Dollar General store cleanliness and safety

I frequently go to the Dollar General located in Wakefield, VA. Recently I went in and the store was a complete mess. It is always dirty and the aisles are so cramped you can barely walk through. In this last visit I was trying to walk down the chip aisle and there were racks of clothes blocking all the chips and another cart in middle of aisle. While trying to move merchandise to get bags of chips I cut my ankle on the cart in middle of aisle. Something needs to be done about the cleanliness and safety of this store. I took pictures if the aisles on my phone for proof.

That looks like the stuff that is usually found on the sidewalk. My guess would be either it was raining and it couldn't be outside, it was early and not out yet or late and already brought in. These stores are small and the sidewalk is used as space for displays. There is usually no room in the back to hold these which is why they are on the sidewalk. Every store does this. I'm sure if you would have asked they would have moved it for you.

Dollar General restroom

My elderly mother and I were shopping she needed to use the restroom due to health issues. We asked the store attend if she could let her use the bathroom we were told there was no access to the women's room she would have to use the man's room so we said okay to that and went to use the restroom. But that door was locked too. Meaning that they have no keys to either bathroom unfortunately my mother had a accident and was not able to make it to another restroom.

Dollar General coca cola

I purchased Coca Cola products on 9/27/18 at the Dollar General located at 4406 S Raul Longoria Rd, Edinburg TX. I tried to purchase flavored Fanta (orange) combined with Coke Zero and a Sprite in 2 liter bottles. The paper sign on the shelf said "Coke, Sprite, and assorted varieties $3 for 3". There was also a sticker ON the shelf almost touching the brands regular price that said "$3 for 3". The cashier told me I couldn't get the price reflected on the sign and stickers, and the acting asst manager also said I could not. Dollar General this is FRAUD. This is the 4-5 time, on different dates, different sales that your company does this. I am SO close to contacting the BBB! You are misleading customers with your wording on your signs, and constantly, CONSTANTLY changing rules whenever you feel like it, to benefit your company financially. THIS IS blatant FRAUD. This is a legal matter that your company needs to STOP practicing. The same exact thing has happened to me atleast 10 times with your digital coupons. There is never stocked merchandise on the shelves, or the cashiers just say, "if coupons dont work, I cant give you the item at the sale price", even if the item matches the coupon EXACTLY.! All we need to do as customers is contact our local news channel. YOU ALL ARE RIPPING thousands of people off daily! NOT cool DG...NOT cool!

I understand your position but if the store caught fire, a fire truck couldn't get in there to help evacuate the other customers safely. I'm sure there was handicapped parking spaces you could've used instead of the fire lane.

Dollar General store closing before posted time

Dollar General store #1152 in Newburgh, Indiana.
Store hours posted on building state the store closes at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday. I live directly across the street in Meadowood Apartments. I needed to purchase O.T.C. medication for my infant grandson and arrived at store at exactly 9:43 p.m. only to find the doors LOCKED. There was no explanation for why the store was closed, and I clearly observed at least one employee inside. All lights were on including exterior sign and parking lot lights. I experienced similar issues with this store previously. However the store now has a different manager. I frequent this store because of it's convenience. But convenience should include knowing the employees will not CLOSE THE STORE BEFORE POSTED TIME..Especially when there was such an urgent need to purchase an item for a sick child.

Dollar General pork cracklins

I have shopped at this store before and before I have also gotten outdated food items on separate occasions... Beef jerky and canned nuts to be exact. Today I purchased the pork crackelins and when I ate one, I noticed how stale it tasted. I looked at the package and it expired on September 8, 2018. I am a customer expecting to receive quality food products. I don't feel that I have to look at the date each time I purchase something from this well-known store chain. The staff should be on their Ps and Qs when placing and removing items on and from the shelf. Furthermore, if this cannot be carried out properly then some sort of training or disciplinary action needs to be put into place! The first couple of times I have let it slide, but this is just too much to be happening at the same store so often. I am very upset behind this and would like to be compensated in some manner. Thank you!

