Dollar Rent A Car scams customers

Rented from Dollar in Orlando Airport. I declined the insurance coverage and the man at the counter rushed me through advancing the POS screens. then called the next customer before I reviewed anything. A week after I returned the car, I was billed $179.18 for extra insurance. Called Dollar got no satisfaction. They did the same thing to my daughter. They are thieves, don't rent from them. They already have a complaint being investigated by the Florida Attorney General, and I just filed another complaint. Rent elsewhere so you don't become a victim of their scam. just search the internet for Dollar rent a car complaints, and you'll see thius a common practice for them.

Dont Rent From Dollar
Houston, US
Jul 21, 2011 3:46 am EDT

I rented from Dollar and had the worst experience. When renting the car I repeatedly informed the agent that I did not want the insurance which totaled 45.00 per day. The agent kept me an extra 30 minutes trying to upsell their different insurance policies. When he could finally tell that I was frustrated he offered to upgrade me to a larger vehicle and promised to get me out out quickly. When I went thru the prompts on the signature pad and came to the question regarding insurance he instructed me to accept the insurance waiver. I figured it meant that I did not want the insurance, but when I got the bill I was so wrong. It actually meant I was accepting the insurance. Of course there were no managers available to dispute, and they assured me someone would call me the next day. So, I waited for a call from the manager, which I never received, I drove to the Houston Hobby airport location and spoke to them directly. They then had three managers on duty who each said, "sorry you signed on the dotted line." I asked for them to review the security tapes, where they could clearly see I was very adamant about not wanting the insurance. They said the tape is only a visual and there is no sound. I then asked for them to take me through the key pad prompt again. They refused, stating they were unable to do so. Since they saw I was very upset, the first manager that assisted me agreed to refund half of the 147.00 overcharge . I told him if he would refund half, why would'nt he refund the entire amount. The second manager that assisted me attempted to give me the General managers contact information so that I could call later because he was busy with a conference call. I told her, thanks, but I would wait. Finally the General manager came to the counter and told me, "I am aware of your situation, and if it was up to me I would not refund anything." They portrayed the good cop bad cop routine and sent me on my way. With that being said, do not rent from this company ever. They have bad customer service and do not care about the consumer.

Dollar Rent A Car worst rental company

The Boston Airport Dollar Rent A Car has the worst customer service. When we first arrived to Dollar Rent A Car, we were waiting in a line of about 3 people. It took us over an hour to get our car, the employees were so slow and did not care about getting their customers the cars quickly. The drop off and pick up are not differentiated and you must wait in the same line. There was a customer who was trying to drop off his car and was greeted by a rude agent. When the agent saw the customer she grumbled loud enough for everyone to hear "you brought me from the back to help 1 person?" When we dropped off the car, we arrived almost 2 hours early for our flight, which we almost missed because the agents were so slow in helping customers. We rushed to the airport- with our newborn, rushed through security, were almost the last people on the plane. We will never use Dollar Rent A Car again.

This is about Dollar rent-a-car in Orlando airport. I had been on the way to Florida with two small kids and our journey had taken 24 hours. We were exhausted. I come with my printed reservation from Cartawler, which has Dollar as an agent. The deal with them had to be voided since I had a local licens. But I was not to worry; the man could offer me the same deal, which was 710.00 US dollars plus ca200 US dollars for a GPS.
He asked me to click three times on the machine and when I saw the amounts pilling up, I asked if there was a mistake. He said no, I just upgraded you for no charge, don’t fill up your tank when you come and the amount that you see, which was by that time 2522.31 US $, was merely a deposit and you get it back when you return the car!
I saw April 5th that they had charged $2522.31 on my MC.
I really feel stupid to have fallen for this. We were too tired and I was very happy to have arrived in the US after being away for many years. I really want to put these people in their places. So far they have ignored my mail to their customer service. Can you help me please?
Best wishes

Dollar Rent A Car - fraudulent unethical toll charges

I was horrified to find I received a bill for $76 yesterday for $1 of tolls assessed to my car during the one day I was driving a Dollar rental car during my recent trip to Florida. I made every attempt to pay tolls in cash during my recent trip. However, due to Florida's all electronic system, where in areas there is only an electronic charge, and those...

Dollar Rent A Car damage claim

I advise you not to rent from the Dollar Rent A Car "London Heathrow Airport" agency. The agency is not at the airport, but, rather, in the lobby of a Sheraton Hotel away from the airport. Moreover, it is not a Dollar agency but, rather, it is a Thrifty Rent A Car agency which, as it turns out, is actually run by a company called "Scot Group Ltd".

After returning the car, this agency charged my credit card about US $500 to replace a tire they claim was damaged while I had the car. As explained below, this claim was incorrect and the evidence provided to support it was obviously false.

When I picked-up the car, the agency gave me a "Pre/Post Rental Damage Report" which had at least 16 areas of damage identified. I examined the car and attempted to identify each claimed area of damage, but, in almost every instance, the claimed damage recorded on the Report was inconsequential or non-existent. I rubbed at least one of the claimed scratches and found that it could simply be rubbed away. I did not understand why so many insignificant or illusory items of damage had been noted, but I did not see any point in disputing the presence of damage the rental company had identified.

