DriveTime Automotive Group 2006 volkswagen jetta/lemon car

On June 14, 2014 I purchased a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta from DriveTime Car Sales Company, LLC DBA DriveTime of 2125 Savannah Highway Charleston, SC [protected].They sold me the car for $11, 195.00 + $15.00 State License Fee + $24.00 State Title Registration Fee + $299.00 Closing Fee + $2, 895.00 Drivetrain Protection + $595.00 GAP Coverage + $495.00 SkyLink Service + $300.00 Sales Tax = $15, 816 Subtotal - $1700.00 Down Payment = $14, 118.00.
For a solid year I never missed a payment no matter what.
But 2 weeks after purchase I started having problems. First the Coolant Reservoir broke and I had to replace at my expense not covered under the warranty.
Then while going on a trip to my sisters about a month into having the car as I was driving to her place about 80 miles away the car started cutting up like cutting off but it would start back go a couple of feet and cut off again. I check to make sure not hot and it wasn't.
So for routine maintenance I took to my mechanic had oil changed, filters/strainers and fluid for transmission thinking this would help. Also serpentine belt changed. Of course all this out of my pocket.
Then again on another trip to my sisters the same thing after traveling around 70 miles it started cutting off again. When cooled off it worked fine until about that mileage again.
This has continued every time I try to take a trip over 50 miles.
I have had it for a week in the Columbia Volkswagen Dealership Service Center and they could not find anything wrong. I had to have it towed this time.
So I continued payments and driving but continued cutting off even on the interstate. Yes I like to have gotten killed because it just powers down and cuts off while running 60 miles per hour.
My scenario I have found is if I drive 60 miles per hour for 70-80 miles then the car powers down and shuts off. Yes it will start back but only go a few feet. I have found if I stop for 2 hours when it does this to let the car cool off then it will travel about that distance again.
After changing the serpentine belt it was found the alternator was badly damaged and had to be replaced but that was only after the belt broke and put me walking. (Had to have towed)
In April while going to my cousins in Martinez, Ga it done the same thing - power down on the interstate and almost cause a crash. I went to the Volkswagen Dealership Service Center in Augusta, Ga. They told me no need to put on machine for diagnostic tests to just let car do it and take a picture of the dash then call them and they would tow me in and work on it.
Then I came home did it again so took to shop they found catalyst converter stopped and fixed it but on next trip car still powered down and shut off.
This is very dangerous and I could be killed but the bad part I have had my 11 year old grandson with me that could get killed as well.
This has been going on for almost 2 years now. Matter of fact it has been in the shop for 2 weeks and I have been without transportation this past 2 weeks. I placed it there 7/18/2016 and still there trying to find the problem.
I stopped making payments to pay repairs so what does DriveTime/Bridgman do they add the payments to the back of my loan.
I have tried trading or getting another car but cant do anything because of this large amount charged to me on this account.
I feel I was sold a lemon and taken advantage of for the amount financed.
I need help of some kind to get some decent transportation. Taken advantage of and scared I will get killed before problem can be found with this car. I have tried and tried to get it fixed! Scared to death of causing a crash.
PLEASE HELP
Company has once again changed names to Bridgecrest
Thank you,
Shelby Knopf

DriveTime Automotive Group bait and switch

I looked at cars there and researched for over 6 days, I went to the dealership and was told I could get 3 cars and one I really liked. I walked in ready to sign the paperwork, the salesman came back in his office and said that was not one of the cars I had to pick from the 2 others and I tried a second car and it has a bad wheel baring. And the driver side shock was banging also. I went in and he said well the car I was trading in was a 2004 dodge Durango with less than 150k. It had a full 3rd row entertainment center with DVD video, I just got it a month before and he said my car was worth 300 dollars I just paid 7k for it a month ago. By that time I was done so I went to have the car appraised it was worth 4.5k . I felt like they thought I was idiot off the street that they could take advantage of.