Dollar General rude employees

I shop at the store in laurel hill florida all the time because it is 30 min to the closest store other than that one. The manager of the store and all of the employees are rude except Melissa Henderson. This has went on for almost a year now and something needs to be done about it. When you walk in they never say hi, they don't ask if you need help as a matter of fact the girl told me one night that she was just to busy putting stuff away to stop and take my return. The manager himself does not ever say thank you and he walks around behind you as if your trying to steal something. He has been so rude to me that I've left the store in tears before. I have been driving 30 minutes out of my way just so I don't have to go in that store and deal with those rude employees!

Dollar General Cooperate Office
Goodlettsville, TN

To Whom it may concern,

On Sept 29 around 5:30 PM my husband & I entered THE DOLLAR GENERAL store on FM 725 (110 Enchantment Ln, New Braunfels, TX 78130), to purchase around 8 or 9 items. As we were standing in line my husband overheard an elderly women asking the male cashier why he was being rude to her, my husband asked him not to be so rude. The cashier became enraged & told us to put down our items & leave the store. As we did the male cashier came around the counter & followed my husband, who is 69 years old, yelling & screaming.

While this was going on, a customer verbally assaulted me by calling me a thief...to whom it may concern, we were told by your employee to put down our groceries because my husband stood up for an unhappy employee berating a poor elderly women. I placed 2 dollars for “one bit o honey” that I ate while in line in front of your cashier! While all of this is taking place your employee is yelling at my husband in the parking lot and has a phone in his face recording. Now we are over 65, law abiding American citizens.

1. Your employee angry over being asked to be kind, first verbally assaults, then asks us to drop the our groceries & leave his store, and finally proceeds to detain us by standing behind our vehicle while putting his phone in my husband’s face while recording.

2. He verbally assaults then intimidates & creates a hostile & dangerous environment then last of all tries to detain us physically. Please look at your tapes & help that misguide young man. We are seniors, and I can tell you that at our age that was the most frightening experience of our lives.

Please advise.

Sincerely,

Dollar General unethical behavior towards customer

Dollar General store #01940. September 29, 2018
903 N. University Ave. 9:57 PM
Lafayette, LA [protected] reference number [protected]
[protected]

I arrived at the store about 9:05PM and the lady at the register was polite. I proceeded to go look at all the clearance boxes/bins full of makeup and hair items. Fast forward to 9:50 PM and the manager walks around store hollering, "Closing Soon"... I am on the last isle by the nails, makeup, and deodorant clearly you can tell I am about to finish and check out. No sooner than later the manager is back, now telling me 5min until close, you need to check out now. I advised the manager that I do not own my own transportation to just come back when I need, I am almost done .
Now I know that the store closes at 10 and I am trying to respect that by finishing my shopping. My sister was a manager at one of the dollar generals and it is not policy to kick your customers out at 10. Yet, you also do not give a customer all night to shop, you give them enough time to finish up and checkout..
This manAger told me it was time to close, and I need to come checkout now because I am not going to be the cause of his lights going out in the store. The manager then told the other worker they are not sweeping parking lot tonight being they are, " to tired girl". The morning shift will do it again anyhow and laughed.
I know that your lights in your store does not have an automatic timer to turn off at 10:15PM as this man stated. I hAve been managing food and beverage for years and I did spend 2 years in retail, I have never heard of such a thing.
I did ask the man can I please take a quick glance at the foot products being I need to get the dry skin off my feet and off my heals ..The response I was given, I believe I told you one time to put down any merchandise and check out before my lights turn off with you in my store.
So yes, I reluctantly went strAight to the register to check out and leave.
As I was walking out the door, the manager said to the cashier, " finally, the act like they ain't have no home to go to... hmmm I don't know about them but I'm tired, and I'm going home."

I don't know how you train your managers, but I was very offended by this man. I also do have a home, but no vehicle... I was not able to get items that I Intended to purchase and honestly I love your store but I don't want to spend another dollar with your company if this is the way we are treated... also, I had a coupon too use but ohh there was no time for all that tonight. I'm sorry but money does not grow on trees for me.
I would like a response please on what was done in this matter..

Its not the employees fault. They're probably only doing what's asked of them by the manager or by corporate. Should shop earlier in the day.

It wasn't rude to ask you to proceed to the check out with 5 minutes before closing. These are people who have lives and homes and families to go home to. Your lack of transportation is not their concern and doesn't mean you can stay there until you are finished your shopping. Many stores have things like lighting and safes on a timer and by you deciding to go at your own pace, you could be putting the store's takings in jeopardy. Your sister working x or y place doesn't mean things operate the same in each location. Have some respect for the employees and check out when asked to do so. You had plenty of time to wander through the store and check out the aisle for your dry heels. If that had been a priority, you should have checked there first. You were there for 50 minutes before you were asked to approach the check out with your purchases. Surely that is more than enough time to browse the aisles.