When I returned the car, a male agency employee claimed that he had found new damage to the front left tire. The Pre-Rental Report noted damage to the front left wheel or tire, but the employee insisted that he remembered inspecting the car (at least 10 days before) and seeing damage only to the wheel. Just by looking, it was obvious the damage to the tire occured at the same time as the damage to the wheel.

The Assistant Manager of the agency e-mailed purported "before" and "after" digital photos in order to "prove" that the damage to the tire was new. However, examining the photos showed that the "before" photo was of a different wheel and tire.

Thrifty said they would charge my credit card UK pounds 298.98, which they said was the cost of a new tire, an "administrative fee of [pounds] 37.50", and a charge for refurbishing the alloy wheel (65.00 pounds) (which even Thrifty said had been damaged previously). In the end, Thrifty charged UK pounds 343.04 (about $500) over the rental for replacing one tire. (On the Internet (e.g., www.etyres.co.uk), tire prices in the UK for the type of car I had, a Ford Focus, run from 75 to 105 UK pounds.)

When I picked-up the car, I noticed 2 sets of customers engaged in heated arguments with a man behind the Thrifty counter. I could hear that the customers were challenging damage claims by the Thrifty representatives. The customers were complaining that the claimed new damage was not their fault, that they wanted documents (which the Thrifty representative was refusing to provide), that they wanted to speak with the supervisor or manager, who was not then available, and that they could not wait for the supervisor, because they had planes to catch.

When I returned the car I had the same experience. Again, the manager was "not available" and nothing could be accomplished at the agency. The Thrifty employees were surly, and their treatment of customers was uninterested and mean. It was obvious this agency was very familiar with, yet utterly indifferent to, angry customers.

Dollar Rent A Car poor everything

My brother, who is in the military was coming home for 2 weeks and due to the time his flight was coming in, noone was available to pick him up when his flight arrived. He was flying in to Albany International in Albany, NY and had made arrangements to rent a car with Dollar Rent a Car.

I spoke with the company on the morning that he was supposed to arrive, because the rental company was not in the actual airport, and I wanted to find out if they had a shuttle service to pick my brother up from the airport so that he could get his rental car. I was told yes, that he would just have to call when he arrived. His flight was delayed 2 1/2 hours, and when he arrived he called me in a panic telling me that he had called Dollar and was told that since his flight was delayed, they dropped his reservation and gave away his rental car and then the agent just hung up on him.

I then called the Dollar rental company to see what could be done to get my brother a car to get home, with him being 1 1/2 hours away from home and had been traveling all day. I was told by the agent on the phone that they only hold the reservations for 2 hours and after that time they gave the car away. He said that my brother should have notified them that his flight was delayed, to which my response was, "how was he supposed to know that you would not hold his car, and how is he expected to call when he is in flight or running through the airport trying to catch his connection?". He responded by telling me that the FAA doesn't allow planes to just fly around in the air for 2 1/2 hours, they would get fined for that, so he had plenty of time to call them and let them know. I asked again if there was anything he could do and he told me that he had no other cars available to rent out, they were out of vehicles. I then asked him if that was how this company does business? You just give away reserved cars and offer no help to people when they are stranded? He told me that that is how every car rental company in the US does business, they won't hold reservations for over 2 hours. I then asked to speak to a manager to try to get somewhere. He told me that he was the manager, so I then asked him for his name. He told me his name, Scott Havens, and then replied "do you want me to spell it out for you or can you manage it on your own?" I told him, no problem I've got it. He then said "good, call corporate with it! F**c You, and hung up on me.

So I decided to take his advise and after a little good old internet research and a couple of calls, finding out that Thrifty and Dollar are actually managed by the same company, I got in touch with the corporate office in Oklahoma. Just in case anyone needs it, it's [protected], then pick any number and someone will get you to the right person. The person I actually talked to was the Customer Service Liason to the CEO of the company who advised me to have my brother rent a car from another company and to fax her a copy of the bill personally and she would make sure a check was sent for the difference he would have to pay. She said that that was what the agent SHOULD have told my brother to begin with. We'll see how far this gets as it just happened yesterday 8/9/10.

I actually have already filed a complaint on YELP, but strangely enough, it has disappeared!