DriveTime Automotive Group chevrolet hhr

I bought a 2007 Chevy HHR from Drive Time about 3 years ago. This was the first car I had every purchased and I was 21 at the time. I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE THIS COMPANY. I have a laundry list of things that have broken on my car and I'M STILL PAYING ON IT. It's not like I don't take care of my car, it gets regular oil changes, regularly cleaned, I bought a whole set of new tires when I bought the car as well. I get it checked constantly. The driver's door handle broke off, this happened when I first bought the car, but I was told it was fixed, the best one that is whenever it rains, WATER fills up on the passenger floorboard and my car is flooded! I have literally had to bail out water from my passenger seat with a cup. I've talked to warranty and drivetime multiple times and NOTHING is covered on the warranty. They call that normal wear and tear. A car I'm still paying on and breaking is not normal wear and tear. I might as well be driving my other car that's a 91 and in better shape! I spend more money fixing cosmetic issues on this car than actually having it do what I need it to do. My back seat also broke. God forbid I brake and the entire seat comes forward, the radio no longer works when the car is cold, the back windshield wiper has stopped working, the windows don't lock...I can't wait to get rid of this car! Save your money and go to a REAL DEALERSHIP.

Hi Ivargas92,

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear about all the issues you have encountered with your Chevy HHR. DriveTime Automotive Group false paperwork

Drive time made my daughter the primary person on a for her father without her providing proof of income to see even if she could make payments on the car that she doesn't have and has never had. It shows up on her credit and they will not take her off of the paperwork. Because she can not purchase a car of her own because he is not making the payments and she is the one they call when they can't get him. She did not realize she was the primary on this car. He father tricked her and so did drive time. She needs to be taken off that car because she would not ever at this time in her life be able to afford the car. Plus there is other aspects to this account.

DriveTime Automotive Group audi

I financed a car on 12/4/2015 and it's been drivable about 15 days since then. I had to replace the battery 2 weeks after the purchase even though they did a diagnostic test and said it was fine. The car still won't run and have gone to their recommended mechanic and he couldn't find the problem. Drivetime will not return calls or emails and Averex is useless. Nobody will help me rectify this issue. They have no problem taking the payment every 2 weeks but can't seem to return an email. I have a 3 year warranty which has become useless with the lack of customer service and intelligence thru Averex. Does anyone have a good lawyer in the Bradenton FL area that deals with these situations. Nothing like paying $33, 000 for a car you can't even drive.

DriveTime Automotive Group undisclosed hail damaged vehicle sold to me / should have been salvaged title

I purchased a 2010 Toyota Camry from Drivetime in Phoenix Arizona. I had to finance approx. $18, 000. A mechanic I took the car to for a separate issue advised the vehicle has had SEVERE Hail Damage and would be very expensive to bring back to normal condition if at all. I went to a second mechanic who advised that the vehicle should have been Salvaged. I was assured by Drivetime when I purchsed the vehicle that all was good according to CARFAX report. The 2 mechanics I brought the car to both could tell that the vehicle had been Bondo'd, Buffed and Repainted to appear as there was no damage. Drivetime advised when I purchased the car that they inspect all cars on their lots thoroghly.

Last week I called Drivetime Customer Service department who advised me to take the car back to the dealership and have the mechanic look into the situation. I took the car in and spoke with the Manager Josh at Camelback and 21st ave location who stated he does not handle anything once the vehicle is off the lot . I went to the Drivetime mechanic behind them and was advised to cal Regional manager of the Drivetime Mechanic Dept as there was not a mechanic availiable. I left a message for Will and he called me back only to say he does not deal with this issue either and to call Client Relations. I called Client Relations and spoke with Whitney (Male) who told me to get and estimate on the hail damage and mail it to them. As I was at this point extremely frustrated, I ask the Whitney (Male) to speak to his manager. Whitney stated he was the highest point of contact at Drivetime other than Patrick Littler (Managing Driector) but Whitney REFUSED to give me his number or any contact information. Whitney stated Patrick does not take calls and that he was the person directly under Patrick. 2/18/16 I took the vehicle to the Toyota Body Shop and they would not help advising to retain an Attorney to handle a Fraud and Misrepresentation case. I am actively seeking an attorney to represent this case as Drivetime is still refusing to do anything. If you are an attorney or know one that specializes in this type of Fraud/Contract Misrepresentation lease email me at [protected]@gmail.com. I will keep everyone posted on the outcome.