Dollar General discrimination and prejudice

My name is Coleen Poler. My son Mark VanZile, Jr. was at store number S09959 located in Crandon, WI, and asked the attending cashier about getting a job. The manager Katherine, told the attending cashier that she will not be hiring anymore Poler's or Indians.

This incident happened on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at approximately 2:00 p.m.

The attending cashier is my niece, Cecelia Poler.

Desirable resolution would be termination of the store manager-Katherine.

Dollar General employee

I was in Dollar General Store earlier today with my husband, and we asked two young lady's a question and they have the most rude attitude I've ever seen, I believe their name's are Olive and The other lady was Shena I think that's their name, I've been to this store since it's been open and by far this has top the cake of my many year's shopping here the other times my husband and I shop all you do is see these young lady's on their phone playing on that Facebook and gossiping and not doing anything, these young generation I tell you really needs to get their act together, so I went and found a young gentleman and he was more than happy to help us, we need more generation like this young fella I didn't even get his name but I do remember he was tall and had a tall hair cut, but I do want to say Thank You and keep doing what your doing and God will Bless you but as for the other two young lady's, y'all need to start respecting customer because back in my younger years you would lose your job for the attitude you two had because we are what's keeping y'all in business, if y'all didn't have customer there wouldn't be a business... Dollar General digital coupons

I frequent the Dollar General Store at the corner of WW White and Paula Dr in San Antonio, TX. There is a younger male manager there that in my opinion is does not provide good customer service at all. Things that are run out don't get ordered and he does not take any initiative whatsoever. His answer is we only have what's on the floor or other excuses to not provide half way decent customer service. I frequent that store because of the convenience and my busy schedule. However, I think with this recent experience I will not return. I am very familiar with the way the digital coupons work and how to add them. The system was not registering correctly and instead of seeing with all the proof that I did have qualifying items. He asked me if I wanted the items or not. Which, after thinking about it, I said no and walked out. That will probably be the last time I walk in that store.

Dollar General a disrespectful employee

Me and my mother were shopping at Dollar General, and there was an offer. The deal didn't go as she wanted and so she canceled it. The employee got mad and started to throw the detergent and threw my mother the coupons she was using. She started to swear and started to mumble things. She started saying "Only because of two stupid coupons..." She said "[censored] you" to my mom and called her stupid. My mother told her she was going to call customer service and she said "Go ahead, I don't care." I was going to shop there as well, but her attitude made me change my mind. The manager was right there and didn't do anything at all, in fact she took the employee's side and told us we were wrong, but in reality they were because that's not how you treat customers.

Dollar General damaged goods / I bought cheddar cheese

I have a complaint I bought three containers of Pringles two out of three were okay. It's only been 2 days since I bought the product's. I'm upset because I went to go open them and they were already damaged prior to me buying them. I almost got really sick if I didn't catch the smell of it as soon as I open the container. The smell of it was unbearable. And it makes me question about the rest of the food products that they are selling on the shelves. I used to be a manager and it makes me really upset to know that they that careless with food that can poison people and make them really sick or even worse. And they also don't have a call Bell for their customers in the front when nobody's attending the registers. Please fix this problem.

Dollar General store manager

It is 9:33pm. My husband just came in from a store that normally closes at 10pm. He ran to pick up a set number of items, 3 to be exact, paper plates, furniture polish, and batteries. Upon pulling up to the store, this "manager" was already locking up and letting shoppers in and out of the store. My husband asked if the store was closing early- she stated yes, but that if he could run in quickly she would let him in. He went in, and not 3 min after he walked in(he was looking for the paper plates) she began to hassel and pester him- saying things like " you need to hurry up", "I didnt let you in here to lolligag"-- my husband told her he'd only been there 3 min, and he'd be up soon and not to talk to him that way, that she should have better Customer Service-- she then told him " I dont care, hurry up. As he checked out, she proceeded to complain about how her feet hurt, she'd worked 72 hours this week in 5 days and how the company doesnt pay her that well, and that she'd gotten approval from her GM to close early. He then waited about 8-10 min in line-- after being haggled about his 3 min shopping experience. She continued to turn customers away (even as thete were still other customers in the store shopping) so as he checked out he inquired to whether the stores hours were changing. She told him "we're getting out of here tonight". All in all, just very rude and ridiculous experience. I'd watch her closely.