I just came off the WORST nightmare a traveler could face, and the cause was my experience with Dollar, at Albany. I rented my car in Newark, as my father was critically ill and I had to get to New York. I was told Dollar agencies were "all over" NY. I kept the car for a couple extra days, checking in to be sure it was okay. When I looked into dropping the car as close as possible, in Albany, the manager said it would be a $99 fee. I agreed, and booked my flight. I called back to ask the time the car needed to be back, and was told (this time) that the fee would be $250! I told the guy I never would have booked a flight out of Albany if I had known that, and he hung up on me. (He also refused, several times, to give me his name.) I drove to Albany on the day of my flight and this guy actually REFUSED to take the car from me! He said he needed to hear from "Corporate" for permission, even though I had already gotten it, but he wouldn't make the call. He refused to give me a lift to the airport and/or a number for a taxi, and told me to leave or he'd call police. I had to enlist the aid of the AWESOME Albany Sheriff's Department, who helped me discover that Hertz would actually take the car from me! And I wasn't even their customer! These folks at Dollar---at least in Albany---are absolutely despicable. They left me holding a car and no way out. They don't care about customers and they have no compassion for folks at all. Stay as far away from this company as is humanly possible! If you're smart, you'll use Hertz, who helped me for no gain at all except (future!) customer satisfaction. THEY are your car company!

Dollar Rent A Car ldw daily hidden fee scam

July 7, 2010.

5 day rental.
my quote was $216.00 and Dollar charged me $302.00 because of this LWD $14.99 daily fee to waive responsibility. What a scam! Alfonzo did not explain that if we would be charged a daily fee to WAIVE anything. We did decline the insurance but it was not explained that we would pay to be relived of any vehicle responsibility...isn't that what insurance is after all?
I truly feel the word waiver is misused and misleading in this context. Furthermore it was absolutely not explained by Alfonzo.

Alfonzo was to preoccupied telling us he could get us in a larger car for a little extra money. He asked us multiple times and kept asking again instead of taking the time to explain the details regarding this LDW fee.

Alfonzo also did not tell us we needed to return the car with our gas pump receipt or we would be charged a fee. I am sure this is simply another way Dollar is getting extra money from consumers who do not buy the gas from them.

My experience with Dollar is that they do not care about customer service! They are right and the customer is wrong, period. No refunds, no compromise.

Dollar Rent A Car ldw scam

I was quoted about $400 for a two week rental. After verbally denying insurance 3 or 4 times, I was asked to initial. Lo and behold, they signed me up for insurance. On the contract it was listed as LDW, or loss-damage-waiver; hidden in plain site.

In the end I was charged $340+ for this LDW, which I had declined outright. When trying to work with Dollar for a credit, they refused to budge and refund my money because I initialed the "LDW" option.

Stay away. Dollar is a bunch of scammers and thieves, no better than your average sidewalk conman. I would even say they are worse because they hide under the guise of a "legitimate" business.

I am having the same exact problem right now. I was charged an additional $200+ for this "insurance" which I told the woman a few times I did NOT want. She then said "oh you're getting a free upgrade! This is included! But I need for you to sign that you're picking up the car". Guess what. There's a charge for the stupid insurance. I am fighting this as far as I can. I've been renting cars for a good while and I have never asked for the protection because I pay a premium on my auto insurance for renters. I am BEYOND disgusted with Dollar.

A word of caution to everyone, who intends to rent Dollar/Thrifty cars in Germany. Dollar/Thrifty uses a licensee in Germany with very dubious, misleading, deceptive and fraudulent business practices. When you order the car on the Dollar or Thrifty website, you will receive the usual confirmation, which breaks down the rental cost in its subcomponents such as airport fees, VAT, road tax etc. Nothing was mentioned of a mandatory insurance premium of €20 ($28) per day. For every car I ever rented anywhere in the world, the credit card always covered the insurance premium. The AMEX Gold card specifically mentioned this coverage. It was the counter agent at the airport, who insisted on another €400.- ($560.-) insurance premium. It is highly immoral to spring this surprise on customers who just arrived on a sleepless trans-Atlantic overnight flight. This made the car the most expensive car I ever rented.
In addition, the car had no air conditioning and when I started phoning the agency on the 0700 number supplied on the rental agreement, I was constantly put on hold and transferred to other agents and found out later, why. The 0700 is not toll free number, but costs appr €1.- ($1.35) per minute, an attractive side income for the agency. Should you be in the unfortunate position to have to call the agency for help, use their German direct dial number [protected]. It will still be a long-distance call, but infinitely cheaper than the 0700 number. I spent an additional $50 in calling the agency for help, which I never got. I drove around in an oven for 3 weeks with temperatures of over 30C (85F). It later turned out that the connecting hoses for the A/C on this brand-new car were missing.

Dollar Rent A Car steals money

Dollar Rent A Car (complaint) – Daylight Robbery

Just to make it clear, we made our car rental reservation through a third party company called Booking Group (known as bookinggroup.com or economybookings.com). When troubles started Dollar blamed everything on the third party company. I'm not buying it…

Dollar robbed us 3 times:
1. According to the voucher we were holding the balance was EUR 127: "€ 127.03 is payable to Dollar on your arrival".
(Approximately $190 at that time)
Dollar charged us $250. After an 11 hours flight it was not easy to argue...what could we do?

Dollar response: "Our records indicate your reservation was booked as $250 in our system for the rental charges, which is what you were charged. Since the Euro amount was quoted to you by the third party company, and they booked the reservation in our system as $250, we must ask you pursue this matter further with the third party."

