Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services I was billed by discover card for $1000.00

On Novem 8, 2023, I was charged $1,000 for 2 $500 gift cards. However the dollar general never gave me a declined receipt or any other documentation they just informed that my card was declined so I left the store with nothing no documentation telling me it was declined. However when I received my credit card bill it stated that I had charged $1,500. Which immediately outraged and I called to discover and explained that I did not make a $1,000 or 2 $500 gift cards it was declined. But I stayed on the phone with Discover for quite some time and they told me it was not declined and I needed to reach back out to the Dollar General and to get documentation that it was declined. I am frustrated because they Discover told me they would be investigating but as of January 18, 2023, I reached back out to them and asked them what the status was on my $1000 dollar credit and they told me to reach back out to the Vendor because according to their records indicated that I did receive the gift cards.

Desired outcome: I would like to see $1,000 credited on my credit card

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Unauthorized transactions on my wells fargo checking account

My name is Loc Hoang.
Discover Bank made two unauthorized transactions on my WellsFargo checking account by debiting my account twice for $50,100.00.
I reported those unauthorized transactions to my bank on 1/09/2023.
My bank put a stop payment order on my account on 1/10/2023. And on the same day 1/10/2023, Discover Bank took the money out of my account without my permission.
I don't know how that happened after my WellsFargo put a stop payment order on my account.
Discover Bank has to put my money back on my WellsFargo checking account.
I expect that is done some time very soon.
If not, I may get an attorney to take care of this.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Check cashing and international deposits

Each year I receive 2 to 3 payments from international sources. Because Discover does not directly handle international deposits, this is often a problem. Recently, however, the University of Padova in Italy was never able to get the wire transfer to work, so they mailed me a paper check.

A day after depositing the check, I received a message that it was not cashed. When I called to learn more, I was told my picture of the check was not adequately clear. I was then given the options of redepositing with a new picture or cashing at Walmart. Walmart wouldn't cash it and I quickly learned that I did not have the option of redepositing. My initial contact with customer service was polite, but misguided. My second contact refused to let me talk. So I'm now stuck with an endorsed check that I don't want to send through the mail

Desired outcome: Allow options for redepositing a check if the first picture is deemed inadequate.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Stolen credit card

Internal reference number: 7294373

To whom it may concern;

This matter is of utmost importance to me. Your financial institution is in violation of discrimination, unlawful denial of a reinvestigation and blatant falsehood. Your institution refuses to accurately reinvestigate my claim because of their unfounded decision 11/2. I have provided more than sufficient evidence to prove I did not make these purchases and they refuse to review the information provided. They also refuse to provide evidence as to how they’ve made their decision. Furthermore, I want to formally complain about Stephen I. He has done absolutely nothing and he refuses so much as to return my phone calls. He is not investigating the matter professionally or accurately.

Discover CANNOT refuse to investigate a claim brought to their attention. They cannot state that they will reassert a matter and then deny looking into it further. Discover’s decision on 11/2 was inaccurate and Stephen I is blatantly lying. Discover has failed to provide any proof to support their decision. On 11/30 I was sent a letter stating that Discover would not reinvestigate my claim and that I would be held responsible for all transactions on the account ending in 2698, unless I could provide new evidence. I have provided screenshots taken on 8/12, 8/19, 8/20, 8/26 and 9/2 all showing that my account was locked and I was unable to view or approve any activity during that time. Discover continues to blankly lie in order to pad the narrative of their own story and they must be held accountable for their falsehood. I called Discover on 7/11 to report my card as missing. I spoke with a representative, at length, and I was told my old card would be locked and I would receive a new one in the mail in 4-7 business days. Discover is claiming that I reviewed activity on 8/20 and 8/25, but did not report my card as lost until 9/6. They also state that I’m required to notify them of unauthorized activity within a “timely manner” and they are stating that 9/6 is not a “timely manner”. Both of these statements are completely inaccurate and untrue. I did not review ANY activity on my account on 8/20 or 8/25 because MY ACCOUNT WAS LOCKED. Furthermore, “timely notification” is classified as 60 days. My card was stolen on 7/6 so, EVEN IF I did not report the fraud until 9/6 it would still qualify as “timely notification”, however I reported the card as stolen on 7/1, however the representative I spoke with did not take care of the issue properly because the card was never marked as missing. I called back several days later and the new representative I spoke with confirmed that the first representative did not initiate the claim correctly.

