Diamonds International unethical behaviour

our cruise ship the Disney Dream sailed from Port Canaveral June 1st 2018
we sailed to Nassau Bahamas arriving there Sunday morning.
while at sea we watched the on board TV, they had a nice show about Diamonds.
I watched enthralled by the opportunity to buy Diamonds at a significantly discounted rate. I thought it might turn into a business opportunity.
so I went to the meetings on the boat, and met the people from PPI.
I thought they worked for Disney, being on the boat, and TV
when we got to Nassau, I was excited to go and try my new skills they 'taught' us.

Diamonds International return policy and interest free for a year.

We stopped in to look at a diamond for my wife and all was going fine so far. Then we got the high pressure pitch to buy a bracelet and then earrings then a watch.in total we spent $20, 000 which was okay until I got home. I was planning to return the watch to the new york store. The sales person said I had 30 days to do so but when I pulled my receipt he had stamped it clearance item all sales final. He did the after I signed the bill and put the other receipts in in front of it. Also I can't get anyone to answer in the new york store. I would beware and if I knew they were crooks I would have looked closer. Don't get fooled!
Update they have offered me to return is all for store credit. Again that's now what we were told. Just a bunch of crooks
Update 06/07/18
The 1 year interest free is a scam as well. You have interest free to pay off total bill within 12 months. If you don't they hit you with all the back interest at 31%+... I talked to representative and the said it was on my april bill. I don't get paper bill I went paperless and it say nothing on the website.
Just all around crooks!

Diamonds International diamond ring quality and customer service

I am writing with concerns over your customer service.. And quality of product.. I purchased a ring on a cruise for my anniversary. 3 month later it broke, it was sent back and fixed. Took almost 2 months.. We went on another cruise and I had every intention of up grading to the next size stone. We went to 5 of your stores, I explained what has happened to my current ring I was wearing., not a single sales person offered to have the on site jeweler look at it, showed any interest all in my concerns all they did was focus on the fact I wanted a bigger stone... It turned into a joke.. For the group I was with... They wanted to put a bigger stone in the current setting it definitely would not support a larger stone without a new setting.. Not a single salesperson mentioned anything about that.. A month after that cruise the ring broke again, I called, it was sent back again. At first your customer service people were on top of it. Now I can not get a return phone call, I have been leaving two messages a day. I have asked for my money back... I have spoken with silvia two weeks ago, she said she would get back to me within 48 to 72 hours... Again it's been 2 weeks 2 plus calls a day with no return call.. Unfortunately I have no faith in the quality of the product or customer service at this point. I can not and should not keep worrying about the ring breaking again... Have owned the ring 14 months I have been without the ring for 5 month of that...

I just got off another cruise. During this one we walked into a store, talked to the manager told him what was going on and suddenly no one would talk to us. I would like a resolution to this situation.
I would appreciate an immediate refund of my purchase which was paid in full and someone getting back to me on this... Silvia in di customer service has all the details.

Diamonds International fraud - statement of value does not match price on the invoice

I made a purchase in st. Maarten at diamonds international for a bracelet. I spent a lot of time in the store and found myself rushing to get to my excursion and then after my excursion, spent time before getting back to the ship. Although I signed the invoice, it was signed in a rush to get back to the ship so I did not read it. They threw the paper in my face to say "sign here, sign here" and I signed. On royal caribbean, I attended a presentation. The buyer clearly indicated that the companies represented were backed by royal caribbean, which I believed 100%.

First, it was checked on the invoice that an appraisal was received, which was not in the paperwork provided to me. When I returned to the ship at st. Maarten, I contacted the buyer by the name of meghan to express my concerns with the purchase not having the paperwork as indicated on the invoice. She told me to visit the store at diamonds international at san juan for an explanation, which I did. The explanation I received at diamonds international in san juan is that when they give you gifts, they have to itemize some of the items on the invoice to equal the total paid! So on the invoice, it mentions blue sapphire earrings for $2100, which I never purchased and btw, these earrings do not have a statement of value stating that they are worth $2100. The statement of value was emailed to me after I was on the harmony of the seas ship.