2. According to the voucher the drop-off location was Manhattan (no fee mentioned):
"Drop-off location: USA New York, Manhattan, Manhattan Downtown"
Dollar charged us with an extra $50, which was a Drop-off fee for returning the car to a different location than the original.

Dollar response: "Since our records indicate this vehicle was reserved with Dollar to return to JFK, we must conclude the third party booked with us incorrectly"

3. Dollar did not explain that the prepaid fuel plan is just an option; we understood that we have to take it.

Dollar response: "It appears you accepted prepaid fuel upon pickup. This was $34.29."

My recommendation: Don't book Dollar Rent-A-Car; Don't do business with Booking Group.

Shahar Galili (on behalf of my wife and sister-in-law)

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. THEY JUST WANT TO SUCK MONEY FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS.
I rented a car from dollar from their SF airport location and drove to my friends place who lives in a private community. I parked my car at the visitor's parking spot. But for some reason the car got towed. I informed dollar immediately about it. Next morning I went to the impound location to get the car back, the officers were nice enough to say that if dollar provided them with the necessary information, they would release the car immediately, but of course dollar refused to do so.
Something that could have done immediately took dollar 6 days to get the car back from the impound and they charged me with a bill of $1800.
I tried calling them and explain my situation and also offered to pay one night impound fees with I agree is reasonable. They talked over me and kept on saying we can't do anything about it.
I am going to dispute all the charges and fight until I can. There is no way I am paying a penny to them.
Seriously dollar, because of your lack of efficiency and lack of professionalism you will charge your customers. Any way dollar does not have a good reputation. I don't know how this company still exists!

I rented a van from LAX and verbally declined the additional insurance 3 times. My husband also declined the coverage verbally. When the paperwork was put in front of us I was told to initial beside the D to decline the additional insurance coverage. When I got home I realized I was charged for the coverage. When I complained they said I didn't initial beside the tiny decline, so the charge stands. I thought that initialling beside the D and verbally saying decline 4 times meant decline. You would think when I said the the agent that I did not want the coverage and I initialled stating I did not want the coverage that it meant I did not want the coverage. I am a auto insurance broker and I know I have the coverage on my auto insurance so there is no way I would have accepted the additional coverage. I will not stop until I get my money back. I am so tired of big companies taking advantage of the public. If they rip us all off for $300 each, I know why there is so little money with the common people.

Dollar Rent A Car - tricked into extra charges

When I arrived at the Dollar desk to collect the car I was in a hurry as my wife had been taken ill on the plane and I wanted to get away as quickly as possible to get to the hospital. Dollar Rent A Car hostile employees

Avoid Dollar Rental Car at Phoenix Skyharbor airport. If you like long lines and employees who are hostile to customers, this is your company. I tried this location several times in February and each time, the employees hid in a back room when customer lines formed, leaving a relatively new employee.

When one of the Dollar employees made a woman customer cry, I wrote a letter to the Dollar corporate office. The letter was answered with a form letter and nonsense discount coupons. If you fly into Phoenix Skyharbor, use one of the other companies, it may cost a little more, but its worth it to avoid the Dollar employees.

Dollar Rent A Car what was supposed to be a weekend getaway turned into a stressful nightmare

I reserved a rental car online for my vacation using my debit/check card, thoroughly reading the terms and conditions before hand and understood the hold that would be placed on my card. When I arrived at Dollar Rent A Car in Las Vegas (from Seattle) I was told that they could not accept my debit/check card because it had already been run through them and denied once earlier that day, even though I had just arrived and had not used my card. After a long wait they finally manually put me into their system since they could not accept me electronically. When I arrived to return the car, on time, I was told that I had not rented a car from them and they could not find me in their system (probably because I was manually entered). After some hassle I was finally given a slip to take to the front counter. On the slip the wrong return time had been written down. They showed the time that it now was, not the time I arrived, making me a half hour late on my rental. When I addressed this at the counter (15 minutes later) I was told not to worry about it and that there would be no additional charges. Because I was manually entered they could not give me an electronic receipt and had to manually make a receipt. They obviously did not know how to do this, as I watched 4 men wander aimlessly around their "office" for 15 minutes trying to find the paperwork to do this, and whisper to each other (obviously in confusion), as I missed check-in time for my flight. I made sure they took my card and ran the charge through to release my funds, per the terms and conditions I agreed to online at reservation. By the time they processed everything and were ready to send me on my way, it was too late to make my flight. When I complained about the amount of time this had just taken, and that I had missed my flight and inquired about when the hold on my funds would be released since they now have the car back, so that I could make arrangements to take the next flight back home, the gentleman was very polite and said that typically the hold is released at midnight, but he would try to expedite the hold for me so that I could make my arrangements and get to work the next morning. When I went to purchase another ticket for my flight out, the funds were still on hold. The funds were still on hold the following day and when I called customer service they explained to me that they could not release the funds. In addition they still showed my account still open and the car not having been returned yet. After explaining to 3 different associates that I no longer was in LasVegas any longer, but calling from my work in Seattle and that I in fact did return the car, payment should have been processed the night before and that I was assured that my funds would be released by midnight at the latest, if not sooner - they finally were able to close my account. I was over charged for the rental for an additional day because of their mistakes, missed a flight and to top it all of, over the next 4 to 5 business days my funds were STILL on hold. My account is now overdrawn because of the many charges I received by these mistakes. What was supposed to be a weekend getaway turned into a stressful nightmare of financial issues due to their mistake of holding my funds for a total of 7 days, instead of 3 as agreed to. I want my money back. And my dignity.