I have also included timestamps from my app at work. I work at NGPG Family Medicine and I have time stamps proving that I was at work from July 8th, 2022 to July 19th, 2022. I had an eye doctor’s appointment on 7/11; I have attached the text message confirming that appointment along with a photo giving proof that I was in Athens, GA on 7/11. This should all be more than sufficient evidence to prove that it would be impossible for me to have made the Papa John’s, Walmart or Dollar Tree purchases in Hilton Head, SC or the flip shop purchase in CA. The timestamps also prove that I was at work on 7/12 and could not have made the Transparent lab in UT purchase. I was at work on 7/18 and could not have made the Kitsch in CA purchase. I was at work on 7/19 and could not have made the Divi in UT purchase. I was at work on 7/21 and couldn’t have made the pethonesty in TX purchase or the Omlet in DE purchase. I have included several pictures of my family on vacation at Panama City Beach, FL on 7/27, 7/28 and 7/29 proving I did not make the gasoline purchase in Winder on 7/28. And I have also included my approved vacation time from work on 7/28. I’ve included a location marking and appointment notification for 7/7 at Emory Midtown proving it was impossible for me to make the gasoline purchase in Athens. And I have also included a screenshot of my Alibaba account, which has no recent purchases proving I did not make the 7/6 alibaba purchase. This is the only Alibaba account I have and if I made that purchase it would reflect in my order history, but it does not! Additionally, I have included my policy report from 7/11.

Winder police report

Case #: [protected]

Patrol officer: Nicholas Wolfe

Rebekah Williams

[protected]

Desired outcome: I have provided PLENTY of evidence indicating that my card was stolen and it was reported correctly. I should not be held liable for any unauthorized and want all charges from 7/6-8/31 resolved.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Discover checking account

I am a landlord, and I have a tenant that is an elderly self employed widow, who contracted COVID last year, and almost died, and was a result, she has been unable to work, and has been struggling financially to pay rent. She applied for rental assistance with the CHAP program in February of 2022, and her application was accepted, and funds were sent in the form of a check, for the amount of $30,600, to me, in my name, because I'm the landlord, which I then mailed to Discover, to be deposited into my checking account. The check was recieved, verified, and approved, and was deposited into my account. The check shows that it was cashed on May 13th, and the funds showed in my account balance. Shortly after, my card ended up in the hand of my son's friend, and my account was frozen as a result. I was told for 2 months that CHAP need to reverse the funds and reissue the check, which I was told could not be done because the check was cashed on May 13th, 2022. I went back and forth between CHAP and discover for 2 months before a supervisor at discover informed me that I had to file an indemnification to reclaim funds, but wasn't instructed on how to do that. CHAP had no clue what that was. I contacted the bank that CHAP used to issue the check and they wouldn't even discuss anything because I didn't have an account. I was sent in circles again for another month, and I was in the phone EVERY SINGLE DAY talking to different departments, specialists, agents, everyone I could. I then called discover on September 16th, to request the indemnification forms, so I could send them to the supervisor at the CHAP office, so that it could be forwarded to fiscal and reviewed, AS INSTRUCTED BY THE DISTRICT TREASURY, and was THEN told to upload identity documents, so I uploaded my driver's license, and proof of address, and I volunteered to also send them a check stub, and my social security card, just to be in the safe side. I sent them everything they asked for and more, NEVER MENTIONED the indemnification after, and they made a decision to not release my money and said I have to contact the institution from which the funds came from, but refuse to tell me the bank that was on the check. I've been doing this for 5 months now! And now they are alleging potential fraud, when THEY ARE WRONG! And I've done everything to prove my identity and the validity of the check and where it came from. They made an ignorant decision and now refuse to release my money to me!

Desired outcome: Release my funds

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Credit card

We've been a fierce and loyal supporter for more than 20 years. We value excellent customer service. Discover has been among the best.

Having unfettered access one's financials is essential. Instead, the Discover marketing team has decided to sell, sell, sell and ignore the end-user.

After entreaties to the company to remove a nasty popup before one can even see any transactions fell on deaf ears, we have FROZEN the card and moved on.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Discover CD

I had a CD ready to mature. I mailed every single required document to their PO Box in Salt Lake City stating that I want the account closed and all the money wired to my bank account. When I called they said they never got my documents and the legal team would call me. The post office had delivered the documents on October 17th, 2022. The CD matured on October 22, 2022. I never heard a word from Discover. Since then the account has matured and they renewed it for another two years. The documents were sent on time and were complete as required. I just want my money.

Desired outcome: I want my money

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Savings account

Opened a high savings yielding account on Sep 29 using their online forms. Deposited several thousands (more than required min) into new account. Get confirmation that money is in account on Sep 30th.