I feel that diamonds international has put any dollar amount on the invoice for each of my purchases to justify the amount that they charged me. The statement of value says $3250, but the invoice has $32500. Diamonds international just wants me to accept it as a typo. However, I am questioning the integrity of all of my purchases, since they have earrings on there, that were supposed to be a gift, for $2100. Are any of the numbers accurate?

They are saying to justify a return, I need to get an appraisal and show that the bracelet is not worth what was paid, although their paperwork states the value of the piece. If you are accusing someone of fraud, isn't it on the company being accused to prove that it is not? They want me to get an appraisal to prove the value of the piece I brought from them when I do have paperwork from them that states the value of the piece.

I do not want any of their merchandise because I don't trust the value of any of the pieces, but I will keep and pay for those other pieces because the value on the invoice matches the statement of value. I am hoping that we can resolve the issue amicably without my going to court to accuse diamonds international of fraudulent behavior. They are trying to hold me 100% responsible because I signed the invoice and acting like they don't understand that I had to rush and leave to catch my ship. From the presentation on the ship and my discussion with the buyer, meghan, I was under the impression that any unhappiness and discrepancies could be amicably resolved.

It seems the lesson is to not sign anything without reading it in it's entirety and understand that there is a no return policy for diamonds international, regardless of what you hear on the presentations on any ship. Next time, leave the merchandise there if you can't read through the paperwork in excruciating detail, demand and look at the statement of value to compare that everything matches. And btw, the statement of value simply states what you paid for the piece. It is not a certificate of authenticy that tells you the value of the piece.

I will be taking the additional pieces I purchases to get it appraised to see how much of a fool I have been!

Diamonds International poor quality jewelry and the company does not stand behind their products.

On a Disney Cruise I visited the St. Kitts Diamond International store and proceeded to buy over $2000 in jewelry .based on the recommendation of Disney's Diamond and gemstone consultant. Within six months of purchase all items are broken and due to poor design quality can not be repaired. Diamond International gives a 30 days warranty. That's because that's how long it takes for this garbage jewelry to break. My Jeweler thought due to the size of this company they should stand behind their product. THEY DO NOT. BUYER BEWARE!

Diamonds International tanzanite bracelet I was pressured to purchase

On January 18, 2018, while visiting Costa Maya via the RC Liberty of the Seas, my friend and I went in to Diamonds International to just look around. My friend walked out spending 900.00 and myself, 199.00 on a tanzanite bracelet which I was pressured to purchase. I am not happy about this at all. The "free" necklace I was given is also a laugh. I want to return the bracelet and necklace immediately for a full refund. I paid 1/2 cash and 1/2 to my debit card. I am so disappointed as to how they pressure their customers. The quality of both items are below my expectations. The sales person, Angel C., was nice in the beginning, but once he got his manager involved, they both put on the pressure. I couldn't walk away if I wanted to without first making a purchase. Later in Cozumel, we observed another much bigger tanzanite bracelet for the same price, which proves this was no "promotional". I am on disability and cannot afford to spend money like this. I will never go into a never DI store again, unless I am provided a full refund immediately.

Oh no! I am not believing you told me this! I can't even keep the bracelet on because it is so difficult to close. I have two broken wrists which do not have full movement and I can't close this thing. This is not "buyer's remorse". This is a scam! I am not going to stop until I get a refund. I CANNOT WEAR THE BRACELET!

Hi Ms. Davis.

I really am sorry to hear you've broken both wrists. That must be extremely painful. Are they both currently in casts? Unfortunately a jewelry store has no control over the condition of their customers. Many bracelets are designed with clasps that you might find harder to close or later remove. However there are clasps that are designed to be considerably easier to both secure and/or remove. If you'll take any such jewelry that you may own to a local, trusted jeweler in your area, I'm sure they can provide assistance to remedy the situation.

Please know that, just because you may have seen another Tanzanite bracelet that was bigger, at a less expensive price, doesn't mean they were of equivalent value. Much like any gem or crystal, the quality of the stone is what really creates its value. True Tanzanite can be very expensive. It is only mined in one very small area Tanzania. It will be a wonderful souvenir of your cruise.