Dollar Rent A Car adding charges

I chose to reserve a rental with Dollar to save money and time as I was told the service would be great and the price I was quoted when I made the reservation was well within my budget. I arrived in Las Vegas at the rental terminal about 7:15 pm on Tuesday, October 13th. After waiting in line for over 45 minutes, I was greeted by a representative.

After answering all the questions and providing the necessary information (Drivers Licence and Credit Card) I told her specifically that I did not want any additional insurance as I am fully covered by my personal insurance company. I even declined the gas fee as I would return the vehicle with a full tank. (I was not planning on putting many miles on the car and as it turned out, I put about 35 miles on it total for the 4 day rental.)

I was asked to sign the automated kiosk for the contract. I specifically asked that no additional insurance be added and was assured that it wasn't. By this time, an hour had transpired and I was ready to move on to my hotel. I thanked the rep for her service, signed the agreement and got my car.

When I returned the car on Saturday, October 17th at 7:15 am, I was shocked to see that an additional charge of $87.96 for insurance was added to my bill. I verbally declined this several times with the rep when I rented the car as again, I wasn't planing on using the car during my trip with the exception of going to my hotel and back to the airport. Somehow she added it to the agreement when I signed it electronically. Had I known this, I would've taken a taxi and saved myself about $220.00!

This is deplorable business practice and, after doing some research regarding complaints about Dollar, this seems to be general practice for them. When I brought this to the attention of the rep that I checked out with, she basically said I was out of luck since I signed the agreement electronically. I was paying cash for the vehicle and now I am out the extra $87.96. I asked for the manager and she said no one here could help me.

Good for Dollar, they made an additional $87 dollars on me. But the bad thing is that they lost a customer for life. I go to Las Vegas several times a year and am an Emerald Card holder for National. I thought I would give Dollar a chance but they really blew it. I hope the $87 dollars comes in handy as opposed to the almost $600 they could have made annually from me in the future.

So I guess you settle for poor service in your life. That must really suck. The issue is with the service and the fact that the vendor (Dollar) did not listen to the customer. I wonder how many people this has happened to. You are right, $87 dollars is not much but it adds up for their bottom line. And there are people out there that are not as fortunate as you and I that can miss the $87.00 with no issues.

Also, please read a little closer. I said $600 and not $6000 per year. Again, not a lot but it adds up. And I never complained about the wait in line as you put it. I just stated a fact. I expect to wait in line in Vegas. It’s par for the course. But I also expect good service when I do get to the front of the line and that didn’t happen here.

My point about the low mileage was this – I would have gladly taken the insurance with all the bells and whistles if I planned to actually drive the car all over town for sightseeing. I didn’t plan that and therefore didn’t want to pay for the extras. That was my plan going in. I am not really a taxi person, so forgive me if that offends you.

A final thought… Learn to type, learn to spell, learn to read, quit abbreviating everything like you are a twelve year old texting your “BFF” and speak up for yourself when you get bad service. You may be surprised at what you get out of it. Dollar generously reimbursed me with a major apology. I am happy now. But if I took your advice, I’d be out $87 dollars and they would have lost a customer.

Have a nice day.

Dollar Rent A Car dodgy charging

Reserved car online with Dollar Rent a Car, Added all relevant information and ticked all boxes. Quoted $ 416 Got to Sanford Airport on 25th Sept told that they would need to add insurance to the quote, the quote came out at $ 1300 dollars. nearly $ 900 for two weeks insurance?

My advice dont use Dollar people are complaining about their tactics all over the sites, see link to trip advisor below for someone else that had the same problem as us. Rip off. and they use pressure tactics to get you to upgrade. Snotty staff with no customer care.

Try Alamo, great service no pressure for car for $ 635 a mid size well maintained car.

My 70 year old fathers flight was canceled out of JAX due to TS Beryl and had originally planned to return his rental car to JAX, but wants to drive to meet his connecting flight in ATL. In order to drop off the rental in ATL, he would have to pay a $163 drop fee. A drop fee was disclosed, but no amount or limits were given. I went online to try and change the drop off location, and the site would not let me. However if I were to drop off the car, and re-rent it in less than 5 minutes, it would cost $12. He called to talk to someone who hung up on him instead of transferring, but that happens occasionally. He called back and was told that there was nothing that could be done to waive the drop fee. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor regarding the fact that there was a Tropical Storm hitting, if anything could be done. A supervisor was not available but I was asked for my number and one would call me back. An hour later, I called to talk to a supervisor and once one got on the line I was told that the system has a contract listed and his contract includes a drop fee. I explained the circumstances and was told it could not be waived. I explained how I could rent a car for $12, she told me that is what we would have to do. In the middle of a tropical storm, drive to the airport, where no one is currently staffed, to drop off a car, re-rent it to save $150! I will tell everyone I can about this ridiculous company and will be sure to never rent from them again!