DriveTime Automotive Group 2011 nissan quest

I purchased a 2011 Nissan quest from drive time, in April of 2015.Like most others the car gave me problems from the beginning with a promise that the warranty would cover all defects, I spoke to someone at drive time a few days after my purchase, because the car was stalling, I was told to take it to the mechanic, and that they would take care of it. The last straw for me was when my car just turned off in the middle of traffic with my family in it, we tried to start the car back up, but nothing seemed to work, I immediately called them, and I was told that " I could have it towed if I wanted to! “The previous problems were never fixed, they kept dragging them, until the warranty was invalid, and then told me that the warranty was over, even though I had addressed the problems several weeks prior. I was told that nothing could be done on their part so I was forced to pay (out of pocket) for a brand new battery. Keep in mind I hadn't had the car for a month before the problem occurred. I noticed, a noise in the brakes when I purchased the vehicle, and told them about it, they told me that it would stop over time, and I had no choice, but to wait the noise eventually got extremely bad, and they again would not do anything, so I had to pay for new brakes, shocks, and struts, because according to pep boys they were in horrible condition. Several people have lost a lot of money with this company, and it is not right that they get away with it. My newest, and most costly problem is that the car smokes horribly. I then thought it would be a good idea to purchase a protection plan for the car. I took the car to the Nissan dealership in my area, and they told me that the ENGINE WAS SLUGGED, and that was what was causing the smoking. They also told me that the only way to fix it was to get a new engine! I was also told that this problem was preexisting, and that the engine had been like that for quite a while, and it was due to the previous owners neglect, and due to this my plan would not cover its repairs. I took it drive Time once again and they told me that they would cover the repairs, when I took it in they said it was due to me filling the oil too much, which didn't make sense, but I figured I would let them take whatever process they wanted as long as my vehicle was taken care of. Yet again Drive time found another reason not to fix my car, they told me that they already paid for the oil flush, and that was what they told me they would cover, which was not the case At all. So now I am stuck with a useless car that I have to make payments for because if I don't it will Ruin my credit, and I cannot afford that. Drive times carelessness, and lack of respect, and consideration for its customers is one of the worst I have seen with any company, and I will pursue this matter by any means. I work hard to make ever dollar I have, and it is being stolen from me by this company. PS WE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS FROM FIRST DAY BOUGHT

DriveTime Automotive Group fraud

We have been paying on our Drivetime XL7 for about 4 years now. My husband asked me today "how much to we owe?" I logged in and saw we owed 13, 000 still... We bought it for over 18k and I KNEW the high interest rate of 18%. I knew what we were doing and I knew we were going to pay more, so no complaint there- but if you do the math... I should owe less after 4 years of payment... even with that interest rate. So I called and asked about it. One nice employee sent me over a copy of my payment history and what was applied to principal and what was applied to interest. Imagine my surprise when 25 (!) payments went only to interest! So I called again and asked and got the run around. Asked to speak to a supervisor- got put on hold for an hour and a half (I put my phone on speaker and went about doing my own thing wondering if they would pick up) Nope- finally they just hung up on me. So I called back. This time all the mangers where in a meeting.. Hm.. I then was sent back and forth to different departments, everyone had a different story, no one could explain why payments weren't applied to interest expect to say "Drivetime can decide how much of each payment gets applied to principal or interest." Uh.. no. That is not how that works. So fed up at this time about the run around, I contacted an attorney and he looked things over and agreed.. something is VERY wrong with how my payments have been applied. Part of each payment should be going to principal- but it isn't happening that way... We are gathering information and more than likely gearing up to hire an lawyer and go after them. This is not what I want. I am not the sue happy type. All I want is an explanation and my account fixed- but no one at drivetime will even talk to me now. I am convinced my account is now flagged because they know I am on to them.