Unfortunately Ms. Davis, buyer's remorse isn't a condition for return. You at least enjoyed the bracelet enough to purchase it, so wear and enjoy it.

Diamonds International not diamond that was presented

In November 2017, My wife and I went into the Diamonds International store in Cozumel while on a cruise. We saw a men's ring that had a blue diamond and loved it. The sales person, "known to us as"G", told us it was a BLUE DIAMOND. After some time we met the manager that told us it was a BLUE DIAMOND and that they would size it and they needed to make a sale for the day. We had purchased three other crown of light diamond tings for my wife and a tanzanite ring for me as well as some earrings for my wife. We are not gemologists. When we returned home and looking at the appraisal they provided, it was noted that the diamond was a color enhanced diamond and NOT a BLUE DIAMOND. When I contacted Diamonds International the person I spoke with, Janett, told me I read the contract and I should have known. I sent a fax to her and a request to return the ring as it was NOT the diamond that their sales person and the manager told me it was. Needless to say it was declined. She advised me that she would contact her management and call me on Monday. Jan 15. I did NOT receive a call but she sent a email (to the wrong address despite have all my information) and the request was declined. I am in the process of contacting the cruise line, since they tell everyone that this retailer is so reliable and customer oriented. Bottom line, we were lied to and mis-directed. My sister also went to the store and purchased a diamond ring during our trip in December 2017, and had to have the Diamonds International store in Roatan tighten the center stone since it was loose. The only acceptable resolution is to return this BLUE DIAMOND RING for full credit.

Hi Mr. Schewe.

I'd like to possibly help.

Is there anything you have to show that it was misrepresented as true blue diamond? What country were you in?

Diamonds International diamond

We went to diamonds international after the sales pitch on ship.the stone they sold me was not what asked for. I am not a jailer person but when return to states we found out stone was cloudy and full of what they call inclusions. I called diamonds international and a sales person named Abigail told me they can not do anything unless we went to their store in Miami. They want to trade it for a less valued stone. They gave me to options of stones but both were smaller with same clarity and inclusions. This store will rip you off. I am contacting US attorney general and my congressman about them and will find a lawyer to take them to court. It will cost them more for their lawyers time than just giving me my money back and I will more than be willing to give them the stone back.

Adding my discontentment to you and anybody else who is going through this ordeal. we have tried everything that we could but it is impossible to get their attention or take you seriously. From the beginning, we were an object of their skim.
We request the cancel of the purchase but it was denied. After that, we tried to get an appraisal, with a local jewelry store. I manage to get an appraise which was 1/4 of the price charge on us. But when I was leaving the store I got a callback. I was ask to return the document and they could not longer appraise because the price was the one I was charged from DI. The store manager told me that DI has secretly sent an email with instructions on how these so-called diamonds are to be appraised. This is pure manipulation from these people. It's very hard when only on buyer complain. I was looking for anything that I could use but I could not find it. If this a lawsuit its legit I will like to have more information and maybe gather a big group of victims to fight back and get it right.

Hi,

I am going through a similar situation. I can't get them to work with us. It's been 4 months and we have a ring we can't wear and making payments on it. They are a complete scam. Who have you dealt with? I have been talking to royal media and Silvia at DI. They are completely useless and they scammed us big time. I would love to chat with you more and see what we can do.

We should start a Facebook page about them. I know they have ripped so many people off. They don't seem to care if we make a stink either. I have also contacted a ton of local news people in Florida and the statewide ones. I think if we can even start a petition it will help.

