someone could be so low. I had already lost thousands of dollars in food not xounting the mental anguish from this. I would like to jave a meeting with someone in regards to this matter. My email is [protected]@yahoo.com. I look fprward to speaking with someone to get this matter dealt with in a professional matter as soon as possible. I also look to speak with a news/ radio station in the near future so I can educate others on the facts about how these transformers operate and function so noone else can be taken advantage of by people like sammy pruett and Alton Greene. I also habe a recording of the conversation with sammy Pruett. omar Omar also stated during our conversation that if my meter was blank then there was a problem with my like to the transformer.

Duke Energy Failure to advise neighbor of dangerous tree

My name is Edward Riester and I live at 4 Deerfield Rd in Biltmore Forest. I advised the town manager of a dangerous tree in my neighbor yard that was leaning over the utility wires. I was told that a representative came and inspected the tree and deemed it okay to the owner Ginny Weiler at 3 Amherst Rd. Said tree came down on 09./13/2020 at about 4:00 PM. It took out all the utility cables and an older pole behind 8 Deerfield Rd. It damaged several of my trees and blew out my Invisible Fence. I was home but my fortunately my dog was not. The picture of the trees show the neighbor's tree horizontally. The blacken wall shows the results of the blown dog fence device. So far I am out $3250.00 for tree removal. I was being proactive by bringing the neighbors dangerous tree to both the town and to Duke but I am the only one out a significant amount of money. I am also a customer at 7 Westside Drive Asheville, NC 28806. Please comment,