Dollar General I was denied service

My kids and I go barefoot for religious reasons. tonight my kids and I entered the Dollar General in Carolina Beach North Carolina the employee Jay told us that we had to have shoes on . all I wanted to do was get a key to the bathroom and was almost denied that. if you look up federal and state laws on going Barefoot those laws protect me not your "policy".
I was humiliated in front of other customers simply because of my religious beliefs and also was trying to spend money in your store. he gave us the key to the bathroom and told us that we had to leave after because we didn't have shoes on I've already called and made a complaint but normally the general manager doesn't do anything about it because it's your supposed policy please correct this because I have been in this store numerous times over numerous years and not had anybody say anything to me. I take full responsibility for my feet and if you make me wear shoes to shop in your stores and I get hurt and y'all are reliable for that however I take full responsibility for my feet and if I get hurt in your storage than I am liable. This needs to be addressed ASAP. I do not appreciate being humiliated in front of other customers and my children are not allowed to shop either because of our religious beliefs North Carolina state and federal law says that nobody including managers or customers can tell us to leave or put on shoes and if something is not done about this I will be forced to take a lawsuit out

It's not gross. I have a habit of doing it myself around home. However, having worked in the medical profession for several years, I know that it makes us more likely to cross contaminate. I always take my shoes off at the door because there's no telling what one has walked over with their shoes. However, you can't take your feet off at the door. Unless you're washing your feet at the door ( and very thoroughly) this means you're trekking germs all over your home. Children and pets play on the floor and can easily pick these up. Even someone visiting your home can walk out cross contaminated. Not to say it can't happen when wearing shows. Being that your feet have pores ( btw, as someone mentioned sweating... your feet are still sweating when you have no shoes on. So you can still make bacteria and have smelly feet my dear. We all sweat microscopic drops all day long. It's call the human cooling system.) it makes you more susceptible to picking up germs... even parasites. The feet being porous and wet (even if you can't see the moisture) is a good incubation place to grow and pass germs, just like the hands. The bottom of a shoe is not a good growing place for germs, but your feet are as they are attached to a living organism which provides the best growing habitat! So no, baby, the feet that are walking all over the ground and floor is not cleaner than someone's hands. I'm sure anyone that's walked a lot w/out shoes can see. Take a wet wipe and wipe your hands, then take one and wipe your feet and see which one makes the wipe dirtier. I can walk through a hospital w/ my shoes and come out w/ staff all over my shoes or in your case feet. Trek that all over, cross contaminating the places I walk in the hospital. Then get in my car and cross contaminate it too. Then guess what?!? When I get home, if I don't wash my shoes at the door or take them off, I will then cross contaminate my home as well possibly. The same goes w/ feet even more so as they are a better growing environment for it and other germs and bacteria to thrive. I think I'll take a chance w/ hands more than feet. I can walk through a place and come out w/out having touched a thing w/ my hands. Plus wash my hand more than my feet. Not so with feet, unless you know how to levitate to keep you feet from touching the ground or floor. Just think about all the surfaces one walks on. You might as well be willing to get down on the ground or floor and lick them if you think for one minute your feet are cleaner. If that's the case you shouldn't have dishes in your home. Just serve the food up on the floor. Or when you go to a restaurant tell em to drop the food on the floor and you'll eat it from there. I guess the person who suggested this are one of those who walks in off the street to a buffet restaurant and go straight to the food to fix their plate w/out going to wash their hands first. I'm always amazed at the number of people who do this. So because they like proper hygiene, they figure everyone else does as well. I always wash my hands before I eat or cook and during cooking if I do or touch anything in between. When I come home from being out in public the first thing I do is go straight to the restroom and wash my hands, no matter what.