I just started this group. I'd like to get our stories together and get them posted. https://www.facebook.com/groups/524685658367021/

Diamonds International tanzanite bracelet

I went into the Diamonds International store in Juneau, Alaska on September 7, 2017. I was on a Holland America Cruise. I have purchased jewelry from DI for 20 years and never had a problem. I went into store to buy Tanzanite earrings. I was shown everything but earrings. Sales person was very pushy. I ended up buying a 40 karat Tanzanite bracelet. The bracelet was too big, so sales person offered to have 2 stones removed and made into stud earrings. I really do not like stud earrings, but since the offer was made, I agreed. I asked that the earrings be set in 14 k yellow gold. I also had a pendant made. This was a rush job because we had to board ship, but was assured there would be no problem. When I returned to ship, examined earrings and pendent and the workmanship was very poorly done. The gold was odd color and dull. I did report to representative on ship. She told me to contact DI directly when I got home. When I returned home, I took the tanzanites to be appraised. The jeweler called to tell me that earrings and pendant are set in silver and gold plated. I have had to have them set in real gold. I feel like this was misrepresented to me. I am still waiting on appraisal for bracelet. This was a very disappointing experience since I have always received such excellent service from DI. This bracelet was 8700.00. The pieces I have purchased in past have not been inexpensive. My previous purchase was a diamond bracelet that I paid 10, 000.00 for. Appraisal for it was well above that price. I would greatly appreciate any help that you can give me on this matter.
Sincerely,
Teresa Hare

Diamonds International rolex design/crown of light mens diamond ring - stone fell out

On our honeymoon cruise on Royal Caribbean, April 2016, we made purchases at Diamonds International. Of course the Royal Caribbean buying guide was at the store with us, and highly recommended D.I.
Less than a year later, the diamond fell out of the setting. We were surprised but things happen, so we contacted Diamonds International to get an estimate to replace it. We sent all the information about the ring, copy of the diamond specifics, color, clarity ( copy of the form they gave us at purchase) and after a time we received an email that the estimate to replace was $[protected], if we agreed with that estimate, then send in the ring. We did, at our expense, and as of today, there is still no resolution. It's been over 3 months, and they came back to us with an estimate of $5400 to replace the diamond...that is the same price we paid for the original ring. When we complained, they said, oh we will do you a favor and split the difference. That is still a long ways from their emailed estimate. We are still trying to work it through Royal Caribbean, but as of today, no change in the estimate to repair. The whole experience has been stressful and negative dealing with them. Honestly reminds me of dealing with street vendors and bartering for a price. We will never enter another D.I. store. Yes the warranty expired within 30 days and they don't replace diamonds of that size, but they should stand by their estimate to repair it, a small variance is understandable, maybe, but not to the extend they are trying to charge us. It's their product and they should know what it costs to replace it and should not have mislead us with an email cost of much less.

Diamonds International .95 ct. emerald cut engagement ring

We purchased a diamond ring from roatan diamonds international while on a cruise with royal caribbean cruise lines, everything that could go wrong did, from start to finish. First, the sales specialist was supposed to get the ring to us on the ship as it was being sized, 2 days later we received it. When we were off the ship, in tampa, the $6, 500.00 emerald cut diamond just fell out! Thankfully I heard it hit the counter, very disappointing, we arrived back home to "deal" with the situation, and that is when the company showed their true colors! The hack job they did was juts heart breaking, the prongs to hold the stone were clearly hacked at, and ground down, too small to harbor the stone. We sent it in to be changed out, a month later, with no communication from their end, we got a different ring back, same center stone, but different setting entirely, our jeweler, was as dumbfounded as us. The settings multiple diamonds were much, much smaller, and the original ring weighed 3.97 grams, the new one weighed 2.85 grams. They sent the different ring with the same prongs as the old one. The center stone was loose again, crooked, and they offered us $400.00. They sucked any enjoyment out of what was to be the most exciting thing in a girls life! This was on march 6th 2017. The company does not stand by the product, and is a scam! Buyer beware!

Diamonds International diamond ring

My fiancé and I just got back from a cruise. We purchased a ring from DI. We were leaning toward a smaller less expensive ring than we purchased. I felt like we were taken advantage of while we were there. The seller kept giving us "the local beer" and then talked us into the more expensive ring. I told him at least once that I did not want another drink...and he replied "oh why not...you're on vacation". I am NOT at all happy with my purchase and the fact that he "got us buzzed" and sold us a ring we cannot afford the monthly payments.