On Oct 1 I'm informed that my account has been closed due to fraudulent activity. No reasons or explanations will be given. Of course I contacted them immediately and was told account closed and that's all they can say about it. My money will be kept by them for 60 days and then I'll receive a check.

Fraudulent activity on a savings acc! They keep my money and earn interest on it for 2 months. Stealing money from me! For a savings account that I had for 48 hrs! They are the fraudulent identity in this case.

Desired outcome: Give me my money back now

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Purchase Attempt Confirmation

On October 12, 2022 I completed an online purchase which was about $2100. A short time later I received a text and an email from Discover advising that my order was declined due to confirmation being needed for the order. I applaud Discover for being proactive and trying to reduce credit card fraud. However, by declining my order, I was inconvenienced, confused on how to rectify the issue with the vendor and lost time for receiving the order. This is the second time this has happened to me this year.

Desired outcome: Instead declining the purchase, couldn't Discover place the order on hold until the order confirmation is made? If there is no response, after 12 hours, the purchase can be declined. I'd like a response from Discover

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Bank Account

I read online that Discover has a great interest rate and an incentive program that if I transfer $25,000 I can receive a $200 bonus. I set up the account and transferred the money. A few days later, I received a phone call from them saying my account is "frozen" due to suspected fraud activity. No activity at all had happened-- no transactions other than the initial transfer. They wanted me to do a "third party verification" by having me on the phone while they call my other bank and listen in while I verify myself to them and then ask them to tell Discover the money I transferred was in fact mine. I said I had never heard of such a thing in my life and I was not going to do that. Someone could be listening in on this line while I divulge everything for someone to have access to my other bank account. How could that be safe? To date, I have had 3 different telephone conversations, one with a manager, and I've spent several hours on this. They simply will not do anything unless I do their 3rd party verification. At first they told me the "fraud detected" was simply due to the large amount, which was advertised as the minimum required for a $200 incentive! Then today the representative said that was not the case, but that they are requiring this verification across all accounts due to fraud happening all over. He was a nice guy, but had no power to help me. Apparently, if I wait 60 days, my $25,000 will be automatically sent back to my other bank where it came from. Or they will send me a check, including my interest and $200 incentive (already credited to my account). We'll see if that happens. They will not trust it is my money but they'll send it back to me in the form of a check? A supervisor is supposed to call me tomorrow at 11 AM to clarify this. No one there seems to really know for sure what will happen, as both scenarios were given. My wife is so upset that I doubt she will sleep tonight. I will certainly never have anything to do with this bank ever again. They have my money and I have no recourse until they decide the time has come to return it. It seems like this should be illegal.

Desired outcome: Please take the "freeze" off of my account. Or, send me back my money immediately. Return the ACH transfer. Thank you.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Dispute Department NOT Consumer Protection Laws

I paid in advance for a non-refundable hotel room through Priceline.com. However, after arriving, there were problems with the reservation and Priceline refused to speak to the hotel and would not talk to me until it was resolved. Priceline also lied and claimed that they spoke to an employee named Lanz-FD when no such person has ever worked for the Embassy Suites hotel on Collamer Road in Syracuse, NY. Therefore, Embassy Suites cancelled reservation #[protected] and did not charge me anything, then they sold that room to someone else immediately. I submitted a computer generated receipt, from the hotel, with the general manager, Christine Penrose's signature, verifying that this reservation was cancelled, with handwritten notes by me that explained the errors to Discover because their agent said that I can't be charged for a service that I did not receive and my receipt would be proof. However, after receiving the receipt, Discover said it was a handwritten receipt and that I needed something typed on Embassy Suites letterhead. Then, Discover reversed the charges, forcing me to pay for hotel that I never received. Thus, I asked the hotel for a letter on their letterhead, which they wrote, only to have a Discover Dispute Supervisor tell me on my 4th call that my documentation that I never received this hotel room does not matter. The Discover Dispute Supervisor said that the only way that I would get a refund is if Priceline agreed to refund my money. I told her that Discover was violating Consumer Protection law. However, the Discover Dispute Supervisor said that as long as the merchant said "non-refundable" at the time of purchase, then Discover would make its customers pay.

Desired outcome: I want them to honor the Consumer protection laws: if a service is not delivered (which is my case), damaged, or not as described, then the consumer is entitled to a 100% refund. I want the $202.97 charge reversed!

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Closed account and froze assets

Discover Bank suddenly and without notification closed my checking, savings, and money market accounts freezing over $300,000 from a recent home sale. The only information provided after over 1 hour on the phone with Customer Service is that it was "a business decision" and that I may have access to the funds in those accounts "within 60 to 90 days" without recourse or other resolution. This effectively prevents me from completing another purchase with the proceeds from my home sale and denies me access to nearly all my financial reserves for living expenses (including the direct deposit paycheck the conveniently accepted on the day the accounts were closed). I have (had) been an excellent customer with no prior complaints, transaction issues, or account problems. I now have no access to any of my banking records, account information, transactions, or documents.