Hi Deborah,

I am sorry to hear you are dissatisfied with your experience. Due to DriveTime specializing in financing for people with less than perfect credit, the interest rate on the financing can be quite high. The total price of the vehicle can also be higher because it sometimes includes optional products such as the Vehicle Protection Plan, Gap Insurance, and SkyLink GPS. I would like the chance to address your concerns regarding your simple interest loan. If you would like to discuss your concerns further please call our Customer Relations Department at [protected].

Sincerely, Cynthia - Customer Relations

DriveTime Automotive Group they promised me to pay for the whole job

I had the accident and damaged my car and the car in front of me. The warranty was done through Drive Time Aeverex Warranty Service. At first they said that they would cover all costs, but later I got the copy of the report, where I have found wrong information about the accident. They stated that it was partially my mistake, but it wasn’t. So, they agreed to replace only front rotors and new brake pads. That’s all, for other stuff I should pay from my own pocket.

Hi Reviewer48010,
We are sorry to hear of the accident you were involved in and hope you are okay! Aeverex only covers items listed in the Vehicle Service Contract upon normal mechanical failures. Aeverex does not cover repairs on a vehicle if it has failed due to an accident. Typically, you would need to file a claim with your insurance company and the insurance company would assist with accident related repairs. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Service Department at [protected], should you have additional questions or concerns you would like for us to address. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

DriveTime Automotive Group defective vehicle sold 2015

On or About 25-Apr-2015 I purchased this vehicle a Mercury Milan 2008, so far I am unable to locate the " service contract " information and or what it entails regarding the additional costs into the contract. I do know the vehicle was being declined from being worked on by a mechanic [South Western Motors] in San Bernardino, California. The car was taken to South Western Motors just before the thirty (30) days warranty expired. The Drive Time was called and the warranty company (Aeverex) also. The mechanic declared he wasn't working on the vehicle due to substantial vehicle loss, and major breakdown expenses. Then further added, " I should take the car back and get my money back ". Upon, requesting that, I was threatened by one of Drive Time employee's, claiming I would have the car taken and my credit messed up. Since, I've made several notes regarding the vehicle which include the engine, transmission, cooling system and radiator. That had gone overlooked and the vehicle had been leaking fluids and having mechanical problems, resulting in two (2) transmissions put in in the course of four (4) months apart. The mechanics both stated at different locations that the engine needs replacing and ever since these matters has been brought up to the dealer, they have been ignored and costing me deductibles, on the matters in which I never caused the problems. Also, my insurance company Progressive denied the claim on the vehicle back in November 2015, based on their claims that the vehicle had a previous claim involving " sand, air, water damage " in 2012, that was never stated to us, prior to purchasing the vehicle. And, since then made numerous claims and complaints about the engine light still being on, after the second transmission and radiator was placed into the vehicle in November 2015. I have spoken with Todd Haggerstorm with the Bureau of Automotive Repair on the 7th of January 2016, and he spoke to Lucas Blakenship of Drive Time who is the owner of this company and works at Riverside Drive Time. He has yet to respond, or call me back in its regards to this matter, and was informed of a request to trade the vehicle or refund the money the consumer paid into the car, along with the deductibles, on the Alternator, Battery, Wheel Hub, and Brakes... This car as I view the phony " Recall Results " that were taken off of the internet, and presented to us, dated 04/25/2015-it shows nothing regarding the " water damage ", biohazard-when the A/C, or Heater is turned on, nor does it show any accidents on the car, but notes a zero! While the contract shows the vehicle was involved in an accident.

DriveTime Automotive Group 2010 dodge caravan

07/08/2015 We want to return this 2010 Dodge Caravan because the interest rate was to high and there is a problem with the brakes. I heard this noise when we test drove it, but we were told that there was nothing wrong with the van, that is just how dodge vehicles sound. We have tried to get the van refinanced through other finances companies and was told no because, it was sold to us for more than the retail purchase price. We are upside down in the price for what they are charging and the actual retail price for a 2010 dodge caravan with 95, 000 and over miles on it.