Diamonds International crown of light

Diamond purchase from Diamonds International Store # 953 in Grand Cayman on May 25, 2017.
Carnival Cruise Line Ship Breeze (May21-28)

My husband bought me a new wedding ring set on the day of our 21st wedding anniversary while on our vacation in Grand Cayman. We experienced some problems with the purchase & have been trying to handle this directly with Diamonds International and Carnival Cruise Line. Carnival has forwarded our case to Onboard Media representative Nadine Winter, who is the Customer Relations Manager and deals directly with Diamonds International. She has put us in touch with Diamond International’s representative; Kerry Clare.

We communicated the problems about our purchase immediately after returning to the ship and reading through the paperwork. We did not read through any of the paperwork until we got back to the ship as we were about to miss the last boat taking us back. Carnival Cruise Line’s employee stayed behind & held the last boat going back to the ship to ensure that we did not miss the ships departure. When we got back to the ship, we noticed that the stone itself had more yellow in the color than the stone we had expressed interest in before the stone was set in the ring. We read through the contract and paperwork and found that the contract conflicted with everything we were promised when we purchased this ring. The sales person wrote up the contract and placed a written appraised value on the contract and had the stone set in the ring while we went to purchase a couple souvenirs from a nearby store as we were running out of time. Ms. Buxani, store manager & the sales woman said that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to invest in a stone that is priced well under its appraised value of $110, 000 in the U.S.A. She promised to put this value in writing but only wrote a value of $69, 000.
Due to the conflicts in what we were promised verses what was in writing on the appraisals, receipt contract, and the stone being slightly yellow, we felt very uneasy about the entire purchase and decided that we wanted to cancel the transaction. The next day, we tried to cancel our contract and return the purchase within 24 hours at D.I.’s Cozumel store. The manager of the Cozumel store, refused the return of the ring and stated that we must deal with the return directly with D.I. Corporate offices in New York upon returning home.
Carnival Cruise Lines shopping expert, Kelvin met us at the Cozumel store and is a witness to the problem and knows that we intended to return the ring that day. The only thing that we accomplished was that we did get the Cozumel store manager to contact Ms. Buxani and have her email the letter with the promised written guarantee of value. However, Ms. Buxani did not put the promised $110, 000 value that she and her sales person verbally guaranteed to us in the store. She did write a guarantee of value in the amount of $80, 000. The very reason we asked for the letter to be faxed or emailed to the Cozumel store before we left Cozumel was to clarify in writing the things we were promised at the time of purchase in the Grand Cayman store. We were promised this would be included in writing in the paperwork handed to us with receipts and appraisals, but was not. There was nothing written up until we insisted on getting something in writing before leaving Cozumel.

After corresponding with Kerry Clare about what happened and that we would like to acquire return instructions, we were emailed a response implying that we are lying. We feel that this is not only extremely unprofessional, but feel that D.I. has shown unethical business practices. D.I. has refused to take the ring set back unless we take the ring to “their” specially trained appraisers who work directly with them and has been trained by D.I. on how to evaluate, grade and place a value on their Crown of Light stones in the U.S. They stated that the only allowance they would honor for us to cancel our contract was if the value does not come in at a minimum of $80, 000 by their trained appraiser since we were able to get the letter we insisted on before leaving Cozumel. We feel that requiring us to take the stone for appraisal by D.I.’s appraiser is a conflict of interest. We do not want the ring and do not feel that we should have to pay for an appraisal as we have the right under the 72 hour FTC Cooling Off Rule to cancel this transaction and return the ring set. However, we have consulted with an Attorney who is handling a class-action case against Diamonds International and they recommended that we go through with an appraisal by a highly respected and recommended GIA certified appraiser in our area to prove that the stone is over-graded. We had the ring appraised and the value came in at $28, 500. This appraiser was a certified and highly recommended GIA appraiser and is the third party to value the ring at between $26-29, 000 since returning home.

Immediately upon our return home, we tried to enact the FTC Cooling-Off Rule but D.I. refuses to take the ring back. We have sent letters by Certified Mail to both Diamond’s International and Comenity Capitol Bank, their finance company out of Columbus, OH, to cancel the contract and to ask D.I. for return instructions.