I left a bag/piece of luggage in the shuttle bus when I picked up my car after parking for the week. I called them a couple days later, and they shipped it to me through UPS. I paid for it, and it showed up on my Visa bill. However, 3 weeks later I still haven't received it. They are giving me the run around, and will not give me the tracking number or the number for UPS. I have been talking to them about this for the last two days, and apparently only one girl has this information, but they can't get a hold of her. The manager can't even help me. I am very frustrated, and I have spent a lot of money on long distance calls trying to get this resolved.

I rented a sat nav from Dollar rent a car at Orlando Florida for $11.99 per day. After four days the unit failed because of a faulty power cord. I telephoned the Orlando site a the Orlando International Airport so that I would not be charged for the remaining 10 days rental.

When the sat nav was returned there was a long discussion with the clerk who eventually said that I would not be charged. He folded the paperwork and returned it to me and having accepted his statement that I would not be charged returned to my home in the United Kingdom.

The subsequent day I checked my credit card on line and dicovered that I had been charged not only for the 10days but also $149 for a replacement power cord which could be bought retail for $20. I want a return of my $266.9 which was taken from my credit card without my permission and an acknowledgement from Dollar that it is not company policy for staff to lie to customers.

It was obvious that the clerk lied to me because he knew that in two hours I woulod be on a flight back to the United Kingdom.

My name is Pablo A. Ospina. Last Thursday afternoon I spoke on the phone with one of your agents regarding a situation that occured to me and my wife, when I went to pick up the car.

According to the reservation cited above, I was supposed to pick up a car on the morning of April 6, 2017 at 2AM at the Dollar counter at Chicago O´Hare. My wife and I arrived at 4AM. I am handicapped, from a defect from birth with my left arm that runs only to the elbow. With my right arm, I have driven cars with automatic shift for the last 20 years, not only in my home country, Colombia, but all over the United States (renting cars from almost all the major companies).

When the lady atendant looked at me, she was worried because she had never rented a car to a one-arm man.She wondered what a policeman would say if I got stopped. I told her that I had a drivers license, identification and insurance, and if I commited a transit violation, I would have to pay the fine. She went on rambling in her worries because she didn´t know what the laws of the State of Illinois were, regarding if I was allowed to drive, because for her the most important thing was to keep her position.

She said that she could not authorize the rental until the manager arrived, and that he would decide. The manager arrived at 5:30AM. He asked me 2 or 3 questions with respect to my driving. Two minutes later, he instructed the lady atendant to rent me the car. Even though the lady atendant was instructed to rent me the car, she continued to hassle me. She said that the Illinois taxes and the fuel tax were not included in the voucher, even though the voucher indicated total coverage. She said the voucher was in spanish, and that she didn´t understand the language. She found the reservation in her computer, and I´m sure it was in English.

Finally, she asked me for the address where I was going to stay in the Chicago area, When I gave the address of the friends I was visiting in a Chicago suburb, she concluded that we were citizens of the United States and residents of the State of Illinois, and therefore, that voucher was invalid. We showed her our Colombian passport, our Colombian Drivers License, and our local Colombian identification. She insisted on her reasoning, called the manager, and at that point, that manager, decided that he could not allow the rental.

With this situation I had no choice but to go a block away, with all our bags, and less than 10 minutes later we were sitting in an Avis car.

In this case, what I conclude is that I was dealing with two absolutely incompetent employees, who decided to discriminate against me, due to my handicap. The manager wrote a note saying that due to local policies, they could not allow the rental, saying that you should refund me. He attached his business card. I am scaning those and attaching them to this mail.

I will be writing a complaint to Dollar rent-a-car, explaining my case of absolute discrimination. I require a full refund for what I paid.

Please respond promptly.
With kind regards,

Pablo A. Ospina

Walked up at Love Field in Dallas and all of the rental car companies were out of cars due to recent hail damage. Dollar agent said he had cars and when I asked him rate with insurances, I received a quote for 135.00 per day. As I planned on keeping the car only two days, I agreed. Agent hurried me through signatures to get me on my way.
I returned the car a litle more than 1 day later ( 28 hours) and got a shock at my invoice for $443.00. I called the customer service both local and corporate. The 135 was the base rate before insurances and I was charged 26/ hour for the 4 hours past one day.
Dollar had no concern and basically told me tough luck. I had signed the agreement and given them license to steal, which they readily did.
Lesson learned on walk up rentals and definitely learned about lesser car rental companies (Dollar).