DriveTime Automotive Group poor service

I purchased my car lease had it for a week had to take it to dealer to get airbag recall done and was told by dealer that the oil change, transmission fluid, and brake fluid needed to be flushed asap. It is in severe condition, which, explains why the car is driving funny. I was slapped with a $416 bill and was told it just sat on the lot for a year being test driven and not serviced. Not to mention I had to wait 2 weeks when I was ready to purchase the vehicle because the dealership lost the keys. I have the car a week and it has been in the shop twice. I am furious! They tell me to make sure I maintain maintenance when they can't!

DriveTime Automotive Group leasing program

I recently leased a 2005 Kia Sorento from the DriveTime dealership in Orange Park Florida. I have only had this vehicle 3 weeks and the Bolt/Shaft that connects the Crankshaft to the Belt system on the truck snapped off inside the engine block while I was driving it with my wife, daughter and 4 yr old grand daughter and I almost lost control of the vehicle but managed to get it to the side of the road. Anyways, after having the vehicle towed to a garage in their network (as stated by their company), I contacted the warranty company about this issue and was told that they did not and would not cover the cost of any repairs on the vehicle because it didn't cover the part(s) in question. The next day I received a call from the garage asking how they were going to get the $600 cost of the repair, and I said the leasing company because i am within my 30 days. I then contacted DriveTime Leasing Office and was given a run around for 3+ days because they had to get approval on the repair. After 50+ hrs of waiting, I was told that the repairs would be covered but not until i payed the leasing company $409 in charges for going over my allowed miles for the month. According to my contract with them, it stipulates that I have 24k miles that I cannot go over per year, and 79k miles plus on the life of the lease. No Where does it state anything about monthly charges outside of the cheap and crappy warranty policy on the repairs it self (btw i had no problem paying the $100 deductable). Now, I have already payed the bi weekly payment that I agreed to today, and now only 2 payments into my obligation to DriveTime, and now im told that if I do NOT pay the $409 of over charges on the mileage by the 31st of this month, they are not paying or having the truck repaired and I am risking having my truck repo'd. Now I again state that NO WHERE in the contract that I signed does it state any monthly fee's or charges I have to pay on any kind of allowed monthly miles, only yearly and over the life of the agreement. This is totally unfair practice, and I feel that I was taken advantage of by DriveTime, their Sales People, and the Leasing dept. I currently own a Mobile Detailing Business that I use this truck to help me with this business, and if I was told I was only allowed so many miles per month I would of NEVER agreed to this lease or its terms. Now I cannot even find an attorney in my local area to help me fight against this type of bull crap. Something needs to be done to stop businesses like this from taking advantage of people that cannot afford to by new. I mean isn't it bad enough that I have to pay 16, 000 for a vehicle that is only worth 9700?

DriveTime Automotive Group suv

I been leasing a vehicle through drive time for almost a month now. The brakes started squeaking the second day I had the vehicle and has not stop and it's been about a month, the service engine soon light came on, the second week I had the vehicle I had the oil checked and I was told that the vehicle didn't have any oil in it at all and the filter was very very very dirty, the vehicle had a very very very very I repeat very bad smell on the inside! I paid 75 dollars to get it detailed and the smell was still there!