Last but certainly not least; We trusted that our purchase was secure as Carnival Cruise Line’s shopping expert not only promotes Diamonds International as one of the best locations for unbeatable deals on quality diamonds, but also warns against shopping at other stores; telling us that the 925 sterling silver stamped jewelry in some of the stores at the ports on the islands we visited are in fact counterfeit. Therefore, making us believe that we should listen to Carnival’s advice and only shop where they tell us to in order to be safe from scams. We feel that Carnival Cruise Line should certainly take some of the responsibility of the problem and certainly should be helping us to resolve the matter.

Diamonds International a diamond ring

Dear sir madam

We are customers of DI since 2007. We bought four rings between 2007, 2010 and now we bought 2 more rings June 23rd 2017 keywest. The manager said its 18k white gold ring. However after reading up on the ring today June 24th I realized it's only 14k. I then went to your in Duvall st. But you were already closed. So went to another pacific jewelry store and saw the same style with more DI on the side; .83 + .28 for 3400 even. I would like money back, you were closed and I have to leave. I feel robbed

Diamonds International ring

I bought ring for $6, 000 and was hesustant about weight of it on my finger. I was told and reassured I could return it in 30 days .I called 2 days later and told them I couldn't adjust to it. Got run around that I could get store credit only as it states on back of receipt I was not shown. The back of receipt says "you may receive a refund"I have filed with Better Business Bureau and Diamonds International has received no response from them . I'm debating getting my lawyer involved to stop this scam from happening.

Diamonds International di twin band diamond ring

Purchased a diamond ring in Dominica whilst on a Celebrity cruise. Mercedes the sales person couldn't have been friendlier, telling us about her recent wedding. We negotiated a good price, and after the ring was checked by manager, happily left the store. Then the fun started, on returning to the UK, noticed a diamond had fallen out, contacted DI who said they would pay for repair as no refund possible. My jeweller said that diamonds were loose and others crooked in mounts. To cut a long story short, my credit card resolved the issue and we were refunded as in UK law. NOW, after 6 months I still have the ring as DI show no interest in picking it up! The whole thing is bizarre.

what is the UK law that resolved your credit? and what was your credit issue to begin with?
I don't understand the comment.

Diamonds International a trident "tanzanite" pendant

In February 2014, while on vacation on Independence of the Seas, my husband, son and I went into the Tanzanite International located in Phillipsburg, St. Maarten, where I purchased a set of "tanzanite" earrings and pendant, set in "silver" for $250, which was a "cruise special". Since that time, while I have lost one of the earrings, the pendant has been sitting in my safe at home. In April 2017, I brought the pendant, along with other pieces I have collected, to my local jeweler for an appraisal. I told her that it was tanzanite set in silver, and asked for an appraisal of the piece. I stopped by to see her yesterday, and she informed me that when she attempted to polish the silver, it rubbed off - it was actually silver plating. She went on to inform me that further investigation revealed the stone was not tanzanite, but due to the number of bubbles in the stone, appeared to be colored glass.

Diamonds International di - overpriced and unfortunately overpaid for jewelry set; ripped off.

We purchased two pieces in St. Thomas at DI and then three matching pieces at St. Maarten DI in March 2017. Immediately upon returning home, took jewelry to local appraiser as we have with other purchases in the past. We were devastated to find the items grossly under the value of what we paid. SIGNIFICANTLY under the value, on average of 75% less than what we paid. We were shocked, primarily because we have purchased other items at DI in the past and been pleased with the appraisals we have received on our purchases. It gave us a false sense of security between our past experiences and the constant barrage from the cruise line shoppers about shopping at quality locations (which DI is supposed to be). NOT THIS TIME!

DI has yet to respond to our emails. Royal C did immediately respond and we are in the process of figuring out what can be done through their claim process. However, we are so uneasy about it until we get it resolved, we will likely never make a jewelry purchase in the islands again... we feel we have been seriously ripped off.