Desired outcome: Access to my money for living expenses and transactions.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Discover Savings Account

I opened a new savings account on 7/18/2022 and deposited $24,000. I made another deposit of $1,000 on 7/20/2022. The funds were removed IMMEDIATELY from the account of my transferring bank. However, nearly two weeks later I still have no access to my money because Discover claims they have to "verify" the funds. Both withdrawals have already posted to my account and Discover refuses to release my funds or close the account and give me back my money. Chase has already removed the money from my account and yet Discover claims it still needs to be verified. I have also incurred several late charges because I made payments to my credit card using this new account and the payments were returned. This has caused irreparable damage to my relationships with my other banks.

Desired outcome: I would like money returned to me IMMEDIATELY. I would also like Discover to provide an explanation to Chase about why my two payments were returned despite having more than enough money in my account to cover the transaction.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Fraud services

Recently, I learned that apparently a Discover credit card and bank account were opened in my name. I did manage to talk to someone about the credit card account. He claimed that since there was no record of my SSN in their system, everything was fine. This sounds a bit dubious since my name is still on some account that isn't mine but okay. Next, he transferred me to banking fraud since I seem to be a proud owner of a debit card to a banking account in my name that I didn't open. I spent the next four hours on hold and then was disconnected. I then tried customer chat. She said that I had to talk to a person since fraud is involved. I waited until late at night and tried again. This time, I just got a message claiming high call volumes and was immediately disconnected. I'm just trying to report fraud which should be important to you too and have been stalled at every turn. I'm about to call the Better Business Bureau and see if they have any suggestions about how to solve this problem. I hope you or someone can help me. Thank you

Desired outcome: I would like someone to please investigate these two accounts with my name on them

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Discover credit card

Problem: National Debt Release sent a representation letter to my Discover Card agency on September 3, 2021, stating they are now representing my account. I was not a client of National Debt and I never put the Discover Card on the list when I solicited their help. I revoked and closed my account immediately after working with National Debt due to contract issues with charging more money than the agreement, false advertisement, and no refunding money that was not paid to agencies. The representation letter sent to the Discover Card agency is negatively affecting my credit. Discover Card agency will not talk to me and will not make a payment from me. I have called National Debt several times to get a revoking letter and email to be sent to me and the Discover Agency. I call April 3, 2022: I was hung up 3 times before one agent took my call. I was told the letter would be sent to me and Discover Agency in 24 to 48 hours which, did not happen. I have since been trying to get Discover to help and get my account back online to make payments. I keep calling both agencies and cannot get it resolved. I called both agencies today Discover agents won't help with a revocation from National Debt. After getting hung up on by 4 agents at National Debt, I finally got Conner to get his supervisor to talk to me. The Supervisor's name was Michael, that said the same thing of a revocable letter will be sent in 24 to 48 hours, there is no direct line to reach anyone that would help me get this sooner. I have been waiting for 2 months for help from National Debt and my Discover bill is not being paid since January 23rd, 2022. The Discover agency shut down my account in 2022. I don't understand if they received a closure letter from National Debt Relief on September 3, 2021. Both agencies are contributing to negative credit reporting, high-interest rates, my account over the limit, and mental anguish. Please help!

Desired outcome: All late fees reversed and no other charges to account, my credit report negativity report reversed.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services Secured Credit Card

I opened a secured credit card with Discover. They took my security deposit from my account immediately. Ten days later they contacted me via email and let me know they needed to 'verify' my account with two years of income taxes, or 3 months of my personal bank statements.

This was not told me at the time of applying (when they took my money), and I feel it's too much personal information mining for a credit card with no actual credit! (the entire limit of my card is my security deposit).

I asked them to cancel my account (which I had not even received my card for, to destroy my personal information, take me off their mailing lists, and return my security deposit to the account they removed it from right away (they had already had possession of my funds for 10 days).

My deposit was not returned as I asked. I called again. After an hour on hold and being shuffled to and fro to three different agents, they told me they would 'expedite' my funds back to me by taking another 15 days to put the money back into my account (if they even do - at this point they are entirely suspect).

I did not consent for money to be taken from my account for no service given. I also did not consent for them to be in possession of my money for almost a month. This is criminal, a scam company and totally unacceptable business.

Desired outcome: Immediate return of my security deposit.