DriveTime Automotive Group car repossession due to their error

I have been an excellent customer of Drive Time for over a year. This morning I woke up to find that my car was missing. After an exhausting search with the police, I found out that Drive Time took it because they could not find our new insurance policy that we sent in. The car had my son's wheelchair in the back and some of my teaching supplies inside. I have never been late on a payment or on an insurance payment. When my insurance company called them to find out why they took it, a young woman told them, "Oh, I see a Farmer's insurance policy. I don't know why we took it." We asked the company to pay the nearly $600 dollars that it is going to take to get the car back. They refused and said it's not their policy. So, even though I did nothing wrong, they are unwilling to make it up to me. I am so disappointed in their reaction to this situation. I am a teacher with 3 children, one of whom has a terminal illness. I live from pay check to pay check, but I get all of my bills paid and I am a good person. So, here are the options: I can either pay to get the car back and put nothing in my children's stockings or I can let it go back and drive an old clunker around until I can get another car. It was nice to have the car, because our wheelchair van lift broke and we are able to put my son's manual wheelchair in the back while he sat in the front with his ventilator plugged in. Not the best ride for him, but at least we could get him to the doctor visits. I would like Drive Time to know how upsetting their policy of not taking care of customers is. If this does not get resolved, I think the local news channel would be interested in this story.

DriveTime Automotive Group they refused to help me, when the car stopped

I bought car from Drive Time DT Corp. After 2 months I drove and stopped for the fuel. After that the car didn’t start and I called to this company, which refused to help me with the towing. I was shocked, because this company got about $30, 000 from me and now they have refused to tow the car. I was completely upset with such attitude and services. But when I bought from them, the rep assured me that I would get all necessary support at any time. Lie.

DriveTime Automotive Group used car overcharging

I had my car for two years. I am going to bring car back to them because of the excessive charges. I put $700 down, paid faithfully the whole time. In past year i called to check balance and it remained the same amount of money for $12,0000. I also paid extra payments when i could. The car is a ford focus 2008 87,000. It was sold to me about 77 thousand miles approx. I only used car to go to medical appointments since i am disabled veteran and local errands. I was afraid to drive long distances with it because of mechanical issues it was having.

DriveTime Automotive Group lied to and racism

Well let me start by saying worst experience ever . I got approved online them they tell me I have to put 1, 900 down for a 2005 Ford focus that they wanted 11, 000 for that's not worth that . Then they come tell me that there is no negotiations on the down payment but yet the lady that was beside me got her price dropped. And as we were walking out I over heard the so called manager say if she wasn't white I'd help her . So it's because I'm white ? My money is just as good as any Hispanic Asian or black person ! Not satisfied and won't recommend them to anyone and will post on every review board I can .

DriveTime Automotive Group used car in bad condition

I purchased a car from drive time and with in almost 3 months the engine light came on and within 5 minutes of the engine light coming on the car stopped. I have 4 children and was 39 weeks pregnant at the time. Me and the kids had to walk home and did not get home until 2:30am. I have had to pay for rentals and the warranty will pay me back, but who has enough money to pay for rentals and continue to pay almost $500 a month for a car that does not work. The automotive place just told me that the car needs a new engine? A new engine after almost 3 months. THIS concerns me. Everyone in drive time is nice but this is not customer service. I purchased a car from car max 2 years ago and never had an issue with my car. Carmax cares about their vehicles and obviously their customers. Even when someone totalled my carmax car it was still driving. Its amazing! I did not feel scandled by carmax but I do with drive time. I am now 40 weeks pregnant and could go a into labor at any time! At this moment I have no car and its in the shop and says it will need a new engine but they need to send as inspector out first which could take days and then fixing it could take weeks. I guess this is why they MAKE you put a warrenty on their vehicles. As carmax gives you the option of a warrenty! I do not trust drive time this hurts that a company would sell a single mother a messed up vehicle or even anyone a messed up vehicle. I hope they just give me my money back but we all know even if they were wrong that wont happen. Do not put on my comment that this is not true because I will put the name of the body shop on this coMment along with the vin number of the vehicle and the claim number for the warranty! This story Is true and im telling the world!

You bought a used car, the engine light came on and you kept driving for another 5 min... How is this anyone's fault?
Then the warranty company said they need to have a adjuster look at the car... Again, why is it anyone's fault that they have to do the job that needs to be done?
You said you have 4 kids and you are 40 weeks pregnant... AGAIN why is this the fault of the Warranty Company and what does it have to do with the complaint about them?
As far as CarMax being better because the car was still drive-able after an accident is not the same thing...