I reserved a full size car online via expedia a couple of weeks before our vacation and when we arrive our reservation was canceled. THey found us a car and the car given to us broke down 4 days into our vacation of 8 days. They told us at 5:00pm that we would have another car in 3 hours and the other car was delivered at 4:00 am! THe other car was an Econo line that is used as a shuttle from the airport to the dollar office, and had no seat belts! On top of that we were charged more than double what was quoted on our expedia reservation! Horrible rental car company!

I reserved and prepaid a full size 4 WD to be picked up at Las Vegas airport after a very long plane trip from Europe. When we got to the airport we were charged a 400 dollar drop off fee without being told a word of what was about to happen.

Then someone brought an smaller car without saying a word hoping we would not notice (probably thinking we are not smart enough to notice).

Since that is not the car we had paid for and we could not fit our stuff there we said so to the person there. He just simply said too bad, that is what we got, leave it or take it.

At that point I had two very cranky children on the floor of a garage after a 25 hour non sleeping trip from Europe, but sure, that is also my problem.

I went to the person who had charged me the 400 dollar fee without "remembering" they did not have my car and she says, too bad, it's your problem, that's what we have. After I complained and complained they said; "go to the terminal and talk to the manager".

I found the manager and try to explain the situation, only to be interrupted first thing saying she does not want to know anything about my long trip or my family situation. I feel like telling her to forget about me, but since I have no car, I just have to put up with all this REALLY nasty people, since maybe smiling I would get a car . She says that maybe in some hours someone will bring back a car, but they don't know.

At that point someone comes to her to ask if they should tell all the people standing in line that they have no cars, or should they just tell them one by one. She chooses one by one, I guess since it would be quieter.

By now I just want a car, anything 4 wheeled where I can fit my luggage, as it looks like we could spend the night at the airport.

Finally she offers me a damaged car, which I take. The car is over 40, 000 miles, has a very very damaged roof, is dirty inside, and tires have almost no patter that's how wear out they are.

I have rented with DOLLAR for my last 4 American one month vacation, never having a problem. But that was it. The fact that they had no car was bad enough, but trying to fool us, treating us so rudely, just made it. Bye DOLLAR, I just hope many people find out and take business to more considerate companies, which is what I will do.

My husband and I went on vacation to orlando and we parked our car in the gargage where we thought it would be safe. Well GUESS WHAT our car came back damaged and the first thing they ask us is " do you ask for your car to be inspected" ? Why should we do that. We put our trust in them and we get the bad end of the stick. We went into the office to see what WE can do to reslove this issue But all we got was ATTIUDE, RUDENESS and walked away from when we were talking. We have since called a couple of people to see what they can do to help and it seems like no one wants to help or should i say get there hands dirty. We are STILL getting the run around...Call this person, Speak to that person...OR there's nothing we can do about that. Does anyone know what we can do or where we can call? I think DOLLAR RENATL CARE should be responsible for this. had we brought back a car that we rented from them damaged then we would be responsible right! So i think they should be responsible for my damage. So please if anyone has information please share that with me. Thanks so much for your help.

On February 16, 2017, Dollar Rent A Car at the Fort Myers, FL Airport (RSW) refused to honor my confirmed reservation for a vehicle. [After booking my reservation through the BookingGroup, I received a written confirmation and a reservation number from both Dollar Rent A Car and the BookingGroup.] When I arrived to pick up my vehicle, I provided my confirmation notices and the Dollar representative refused to honor my confirmed reservation. She charged me $490.55 instead of the $220.01 confirmed rental cost that was supposed to be payable upon my arrival. I needed a vehicle to get to my vacation on Sanibel Island so I had no choice in the matter. In addition to very poor customer service, Dollar Rent A Car appears to now be engaging in 'Bait & Switch' business practice. BUYER BEWARE!

My (car trawler) Reservation Number: US260393560
My Agent Ref: R4905444

This is a complaint regarding the Dollar customer service on this occasion.

I booked a car on-line for one day during my very busy business trip schedule...
So, I paid the day's rent online which was sweet...
Upon arrival at Houston airport rental centre, the young sales clark/front person wasn't very helpful other than selling on full fuel tank and 24h toll pass. After a very long flight I wasn't in much mood for discussions (as many people wouldn't)... But than, full tank of petrol for one day hire? Really? It was my first time in Houston, and sales clark should be aware of that from reservation info and passport details.. he didn't bother showing me the (approximate) map where the tollroads are in Houston. This was a business trip, and I was travelling on set routes.. If I was made aware (just a tad) of the tollroads layout, I would've seen that there was no chance I'd be getting even close to them...
But ok, kudos to the sales clark doing sales job, where he should be doing customer support job...

The same day I got informewd that one of my meetings will be longer than expected, so I rang the Dollar service desk to inform peple there that I will be returning the car 3-4 hours later than anticipated. I was expecting to pay one extra day, as that is a normal practice...
The person on the other side of the phone was extremely unhelpful, and in a great hurry to finish the conversation...
When I returned the car and got the bill I understand why.
I was billed $184.84 for one day+one extra day (of which i used 3 hours)...
What the..
This was the worst car rental service I have ever received. The front personel was duing 'oversales' job not the customer support, the customer support phone line personel was doing the same, and at the end I was served oversized bill...
I warmly recomend all travellers to avoid this car rental place completely, or at least be very vigilant when accepting and returning the car...
For a visitor from another continent, I left USA with a very bitter taste in my mouth and a very bad experience... Certainly, that is not how the things should be done...
Best Regards,
Zvonko Lazic.