My point being that both of you pointed out, there's germs everywhere. You can pick up anything from your hands to your gums from the dentist. A guy died after he cut his leg open and got an infection. So my choice of barefeet should be my choice and not have anyone tell me it's gross or to even leave a store. How do you think bacteria gets on the floor... From shoes..bam shoes are nasty, my choice. It's your choice to not wear gloves shopping because of germs, it's also your choice to sanitize your hands before during and after whatever you're doing. Just because I go Barefoot doesn't mean I lack proper hygiene, just like you washing your hands religiously doesn't make you better. Being in the medical field you would understand a compression fracture in my lower spine..well shoes hurt, when I'm barefoot my hips are in proper alignment, I walk upright and not slouched down so it alleviates most of my pain. I'm more healthier than I ever have been because I am getting exposed to germs and letting my own immune system fight them.

In the medical field you aren't taught the proper use of the body's immune system, you're taught that babies are born with a defect so you give them shots, you are taught that if you have a cold you need antibiotics, you are taught that in order not to get the flu you need a flu shot. What about getting a yeast infection, more medication, the body needs to be exposed to germs to learn how to fight them off, not everything has to have medication and not everything has to fit in to society's little bubble of what people think is acceptable. I went to the dentist and he said that he used to do work overseas and it was almost like their religion to take their shoes off before they had dental work done or walked into a house or restaurant, because shoes are dirty

I wasn't directing my post to you but to the other poster who said that they were in the medical field. And athletes foot..you only get that from wearing shoes, just like any foot fungal infection they need a moist dark place to thrive therefore shoes are the perfect place to have those. MRSA you can get from anything. Something has MRSA, touches a door knob or a cart at Walmart, you touch it and have an open wound on your hand... Now you have it. I don't eat with my feet and I don't touch carts or anything else for that matter with my feet except the ground.. And just how am I putting anyone else's health at risk by going barefoot. No worse than someone having the flu and coughing or sneezing in public and it gets on you. The things people say too try to justify the bubble of society

Someone can step in dog [censored] with their shoes and a child fall and lands in it, a plane can fall out of the sky, a tree limb while you are walking down the street can fall, you can get into a car crash, should we all get bubble wrap and wear helmets? My feet has nothing to do with your health, and no if I get hurt while no wearing shoes I can not sue. Absolutely zero cases have been won where a Barefooter got hurt and sued and won. But how many have won by wearing shoes? Look it up. Insurance companies do not care about customer dress codes, and what's the difference in wearing flip flops, a small piece of rubber as thick as a newspaper? What's that going to do? A jar can still fall on your foot, a nail can go straight through it, a piece of glass can go through it too, oh but I need something to protect my feet and pacify onlookers who don't like looking at feet but have no problem with someone wearing the thinnest shoes ever

Another point proven... etiquette.. So basically society. I don't care what society says, federal and state law says different. You don't have to ask her. I posted the law above, do your own research. Why would I spend $200 at a doctor when there's a more natural and healthy way of doing it. Your logic is ridiculous. So you stay home during cold and flu season, that's good at least I'm not putting your health at risk by being Barefoot in a different state

Its true the about the barefoot thing in NC but the DG was trying to protect themselves from possible liabilities if you had stepped on something and got hurt.

If I'm in their store and I got hurt I take all responsibility. Their insurance does not cover customers dress codes. If they force me to wear shoes and I get hurt then they are reliable

Dollar General management

I just left the Perry Hall location didn't buy a thing. Had a basket full of items to buy, and sat it down once I heard your MOD speak to another employee like she was a second class citizen. She may have been a newer employee, but that gives you no right to speak with no regard for human life! I should have known she had a careless attitude, because as she was unpacking boxes, she was on her cell phone. You allow your employees to engage in personal phone calls while on the floor merchandizing from one eisle to the next?
I overheard the employee ask for a new apron because hers didn't fit properly. The MOD said "I told you I'd get you one when I had the chance, you can just wear the one you have on!" The employee says "but this one falls down when I tie it." The MOD says "where's the apron you were given?" Associate says "I wasn't given one." The MOD had the nerve to say "you're a liar! Yes, you were given an apron and a name tag and I'll call "so and so" to prove it. You're lying!" Are we four years old?! Who speaks to a coworker like that especially if you're a key holder or manager?! Especially when they're guests in your establishment?! I was appalled. Unprofessional! I glanced at both associates and sat my items down and walked out. I will never shop at that location in the future. That MOD you currently have needs to take the Civil behavior training course again and take notes!