Dollar Rent A Car bait and switch fraud

Beware! Never, ever book your car rental with Dollar Car Rental! They scammed me into paying more for my rental by telling me the vehicle I reserve was NOT available (as we were driving out of the lot, we saw a few vehicles that we originally reserved!) and offered us another - The agent claimed that the daily rate on the alternate vehicle was a lot cheaper than what we originally reserved, and said I would be getting a very good deal. So we took it. However, they didn't make it verbally clear that the cheaper rate was actually a daily upgrade fee IN ADDITION to what I already had paid in advance.

When I returned the vehicle 5 days later, I ended up paying an additional $$$$ more than I should have! For an error on their part for not giving me what I reserved in the first place! DOLLAR SUCKS! I'm never doing business with them again and you shouldn't either if you don't want to incur any unnecessary add'l charges!

Yeah never do business with them again. I used to work for them and the problem is that everyone is so confident that you will rent from them again. Even the managers have told me ' They will be back, we always have the cheapest rates, Trust Me" and sure enough some customers actually came back... You Get what you Pay for.

Dollar Rent A Car switch & bait?

Beware! Never, ever book your car rental with “Dollar Car Rental”! They scammed me into paying more for my rental by telling me the vehicle I reserved was not available (as we were driving out of the lot, we saw a few cars that we originally reserved on the lot!) and offered us another vehicle – claiming it was cheaper per day than what we reserved. HOWEVER, they neglected to inform us that the cheaper rate was "IN ADDITION TO" what I had already paid in advance through a package deal.

I ended up paying an additional $$$ more than I should have, and Dollar claimed it was a daily "upgrade fee" for my rental. For an inferior car? for a vehicle that I didn't want? Called customer service and explained the situation and they didn't hear anything I said...just kept drowning me with "it might have been a misunderstanding of the charges on both parties", and didn't try to compensate me for anything! DOLLAR SUCKS! I’m never doing business with them again and you shouldn’t either!

As a Ex-DTAG employee I agree, they will try to charge you everything. One of the most common scams is when at the Rental Process they say they will charge if you return it 24 hr earlier or later, that is wrong. If you return it One Minute after the time and date when you are planning to return it they will charge money. Thats how the company made over $100 million dollars in profit in 2010

WOW tcaam. Way to support. Actually, it doesn't need to be in the fine print. It's the law. It's in the law. It's written in vehicle code.

If you did not get the ticket (from the price, it sounds like 1 ticket, harsh I know) all you need to do is contact them, ask for a copy of your contract/final bill and if the car that got the ticket is the same one that you were in on those days then you got the ticket.

Dollar Rent A Car undue &damage& charge

It is unlikely that I will rent from Dollar Rent A Car again. First the rental was a bit more than I had anticipated after getting a quote online the clincher though was when they charged me for a tire that went flat and turned out to be unrepairable.

Their position was that since I had not purchased their insurance that I was liable. My position was that since the "damage" was through no fault of my own, but due to a road hazard, that a company the size of Dollar would allow for such incidents just for GOOD WILL. They didn't/don't agree so they have lost my good will and I offer my experience to anyone else considering a car rental.

Dollar Rent A Car horrible customer treatment

I rented a car in Costa Rica for 11 days from Dec 25, 2007 to Jan 05, 2008. When I returned the car to the San Jose airport location, the Dollar representative coerced me into paying $20 for cleaning of the car (which was only a little dusty), and tried to overcharge me by $200. His behavior was appalling. Since I was so angered by his attempts at cheating me, he ended up overcharging me by only $80, which I have submitted to Dollar for a refund. This is a horrible way to treat Dollar's customers, and leaves a very bad feeling upon leaving Costa Rica after a vacation.

i rented a vehicle from dollar from May 20-27, 2009. The air did not work on the car, the GPS broke and i was told when i called the location a couple of months before hand that they would let me use my CDW insurance thru my credit card if i could show proof. which i did but they refused to look at it and made me sign up for at their location. THey would not take me back to the airport, i was 10 miles from no where. THis is one of the worst car rental companies in the entire country. When i called to complain back in the US to the corporate office of Dollar, i talked with a very rude man, who could care less. I told them i agreed i owed some money for the car, but not the $432 they were charging me. So far i am into my third month complaining and no one will listen to me. DOLLAR RENTAL CAR COASTA RICA IS A RIP OFF!

Although it seems to vary with the counter person, my frustration is that the price on the internet, and the price they want to charge is entirely differently... then they add an Airport fee even if you do not have airport service.

Every time I have rented from Dollar it has been a hassle. I will pay more, and rent from National or other companies... in the future.
